Light sighed, putting his arm through hers. She giggled.

Yet another tiresome date with a girl. All he could think about was that detective, L. What other surprises did he have in store?

If you'd asked L whether or not he was religious, he would've said no, flatly. In his eyes, there was only one truth - humans who were bad, and humans who brought them to justice.

Clearly, somehow, a pair of humans had gotten access to godlike powers. Lives were being toyed with.

They're just humans, in the end, L reminded himself. They will fall.

He stared at the small group of investigators. There were no more than 6 of them. L had taken the liberty to meet them in person. After all, they had to know they could trust each other.

He eyed the captain of the police team, Soichiro Yagami. The older man was sitting there, his brows knitted together. The others looked just as tired, even the spunky Matsuda; none of them were getting any sleep.

L cleared his throat. "I have an announcement."

The members of the task force all stared at him.

"There will be a new member joining us," L declared.

"One of the FBI agents?" one of the task force members asked.

"Sort of," L adjusted his seat. "She's technically not a member anymore, but she's still just as knowledgeable as any of us."

With that, a young American walked into the room. She had mid-length dark hair, and intense brown eyes. She wore a long black coat.

Matsuda felt his cheeks burning. Wow, she's pretty!

"This is Naomi Misora," L told the group, "also known as Shoko Maki. Her fiancee was one of the FBI agents that came over to investigate Kira. As you all know… he was a victim of both Kira and the Anti-Kira."

"He hasn't been taking it very well," Naomi jumped in. "That's why I'm here instead."

The other members nodded, getting out their introductions.

"You're Soichiro Yagami, sir?" Naomi asked Soichiro. "It's an honour to meet you."

"Indeed I am," Soichiro shook her hand.

"It will be a pleasure to work with you," Naomi told him. "Tell me… who do you suspect may be Kira and/or the Anti Kira?"

Soichiro scowled. "In all honesty… I'm not sure. L would have a better guess."

L sipped his tea. He eyes Naomi.

"Your fiancée had the right idea," he told her, "following those Yagami children."

Soichiro went pale. "Hold on, my children were being followed?!"

"Mainly your son, but yes," Naomi jumped in.

"Don't tell me you suspect my children!" Soichiro snapped. "Especially not Sayu… Light is a talented academic genius, but my daughter? She's just a middle schooler!"

"When it comes to the powers of Kira, no one is off the table," L replied.

"Did you not hear me, L?" Soichiro asked. He groaned. "I understand that you are a brilliant detective. But… there is no way my daughter could be involved in any of this. She's simply not capable."

L took a deep breath. The other members stared at each other.

"Chief Yagami," L addressed the chief, "I understand that this is difficult. But… think about it. How well do you really know either your son or your daughter? You're not at home very often."

"How dare you," Soichiro uttered. "This is my family you are discussing."

He was trembling.

"I only say what I do to find out the identities of Kira and Anti-Kira," L replied. "It's not likely that the powers of Kira come from an actual middle schooler. But it's also not impossible, either. We can't wipe anyone of suspicion, no matter how nonsensical it seems."

"If you don't mind me speaking up," Naomi jumped in, "he has a point. Your children could have access to police information, after all."

"Yeah," Matsuda added, "I mean, I'm not saying your kids are Kira! It's just… there is a chance."

Soichiro furrowed his brow. He stared at the curtain, his hand still shaking.

"... fine," he lamented. "If you really suspect that my children may be Kira and the Anti-Kira…"

"Then we'll need a way to watch them…" L mused.

Naomi Misora's world had been shattered.

For starters, Kira. For seconds, Anti-Kira. For thirds, her fiancé, Raye Penber, was dead. Or at least, he had been dead for a few hours.

Now he was alive, sitting on the couch. His eyes were bleary, but he was well and truly living. A blanket covered his slumped form, a coffee mug in his hand.

Naomi sat beside him, holding his free hand.

"What was it like?" she asked, quietly. "Being dead?"

Raye shrugged. "Honestly, I barely even remember."

He was undeniably Raye Penber, despite the thousand yard stare. Naomi held his shoulder.

"Do you think Kira or Anti-Kira could be those Yagami siblings you were following?" she asked.

Raye furrowed his brow. "I'm not sure. Neither of them were doing anything suspicious."

"How did you die?" Naomi asked. "Remind me."

Raye massaged his brow. "I was on the train, or something… and then everything went blank. My memory is still pretty foggy."

Naomi sighed. Well, it wasn't like people came back from the dead everyday.

"Stay here and rest up," she put a pillow behind his head. "I'll go and get some dinner."

"Wait," Raye grabbed her arm, "it's dangerous out there!"

Naomi chuckled. "Well, if I die… the Anti-Kira will just revive me, right?"

Raye swallowed. "Don't talk like that, Naomi. They've already got to me. If they find out about you…!"

".. I'll just have to take that chance," Naomi breathed.

How could she possibly sit around when 2 monsters were playing with people's lives? Especially the life of her own fiancee. She was going to make both of the Kiras pay.

L. The detective that had befuddled him, the only thing on his mind other than the Anti-Kira. Perhaps the detective could be the key to figuring out the Anti-Kira's identity. Perhaps… L was the Anti-Kira. That was Light's next belief… supposedly.

"What makes you think L is the Anti-Kira?" Ryuk asked Light, chewing an apple.

Light smirked. "Think about it, Ryuk. Who else would stand in my way like this?"

Ryuk stared at the human. Something told him there was more to this plan than met the eye.

Light stood up. "Come on. We're going on a trip."

And thus, Light arrived at the police station. The police station, where his father had been spending most of his time. Ryuk was shivering.

"What is it?" Light asked him.

"Another one," Ryuk groaned.

"Don't tell me…" Light muttered.

Yep, looked like he had another stalker. A woman this time - she, too, was American. He was not naive enough to kill her, not yet at least - he wanted to toy with the Anti-Kira a little further.

He headed into the police station, handing in some clothes for his father, and gathering some information. His new stalker followed him inside. To his surprise, she walked right beside him, not even making eye contact.

Light watched her from the corner of his eye. What game is she playing at?

The woman eyed him, before walking away.

Hmm… Light watched her movements. Yep, she was definitely involved in this. If he could learn her name… then that was all he needed. He was just one step closer.

Light smirked. All was going according to plan.

A/N: IMO the scene where Light kills Naomi is absolutely one of the best scenes in the series. The tension, the manipulation… my god. That's the scene where I truly realised Light was the villain.
