Disclaimer: I do not own Trolls, all rights go to Dreamworks and along with any music that may be used will be given the proper ownership to whomever originally sang and wrote the song used. I just want to make a few things clear before we get started. This is an original fanfic but it will be based on the three movies. Title's not a typo. This is not canon to my last Trolls Fanfic. This is a completely new story. Hope y'all enjoy it!
Bridget had woken up to tiny little people talking and wondered what they were doing. Looking up she saw that the Trolls had somehow escaped from their cage. She knew that she had to get them back for she would face a terrible punishment. "No! Get back in your cage! Chef's gonna be so mad! No!" Bridget said mostly to herself as she tried to grab and recapture the Trolls, but was having a difficult time doing so. Everyone was running around in a panic getting them nowhere. Poppy then knew what she had to do. "Bridget, stop! You're in love with King Gristle." The pink Troll stated. Bridget blush embarrassed that her secret was now out in the open. "I don't know what you're talking about." The Bergan girl tried to deny it, but Poppy pulled back a curtain revealing a bunch of collaged photos of her with the King. "Excuse me! That's not mine." Bridget said as she rushed to cover up her darkest secret, but she knew that she could no longer hide it. "What does it matter? It's not like he even knows I'm alive." Bridget said dejectively. "Bridget, I can help you! What if there was a way we could both get what we want? That Troll King Gristle put in his mouth, that's Creek. And I would do anything to save him. The only problem is... We can't get anywhere near the king without him eating us. But... You can. You can walk right up to him and tell him how you feel." Poppy said, hoping that the Bergan girl would go along with the plan.
"As if. I can't just walk right up to the king. His royal awesomeness would never talk to a scullery maid like me." Bridget said not thinking that there was ever a possibility that she would end up with her one true love. "What if he didn't know you were a scullery maid? What if he thought you were this total babe?" Poppy tried to counter. Branch was wondering why they were even bothering. "What kind of total babe would be dressed like a scullery maid? I smell like gravy." Bridget added to the list of reasons as to why this plan would never work. Suki tried to help her Aunt Poppy. "He might like the smell of Gravy!" Suki shouted, hoping out of her mom's hair. Branch's eyes went wide and went to cover her daughter's mouth. "Suki. Not the time." She whispered not wanting to take any chance of offending this low self esteemed Bergan.
"What if we made you a new outfit?" Satin said, taking Suki's lead to try and help Poppy. "I'm thinking…" Chenille added wanting to help too. "Jumpsuit!" They finished together. "What's the point of a jumping suit if I still have this hair?" Bridget said still not believing that this plan would work. "We can fix that." Poppy said, hoping that Bridget would finally believe her. "What's the point of a new outfit and new hair... If I don't even know what a total babe would ever say?" She didn't. "We can help with that too!" Poppy said one more time. "Really?" Bridget said thinking that if they can help with all of that then this might actually work. "What do you say, Bridget? You get us Creek, and we'll get you a date with the king." Poppy begged in her head for Bridget to say yes. "Let's do it?" The Bergan Maid said still a little hesitant, but that was good enough for Poppy. "A 5, 6, 7, 8… When you look in the mirror, let it disappear. All your insecurities." The trolls started to sing.
"Wait! Why isn't this one singing?" Bridget asked, looking at the grey troll who was checking over the two kid trolls. Branch then turned her head realizing that everyone was now staring at her. "Come on, Branch. Sing with us!" Cooper said, trying to encourage her to join them. "Yeah, Branch, sing with us!" Poppy added, hoping to convince the grumpy troll. "No. That's okay." Branch said, trying to refuse politely. "You don't think this will work?" Bridget asked disapointedly. "No, no. It's not that. I just don't sing." Branch didn't want to partake in Poppy's plan but she also didn't want to sabotage it either. "Branch!" Poppy snapped at Branch who honestly could not figure out the right thing to say now. "No. She's right. This idea is stupid. King Gristle will never love me." Bridget cried defeated as she ran back to her bed and face planted into the pillow to sob once more. "Come on. Hey, hey. What's all this?" Cooper said, trying to help calm the Bergan girl down. "That's right, Bridget. Just let it all out." Guy Diamond said trying to help out Cooper while the rest of the Snack Pack tried to also help them out as well. "Bridget, let it go. Just have a good cry. Go, girl! Okay, now bring it back in. Reel it in." Biggie said.
Branch was done with this entire thing. She went to grab Suki and Keith so they could finally get back home. "Branch, what are you doing? You have to sing!" Poppy shouted at the older girl frustratedly. "I told you, I don't sing. And We're leaving. Come on." Branch said to the three trolls in front of her. Poppy however was not going to take no for an answer. "You have to!" Branch was tired of this. "I'm sorry. I can't." Branch said still trying to be as polite as possible infront of her kids. "No, you can. You just won't." Poppy snapped back. "Fine. I just won't." Branch answered back once more. "You have to!" Poppy yelled back, gaining the attention of the rest of the room. "No!" Branch told Poppy as she was now getting really mad at the royal. Sukie and Keith just hid behind their mother getting more and more scared at the fighting between them. "Yes!" Poppy said, once more. "No!" Branch said with finality in her voice. "Why not? Why won't you sing?" Poppy said, beyond frustrated. Why couldn't she just sing. What was so hard for her to not sing? "Because singing killed my grandma, okay?" Branch yelled, silencing the entire room.
"Now, leave me alone." She said walking away from everyone to be alone for a moment; she sat down and wouldn't even look at her two kids. Suki just looked at her brother then back at their mom. "Mommy?" Suki said with a little fear in her voice. Poppy looked at her niece and nephew and went to them sitting on the ground for them to join her. "How did singing kill your grandma? What song was she singing?" Suki just nuzzled into her Aunt when Poppy asked the question. Branch looked up and saw the look of three pairs of eyes looking right back at her. She knew that she needed to finally tell the truth. "I was the one singing." Branch said, with tears in her eyes. Poppy knew she was missing something, but she never would have imagined this. Suki wanted to cry for her mother and Keith just went to Branch and hugged her. She thankfully hugged him back.
Branch continued her tragic tale with Keith now in her arms sitting in her lap. This provided her with some comfort so she could actually finish the story. "That day, I was so lost in song... I didn't hear my grandma trying to warn me. She yelled, "Branch! Watch out!" as she pushed out of the way and into safety. The only other thing I remember hearing was her scream as I cried out for her watching as Chef took her. I lost the last bit of family I had at the age of three and it was my fault. I turned grey and I haven't sung a note since." Branch said as her tears fell into her son's hair. No one knew what to say. How could none of them have known? How could Branch blame herself? "I'm so sorry, Branch. I had no idea. But that wasn't your fault. It was Chef's. She's to blame, not you." Branch gave out a little chuckle. "Viva used to say the same thing." Poppy was taken back by that comment.
Suki went from her Aunt's side and straight to her mom. "I'm so sorry mommy." Branch pulled her daughter into a hug along with Keith and Gary who crawled out of his mother's hair and into her lap with his older brother. "Oh. Baby. Me too." Poppy got up and joined the group hug causing both kids to laugh and giggle, wiping their previous tears. "Whoa, whoa. What are you doing? It's not hug time." Branch asked, confused. "I just thought you could use one." Poppy wanted to cry too. She just could not believe Branch was holding the weight of this all on her own. Did her dad know? She said Viva knew. How could she believe it was her fault? She was singing like any troll her age was born to do. It just sadly ended up more tragic than most. Poppy looked back at Branch who looked ready to get up and move past this as she had seen that Snack Pack come up on the window seal to join in on the hug along with Bridget. It was clear that Branch was reaching her limit while trying to hide her embarrassment.
Branch made her way out of the hug having had enough. The look on Branch's face said that she still did not want to help. "Mommy we should still help." Suki said from the middle of their group hug. Branch eventually gave in as you could hear her groan. "Okay. Okay, I'll help. But I'm still not singing." Branch said, ending the group hug. Poppy would take it. "Okay, people. Hair we go!" The princess said as the dressed Bridget up in this total babe jumpsuit and got on her had to extend their hair to create this rainbow wing, Harper did Bridget's makeup and they were ready to go. For the first time in her life Bridget felt absolutely confident as they made their way out of the castle and into Bergan Town to find King Gristle.
When they finally reached where King Gristle was Bridget was staring at him through the shop window admiring the man she loves. He was trying to get bibs for Trollstice and wanted to look his best for the big celebration; Bridget was starting to lose her new found confidence. Poppy poked her head out of the wig to give Bridget yet another pep talk. Branch watched from the back keeping Suki and Keith close to her. She did not want them falling off of the head they were currently on and she was wondering how did they talk her into this situation, but right now that didn't matter she was here and she needed to keep her kids safe.
Somehow Poppy had managed to convince Bridget to enter the store and in the hopes to to flatter him but unfortunietely Poppy chose to use a slang turn that can also double as an insult luckily Poppy and Bridget were able to recover the slit. Branch breathed a sigh of relief but by each passing moment it became more andmore clear that they did not think this entire plan through, because they were just asked for a name and everyone panicked going with Lady GlitterSparkles. Yep that's a real non made up name Branch thought to herself. Somehow fate was on their side since King Gristle actually believed that was Bridget's real name and asked her out on a real date. Branch stood there in surprise. Poppy's plan was actually working.
When they had made their way to the place of the date it turned out to be an Arcade, Pizzeria, and Rollarrink. Fun. When the pizza had arrived Bridget had swatted King Gristle's hand and scarfed down the pizza leaving Gristle with a look of love and amazement and Branch wide eyed. Poppy had whispered for Bridget to complement Gristel back after his kind words of admiration and Bridget had taken it literally. "I like your back." Poppy kept telling Bridget to not compliment him like that even though Bridget did like the King's back. Bridget did not know what else to say and Poppy tried to find things about the king that were flattering, but simply could not. It did not help that everyone was not shouting random body parts and Bridget did not know what was going on and was panicking repeating everything that she was hearing.
Poor King Gristle he was even more confused by the situation and thought that maybe she was just insulting him. Branch knew she had to step in and fix this and quickly took over with the speaking. "Your eyes! They're like two pools, so deep I fear if I dive in I might never come up for air. Your smile, the sun itself turns jealous and refuses to come out from behind the clouds." For Bridget's credit she recited every word perfectly. Branch would often write poems and read them to her children right before bed. It was the closest thing she did as a lullaby since she didn't sing and her kids didn't want her reading to them; something about her not doing the voices right. Poems were Branch's way of expressing herself and her feelings. She did not know every poem with her kids, some were darker and for just her but there were also those that she wrote to remind herself of those she lost. And finally there are those poems she hides so deep in her bunker for fear of anyone to hear them. The poem she just recited was one of them. They are about finding love one day. Her dream of not being alone anymore and finding someone who loved her and what she felt like it would feel like when it finally happened.
Poppy looked between Branch and Gristle seeing that it was working and surprised that Branch of all people actually knew about romance. She honestly thought the troll was being sarcastic when it was brought up but clearly she wasn't. When Poppy looked back at Branch she saw a smile appear on her face. Suki and Keith were looking up at their mom with pride in their eyes. They were always so proud of their moms writing and always loved to hear them. Bridget was taken by the poem too that she started to speak on her own. This was not left unnoticed by the trolls despite being in shock by Branch's hidden talent. "I can't believe I'm about to say this, but being here with you today. Makes me realize that true happiness is possible." Poppy took in Bridget's words with true wonder, but Gristle didn't understand the full depth of her statement.
"It is! True happiness is a lot closer than you think. It's right here." King Gristle gestured to his pendant. Bridget didn't want to be rude and felt a little off by this. She is talking about the two of them, not material things. Still she told him that it looked nice but at the same time had felt rejected. Gristle saw the look on her face and realized his mistake. He had been trying to be charming, not rude. Quickly he openned the pendant to reveal the troll that everyone had thought had died. Creep. I mean. Creek. Branch could not believe Poppy was right. Creek was alive and right infront of them. King Gristle closed the pendant back up before anyone could process what they just learned. Gristle was now asking Bridget if she could attend Trollstice as his plus one, which accepted eagerly.
After the shock of seeing the captive troll wore off Gristle invited Bridget to go skating and the two were having the time of their lives. That was until Chef had found the young royal looking almost happy. "Your majesty. You seem to be having. Fun." Chef was not pleased by the look of how things were going. "I am! Meet the lovely Lady Glittersparkles." King Gristle happily introduced his new friend. "You remind me of someone." Chef looked at Bridget genuinely wondering where she had seen this girl before. No one in Bergan Town was ever this colorful, but her face. She had seen thart face before. "She's gonna be my plus one." King Gristle told Chef. This changed her tone, pleased to know that the plan of Troolstice was still in play.
"Oh, I see. For a moment there ,I was concerned you were changing the plan. Well, this won't be a problem at all, Your Highness. I'll just get my worthless scullery maid to get. Another place setting ready for the lovely. Lady Glittersparkles. Put her place setting next to mine. I want her right by my side." Gristle did not see the change in expression of Chef's face, because he was too enthralled with the Lady GlitterSparkles standing next to him. That was until she dashed off losing one of her skates at the steps of the Arcade. King Gristle chased after her but still having one skate on she was too fast for him. "Hey! Lady Glittersparkles? Lady Glittersparkles! I'll see you at Trollstice, yeah? I miss you already." He said bending down, picking up the single skate, and kissed it. He could not wait until he saw his love again.
When Bridget got back back to the castle, headed straight to her room, the trolls hopped off the Bergan girl's head and onto the table cheering for her successful date. "I think the king really likes us." Cooper said excitedly. "I know, right?" Biggie added to the excitement in the room. "That was the greatest day of my life! Thanks, Poppy. Thanks to all of you! Even you, I guess. I just never thought something like that could happen to me. And it just did! I'm so excited I could just scream." This triggered a chain of yells and screams from the trolls. That is until everyone stopped upon hearing an angery screech. They all turned to see where the cry was coming from and saw that it was coming from Branch. "Mommy, what's wrong?" Suki asked nervously. "Nothing. I thought we were celebrating." Branch said, confused.
Cooper: That's your happy shout?" Everyone was surprised at the reveal. Branch gave one of her famous frowns. "It's been a while." Keith ran up to his mom and gave her a tight hug. "It's ok mommy. I love your happy shout." Branch just gave a small smile towards her son.
Poppy wanted to be encouraging to her as well so she came up to the grey mom. "Well, you're gonna have plenty of practice, because we're gonna save Creek.. And life will be all cupcakes and rainbows again." Branch held up her hand to give Poppy a high five before whipping it away before she could hit it. "Up top! Too slow." Branch gave a sly grin to Poppy who just smiled back as Suki and Keith giggled. When Poppy announced that they needed to get Creek and Bridget freaked out blocking the door. "You can't leave Lady GlitterSparkles needs to make an appearance tonight." Bridget begged. Poppy tried to convince her to come clean and that she didn't need them any more, but things did not go over too well. Bridget started to regret ever going on that date and began to wallow into her pillow once more. Poppy felt terrible and wanted to fix things but Creek didn't have much time. She left with Branch and the others to go rescue her boyfriend.
In King Gristle's room he was getting ready to work out talking to his pet gator. "We can do this, Barnabus. I just have to lose 30 pounds in the next eight hours." Gristle said, placing his earphones on before turning on the treadmill to start running. With the music coming through the earphones Gristle was not able to hear his door open or the little voices that came through it. The trolls made their way to Gristle's bed over to the cape that held the pendant, but when they tried to open it the lock was stuck. Branch and Smidge pulled as hard as they could but it would not budge. Cruelly fate gave them yet another obstacle to face as Barnabus hopped onto the bed eyeing them. The moment the trolls saw the gator they unhooked the pendant from the cape and began to run. They were chased around the bedroom wrecking every inch of it, but the King was in his own world blissfully unaware of the chaos that was going on behind him.
Poppy realized that running around in circles was getting them nowhere; she saw Bridget's lost skate and led the group towards it. Once they were all in Barnabus tried to stop but couldn't. He skidded and bumped the skate with such force that it launched the troll filled skate out the door. Even though they had escaped the room they were not free yet. Barnabus refused to stop his pasute of the trolls, chasing all throughout the castle. Harper and Milton grabbed Suki, Gary, and Keith, bringing them lower into the skate and out of harm's way. Branch was grateful for this as she was preoccupied with holding the pendant alongside Poppy who was doing a fantastimazing job at showing her leadership skills as she ordered and directed everyone into helping them get away from the gator and out of the castle. There were many twists and turns and at one point they had almost lost the pendant but eventually they made it where they were no longer being chased they all tried to open the pendant one more time. It opened, but what they saw was devastating. It was empty. They were too late, but despairingly that was not the only issue.
Chef stood right behind them recapturing them. Taunting them for their failed escape. "Sorry, but I can't have you leaving before tomorrow's dinner. A dinner to which you are all invited. And when I say all. I mean every Troll in Troll Village." Poppy was seething. "You'll never find them. Not where they're hiding." Poppy was so very grateful at that moment for Branch's paranoia, because she had truly built the perfect place to protect the entire village from Chef. Chef knew that she was right. "You're right. I couldn't find them. But I could with someone they know. Someone they trust. Someone. Like this guy." Chef reached into her fanny pack and pulled out the last thing any of them had ever expected. Creek.
Poppy was overjoyed at the sight of her boyfriend. Her heart had truly shattered when they had opened that pendant and saw that he was not there. The entire time she had been keeping up hope that he was still alive and that they would be together once again soon, so seeing him now she was too overjoyed to ask any question. "Creek! You're alive!" Branch however could see through Creek's smug smile. "He's selling us out!" Branch said as she immediately started to strangle Creek with her hair. Poppy tried to stop her. "Branch! Wait! I'm sure there's a reasonable explanation. At least give him a chance." At that branch stopped and walked away from the edge of the cage and straight towards her children whom for a moment she had forgotten they were there watching. "I'm so sorry you had to see that." Branch bent down to hug her kids. Hesitated for a moment being a little scared of what they had just seen their mother do.
"Thank you, Poppy. Branch, still a bad mother I see. Also I'm selling you out." Creek said, with no guilt in his voice, but the moment those words he was being straingled once more by hair. Not Branch's hair. Poppy's. Suki and Keith ran straight towards their mom as everyone else ran to Poppy to try and save Creek. Branch just hugged her kids as she watched Poppy with a proud smile on her face. Eventually everyone managed to pull Poppy off of Creek, but she kept her angry expression towards Creek. "You better explain yourself, Creek!" The guru troll still had no sign of remorse on his face as he told his story of how he traded the lives of every troll in the village to save himself. "No... Creek, please don't do this." Poppy begged.
Poppy could not believe what she was hearing. The man she loved was betraying everyone just to save himself. "Believe me... I wish there was some other me-not-getting-eaten way, but there isn't, and now I have to live with this for the rest of my life. At least you get to die with a clear conscience. So, in a way. You could say. I 'm doing this for you. Boop!" He booped her nose with one hand and grabbed her cowbell with the other all the while making Poppy flinched at the action. She felt sick at this moment. He was blaming her for all of this. Doing this for her benefit. Creek was sick. Chef moved all the captive trolls into one giant cooking pot before grabbing Creek once more, putting him back in her fanny pack, zipping it up and leaving with the Bergan Guards.
Once they were all gone Poppy lost all the contents in her stomach and started to cry. "How could Creek do this? I-I loved him." Poppy said through sobs. All Poppy's friends could do was hug her as they were all left speechless about the turn of events. Keith in turn crawled back into his sister's hair and Suki ran straight to her mother hoping to do the very same. Branch lifted Suki up so she could hide inside of her hair. Branch knew that Creek was a jerk but this goes beyond that. How could he do something like this? Branch was never the biggest fan of Creek but not even she could have guessed that he would do something as despicable as this. She looked over at Poppy and her heart broke.
Cooper went over to his sister to try and comfort her the best he could. Poppy immediately clung to him like her life depended on it. Cooper and Branch made eye contact with one another wordlessly saying that now was not the time to critisizing, but for comfort. They both knew that things were going to get a lot worse before they could even begin to get better. But one thing was for sure. Once they somehow got out of here, there was going to be a long and negative conversation about Creek. That is if they ever got out of there.
King Peppy and the other trolls waited patiently for the others to come back. He was ashamed to say that they were not so respectful to the Grey troll's home. He could only do so much but everyone was curious as to what was kept in this bunker. They found jams, and herbs that Branch kept, tools she used to fix things around the village. Books and toys for her kids. Party invitations that Poppy had given to Branch over the years. They had also found a personal journal and much to the troll king's dismay they had read through it. It was filled with poems of all sorts and the village had no clue that the grey troll could even feel so deeply. After they had read such personal information in Branch's private journal they all rightfully felt ashamed of their actions. Before King Peppy could even reprimand them for doing such an act they all heard Poppy's cowbel and were overjoyed at her return home. They all left the safety of the bunker to only be met with a bitter surprise.
Ok so I was going to add a little more but I think that this is actually a perfect stopping point. Also I think that I might have been listening to one too many murder mysties. Anyway I hope that this is another successful chapter to this story. I really am excited by this and am getting more and more hyped up as we come to an end to the first movie soon. Like I said this is a Branch X Hickory fanfic and he does not show up till the second movie so we will just have to wait. I was given such a surprise when my first troll fanfiction was met with such a lovely audience that I can only hope for the same for this one. I know that most of that fanfiction I can claim as mine I never truly felt I could take ownership over it because it did start off as someone else's fanfic that I just took over and finished, but this one is truly my own. I know that this chapter is a little shorteer than the others but like I said I felt like this was the perfect stopping spot. I am going to try to get three more chapters out by the end of the day tomorrow and by then I should be done with the first movie of trolls. Well I trule hope y'all have enoyed reading this latest chapter and until the next time. Bye-bye for now my little Bookworms.
