Chapter 40
Preparations
Emmett
The four weeks that Bella was grounded went by faster than I thought.
She had told me about Leah's tantrum after the motorcycle ride. And that the wolves only turned when vampires were around. Carlisle found this new fact incredibly exciting.
Bella still wanted to spend a lot of time with the pack, assuming that the wolves would hate her after she turned. So she was always in La Push or the surrounding area the last few weekends. After all, house arrest didn't apply when it came to Bella's old childhood friends from La Push. Charlie was only too happy to let her out of the house if it meant Bella was going to La Push.
I also came along sometimes and got to know the boys better. Last time we went cliff diving, there wasn't a single comment about my vampire smell. And I noticed myself how little I cared about the dog smell now. I'd also been on a motorcycle ride once and - damn - did Bella look hot doing it. I really never expected that there was a sport that Bella could do without putting herself and everyone else around her in mortal danger. But there she was on the bike, going full throttle, without the slightest swerve or slip.
So sexy!
Neither Sam nor Leah were ever there when I was in La Push with Bella either. They obviously didn't like me at all. Which would make the transformation thing more difficult. Because no matter how well I got along with Jacob and the others by now, we needed Sam's consent to not break the contract.
Of course, Bella wanted to wait with the news until she had really finished school.
Anyway, the four weeks flew by, and it was already Saturday.
Today her house arrest was finally lifted, plus tonight was Alice party.
Alice had already turned the whole house into a posh disco and was now at Bella's house getting Bella and Angela ready for the party.
I was on my way to Port Angeles with Jasper, carrying our fake IDs that clearly proved we were both over twenty-one, which was actually really true.
We had to go buy alcohol and if we had done that in Forks, we would have gotten a thousand worried calls from parents whose kids were at the party where alcohol was being served. We really didn't feel like doing that. We bought some sweet alcopops for the girls and beer for the men. For us, we bought three liters of whiskey.
Actually, it wasn't for us, but primarily for the three moose we had caught in the forest. We were going to fill the three elk each with a liter of whiskey and then drink their blood. One for each - for Alice, Jasper and me.
If it had been up to me, I would have preferred bears. But according to Jasper, it would be hard enough to get a liter of alcohol into a moose - and a bear could put up much more of a fight.
When we got to the checkout, the saleswoman looked at us in disbelief.
"Looks like a nice party," she said with a smile as she looked at Jasper and me.
We both laughed broadly at her.
Our appearance silenced her for a moment.
Sometimes I really wish I had Edward's gift, just to know with whom of the two of us and what she had just imagined. But suddenly I could feel exactly what she was imagining, or at least her emotions about it. I looked to Jasper and knew he was just sending the emotions he felt from her to me.
She shook her head and continued to collect. She didn't even ask for our IDs.
Once we were back in the car, we drove back to Forks laughing.
"I bet she was thinking about me," Jasper said.
"Dream on, Whitlock! She couldn't keep her eyes off me."
So we continued to discuss all the way back to our house. In the end, we agreed that we were both in her mind at the same time.
We brought in the drinks and the beer and put them on the snack bar.
We had not bought too much. Of course, we didn't want the kids to get too drunk and throw up all over the place. Just enough so everyone would have fun.
We took the whiskey backwards into the woods, where the three elk stood still behind our homemade fence. It took about an hour for the alcohol to be in their blood. So we could already start soaking them. We poured the alcohol into three buckets and let the animals drink. It went easier than I thought.
When we were done, we went back to the house and just then Alice drove up in her yellow Porsche.
When Bella got out, even I was almost speechless. She looked just perfect in the tight-fitting dress that went halfway up her thighs. She wore black pumps that made her legs look even longer. She had her hair down and was discreetly made up.
I couldn't help it and flew towards her at vampire speed and hugged her to me.
She blushed and lowered her head.
"Alice has gone completely over the top again," she said.
My God, why didn't she know how hot she looked?
"Bella! You really are the most beautiful woman I've ever seen. Please stop saying that dress doesn't look good on you."
I kissed her.
When I let go of her, I went to Angela, who was standing with Alice, and hugged her.
I just liked Angela. She had become such a good friend to Bella.
"Uh ... Honey, you look cute as a button too!", I said with a British English accent and with a campy hand gesture.
The others almost fell to the ground, they were laughing so hard.
Slowly, the first human guests began to arrive.
And, of course, everyone was excited about our house, which looked like you'd landed in a club in Hollywood.
When the wolves came, they all looked a little intimidated. After all, they were all as tall and wide as me.
Jake, Embry, Quil, Paul, Kim and Jared joined us.
After Jacob greeted us briefly, he spotted Angela and had the same look on his face as I had when I saw Bella.
The other guys and Jared's girlfriend Kim came over to greet us and thank us for inviting them.
We introduced them to Alice and Jasper.
Alice was a little annoyed that she couldn't see anything now, but it was fine with me. Since Bella was playing with the dogs, I waved Alice and Jasper out into the garden.
"We have a little surprise for you, dearest," Jasper said to her, and we went to the moose.
From the looks of it, the alcohol had entered the bloodstream, because the moose were lying on the ground and their heads were slowly staggering back and forth. I almost felt sorry for them.
"One for each of us," I said, pleased that Alice really didn't see this coming because of the wolves so close to the house.
Back in the house, we noticed how the freshly drunk blood spread throughout our bodies.
I got a drink for Bella and saw that many at the 'bar' had already grabbed it.
That's going to be fun.
