Chapter Eleven - Apocalypse

JJ shot at the policeman's hand. With the way Will had been acting this week, there's no way she'd let someone else have the pleasure of killing him.

The bullet found its target, as the policeman dropped his gun, blood erupting from his hand. As he shouted out in pain, JJ, Will and Derek looked around.

"No point going for the stairwell," said Derek. "They'll be swarming all over them."

Will ran to the window, pulling it down. He looked up at the tear gas streaming from the room above them, filling the sky. He just hoped it would be enough to cover their exit. It was then that he spotted more cops coming through the trapdoor.

Will leapt out of the window, onto the fire escape, with JJ and Derek in hot pursuit, followed by the cops. On the fire escape below them were yet more cops, armed to the teeth.

"Sorry about your paint job," said Will, turning to Derek.

Derek looked at Will confused. Will just gave a laconic smile, winked at JJ, and then threw himself off the fire escape, plummeting past the police, and bouncing off the bonnet of the car parked below. Will was flung to the ground, and as he got up and dusted himself off, he turned around to see Derek and JJ following his trajectory, bouncing off the car's bonnet.

"Looks like we fared better than the car," said Will, looking over at it. "Don't think it's survived our falls."

"That's okay," said Derek, "it's not my car," and, under a hail of gunfire from above, he ran along the wall, leading the others to his car parked round the corner.

"You okay, JJ?" asked Will.

"Yeah, it's been a long week," said JJ. "Just want it to end."

Penelope Garcia had been researching, and had found out everything Will could have told her, and so much more.

She took out her phone and dialled the number at the very top.

"Derek, I've got a lead for you. The fake Larry was called Art Lavigne. You might want to check out his brother John... Of course I've got an address."

Derek Morgan had switched his cellphone back on; there was no point in not being tracked when he already had three cop cars and a police helicopter pursuing him. The second he'd switched it on, he'd received the call from Penelope.

"Thanks, Baby Doll, on our way there."

"Where are you heading?" asked Will.

"The bad guy's got a brother."

"I know," said Will, the young kid's crying face forever etched on his memory, but this was no time for feeling sorry, that would come later, if he survived this afternoon. "What's the address? I know these streets like the back of my hand. I could drive there with my eyes shut."

Derek yelled the address, and Will told him to divert down an alley. It was a shortcut, and it might lose the cop cars.

Derek pulled hard on the steering wheel, skidding into the alleyway.

The cops weren't as skilled as Derek, and the car immediately behind him smashed into the alley wall, blocking the alley.

"Good driving, Derek," said JJ.

And so, their journey continued, with Will yelling at Derek, driving them to their destination as quickly as possible, through a mixture of back alleys and dead end streets, ignoring any red lights that got in their way.

Finally, they pulled up, and leapt out, ignoring the police helicopter above, hailing them to surrender.

"I really hope he's in," said JJ, as Will kicked the door down, and they headed inside.

"So, you're here," said a man, sitting by a computer screen. "Ruining my life once again."

"Your insane plan's over," said Will, recognising the man's eyes, remembering when he'd first seen them. "Just surrender and life can return to normal."

"Life can never be normal," said the man, John Lavigne. "Still, if you want it all to end…" He clicked a button on his computer screen and started laughing.

"Out of here, now!" yelled Will, remembering Sally's stomach exploding before him. The three of them got out just as the building exploded behind them.

As sirens blared around them, Derek got off the phone to Garcia.

"Seems like Emily's gotten in touch with the New Orleans police, and explained your innocence. Looks like that wraps up everything," he said, but JJ wasn't listening and neither was Will, as he held his wife in his arms.
