Welcome back to Elemental Crisis Book II. Last time, our band of heroes revealed the location of one of the missing Elements, and its in none other than Gotham City. Who could have seen that one coming? But as Batwoman made the call to Batwing to get the Batcave ready for guests, he reported to her the sad news of Beth Kane's death. This seems to garner a response from Batwoman, despite not being the Batwoman with a familial connection to Beth. So, what awaits once our team actually arrives in Gotham? Read on to discover...
(Our scene opens with the Waverider flying over Gotham City, passing by a skyscraper marked with the familiar name of Wayne Enterprises. Soon enough the scene transitions to an office, where Spyro, Cynder, and Batwoman are entering the scene)
Spyro: I hate to be presumptuous, but do we really have the time for an office visit?
Cynder: Yeah, don't we need to get to this Batcave of yours, Ryan?
Batwoman: This is the only way into the Batcave. Luke and Mary are already waiting for us down there. The others are getting in via the Batmobile exit. (Spies the correct office, her office to be specific) Here we go.
(Entering the office, Batwoman heads directly towards a row of bookshelves and immediately grabs one item from it, a pyramidal case holding a string of pearls. Batwoman centers the item on the shelf and then twists it counterclockwise, causing the bookcase to open, revealing an elevator. Not questioning any of this, the trio step into the elevator, which can somehow hold all of them, before Batwoman activates it, closing the cage on the elevator and sending them down to a cavern beneath the skyscraper)
Batwoman: (As they exit the elevator) Welcome to the Batcave.
(Soon enough the rest of the League rejoins Batwoman and the dragons, immediately joined by Batwing)
Batwing: Thanks for getting back here so soon.
Batwoman: Good to see you too, Luke. But we need to get on focus. What the heck was Beth doing in Crime Alley?
Batwing: Straight to the point, got it. Well, it appears she was running from someone.
Batwoman: What on earth could scare Alice?
Spyro: I thought her name was Beth?
Batwoman: Alice is an alias she used.
Batwing: Apparently, she was running from, and you're not going to believe this, the Mad Hatter.
Batwoman: I thought Jervis Tetch died years ago!
Batwing: He did. But his hat was among the trophies stolen a while ago. Looks like somebody found it.
Flash: More like somebody gave it to them.
Batwing: (Confused) What do you mean?
Batwoman: Was there a second figure this new Hatter seemed to be taking orders from?
Batwing: If Renee's reports are accurate, yes. But admittedly, I kind of discounted it because it seemed unbelievable. Because it sounded like...
Batwoman: The Joker?
Batwing: Even crazier than that, it looked like Kate.
Cynder: It was kind of both, actually.
Batwing: Come again?
Flash: It's a long story, we'll get you caught up.
Batwoman: But as an intro, it's a version of Kate from an alternate universe, one where she somehow became the Joker. We don't know all the details on that.
Batwing: And to be honest, I don't want to. The multiverse already gives me enough of a headache. But, getting back to the point, Renee's waiting to talk with you. She said she'd shine the Batsignal when she was ready.
Batwoman: Hope she doesn't mind some company. (Gesturing to Spyro and Cynder) Luke Fox, meet Spyro and Cynder. Our guides on this new adventure.
Batwing: Wait, Spyro and Cynder? Like the video game characters?
White Canary: Multiverse thing, but yes.
Batwing: (Rubs his forehead) And there's the headache. Look, I've got just enough time before dusk to catch you all up on the relevant points. So let's get to it.
Batwoman: Then by all means.
(As the group gathers in to get the particulars of the case from Batwing, our tale ends for today)
And that looks like a good place to wrap up for now. So, this chapter was primarily getting us into the Batcave and properly introducing Batwing, aka Luke Fox. We'll be seeing more of his costumed side later on. But, right now, we're waiting on the lighting of the Batsignal to progress the story with Renee Montoya. So what awaits when the signal light shines? Tune in next time to find out! Same time... same channel!
