Chapter 34

Threat

Bella

The following week was relatively quiet.

After much thought, I decided to have the transformation after school as planned. If I later wished to have a child, I would still have the option of frozen egg cells.

So on Thursday, Carlisle accompanied me to a large hospital in Seattle where he had once worked. He left me with an old colleague who was a gynecologist and specialized in female infertility. She took my egg cells and then froze them.

As we were driving home, I asked Carlisle, "Couldn't we do the same for Esmé? Because she still has egg cells, right?"

"Yes, I thought of that too. But unfortunately, that wouldn't work, because when we become vampires, the cells change a bit ... because of the poison," he explained to me.

On Friday, Angela told us that the boys in the pack wanted to go back to the lake and that she should ask us - that is, Emmett and me - if we wanted to come too.

I was excited about the idea and when Alice confirmed to Emmett that there would be a light cloud cover where we were going, but it would still be warm, Emmett agreed as well.

He said he didn't feel like it for jokes about his glittery skin. He thought it looked rather campy.

I almost fell off my chair when he said the word 'campy' in the most campy way ever, making a totally gay hand gesture.

So we went back to the reservation on Saturday.

Jacob asked Sam if it would be okay if Emmett could come on their territory. While Sam wasn't thrilled to have a vampire so close, he felt that one vampire couldn't do much against so many of them.

When we arrived at Jake's, the mood was a bit frosty.

I tried to ignore it and greeted the boys.

Jared and Quil were not there. But little Seth, who became a werewolf only last year and wasn't so little anymore ... and Paul.

Paul was a hothead and in the past was in every fight.

Embry and Jake were the first to get to me and hug me.

"Hi, little one, great that you both came."

Both raised their hands toward Emmett to greet him.

"Hi ..." he said, grinning.

It didn't look like he had to suppress any urge to fight the werewolves. He looked quite relaxed, even though he gritted his teeth as everyone hugged me and gave me kisses on the forehead or cheeks.

I introduced everyone to him.

"Well, you already know Jake. This is Embry, one of his best friends. He met us when we were shopping with Alice that time. This is Seth, one of the youngest, and this is Paul," I said, pointing to each one.

Then Seth took a few steps forward and held out his hand to Emmett.

We all stood there a bit dumbfounded.

Emmett shook his hand and looked a little confused.

"Hi, Emmett. Nice to meet Bella's boyfriend," he said, laughing broadly.

"Nice to meet you too, Seth."

Emmett

The little one has real courage.

"Where are Jared and Quil? And I haven't seen Leah for a long time either," Bella asked, turning to Jacob.

Everyone rolled their eyes and groaned.

"Jared imprinted on a girl in his class. Kim," Jacob explained to her.

"Yeah, and they're more stuck on each other than Jake and Ang! The constant amorous posturing just annoys everyone."

"Quil is grounded and Leah ... well ... she's in a bad mood," Jacob said.

"Do we want to take roots here?", the guy named Embry asked and ran towards the forest.

Presumably, he did not want to further explore the topic of Leah.

The others followed him, and Bella took my hand, smiled at me and we walked behind.

As we stood in the woods, Jacob nodded to Bella and Angela, who then turned around.

Bella rolled her eyes.

The wolves began to undress.

What's going on now? Should I look away too? I'm a man, too, but it still seemed strange to me, so I just looked at Bella when there was a bang and four huge wolves stood in front of us.

Angela got on the rusty brown.

I suspected that it was Jacob. Then there was a small sand colored one. Since he was the smallest, it had to be Seth. Next to them were a silver gray and a gray with spots on his back. I couldn't tell which of the two was Paul and which was Embry.

I lifted Bella onto my back and when the wolves ran off, I followed them.

They were fast, especially Jacob, but I could easily keep up with him. I accelerated a little to overtake Jacob. Then he also got faster, and it became a race.

I stopped abruptly because there was a huge blue lake in front of me.

Jacob was just a second behind me and I couldn't help but sneer at him and Bella gave me a kiss.

"You're the best, Emmy," she purred in my ear.

"I know," I said a little arrogantly, but laughed at her.

After the others came, they phased back and put on swimming trunks.

"Revenge!", Jacob shouted.

"Sure, doggie."

Out here in the fresh air, the dog smell didn't seem so strong anymore. I was glad that Alice was right about the weather. It was warm enough for the girls to go swimming without freezing, but the sun was continually hidden by a cloud. Bella supposedly thought the glistening in the sunlight was beautiful. I just thought it was gay. What man wants to glitter like a weird fairy godmother?

As Bella and Angela entered the water - Bella looked perfect in her skimpy black bikini - the four of them came over to me.

They somehow had a somewhat menacing expression.

"So, Emmett," Seth began.

"Don't you dare ever hurt our little sis!" Embry continued.

"Because then you're going to have to deal with us and the rest of the pack," Jake said.

"And against ten wolves, even you don't stand a chance, vampire," Paul threatened.

I assumed he might be right. Ten against one wouldn't be so great.

"I have no intention of hurting her, you watch-doggies. I'm not a jerk like Edward," I defended myself. Well, it was kind of nice to know that Bella had friends like that. "I care about her as much as you do," I said forcefully, looking deep into everyone's eyes to make sure they believed me. I didn't want any stress with them, after all.

"Guys, what are you doing? Stop flirting and get in the water!", Bella shouted.

After the threat, everything was totally relaxed again.

Bella had fun and I thought that the wolves were actually not that bad. After all, they were only humans. Humans who just turned into wolves from time to time to kill some vampires.

In the afternoon, Seth and Embry started a little fight because Seth had a big mouth and really needed to challenge Embry.

I was burning to be able to fight myself. Not because I wanted to kill them, but simply because I hadn't been able to fight a real opponent for too long.

When Bella wasn't being dunked in the water by Paul or making dinner or chatting with Angela or listening to Seth's stories from school, she was with me most of the time, smiling happily.

"You guys are getting along better than I thought. Still no dead," she said as she lay next to me in my arm.

"Are quite all right. They love you like a sister, anyway. How can I hate someone who takes care of you like that, Belly," I said.

"Did you just call her Belly?", Jacob asked.

What was his problem?

"Bella! I used to be the only one who was allowed to call you that," he said somewhat melodramatically.

The sweet warm girl next to me laughed.

"Times are changing, JayJay. You've got Angy," she said, amused.

Bella laughed most of the day.

I knew she was already laughing a lot more in my presence than when she was with Edward. But here with the wolves, you would think she had swallowed some happy pills, but I would smell that in her blood.

My cell phone rang, and I answered it.

"Hi, Alice, wha ..."

"EMMETT! I JUST HAD A VISION!"
