Chapter 1: Mending the Broken
Rapunzel's POV
The ballroom of Arendelle was filled with laughter and joy as we celebrated the tremendous accomplishments of the kingdom. Merida, Hiccup, and I were enjoying ourselves immensely, our spirits lifted by the lively music and the swirling, colorful gowns of the guests. The chandeliers above sparkled like stars in the night sky, casting a warm, golden glow over the entire room.
As I scanned the crowd, my heart skipped a beat when my eyes landed on Eugene. He stood across the room, looking as charming as ever with his roguish grin and perfectly styled hair. For a moment, I forgot about the painful memories of our separation and the affair that had torn us apart. I felt an overwhelming urge to go to him, but hesitated, remembering the hurt and betrayal we had both experienced.
Noticing my gaze, Merida approached me, her fiery red hair standing out against the sea of people. "Rapunzel, I know things have been tough, but maybe you should go talk to him," she encouraged, her deep blue eyes filled with concern.
"But what if he's still angry?" I asked, my voice shaking.
"Rapunzel, you won't know unless you talk to him. It's better to face your fears than to let them hold you back," Merida replied, her tone gentle yet insistent.
Taking a deep breath, I slowly walked across the crowded ballroom, feeling my heart race with each step. As I approached Eugene, he noticed me, and his eyes widened with surprise.
"What is it?" He asked.
"Can we talk?"
He looked around, then pulled me aside, the warmth of his touch familiar and comforting.
"Why do you want to talk, after what you did?" he asked, his voice tense and guarded.
"Eugene, I am so sorry," I whispered, tears streaming down my face. "I never meant to hurt you. I've been lost since you left, and I didn't know what to do."
"You hurt me, Rapunzel," he said quietly, his eyes glistening with unshed tears. "But I can see the pain you're in, too."
I nodded, taking a shaky breath. "I know there's no excuse for what I did, but I want you to know how much I regret it. I've been in such a dark place since you left that I... I even tried to end my life," I confessed, my voice barely audible.
Eugene's eyes widened, and he pulled me closer, his arms wrapping around me protectively. "I never wanted that for you, Rapunzel. I never wanted to see you hurt like this."
Overwhelmed with emotions, I broke away from Eugene and ran out of the ballroom, my sobs echoing through the halls. I found solace in an empty, dimly lit room, collapsing onto a couch as I cried. The soft fabric hugged my trembling body, but it couldn't fill the void inside me.
Moments later, the door creaked open, and I looked up in surprise to see Eugene standing there. His eyes were filled with a mixture of concern, sadness, and something else - something that resembled hope.
"I've missed you too, Rapunzel," he said softly, his voice cracking with emotion. "I regret ever leaving."
As he spoke those words, it was as if a weight was lifted from my heart. I stood up and felt like I needed to pour all my feelings out.
There were nights when the wind was so cold
That my body froze in bed
If I just listened to it right outside the window
There were days when the sun was so cruel
That all the tears turned to dust
And I just knew my eyes were drying up forever
I finished crying in the instant that you left
And I can't remember where or when or how
And I banished every memory you and I had ever made
I turned away from him. But then he came up from behind me and put his arms around me.
But when you touch me like this
And you hold me like that
I just have to admit
That it's all coming back to me
When I touch you like this
And I hold you like that
It's so hard to believe but
It's all coming back to me
It's all coming back
It's all coming back to me now
There were moments of gold
And there were flashes of light
There were things I'd never do again
But then they'd always seemed right
There were nights of endless pleasure
It was more than any laws allow
Baby, baby, baby
If I kiss you like this
And if you whisper like that
It was lost long ago
But it's all coming back to me
If you want me like this
And if you need me like that
It's so hard to resist
And it's all coming back to me
I can barely recall
But it's all coming back to me now
If you forgive me all this
If I forgive you all that
We forgive and forget
And it's all coming back to me now
We moved closer until our lips met in a passionate, tender kiss, our tears mingling and our broken hearts beginning to heal. As we pulled away from the kiss, we stared into each other's eyes, searching for a glimmer of hope and forgiveness.
"Eugene, do you think we can find our way back to each other?" I asked hesitantly, my voice still shaking with emotion.
He sighed, his eyes never leaving mine. "I don't know, Rapunzel. It won't be easy, and it will take time to rebuild the trust we've lost. But if you're willing to try, then I am too."
A small smile tugged at the corners of my lips. "I am Eugene. I want to make things right between us."
He returned my smile, reaching out to gently wipe away my tears. "Then let's take it one step at a time. We can't change the past, but we can learn from it and build a stronger future together."
As we sat there on the couch, holding each other close, we knew that the road ahead would be filled with challenges and uncertainty. But we also knew that with love, patience, and determination, we could overcome the obstacles and find our way back to the happiness we once shared.
…
Elsa's POV
As the sun began to rise, its warm rays gently caressing my face, I woke up feeling surprisingly at peace. The ball celebrating Arendelle's liberation from Zika and her followers had been a great success, and it seemed like the entire kingdom had come together to rejoice.
I decided to dress simply, not wanting to draw attention to myself. I donned a plain, yet comfortable, dress and slipped out of the castle into the garden. The sweet aroma of flowers filled my nostrils, and I watched as the birds flitted about, singing their morning songs. As I strolled through the garden, I couldn't help but smile, thinking about how much my mother used to love these very same flowers.
Finding a quiet spot near a pond, I sat down and allowed myself to relax, something I hadn't done in what felt like ages. The water in the pond was so clear and still that it perfectly mirrored the sky above. As I sat there, the events of the past few days began to creep into my mind.
I had been under an evil spell, one that had caused me to freeze Arendelle once again. The guilt I felt for the suffering and chaos my actions had caused weighed heavily on my heart.
Suddenly, I heard footsteps approaching. I looked up to see Jack and Anna coming towards me. Their expressions were a mix of concern and love.
"Elsa, is everything alright?" Anna asked gently as she sat down beside me.
"I... I can't stop feeling guilty about what happened when I was under that spell," I confessed, my voice cracking slightly. "I froze Arendelle again, and it's all my fault."
Jack knelt in front of me, taking my hands in his. "Elsa, you can't blame yourself for something that was out of your control. You were under a spell; it wasn't your fault."
"I know, but I feel that the people will never forgive me," I said as a tear streamed down my cheek.
Jack looked up at Anna. She smiled and knelt next to Jack.
"Elsa, what do you remember about what happened?" She asked.
I began to search through my memories over the past few months. All from reliving my past, from the visions of the past stopped and I saw the Resistance agent. But then I remembered a little girl running to the stage I was on when I was going to be executed.
"I remember a little girl, she ran up to the stage and begged me to thaw the kingdom, but at the time I didn't know how."
Anna then smiled, "That's because she believed in you."
I looked at her to elaborate.
"Jones told me that Arendelle had resisted Zika's rule the most. In five years, there were over fifty revolts. Of course, Zika and her people would find a way to force them to comply, but the people always fought back."
"Why?"
"Because of you," Jack answered.
"Me?"
"Yes," Anna replied. "The people used you as their rallying call. Even when they got you to freeze Arendelle again, that made them believe that you were going to save them."
I began to remember more about the events of that day. The people weren't happy, they looked scared and sorrowful.
"They still want me to rule them?"
Jack and Anna nodded. "More than ever," Anna said.
"If that's the case, I'm gonna need you."
Jack smiled and hugged me. "Of course."
"We're here for you and face the challenges together," Anna said.
Now, now more than ever
We must stick together
United
Now
It's now or never
So, let's face the future
Clear-sighted
Somehow, we've managed to make it this far
It's been one heck of a ride
There's nothing I couldn't do
Not with you by my side
Maybe tomorrow we'll find, to our sorrow
Our story has come to an ending
Maybe we're fated to be separated
Who knows where our paths might be bending
How I wish we could stay here forever this way
But perhaps there's no point in pretending
If we're destined to head in our own different ways
Let's make the most of these sweet final days
Why not go out in a glorious blaze?
'Cause now
Now more than ever
We're still here together
United
Now
It's now or never
So let's stand as one
Undivided
When we look at this back at this moment we had
Betcha we tremble with pride
There's nothing I couldn't do
Not with you by my side
What in the world would I do
Without you
Without you
Without you
By my side
"Thank you," I whispered, my eyes glistening with unshed tears. "I don't know what I would do without you both."
Together, we sat by the pond, basking in the warmth of the morning sun and the love that surrounded us, knowing that we would always have each other.
