Episode 340: Hooked on Onix
Before I begin this chapter, I thought I should share with you that I have decided to do my own take on the Hooked on Onix episode. So, I thought of having it being a group of Onix being the dominant Pokémon instead of just a single Onix while the Geodude evolution line are just the second threats to our friends. Anyway, enjoy.
A couple of days have passed since Roxas has caught his own Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Bulbasaur, and they didn't long to fit in.
We see them taking a walk through a mountain region.
"Where are we?" Chase asked.
"I don't know. I don't think we've ever been through here," Sora said.
"Pikachu," Pikachu said.
"I don't think so, either, but there is something familiar about this whole area," Kairi said.
"How can it familiar to you since you haven't been here before?" Elaine asked.
"Well, it just seems like a good short cut, so why might as well use it while we can, right?" Xion asked.
"Xion has a point, Elaine. We should be able to reach the next town if we go this way," Chase said.
"Pikachu," Volt said.
"Eevee," Maple said.
Unknown to any of them, a group of Geodude and Graveler were watching them. One looks at the others and they all nodded in agreement.
They made a stop for some lunch as Kairi has prepared some soup, making sure there was enough for everyone.
"Soup's on," Kairi said, tapping a bowl with her ladle. She hands one to Chase. Sora, Roxas, Xion, Chase, and Elaine happily ate the soup, enjoying the taste.
"Wow, Kairi. This soup tastes better than what my mom makes," Chase said.
"Glad you like it, Chase. There's plenty to go around if you want seconds," Kairi said.
"Yay!" Elaine cheered.
The Pokémon were eating the food provided to them by Kairi. Roxas's Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle enjoyed every bit the Pokémon food Kairi had made.
"This is the best thing I have ever eaten in my life." - Charmander subtitle.
"Kairi has that magic touch. Isn't that right, Angel?" - Xipak subtitle.
"She sure does. There isn't a thing she can't make taste delicious." - Angel subtitle.
"After tasting this, I do not doubt it." - Squirtle subtitle.
"I think I'm going to get used to this kind of food." - Bulbasaur subtitle.
The rest of the Pokémon agreed as they kept on eating, unaware of the gathering Geodude and Graveler arriving and quickly disguising themselves as rocks and boulders to avoid detection.
As everyone kept on eating, several Golem were hiding behind the pillars of stone, being careful not being seen by the group.
Sora took one last gulp of his bowl and he smacked his lips.
"Ah! That hits the spot," Sora said.
"You've said it, brother," Roxas said.
"I kinda wish we had some sea salt ice cream for dessert," Xion said.
"Sea salt ice cream?" Chase asked.
"It's actually our favorite flavor of ice cream," Xion said.
"It's salty and it's sweet at the same time," Roxas said.
"That sounds weird," Elaine said.
"You shouldn't knock it until you try it, Elaine," Sora said.
"He's right. You might like it," Roxas said.
"Those two are literally alike if they love Kairi's cooking all that much," Chase said.
"You've said it, Chase. And it's absolutely no wonder," Elaine said.
"Well, we should start cleaning up around here before we take off," Xion said.
"I was going to say the same thing, Xion," Kairi said.
Just when the group was about to clean up, the Geodude and Graveler revealed themselves to the group.
"Those are Geodude and their evolved forms, Graveler," Sora said.
"Pika," Pikachu said.
"Where did they come from?" Chase asked.
"They must live in this area," Xion said.
"She's right. Geodude and Graveler do live on mountains and in canyons," Sora said.
"And we should be fine as long as we don't do anything that will aggravate them," Kairi said.
"Chu," Pukachu said.
"Vee," Angel said.
The Geodude and Graveler began to use Rollout, alerting them.
"Run for it!" Chase shouted.
And they ran for their lives as the Geodude and Graveler rolled after them. Just then, the Golem came out of hiding.
"Wha?! Golem too?!" Roxas exclaimed. The Golem all hurls rocks at the group.
"They're using Rock Slide!" Kairi exclaimed.
"Mamoswine! Ice Shard!" Sora ordered.
"Glaceon! Ice Beam!" Kairi ordered.
Mamoswine and Glaceon fired their attacks at the Golem. They went back to running as Sora, Kairi, Roxas, Xion, Chase, and Elaine quickly called back their Pokémon, knowing they'll be safer inside, and for protection against the Rock-type Pokémon. The Geodude, Graveler, and Golem gave chase after them, forcing them to separate. Sora, Kairi, Roxas, Elaine, Pikachu, Angel, Xipak, and Maple went one way as Xion, Chase, Celeste, and Volt went the other way.
"Xion!" Roxas exclaimed.
"Xion!" Elaine called out.
"Keep running!" Sora said.
With no time to go back, they keep on running, leaving behind a dust cloud. The Geodude, Graveler, and Golem separated, going after them.
Seeing that they managed to lose the Rock-types, Sora, Kairi, Roxas, Elaine, Pikachu, Angel, Xipak, and Maple made a stop to catch their breath. They were panting heavily.
"Man, this is crazy," Sora said, panting.
"Pika," Pikachu said, also panting.
"I never had to run this hard in my whole life," Roxas said, also panting.
"Chu," Xipak said, also panting.
"Just what was that all about? I thought you said we'd fine as long as we didn't make them mad," Elaine said, panting.
"Vee," Maple said, panting.
"They shouldn't have, but they were really mad about something," Kairi said, panting.
"Eevee," Angel said, panting.
"Sora was right one thing. This is crazy. What could have egged them on?" Elaine asked.
"I don't know, but here's what I do know. They were definitely mad about something. And we didn't even do anything to provoke them," Roxas said.
"Yeah, something's off," Sora said, stroking his chin. As they were all thinking, Kairi then remembered something very important. She began to put two and two together, figuring out why the Geodude, Graveler, and Golem attacked them.
"I remembered something," Kairi said.
"What?" Roxas asked.
"What's so important?" Sora asked.
"Do you remember when we were trying to head for Vermillion City and we ended up getting lost in that mist, Sora?" Kairi asked.
"Sure I do. How could I forget? It was when we met Harold, and went in that school for rich kids. What about it?" Sora asked.
(Flashback)
We go back to Sora, Kairi, Pikachu, and Angel wondering the canyon, heading for Vermillion City for Sora's third Gym Badge.
"It was after you earned your second Badge from Misty, and we were looking for the fastest way to head for Vermillion City when someone stopped us," Kairi narrated. An elderly man with a very long white beard came to them. He held a wooden staff and he wore dark clothes and ragged shoes with his toes being visible.
"Yeah, I remember. It was an old man who looked like he didn't have a bath since he was a baby. And smelled like it, too," Sora narrated.
"You two youngsters are heading the wrong way!" The elderly man said.
"What do you mean? This is one of the ways to get to Vermillion City," Sora said. The old man hits Sora on the head with his staff. "Ouch!"
"Don't talk back to your elders, sonny! When old people start a speakin' you better start a listenin'. It ain't safe going down this way. because of Geodude, Graveler, Golem, and Onix claim this here land as their own, and they ain't too welcoming to visitors. No siree Bob!" The elderly man said.
"Geodude, Graveler, Golem, and Onix?" Sora asked.
"They claim this area as their territory?" Kairi asked.
"They sure do, missy. If you go in that place, then you really have rocks in them heads of yours," the elderly man said, chuckling. "Now, why don't you just skedaddle on out of here and mosey on," the elderly man said as Sora, Kairi, Pikachu, and Angel took their leave.
"Well, so much for a stroll through the mountains," Sora said.
"But, at least we still have some adventure going on ahead of us," Kairi said.
"Yeah, you got a point there, Kairi. We can just make a short cut through the woods," Sora said.
(Flashback ends)
"That's why you recognized it, isn't it?" Sora asked.
"Yeah, and I'm starting to wish I didn't," Kairi said.
"You mean to tell us, you almost went down this way before and you were stopped by some random old man from going this way?" Elaine asked.
"Yeah. Although, I would feel sorry for the poor sap who ended up going this way," Sora said.
(Flashback)
It was shortly after the old man shooed Sora and Kairi away when Team Rocket were still on the trail of Pikachu.
"You sure the twerps came down this way, Jessie?" James asked.
"Yes, I am sure. Where else would they go?" Jessie asked.
"Well, there's always the forest down this way," Meowth said.
"Keep your thoughts in your head where they belong, Meowth. They went this way, and that's that!" Jessie said. Just then, the Geodude and Graveler emerged from the ground, angered that they came. "Look at that. Geodude and Graveler."
"Maybe we can just take these and present them to the boss," James said.
"We just gotta nab us some Golem, and we can have the full set," Meowth said. The Geodude and Graveler attacked with Rollout and they struck Team Rocket on the mark, making them go flying.
"No fair! We didn't even get a single one," Jessie cried.
"People always said our heads were full of rocks," James said.
"No wonder we're so thick-headed," Meowth said.
"WE'RE BLASTING OFF AGAIN!" Team Rocket shouted as they went flying. A star twinkled in the distance.
(End of flashback)
Sounds like something that would happen to them, right? Just thought I'd bring this in. Anyway, back to the main story.
"We haven't seen any Onix around here," Elaine pointed out.
"Eevee," Maple said.
"Not yet, anyway," Roxas said.
"Pikachu," Xipak said.
Just when they were about to take off, a green Onix erupts from the earth with a loud roar.
"An Onix!" Roxas exclaimed.
"Run for it!" Sora shouted as the Onix attacked with an Iron Tail. Rocks go flying after them. Sora quickly takes out his Pokéball and opened it. "Walrein! Go!" His Pokéball opened and Walrein emerged from inside. "Use Ice Ball!" Walrein unleashed Ice Ball and sends it at the Rock Snake Pokémon, landing a hit.
We have a look at Xion, Chase, Celeste, and Volt as they were panting from all the running they were doing.
"That was so close. I thought we were done for," Chase said, panting.
"Pika," Volt said.
"I'll say," Xion said, panting.
"Vee," Celeste said.
"But where did we run to?" Xion asked.
"I don't know," Chase said as he and Xion looked around. They saw there was a field of flowers nearby.
"Oh, look at how pretty these flowers look," Xion said. Out in the distance, there was a flower that's just as tall as a palm tree. Peeking out of the flower is a Beedrill who sees Xion pick a flower. "Here, Celeste. A flower for you."
"Eevee," Celeste said.
"It looks cute on you, Celeste," Xion cooed. Chase and Volt looked at the two of them and smiled over how they were bonding. They suddenly hear buzzing noises.
"You hear something?" Chase asked.
"Pikachu," Volt said.
Both Trainer and Pokémon looked around and saw an incoming Beedrill heading their way. Not too long, more Beedrill began to show up. Chase and Volt screamed when they saw the Poison Bee Pokémon coming.
"Beedrill!" Chase screamed. He grabbed Xion as Volt grabbed Celeste and began running.
"Chase, what are you doi-" Xion paused when she saw the pursuing them. "Never mind." Chase and Volt kept on running, still carrying Xion and Celeste and leaving behind a dust cloud. They soon ran into a squadron of Geodude, Graveler, Golem, and an Onix, forcing Chase and Volt stop. The Beedrill sees the Rock-types Pokémon. Knowing they were no match against them, the Beedrill began to retreat. "The Beedrill are retreating! You can put me down, now."
"Um, you sure about that?" Chase asked.
"I'm sure," Xion said.
"Okay. But don't blame me for what's coming next," Chase said, putting Xion down on her feet. Volt does the same thing for Celeste.
"What do you mean?" Xion asked when she turned around. She gasped when she saw the Rock-type Pokémon glaring at her and Celeste. "I see what you mean."
"Eevee," Celeste said.
The Onix roared as the Geodude, Graveler, and Golem begun their assault, using Rock Throw and Rock Slide. They began to run for it as the Rock-types began chasing them. Onix fired a Dragon Pulse at them, causing them to be caught in the blast.
"That was Dragon Pulse," Chase said.
"I don't think they're going to let us get away that easily," Xion said, taking out a Pokéball and threw it. "Oddish! I choose you!" Her Oddish came out with a twirl. "Use Razor Leaf!" Oddish fired Razor Leaf, hitting them. "Chase, you gotta battle them, too!"
"You sure? There are too many of them!" Chase said.
"You gotta try!" Xion said.
"Okay," Chase said, taking out a Pokéball and threw it. "Okay, Paras! You're going in!" His Pokéball opened and his Paras came out. "Paras! Use your Spore!" Paras unleashed a sparkling green powder at the Rock-types, making them fall asleep.
"Great thinking, Chase," Xion praised.
"I just did the only thing I could think of. It won't be long until they wake up; and I have a feeling they're not going to be happy to see us," Chase said.
"Pikachu," Volt said.
"You're right. We should go," Xion said.
Chase agreed with Xion and went with her when three other Onix appeared and surrounded them.
"Paras! Spore again!" Chase ordered. Paras sends out the same kind of powder at one of the Onix, making it fall asleep.
"Oddish! Razor Leaf!" Xion ordered. Oddish fired Razor Leaf at the other two, hitting the both of them. Xion, Chase, Celeste, and Volt ran as the two Onix woke up the sleeping Pokémon.
Back with Sora, Kairi, Roxas, Elaine, Pikachu, Angel, Xipak, Celeste, and Maple, they were being pursued by a small group of Onix as Sora has Walrein, Tropius, Kingler, Scizor, Mamoswine, Poliwrath, and Meltan out as Kairi has Vaporeon, Glaceon, Leafeon, and Chikorita out. Roxas has his Bulbasaur and Squirtle out to fend them off.
"Chikorita! Magical Leaf!" Kairi ordered.
"Kingler! Bubble Beam! Poliwrath! Water Pulse!" Sora ordered.
"Bulbasaur! Vine Whip! Squirtle! Water Gun!" Roxas ordered.
The Pokémon fired their chosen attacks, hitting the Rock-types.
"Scizor! Metal Claw! Mamoswine! Ice Fang!" Sora ordered. Mamoswine and Scizor landed their attacks, hitting them. "Meltan! Flash Cannon!" Meltan fired Flash Cannon, hitting an Onix on the mark.
Several more Geodude and Graveler cuts off their escape. A couple more Onix appeared along with them.
"You want a fight, do you? Then you got one! Bulbasaur! Vine Whip!" Roxas ordered. Bulbasaur smacked the Geodude and Graveler. "Squirtle! Water Gun!" Squirtle fired Water Gun, hitting one of the Onix.
"Mamoswine! Use Stomping Tantrum!" Sora ordered. Mamoswine stomps on the ground, making the ground shake.
"Leafeon! Use Trailblaze!" Kairi ordered. Leafeon leapt at one of the Graveler, and pounced on its face. "Use Energy Ball!" Leafeon fired Energy Ball, hitting them. More Geodude and Graveler come. "Glaceon! Use Ice Beam!" Glaceon fired Ice Beam, freezing some of the Geodude. "Vaporeon! Use Aqua Tail!" Vaporeon swings her tail, hitting a Graveler.
"Kingler! Crabhammer! Tropius! Use Magical Leaf!" Sora ordered. Kingler swings his large pincer at the Geodude and Graveler as Tropius fired Magical Leaf, hitting the Rock-types. "Let's move!" Everyone started running again.
Back with Xion, Chase, Celeste, and Volt, they keep on running as the Rock-types keeps on chasing after them.
"Being chased by Rock-types, and our Pokémon are getting pooped! What else could happen?" Chase asked.
Just then, is a gargantuan, brutish Heartless wielding a large axe appeared. Its body is purple and covered in armor, with an opening in the middle where its head sticks out, surrounded by chains attached to the armor. It has a jagged yellow mask covering its lower face, with the rest of its face darkened. Above its yellow eyes is a purple helmet where its Heartless emblem is placed. Above its head is the top of its body, surrounded by two massive dark shoulder plates which feature golden hexagonal outer plates and a massive cracked horn on each. On each of its arms is a jagged purple plate of armor with a chain wrapped around it. Its legs are smaller than its body, and have two plates of armor above its golden feet. The massive axe it wields has a golden handle with a purple Heartless face in its center and blocky blades on each side. This Heartless is known as the Rock Troll.
"You had to ask," Xion deadpanned.
"I'm sorry I did," Chase said as the Rock Troll swings its axe down. "Watch out!" Chase exclaimed as the Rock Troll lifts the axe back up. It unleashes rocks at the two of them as Xion quickly summons her Keyblade and engaged the large Heartless. The Rock Troll quickly overpowers her. Xion sees that it's too strong for her to defeat by herself.
"Run!" Xion said.
With that said, Xion, Chase, Celeste, and Volt ran again with the giant-sized Heartless pursuing them.
Meanwhile, Sora, Kairi, Roxas, Elaine, Pikachu, Angel, Xipak, and Maple kept on running from the Rock-types as one of the Onix fired a Dragon Breath at them.
"Meltan! Flash Cannon!" Sora ordered. Meltan fired Flash Cannon, blocking Onix's Dragon Breath.
The two separate groups all run into a single chasm.
"Xion!" Roxas happily exclaimed.
"Roxas!" Xion also exclaimed with joy.
"Chase!" Sora, Kairi, and Elaine said.
"Sora, Elaine, Kairi!" Chase said.
"We're glad you're okay," Kairi said.
"Yeah, for now!" Chase said.
Before any of them could ask what he meant, they saw the Rock Troll coming towards them. The Geodude, Graveler, Golem, and Onix were coming, too, but when they saw the Rock Troll, they flinched in fear and they turned and fled into the mountains.
"Great. Just when we had Geodude, Graveler, Golem, and Onix to worry about, we got a huge Heartless, too," Sora said.
"Pikachu," Pikachu said.
"We're gonna have to take that thing down," Roxas said.
"He's right. I would choose being chased by an Onix anyway," Kairi said as she, Sora, and Roxas summoned their Keyblades. Several more Heartless arrive to fight along with the Rock Troll. They consist of Soldiers, Armored Knights, Watchers, Crimson Jazzes, Silver Dragons, Emblem Seahorses, Mandipedes, Cyclodactyls, Wreckadillos, Octoshells, and Uni-Walruses.
Sora, Kairi, Roxas, and Xion went for the Heartless and struck down the smaller ones that came after them. A Silver Dragon spewed fire at them as an Emblem Seahorse fired a green energy blast. A Mandipede clamped its mandibles and went for Xion, but she managed to strike it down as Kairi casts a crystal fire spell, hitting a handful of Soldiers. The Watchers fired lasers down at them, but the Keyblade wielders quickly casts their reflect spell, making them bounce off.
Roxas grabbed a Watcher and takes it for a spin, firing a massive laser, taking out the Armored Knights. Roxas then strikes it down. A Wreckadillo swipes its claws at Kairi, but Angel fired Swift and Celeste came in with an Iron Tail, destroying it. Xipak unleashed a Thunderbolt, destroying several Crimson Jazzes.
A Cyclodactyle flew at Roxas and crabbed him. Xipak got on the one-eyed Heartless's back and lands an Iron Tail, hitting it. It dropped Roxas, but he managed to cast a thunder spell, hitting it. The Cyclodactyl was taken out. A Uni-Walrus charged at them, but Scizor took it out with Metal Claw as the other Pokémon worked together to take down the Heartless.
The Rock Troll proved to be a challenge when it spits out rocks at them, but they managed to dodge the rocks. The Rock Troll swings its axe down again, creating a massive shockwave. The rocks go flying all around, but they managed to dodge and charge at the Rock Troll. It swings its axe from left to right. Pikachu and Xipak fired Thunderbolt, hitting it. Angel and Celeste fired Swift, hitting it, too.
Sora and Roxas heads for its face and struck it there as Kairi and Xion casts a combo of crystal fire and regular fire, hitting it. Kairi then casts a crystal spell, hitting it, but it charges at the girls as the boys came and saved their significant others. The Rock Troll keeps swinging its axe from left to right as Pikachu, Angel, Xipak, and Celeste came at it with a combo Iron Tail, hitting it in the face. The couples kept attacking the Rock Troll right until it was at last brought down. The Rock Troll dropped its axe as a heart is seen floating up to the sky before it vanished. Sora, Kairi, Roxas, and Xion dismissed their Keyblades, exhausted from all the fighting and running they were doing.
"Man, what a workout," Sora said, panting.
"I know, I'm tired, too," Roxas said, panting.
"That was an expected turn of events," Kairi panted.
"You think those Pokémon would come back for us?" Xion asked, panting.
"I don't know," Sora said, still panting.
"But that was awesome, you guys," Elaine said.
"Thanks," Sora, Kairi, Roxas, and Xion said, panting.
"Rest for a while. We'll take care of you," Chase said.
With that said, Chase, Elaine, Volt, and Maple were watching over their friends, making sure the Rock-type Pokémon didn't launch another attack. So far they didn't. Chase and Elaine must have figured the Heartless spooked them good enough to keep them away.
Once they completely caught their breath, they all got up on their feet and called their Pokémon back and they began to make their way down the mountain. They haven't seen any of the Rock-types since after lunch, but they were in the clear. They got off the mountain and they stopped to rest for the night. Roxas approached Chase to talk.
"Hey, Chase," Roxas said.
"Yeah?" Chase asked.
"Thanks for taking care of Xion for me today," Roxas said.
"No problem, Roxas. She helped me out just as much as I helped her out," Chase said.
"Yeah, I know. She told me about how you had your Paras use Spore on those Pokémon and put them to sleep," Roxas said.
"I'm glad I was able to do my part," Chase said.
"And I appreciate it," Roxas said.
They both shook hands and smiled at one another.
They had quite a day. First, they were chased by a gang of Geodude, Graveler, Golem, and Onix, and then, they were attacked by a giant axe-wielding Heartless. Only by working together, they managed to take it down. But this whole thing could have been easily avoided when that old man Sora and Kairi mentioned earlier was there to stop them. Where was he?
We have a look at the old man, sleeping in his hammock. The hammock sways left to right as the old man snores loudly.
Well, that answers that. Anyway, this is where we will end it for now, and stay tuned if you want to see some more adventures or misadventures that are to come.
