Final Chapter! Hope you enjoy! Contains some language and some violence!
Betty was a goner, she could see her life flash before her eyes, the good, the bad and the Veronica. She focused a lot on her even though their time together was only brief. She may never get to touch her soft skin, taste her luscious lips. No more intimate moments, no fooling around in the showers. She'd never see anyone in Riverdale again, no Serpents, no Jughead, no Archie. She remembered all of the things Veronica whispered in her ear, how much she loved her, how much she wanted to see what else was out there other than their quiet town. Would she have wanted to move in together? Get married? Kids? Would she have really let her eat strawberries off of her and whip cream?
"DAMMIT! BETTY! YOU COULDN'T STAY OUT OF IT! COULD YOU?"
Brooks nearly broke her arm keeping the blonde away from the door to her hapless escape.
"Why would you do this? Why Sheldon?"
"There's a lot you don't know about this town, Cooper. You might not think it but I do care about it. I wanted to protect it. When I found out Riverdale's number one student was playing drug mule, well I couldn't have that. Couldn't let news get out about a future Ivy League in connection with some scumbags."
Betty couldn't believe it, Sheldon really was moving merchandise and Brooks became more enraged as he went on about it.
"Oh? You think he was some kind of saint? He's no different from his father. His father wasn't a gang member but he sure might as well have been. Sure he was smart, he eventually let go of that life but not before he made sure he made people's lives a living hell. Cletus Mathers was always a punk, he hassled me and embarrassed me in front of a few people once out in the middle of town. He always wanted to pick fights, I thought I had him but of course he played dirty, he pulled a switch blade up to my throat and forced me to beg for my life. Even called attention to the piss running down my leg."
Betty scoffed, "So, what? Killing Sheldon was just about getting some kind of twisted revenge?"
"A tiny bit of it, yeah. But I saw some of Cletus in Sheldon. He was a quiet kid, kept to himself but I knew he's turn bad. Just a matter of time. You know all about that now don't you, Betty?"
Betty frowned, "What are you talking about?"
"Look at you. Serpent tattoo, leather jacket. You're in too deep. You wanted to make believe like you were in the FBI or in some detective show! You ought to see yourself. Look in the mirror once in a while."
"What you think I'm throwing my life away? At least I never killed anyone."
Betty quickly remembered the incident at Pop's and how quickly south that all turned.
"On purpose!"
"You handled yourself well. You defended our town but so what? You still run with those bastards."
"Hey, Sheldon wasn't working for the Serpents. They don't even move cocaine or heroin."
"So, what? Might not be the same gang but it's not like they're any better."
"This is insane! You'll never get away with this!"
"This is the real world, kid. Serpent Queen! Bet your folks are proud!"
"I am not a...Fuck you!"
"Kiss your girlfriend with that mouth?"
"A lot more than that", Betty said, as if to make the old man jealous.
"What happened to the innocent young girl?"
"She grew up!"
"Degenerate."
"All that cocaine I found in Sheldon's car, did you just use it all yourself?"
Brooks laughed, "Flushed it after I took that thing out of town. Cover up any loose ends."
"The Halloween mask? What is this Scooby Doo?"
"You kids would believe there was some psycho serial killer lurking around. All I needed was something cheap from the joke shop to make you jump out of your clothes."
"You cut me out of my clothes! Let's get that part straight!"
He took out his revolver and pointed it at Betty's scared, shaken face.
"There, that ought to shut you up a while."
"What are you going to do? Kill me? Frame me?"
"Yeah, something like that. Maybe you were giving me a lot of lip. Snuck a blade in the interrogation room with you. Went ballistic, killed my partner and I had no choice but to put you down when you jumped me."
Betty shook her head, "No way anyone is going to believe any of that."
"People will believe it from me. See no one wants this kind of noise in small towns like this. Everyone wants Riverdale as the same happy community they think its always been."
"That's what I thought you'd say", Betty smirked.
Brooks' face loosened, "What?"
"See, maybe I do watch a lot of cop shows, Officer Brooks but I do take not on the important stuff like..."
Betty opened up her jacket, flashing the officer with a wire taped to her chest.
"A wire?"
"Fuck me..."
The life in Brooks' eyes dimmed.
"Get all that, Juggie?" Betty spoke into the mic.
Brooks maintained his revolver, something Betty was hoping wouldn't be an issue, with him being busted and another person listening in on all of this going on. She ducked just as the trigger was pulled.
"YOU LITTLE BITCH!"
Betty's ear rang, she couldn't hear a thing, not even the ripping of her bra and the fact her jacket was on the floor; finally noticing a chill she covered herself with both arms. Brooks saw something sticking out of Betty's front pocket and snatched it, just a little recorder that sure wasn't hooked up to anything else but Betty.
"No one's listening in!"
"Hey", Betty said with a sly smile, "Fooled you."
Officer Brooks ran after her, Betty was able to get out into the hallway, she made a run for the door when she heard another shot ring out, Brooks was firing blindly at her. Down on her knees, Betty got to the main front doors. Betty got to her feet and was met with bright headlights, she put her hands up instinctively, forgetting what she was using them to cover up. She was still having some trouble hearing, it wasn't until later that she was told: 'GET DOWN!'
Brooks was just behind Betty, aiming at the back of her head but he didn't even get a chance to place a finger on the trigger, he was struck several times by the boys in blue from the next town over. Betty fell on the steps and covered her ears, she looked back to see Brooks on the ground in a bloody mess.
Betty stood with Veronica outside the police station with a blanket wrapped around herself. Veronica tugged at it, keeping it tight on her; she didn't want Betty out of her sight for a second.
"Betty, I think you need to drop this criminal life. It's just too much for me. You can't put that on me. You could have died and well I don't know what I would do without you."
Betty smiled in spite of Veronica's anger, her eyes welled up.
"If you say so, Ronnie."
"Oh, I do say so." Veronica frowned.
"Hey!" The two turned and saw Jughead holding his camera up.
Betty rolled her eyes, this was going to be his front page story.
"Smile for the camera you two."
Betty and Veronica smiled for Jughead's award winning shot, Veronica managed to sneak a kiss on Betty's cheek while she was distracted mid-flash.
"Come on, one more."
Veronica pulled Betty into a passionate embrace, no sense on hiding this anymore.
Not long after, Betty was awarded the key to the city, she was made out to be some kind of hero, not exactly what she had in mind but she did put attention on corruption in their little town. 'I wonder how much this will effect my college options'.
Hermione Lodge welcomed Betty into her home with open arms, the hero who saved her little girl had more than enough approval to marry her precocious daughter. Betty couldn't say no to any of that, she wasn't sure if she'd ever see her mother or father again, going back home seemed unlikely. Even if her mother was to request seeing her, how would that reunion go? Almost a complete write off and trying to make up for what she did? Ridiculous, Veronica told her she didn't owe that woman a thing and that she was her own woman.
One last meeting with the Serpents was a lot harder than Betty thought. She never would have thought she'd feel this accepted by a group of seemingly rough and tough criminals.
"So, that's it, Python?"
"This crew was just starting to get more interesting with ya here."
"Is it because of your girl?"
"Yeah, your girl scared of you getting hurt?"
Veronica folded her arms and stuck her nose up at the big apes; she insisted she go with Betty in case any of them gave her any grief. They were nice enough to give her a member's jacket that was her size, more honorary than anything but no one would be able to tell the difference.
"Do you have a problem with that?"
"No, ma'am," Scarface said, holding up his hands.
"You guys were a big help, guys."
She held up her leather jacket.
"Consider yourself a member for life, blondie."
"It does suit you, babe," Veronica said, holding onto Betty's arm like it was some meathead's pumped up bicep.
"Gee, thanks."
"You're still a Serpent Queen," Veronica said, kissing her jawline.
"And who knows, maybe we'll need to team up again sometime," Scarface said.
Betty frowned a little, unsure about what would push her back into this life again.
"The big lug could be right," Veronica sneered, "You might have to be Bad Girl Betty again. But I think for now, we'll keep her in the bedroom."
Betty's cheeks burned, everyone shouted their approval of this. Betty thought this was a good time to leave before things turned rowdy with anymore of her partner's off color comments.
"Please don't take off yet."
"I think it's past our bedtimes, guys," Betty chuckled.
"We got a little parting gift for you."
"Oh?" Veronica was way more interested than she was.
They walked the two to a Harley Davidson motorcycle, both of their jaws dropped.
"Is that a real Harley?"
"Wait, this is a joke, right? I mean, I don't have a license to drive a motorcycle."
She was passed a helmet, this was actually happening.
"Just don't go around ripping through town all hours of the night."
"It's easy, champ, don't fret."
"We're going to look so hot together on that," Veronica whispered in her ear,
"What about your car?"
"We'll come back for it later, lover girl."
Betty and Veronica climbed on the thing, Betty was given the fastest motorcycle lesson anyone had probably ever heard. It was started up for her and she was left to her own devices. Veronica hugged her waist, Betty did feel a sudden rush of confidence when she rolled the throttle. Everyone cheered as the bike made its way back to town.
Betty almost could make out what Veronica was saying to her.
"...This is fucking awesome!"
"...We're pushing this the rest of the way to your place when we reach Pop Tate's!"
Veronica burst out laughing. Once they sped up and Veronica felt the wind in her hair, she shouted out loud for the whole town to hear her excitement.
The End!
Thank you so much for reading! Maybe I'll write another Betty story in the future!
