Welcome back to Elemental Crisis Book II. Last time, Joker started by reading her goons the Riot Act, before getting confronted by Malefor, alongside Red Death and Myriad. Joker assured them that her ace in the hole would be just what they need to get the Shadow element back. And sure enough, that's when they decide to call, to let Joker know that somehow, they knew that Batwoman and Cynder were on their way. Joker decided now's the time for all of them to meet up, just as Batwoman and Cynder arrived outside. Today, I can reveal this, we will learn who Joker's spy on the inside is. So let's not waste another moment. Here we go!

(Our scene opens up on a hallway in and apartment complex, outside a room marked 527, and soon Batwoman and Cynder appear in the hallway)

Cynder: This is the room?

Batwoman: (Checks her data) Yep, Number 527. This is Virgil Getty's last known location.

Cynder: Then we can't waste a minute. Let's get in there.

Batwoman: Agreed.

(Not wanting to waste a second, Batwoman attempts the door handle, thinking it'll be in vain, but then to her surprise, the door is unlocked. Shooting a glance of surprise and mild concern to Cynder, the two still press on, slowly opening the door into the room, revealing the very same space from last time, the room Joker and her goons were just in. And it's clear they were just here, but seem to have abandoned the place)

Cynder: (Looking around the room) Looks like we missed them.

(And just as Cynder says that, something can be heard clanging against the floor offscreen, sending both Cynder and Batwoman into a defensive state.)

Batwoman: You just had to jinx it.

Cynder: Now I know how Sparx feels.

(The sound of something, or someone, moving through the apartment gets louder, and just as the tension hits a fever pitch, Killer Croc jumps out of a doorway. This time though, the two heroines are expecting Croc's pattern and get out of the way while Batwoman roundhouse kicks him in the back, sending Croc into the wall by the door, literally getting his head stuck in the wall)

Batwoman: Fool me once, and all that.

Cynder: Something tells me that wall isn't going to hold it forever.

Virgil Getty: Exactly where I come in.

(Turning to the sound of the voice, Cynder and Batwoman immediately see Virgil Getty aiming the stolen liquid nitrogen at them, but just as he sprays the freezing mist, the two tuck and roll out of the way, causing Virgil Getty to hit Killer Croc, freezing him solid.)

Virgil Getty: Damn it!

Batwoman: What, you've only got one shot?

Cynder: (Moving to attack Virgil Getty) Thankfully, I don't need my elements to rip you to pieces.

Mad Hatter: Except you won't.

(And now the two heroines see that Mad Hatter is also in the room, his hat already activated. Cynder, falling victim to the hat's strange effects, stops moving where she stands, despite all her attempts to continue moving to attack Virgil Getty. Batwoman thankfully is not being targeted, but realizes Cynder is a sitting duck, just as Joker appears from a back room)

Joker: Excellent timing, Hatter. (Pulls out her tommy gun) I'll take it from here.

(Just as Joker starts shooting, Batwoman leaps into the fray, knocking Cynder to the ground and out of the way of the bullets, only allowing them to hit Killer Croc, literally shattering him in his frozen state, his head still stuck in the wall.)

Batwoman: (As she helps Cynder to her feet) Looks like you just took out some of your own help.

Joker: (Seeing someone enter behind Batwoman and Cynder: I'd say 4 to 2 is still pretty good.

Cynder: I think entering this universe fried your brain, there's only three of you.

Joker: You might want to turn around, if you don't believe me?

(Not sure about taking the clown at her word, the two hesitate for a moment but Cynder turns around first, only to be smacked in the face with a flower pot, falling to the ground unconscious.)

Batwoman: Cynder!

(In this moment, Batwoman turns around and sees who just attacked Cynder, and much to her surprise, finds Renee Montoya standing there holding the flower pot)

Batwoman: Detective Montoya?

Joker: Excellent timing, Renee. Now, Virgil, if you would?

(Taking advantage of Batwoman's surprise, Virgil Getty fires another blast of liquid nitrogen at the Caped Crusader, freezing her but not as solid as he did Killer Croc earlier)

Joker: Excellent work everybody. Lord Malefor will be pleased with this development. Sure we lost Croc, but you can't make an omelet without breaking a few eggs. (To Renee Montoya) Renee, your timing couldn't have been more perfect.

Renee Montoya: Save the flattery, clown. Don't forget what you owe me.

Joker: Of course not, but first, help us get these two out of here so we can extract what they stole from us.

(And as Batwoman and Cynder, frozen and out cold respectively are moved, our scene ends for today)

And that looks like a good spot to end for now. From this moment, I don't anticipate the story lasting much longer. I can't give an exact number of chapters remaining at this moment, but in a few weeks I should be able to. Anyways, back to the summary. So Detective Renee Montoya was Joker's mole! But... why? I'll give a hint, somebody guessed at her motive pretty early on. Now, what awaits the Caped Crusader and the Terror of the Skies now that they're in Joker's custody? Tune in next time to find out! Same time... same channel!
