Caroline and Wally are in the 9th grade. You do the math.
Earlier that day
"Beth, where are you going?" Caroline asked her older sister. Eddie had just left to go practice with Jake, Steve, and Tony at the field.
"Oh, just the Hatfords house." Beth replied wistfully.
"It's not a study day." Caroline pointed out. Beth nodded. Something clicked in Caroline's brain. "Oh ok, be good then!"
Beth turned pink and smacked Caroline. Caroline smiled.
"Hey say hi to 'Will' for me!" Caroline laughed as her sister walked out the door. Beth turned around and stuck out her tongue at Caroline. After Beth had left, Caroline thought about something. She quickly decided to go and talk to Bill about all this nonsense. She got ready and headed to the Bensons house. She decided to enter from the back because it was typically unlocked and was greeted by Danny.
"Oh hey Caroline!" Danny said. "What do ya want?"
"I need to talk to Bill, is he here?" Caroline responded.
"Yeah, " Danny responded. He reached up and scratched his head. "I'll let him know you're here. C'mon follow me."
Caroline followed Danny right up to the hallway before the living room when they started hearing voices.
"Don't be so cold, come on in!" Bill said happily. Caroline was confused by his tone towards whoever he was talking to but a sinking feeling in her stomach led her to a hunch on who it was.
"What is your deal?" Wally asked Bill. Caroline's eyes widened a bit, and she could hear the anger in his voice, throwing her for a loop.
"What do you mean?" Bill said, feigning ignorance. Caroline wanted to scoff out loud but didn't want to reveal her location.
"Don't make me laugh. First, you're checking out one of Caroline's friends, then you're talking to Caroline alone, and now you're acting like none of that happened, so what is your deal?" Wally replied angrily. Caroline looked at Danny, who just shrugged.
"If you care for her so much, why haven't you asked her out?" Bill replied softly. Caroline's jaw dropped and Danny's eyes widened, realizing he shouldn't have been so hasty to bring Caroline to Bill.
"You know it's not that simple, she hates me." Wally grumbled. Caroline felt a pang of hurt. Wally thought she hated him. She turned away, ready to leave.
Bill scoffed. "What part of her actions make you believe that she hates you? Her waiting outside the school for you? The fact that when you're sick, your name is every other word out of her mouth? Yeah Wally, she totally hates you." Caroline turned back around swiftly.
"It looks like you're going through the five stages of grief right now." Danny whispered to Caroline.
"Shut. Up." Caroline whispered back.
"But-" Wally began.
"No buts. She watches you as much as you watch her, I've seen it. The only two people who can't are you two. Now grow a pair of eyes and see!" Bill said.
"Umm, Bill?" Danny said loudly. Caroline threw her arms up and down, left and right, trying to get him to stop.
"Yeah what's up Danny?" Bill asked. Caroline face palmed and felt her face turn red.
"Caroline wants to talk to you." Danny smiled cheekily at Caroline and turned to walk away.
Wally watched in horror as Caroline walked out from behind the wall. She smiled sheepishly and her face was red.
"Hi there," She chuckled nervously.
"Hey Caroline, what's up?" Bill asked her.
"Oh nothing much, you know I think I'm just going to head home-" she started.
"No. You two stay here and talk." Bill demanded and trooped off to the kitchen. Caroline turned to Wally.
"I really think I should just go-" Caroline started to leave but Wally grabbed her arm, surprising himself.
"How much of that did you just hear?" Wally asked. Caroline cursed herself for not leaving when she had a chance.
"Ummm," Caroline said, trying to buy herself time.
"Caroline." Wally said, leaving Caroline to just look at him.
"Practically the whole thing." She admitted shyly, looking down at the ground. Wally wanted to jump off the nearest tall building and punch both Danny and Bill.
"Remind to kill Bill and Danny after this." Wally muttered under his breath, leaning his head on Caroline's shoulder. Caroline's breath hitched slightly.
"I was thinking the same thing." Caroline whispered. Wally looked up at her. Suddenly, without a word, Wally pressed his lips onto Caroline's. She instinctively closed her eyes and Wally let go of her arm to put his hand behind her head. She wrapped her arms around his neck. Wally pulled her closer by wrapping his arm around the small of her back.
Bill and Danny started to clap their hands together in applause, causing Wally and Caroline to break apart.
"Finally!" Bill yelled. Caroline blushed even more profusely that she looked like a tomato. Wally's ears were a bright red.
"What am I supposed to do with the video?" Danny asked Bill.
"Video!?" Caroline asked. Bill and Danny laughed.
"Oh you guys are the worst, let's go Caroline." Wally said, reaching for Caroline's arm again. Their hands interlocked and he led her out the door.
Wally led Caroline back to her house where they saw Jake, Eddie, Steve, and Tony standing nearby.
"Oh crap," Caroline muttered but when Wally looked at her, she was smiling.
"Back door?" Wally said. Caroline nodded and the two snuck in the house.
"Oh Caroline, there you are. Have you seen my-" Eddie looked up and saw Wally standing next to her sister with their hands intertwined. She smirked as Caroline blushed again.
"Both of my sisters are starting to date someone in the same week." Eddie said. Wally looked at Caroline as if to say she knows? Caroline nodded back.
"Oh, Danny just texted us," Steve said from outside.
"Wally!" They heard Jake yell. Wally bolted right back out of the back door with Caroline in tow.
After Wally and Caroline made it to the Hatfords house, they were greeted by Beth and Josh on the couch. Beth flashed two thumbs up and Josh grinned when they walked in.
"Jake is right on our tail." Caroline said. Soon, Jake walked in with Eddie practically pulling him away. He stopped short when he saw Beth.
"Am I the last to know everything?" Jake asked Eddie, who nodded in agreement.
Wally wrapped his arms around Caroline and she looked at him over her shoulder. They shared a smile and looked back at their siblings.
