Welcome back to Elemental Crisis Book II. Last time, Cynder and Batwoman got started on the latter's training to use her newly acquired Element of Shadow. And at least to start, it doesn't seem to be going very well at all. Primarily because Batwoman keeps sinking into her shadow every time she tries to use this power. It seems there's something in her past she's reticent to face, and that's keeping her from mastering the Element. But will she get past it and come through? Read on to hopefully start finding out...
(Our scene picks up just where we left it, with Cynder and Batwoman training in the Element of Shadow. And it seems things have improved a bit since last time we were here. Sure, Batwoman is still sinking into her shadow, but she's able to recognize when it's happening and pull herself back out without breaking concentration)
Cynder: (Noticing this) You're getting better and keeping yourself afloat, Ryan. That's progress.
Batwoman: If you say so. (Sighs) Looks like this won't be as easy as we thought. I'm probably not going to be much help if all I can do with this element is bob like a tide buoy.
Cynder: It's going to take time, just like any skill.
Batwoman: And time is the one thing we don't have.
Cynder: (Sighs) You know, let's just take a break. Maybe if we just clear our heads, we'll be able to figure out what's holding you back and then we'll go from there.
Batwoman: (Rising from her shadow completely) Honestly, not a bad idea.
Cynder: A moment for introspection should clear things up drastically.
(As if to set herself in the mood, Cynder lays down and begins meditating. Batwoman joins her in sitting on the floor, but doesn't start meditating, but instead starts thinking over her life, trying to figure out what's holding her back from mastering the Element she now hosts. And for a moment, she finds the memory again, and even get flashes of it. All we can tell is that it involves her world's Kate Kane, though it keeps getting overlayed with Joker, an alternate Kate Kane. And for a moment, the memory starts to speak. But before we can hear what it has to say, it's interrupted by a knocking on the door frame. In that moment, Cynder and Batwoman both brace for action, only to see it's Spyro)
Cynder: Spyro? Care to explain why you're sneaking around?
Spyro: Not trying to sneak. I was just coming to get you. Luke's got a lead on Joker's third compatriot.
(Not wasting a moment, the trio returns to the main room of the Batcave, where Batwing has Virgil Getty pulled up on the Batcomputer, having evidently identified him as the guy working with Joker)
Batwing: Looks like your mystery man is this guy: Virgil Getty.
Batwoman: What do we know about this guy?
Batwing: Not a lot. He's managed to keep under the radar. Though his connections to Marla Elliot weren't hard to track. At least, not before now.
Cynder: Meaning?
Batwing: Looks like somebody realized Virgil's not working with Marla anymore, and ratted him out. Renee Montoya already sent a squad to his apartment, and inside, several frozen bodies in various states of shattering.
Spyro: That's our guy alright.
Flash: How's he doing this?
Batwoman: He's got one of the missing Bat Trophies.
Batwing: Mister Freeze's liquid nitrogen to be specific. My guess, he's trying to perfect the stuff.
Cynder: And somehow his connections are just being made public now? Something seems fishy about all of this.
Batwoman: My thoughts exactly. But it's the only lead we've got. Looks like we're going to have to act on it.
Batwing: Done. Plugged his last known address into the Batmobile's GPS.
Batwoman: Alright. Cynder, you and I will go check it out. Everybody, be on standby in case something goes wrong. (To Batwing specifically) Luke, please tell me your suit is working.
Batwing: Just got the repairs done while you were out.
Batwoman: Good. I have a feeling we'll need Batwing. Let's move out.
(With that, Batwoman jumps into the Batmobile and takes off as Cynder follows her by wing, ending our tale for today)
And that looks like a good place to wrap up for now. So, our Mister Freeze ripoff has a name now, Virgil Getty. And rather suspiciously, a location. I'm with Cynder and Batwoman on this one, there's no way this can turn out good. But, what awaits at Virgil Getty's only other known location? Tune in next time to find out! Same time... same channel!
