Chapter 13: Lingering Chaos
Terios paced back and forth, his frustration palpable in Naminé's room. His red eye glowed with anger, casting an eerie shadow on the walls.
"Shadow should have dealt with Sonic!" he snarled, his voice echoing in the confined space.
Naminé sat in her chair and watched him with a mixture of concern and caution.
"Terios, please calm down," she said softly, trying to soothe his agitation. "Their rivalry and mutual respect outshone the deception. But you must remember, Sonic's experience outshone that version of the Ultimate Lifeform."
Terios clenched his fists, his anger barely contained.
"I can't let Sonic get to you, Naminé. I won't let him take you, just like those agents did!" His voice trembled with a mix of rage and fear.
Naminé, knowing the falsehoods in his beliefs, played along to keep him calm.
"Sonic is not like that," she said gently. "But he is headstrong. He wants to find his friends and remember his memories of Sora."
Terios grumbled, his frustration evident as he opened a corridor of darkness.
"Terios, where are you going?" Naminé asked, her voice laced with concern.
"I thought Shadow could deal with Sonic, but now it looks like I need to drag in another, powerful enemy from Sonic's past," Terios replied, his tone determined.
Naminé's eyes widened in realization.
"Do you mean...?" she questioned
Terios nodded, his gaze intense as he replied.
"Yes. Naminé, manipulate the monster's mind and empower it with the darkness. This should stop Sonic once and for all."
"But that creature is dangerous, Terios. It's practically a God!" Naminé warned, her voice laced with caution.
Terios shot her a look that mixed desperation and expectation.
"Please," he said, his voice softer but still urgent.
Naminé sighed, feeling the weight of the decision. "Okay," she agreed reluctantly.
Terios nodded, a grim satisfaction on his face.
"Good. I'll bring the monster to White Space. Be ready."
As Terios disappeared into the corridor of darkness, Naminé sat there, feeling her hands shake. She knew Terios was going too far now. But those false memories of their time together were manipulating his thoughts, his judgment, and his actions.
Naminé looked down at her trembling hands, the weight of her role pressing heavily on her. She had seen Terios's descent into madness, driven by the twisted memories that clouded his mind. He believed he was protecting her, but in truth, he was only pushing himself further into darkness.
"Those memories..." she muttered, "Why, why did he have to be subject to them."
She reached down to her sketchbook, which was leaning against her chair. She began to flip through the pages and came to a particular drawing, staring at it intently. Her mind raced back to why she drew them, being forced by the Doctor and the Organization's plan to manipulate the hedgehog. But the memories she created took a dark turn, spiraling into deceit and chaos.
She sighed as she continued to stare at the page, revealing a drawing of Terios and her together in what seemed to be a peaceful moment. They were sitting under a tree, the sun setting behind them, casting a warm glow over the scene. The expressions on their faces were serene and content, a stark contrast to the turmoil that now plagued their lives.
"Oh, Terios..." she remarked, her voice trembling as she recounted this fabricated memory. The lies weighed heavily on her, but she knew it wasn't her fault. She was a pawn in a much larger game, used by the Organization to manipulate and control.
TERIOS MEMORY
Naminé and Terios sat under a sprawling tree, the golden hues of the setting sun casting long shadows. The world around them seemed at peace. Terios, with his arms crossed and both eyes vigilant, sat beside Naminé, his presence a silent promise of protection.
"Do you ever wonder why the researchers created you?" Naminé asked, her voice soft and contemplative.
Terios's gaze remained fixed on the horizon.
"The Lumari people needed someone strong, someone who could defend the light of this world from any threat. That's why they brought me to life, to protect them... and you."
Naminé nodded, her fingers idly tracing patterns in the grass.
"The researchers spoke of a great darkness, a force that could consume everything if left unchecked."
"Yes," Terios replied, his voice steady. "They believe I can be this world's Ultimate Lifeform, created to ensure the safety of the Lumarian race and their light. My mission is clear: protect this world and everyone in it."
Naminé's eyes met Terios's, searching for any hint of the person he might have been before these false memories took hold.
"And you'll always be there, won't you?"
"Always," Terios affirmed, his tone leaving no room for doubt. "No matter what comes our way, I will stand by your side. The Lumari people, the researchers—they trusted me with this task. I won't let them down."
A cryptic silence fell between them, the weight of unspoken truths hanging in the air. Naminé wondered if Terios could ever break free from the lies that bound him, if he could see the reality beyond the fabricated past.
"Remember what they told us," Terios said suddenly, his eyes reflecting the last rays of the sun. "About the light that binds all things, the force that keeps the darkness at bay. It's more than just power—it's our hope, our connection to one another."
Naminé nodded, her mind heavy with the burden of her knowledge.
"Yes, Terios. It's our hope."
As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting the world in twilight, they sat in silence, each lost in their thoughts.
Naminé closed the sketchbook and hugged it to her chest, her mind racing with conflicting emotions. She knew she had to find a way to stop Terios, to break the hold the false memories had on him. But how could she do that without endangering herself or those she cared about?
"I have to stop him," she muttered, her voice barely audible in the stillness of the room.
Naminé took a deep breath, steeling herself for the task ahead. She couldn't let Terios continue down this path of destruction. She needed to find a way to reach him, to show him the truth.
WHITE SPACE
Modern Sonic returned from the Space Colony, with the red Chaos Emerald in hand. He saw his classic counterpart and the two Tails looking at the next hub to be saved nearby. The group heard the footsteps and smiled in relief when they saw Sonic walk towards them, giving them a small wave with his free hand, while the other gripped the Chaos Emerald, its energy pulsing.
"Sonic," Modern Tails called out, giving his friend a wave back.
"Yo, Tails, Tails, and Mini Me!" Modern Sonic replied with a smile.
"I see you beat Shadow!" Classic Tails exclaimed, seeing the red emerald gleam in the hedgehog's gloved hand.
"Sure did, that faker didn't stand a chance with my speed," Sonic teased slightly, as he showed off the emerald to his friends.
Classic Sonic smiled and gave his counterpart a thumbs up at this news.
"So, anyway, with that taken care of, what have you guys found?" Modern Sonic asked, turning his attention to the lifeless hub in front of them.
Modern Sonic gazed at the colorless hub in front of him and saw the outlines of a bustling city. Buildings towered above, their edges blurred and lifeless. The streets were wide, lined with blank, uncolored cars and sidewalks. The iconic bridge of this city stood in the background, its form recognizable but drained of all color and life. The faint echoes of what once were dynamic billboards and neon signs hung in the air, now ghostly and silent.
"Oh, I remember this place well," Modern Sonic said, his voice tinged with nostalgia. "I got arrested by G.U.N and chased down by that huge military truck!"
"You got arrested?" Classic Tails asked in surprise.
Even Classic Sonic looked perplexed, staring in disbelief that he could be arrested by the authorities.
"Yeah," Sonic remarked with a small chuckle. "Strangely enough, the government thought I was Shadow, who was causing chaos all over the place."
"What did he do?" Classic Tails asked.
"Well, from what I can remember, Shadow was released from stasis by Eggman and he stole a Chaos Emerald from the Federal Reserve Bank," Sonic explained.
"Sonic got falsely accused and was taken into custody by G.U.N, but we managed to bust him out!" Modern Tails added, explaining the series of events further.
"G.U.N?" Classic Tails asked, puzzled by the acronym.
The small two-tailed fox turned to Classic Sonic, who looked like he had heard that name before. Classic Sonic tapped his foot and placed his hand on his chin, trying to remember.
"G.U.N stands for Guardian Units of Nations," Modern Tails explained. "They're a military organisation that often gets involved in situations involving Eggman and other major threats."
Classic Sonic snapped his fingers, a look of realization crossing his face. He gestured to Modern Sonic, mimicking a running motion followed by a gesture indicating capture.
"Yeah, exactly!" Modern Sonic laughed. "It was quite the adventure. But now, we need to restore this place."
"And save Rouge, it seems," Modern Tails added, gesturing to the side of the hub. The group's attention shifted to their friend, stuck as a statue nearby.
"Huh, who would think it, Rouge being stolen..." Sonic quipped as he looked closer at the frozen statue of his bat friend.
Rouge appeared stuck in a state of shock, her arm raised and her eyes widened. The normally composed and sly bat seemed caught off guard, her expression a stark contrast to her usual confidence.
"We need to get her out of there," Classic Tails said, concern evident in his voice.
"Right," Modern Sonic agreed, determination in his eyes. "But first, we need to restore the life and color to this hub. Once we do that, we should be able to free Rouge."
Classic Sonic nodded, stepping closer to the hub. He glanced back at his friends, his eyes filled with resolve. He knew that restoring the city and freeing Rouge were crucial steps in their mission to stop Terios and the Organization. However, before they could get to work, a loud roaring cry echoed around White Space, shaking the foundations of the void by the sheer loudness of the noise.
"What the heck was that?" Classic Tails asked, struggling to keep his balance.
Modern Sonic and Tails steadied themselves, feeling the vibrations course through their bodies. Classic Sonic nearly stumbled over, unprepared for the unexpected noise.
"It can't be, can it?" Modern Tails pondered loudly.
"Anything is possible in this place, Tails!" Modern Sonic replied.
"What, what was it?" Classic Tails asked, eager to understand what had caused that loud noise.
Modern Tails looked to Modern Sonic with concern, and Sonic sighed, shaking his head slightly.
"That roar sounded like Perfect Chaos!" the hedgehog affirmed.
"Perfect Chaos?" Classic Tails remarked in confusion.
The fox turned to Classic Sonic, who was looking confused and worry.
Modern Sonic nodded, his expression serious as he began to explain.
"Perfect Chaos is a powerful water-based entity that nearly destroyed Station Square. It's a form of Chaos, the god of destruction, who was unleashed when all the Chaos Emeralds were used incorrectly."
"Chaos has different forms, but Perfect Chaos is its most devastating form," Tails added. "It's incredibly powerful, and if it's here in White Space, that means Terios must have brought it in to stop us."
"Talk about throwing a God sized kitchen sink at us," Modern Sonic remarked, his voice becoming serious.
"Can we stop him?" Classic Tails asked, seemingly worried. "You said all the Chaos Emeralds were used to create this monster?"
The group turned to Modern Sonic, who looked perplexed by the question. However, he gave off a small chuckle and a grin.
"Sonic?" Modern Tails asked with confusion seeing his friends reaction.
"Chaos might have the negative power of the Emeralds, but I think I can take him in my normal form," Sonic affirmed, confidence radiating through his body.
Classic Sonic and Classic Tails exchanged surprised expressions at Modern Sonic's words, while Modern Tails looked worried by Sonic's confidence.
"Sonic, are you sure?" Modern Tails asked, concern evident in his voice.
"When I fought Perfect Chaos way back when, I used the power of the Chaos Emeralds to transform into Super Sonic. But I learned a lot since then. I think I can handle him even without going Super. It's all about strategy and hitting him where it hurts."
"But, what about the water?" Modern Tails cautioned. "When you were in your super form, you could fly across it, remember?"
Hearing the word 'water' made Classic Sonic panic. His smaller counterpart looked visibly distressed at the thought.
"Sonic doesn't like water," Classic Tails affirmed, turning his attention from his panicked friend to Modern Sonic. "Sonic, are you able to swim now?"
Modern Sonic chuckled, shaking his head.
"No, swimming is still not my thing," he admitted. "But I've learned to deal with water hazards better. It's all about timing and finding the right footing. Trust me, I've got this."
Classic Sonic still looked uneasy, but his determination shone through. He stepped forward, giving Modern Sonic a confident nod, signaling his support despite his own fears.
"See, my mini me has confidence in me," Modern Sonic remarked, giving his classic variant a nod back.
"If only we had magic from our friend Merlin right now, or NiGHTS' gliding powers..." Modern Tails said with a sigh.
"Or my Thunder Ring, that would have been super handy. But I have to use my speed, wit, and experience," Modern Sonic replied.
Classic Sonic gave a thumbs up, showing his approval and readiness to face whatever challenges lay ahead. Modern Tails, despite his concerns, couldn't help but feel reassured by Sonic's unwavering confidence.
"I'll need to stay agile and keep my distance when necessary," Modern Sonic continued. "Perfect Chaos is powerful, but he's not invincible. I'll have to look for openings and strike fast."
Modern Tails nodded, formulating his own strategies for Sonic.
"Remember, you can use the environment to your advantage. The city's structures might give you cover and higher ground."
"Perfect," Modern Sonic remarked with a nod. He then turned to his Classic counterpart. "Mini me, fancy going to save Rouge and that hub while I'm taking care of Perfect Chaos?"
Classic Sonic gave a determined nod, his eyes filled with resolve. He was ready to tackle the challenge of restoring the hub and saving Rouge.
"Great! I knew I could count on you," Modern Sonic said with a grin. "Let's split up and get this done."
The roar of Perfect Chaos echoed once again through White Space, a haunting reminder of the God of Destruction he had to confront. Modern Sonic knew he had to find the portal to the destroyed and flooded Station Square to stop Chaos.
"Tails, stay with Mini Me and Mini You," Modern Sonic declared. "I don't have much time to find the hub."
"Right, Sonic," Modern Tails nodded. "Just be careful."
Modern Sonic gave a final nod before dashing off, his mind focused on the upcoming battle. He sped through the void of White Space, searching for the portal that would lead him to Station Square. The echoes of Perfect Chaos's roar grew louder, guiding him towards the source of the disturbance.
As he ran, Modern Sonic couldn't help but reflect on his past encounter with Perfect Chaos. The sheer power and devastation the creature had caused were unforgettable. But this time, Sonic was determined to face it head-on without relying on the Chaos Emeralds.
He spotted the shimmering portal ahead, its entrance flickering with energy. Without hesitation, Sonic leaped through, emerging in the heart of a flooded and ruined Station Square.
Back at the hub to the City, Modern Tails turned his attention to Classic Sonic to prepare him for what he could face.
"Sonic, be careful of G.U.N. bots and the Heartless," Modern Tails warned. "I'm sure Terios will bring them into this trapped event of the past to stop you."
Classic Sonic nodded, determination shining in his eyes. He clenched his fists and took a deep breath, ready to tackle whatever challenges lay ahead.
"Stay alert," Modern Tails continued. "The G.U.N. bots will be relentless, and the Heartless are unpredictable. Use your speed and agility to outmaneuver them. Remember, Rouge is counting on you."
Classic Sonic gave a thumbs-up, signaling his readiness. He turned to Classic Tails, who smiled back at him with encouragement.
"You've got this, Sonic," Classic Tails said. "We'll handle things here and keep the hub secure."
Classic Sonic nodded with a smile to his friend, but Modern Tails had one more warning for the smaller hedgehog.
"Remember, Sonic got chased by a large military vehicle before. I bet that Terios could use this to his advantage," Modern Tails warned, his tone serious and urgent.
Classic Sonic's eyes widened at the thought. The idea of facing a massive, relentless military truck was daunting, even for him. He knew he had to be ready for anything Terios could throw his way.
"From what I recall, this isn't just any truck," Modern Tails continued, emphasizing the threat. "It's massive, fast, and equipped with powerful weapons. It won't stop until it catches you or you take it down. Terios might enhance it even further, making it even more dangerous."
Classic Sonic clenched his fists, determination shining in his eyes. He knew the risks but also understood the importance of his mission. He couldn't afford to fail.
"I believe in you, Sonic," Modern Sonic said, placing a reassuring hand on his smaller counterpart's shoulder. "Just remember, stay fast, stay focused, and use your surroundings. You can do this."
Classic Sonic gave a confident nod, his resolve solidified. With a final thumbs-up to his friends, he turned and dashed towards the shimmering portal of the lifeless hub, ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead and save this future adventure he would be part of one day.
