Chapter 35

Kidnapped

Emmett

"EMMETT! I JUST HAD A VISION!", Alice shouted hysterically into her cell phone.

"What is it?"

I didn't like her tone at all. Damn, what had she seen?

"They have Rose! The Volturi! They suddenly decided and did it right away. They already have her!"

"WHAT?"

Fuck ... fuck ... fuck! Even if I didn't love her anymore, I never wanted anything bad to happen to her! Fuck!

"They won't hurt her, not yet. Aro sent Demetri and Alec to us as informers. Caius heard that Edward and Rose were no longer family and he wanted that confirmed. He had Rose kidnapped in hopes of getting Edward in return! You know how much Aro covets Edward's gift!"

"Damn! What are we going to do?", I asked.

Bella and the others looked at me questioningly.

The wolves were on the alert.

"Come home. We don't know what to do. But we have to save them somehow."

I flipped the phone closed.

"The Volturi have kidnapped Rose to get Edward. We have to get back as soon as possible!", I said to her.

"WHAT?"

Bella

Already I was on his back, and we flew through the forest.

I could explain everything to Jake later.

Emmett was even faster than he was earlier in the race with Jake.

My God! How could something like this happen? I never liked Rose and I hated her for cheating on Emmett and hurting him. I also hated Edward for doing such a thing to me. But I would never have wanted something like that!

Emmett ignored the front door and burst right through it into the living room, where the other four were pacing.

Alice sat on the sofa and her gaze was alternately far away and then back here.

"Can we catch up with them before they get to Italy?"

We might have had a chance against Demetri and Alec.

"No, they're already on the plane and I can't reach Edward," Alice said. "I can see him going to Volterra. Sometimes he decides to join Aro to save Rose. Sometimes he decides to get Rosalie out of there somehow else. He thinks of something to fool Aro with somehow. He's at the airport trying to catch a flight in five minutes. That's not enough time to catch up with him," she said, her voice hysterical.

Everyone was walking around the room.

I stood still, almost as motionless as a vampire. My God, what were we going to do?

"There's another problem," Carlisle said suddenly. "If Rosalie, Edward or any of us get in touch with Aro, he will know about Bella, too."

"No human being can know anything about our existence. That's the only rule there is," Jasper said.

And everyone was looking at me.

"If we leave them here, they might send someone from the guards. Demetri or Felix. But if we take her with us, she'll be in danger, too," Jasper thought aloud.

"I want to come with you!", I said.

It was the first time I said anything.

Carlisle nodded.

He probably thought it was best for me to be with them, too.

"What are we standing around here for anyway? Why don't we fly to Italy and kick the Volturis' asses?", Emmett impatiently suggested.

"Emmett, even you should know that we don't stand a chance against the Volturi. Even if we asked the Denalis for help, which we won't," Esmé spoke up.

Her voice sounded sad and hopeless.

Despite Rosalie and Edward's betrayal, they were still her children.

"We'll go there, but not to fight, Emmett. Aro owes me a favor and now I guess I'll have to remind him," Carlisle said determinedly.

Alice's gaze became cloudy again.

"Good, that might work. Now we just have to keep Edward from running amok on his own," Alice said when her gaze returned to us.

Everyone was moving at vampire speed now.

Alice grabbed me by the arm, and I was already in her room. She threw me a pair of pants and a black blouse.

That's when I realized that I had been standing around in my bikini the whole time.

Alice had already changed when I first slipped into my pants and then she packed a backpack with passports and all the necessities.

"I have my passport at home," I said.

"No time."

She threw me a passport and I opened it. There was my photo, my name, but according to this passport I was already twenty-two.

"I had passports made for you three months ago, too, just in case," she explained, and as I finished buttoning my blouse, she dashed back downstairs with me in her arms.

She threw her passes to everyone.

I was too nervous to think about the fact that Alice had me make fake passports and that I would be going through passport control with that in a few hours.

"Alice and Jasper, you take the Porsche. The rest of us will take my Mercedes. I'll call the airport and book us tickets," Carlisle said.

Already I was thrown over Emmett's shoulder and was immediately in the underground parking garage.

I saw Alice Porsche in the rearview mirror. Both cars flew across the asphalt. I didn't dare look at the speedometer.

Charlie came to my mind.

I couldn't just disappear to Italy without him knowing anything.

"Emmett, can I have your phone for a minute?"

He gave it to me, and I dialed Jake's number.

"BELLA? What happened?", he shouted with relief when he heard me.

"A little emergency. We all have to go to Italy and sort out one thing. Please, tell my dad. I can't call him right now. He would go crazy."

"Um ... okay, Bella. Can we help?", he asked in the pack plural.

"No, not this time. Thanks. Bye, Jake."

I handed the phone back to Emmett and snuggled into his arm.

Up until now, I was too shocked and stressed to really comprehend everything. But now the panic and fear were slowly seeping through, and I wished Jasper was here to calm me down.

Tears of fear, anger and despair flowed silently down my cheeks and Emmett kissed them away.

We finally sat on the plane and waited for it to take off. It took forever and I was totally jittery.

Jasper tried to reach Edward on the phone every ten minutes. Unsuccessfully.

"Carlisle, why does Aro actually owe you a favor?", Emmett asked.

I had assumed that I was the only one who didn't know. But apparently the rest of the family didn't know either.

"I saved the lives of Sulpicia, Aro's wife, and Athenodora, Caius' wife, when the Romanian vampires rebelled against Volterra after the Volturi had, so to speak, pushed them off their throne."

Wow ... I didn't even know that Caius and Aro had consorts. There was so much that was spinning and rotating in my head. I wanted to ask so many more questions, but my eyelids were getting tired. I felt an absolute inner peace that must have come from Jasper and slowly fell asleep.
