Girls' Frontline

The world as we know it began with an explosion. The sudden burst of matter brought all that we know about the great cosmos today and also the things we haven't learned.

Then came the explosions created by humanity itself, be it lowly dynamite or the great nuclear bombs.

Then arrived the Collapse, mankind ripped apart at the seams, great pieces of land and with it history deemed unrecoverable for generations to come.

The life in the universe started with an explosion...

And mine ended with one.

It started raining after I was done, I've managed to hold off the enemy long enough for Commander to retreat.

And now I'm lade bare before the uncaring cosmos up above, coughing and wheezing, bleeding and slowly dying.

The world doesn't care about the plight of a single man, and I don't hold them against it. My time is running out but I'm at peace.

The people who hated me are forgiven, the people who wanted me dead are forgiven, my friends and family - my comrades are forgiven.

And as I closed my eyes...

"This is good... isn't it?"

I awoke with a start on a small yacht docked at some nondescript island, blue waters as far as the eye can see, the sun gently shining down on me as it was setting.

At that moment all I did was slowly sit down in a chair with a cooler next to it. Opening and picking out a can of beer, I simply looked on towards the horizon, allowing myself to rest after all this time.

The sound of crashing waves gently soothing me to sleep.

"Persica, will he make it?" she asked the eccentric scientist on call.

"He won't I'm afraid, I barely managed to make a copy of him before his brain activity fizzled out completely." she answered with a tinge of regret and frustration.

"He's to be used for some project of your then?! At this point I think it would've been better to just let him die as is without your intervention!"

The conversation became an anger fueled mess until both of them calmed down after a while.

"I made sure to send him to a single place not disturbed by anyone, he will be happy now." Persica told the woman on call before hanging up. Exhaustion fully taking over.

"Goodbye, old friend."

Author: Decided to just turn this into a collection of brain worms I collect as I listen to different pieces of music.

The updates will be highly irregular, you never know when you might get a bout of inspiration after all.
