Dean
I was angry. I wished that they wouldn't have kept these secrets from me, but deep down I understood why they did. I understood how hunters would react to them having supernatural abilities. I could tell that I had hurt Alyra the most with my words. I didn't know much about her past, but I knew I'd hurt her. Sam was sitting on the bed after Alyra had walked outside. I knew I had hurt Alyra somehow. I saw the hurt on her face just before she walked outside. I felt terrible that I had hurt her.
"So what are you going to do Dean? Are you going to kill us? Alyra has known about this much longer than I have. If she knows why we are the way we are then maybe we need to trust her. She knew about how I got my visions before I did. She may be something partly supernatural now, but she's not evil. She has done so much for us. For the people in this world she has never asked for anything in return. She has always been there for me, for us. I know you will keep an eye on us, but we need to trust her or she'll just disappear. We need her." I thought about what Sam said.
He was right of course. She had always been there for us. If she knew why Sammy had visions and why whatever it was, gave them to him, then maybe she knew why Mom and Jess died the way they did. I moved to the door and opened it just as a bike started up. I rushed out. Alyra was sitting on her bike with her helmet on. She had her head hanging and was fiddling with a piece of paper in her hands.
"Alyra?" Her head snapped up towards me.
I couldn't see her face, but I saw her body tense up. I walked up right next to her bike. She was now looking up at me, except I still couldn't see her eyes. Her face was tilted up at me.
"I'm leaving if that's what you came out to say." I hated not being able to see her face.
I reached forward slowly and unbuckled her helmet. I heard her gasp under the helmet. I took her helmet off. When I saw her face, I felt bad. Her eyes were red and her face was puffy. She had been crying.
"What do you want Dean?" She looked away from me.
I set her helmet on the back of her bike. I pulled her into a hug. She kept her hands down at her sides. She took a deep breath.
"Just spit it out Dean. Tell me to leave. I would understand. I'm not human. I'm a supernatural freak and now you want nothing to do with me so I'll leave and never bug you again." She tried to pull away.
"I want you to stay. I don't want you to leave Alyra. I want you to stay with us. You clearly know more about what's going on in our lives. So please stay. Sammy says that you know more about what is going on. So please stay and tell us what you know. Please Alyra." She was looking up at me.
She was confused.
"I thought for sure you'd make me leave. What made you change your mind?" She bit her lip.
"Sam." She frowned.
"Okay." She turned off the bike.
I pulled away. She bit her lip and looked away. I thought she would be happy if I told her Sam was the reason I wanted her to stay.
"Very well. I'll be in shortly, Dean. Go back to Sam. I need a minute." Her voice sounded like she was going to cry.
"Alyra?" Her body tensed.
She turned and looked at me.
"What? I'm staying. What more do you want that you can't give me a few minutes to myself?" She crossed her arms over her chest.
"Just make sure you come in when you're done." I walked back to the room, slamming the door behind me.
Alyra
After Dean slammed the door I felt a little bad, but at the same time I was hurt. He acted as though he didn't have a say in the decision about me staying. Like he didn't want me to stay. I took a few moments and got off my bike.
You can do this. Just tell them what you know. Just not everything. They can't know anything about Castiel yet, it's not safe.
I entered the hotel room and Sam smiled at me. Dean just watched me as I sat down.
"I'll tell you everything I know. It's not much, but it gives me a starting point." I waited to speak again.
Sam smiled at me again, and Dean just crossed his arms. I sighed. He was going to drive me crazy.
"So I received my abilities when I was born. Sam received his the night your mother died," Sam looked upset, "I don't know what gave me my powers. I've met it, but it would only tell me why I received my powers. It also told me what gave Sam his powers, in turn the type of supernatural being that killed your mother."
Dean stood up and was pointing his gun at my face.
"You better talk before I decide to put a bullet in your head." I glared at him and pressed my forehead against the barrel.
"Go ahead. Do it. Do it and you will never know what killed your mother. I'm hurt that you're holding this gun to my head, Dean. I've done nothing wrong in my life besides being born in my mothers eyes. So go ahead. Pull the trigger." I was angry.
Hurting and angry, not suicidal, but I'd let Dean get whatever he was feeling out. He turned off the safety. I froze.
What? Was he really going to shoot me?
I closed my eyes. I felt a pressure in my chest.
Did I mean so little to him that he would shoot me without a second thought?
"Enough!" Sam yelled.
My eyes opened and I knocked the gun out of Deans hand a lot harder than I meant to.
"You think so little of me that just because I have abilities I would let you kill me? I'm here to help you Dean. That's all I have ever done for your family. So sit down, shut up, & listen to the rest of what I have to say before I make you." Dean looked surprised.
He listened and sat down rubbing his now red wrist. I felt bad.
"Are you okay, Alyra?" I smiled at Sam.
"I'm okay," I took a deep breath, "as I was saying, the thing that gave me these abilities saw a vision. In that vision was a war with human warriors. They had been given abilities by a demon. So this thing that gave me abilities went through nine babies to try to create humans to fight these human warriors that had demon blood flowing through their veins. All nine of those babies died, I survived. Sam, Dean, the monster that killed your mother was a demon." Sam looked sick and Dean looked lost.
That made sense though. They had lived all their lives trying to find the monster that killed their mother. Now they had an answer. A step in the right direction. We still had a lot of work to do. We had to find the demon who actually did it.
"How do you know it didn't lie to you? This thing that gave you these abilities." Dean's voice was filled with disgust.
"It was the morning of my 22nd birthday," Sam gasped, "I woke up with bruises on my neck. I had a dream and Sam was there. As was the thing that gave me these abilities. Sam's eyes were black and he attacked me. I woke him up by talking to him. It worked. I appealed to who I knew Sam really was. Then his eyes turned back to normal. He called me after he had woken up. I told him I was okay. I didn't want you to worry Sam. I was trying to keep you out of this life. I didn't like keeping it from you, but you had put so much effort into getting out of this life. I wanted to respect your choice by keeping you and Jess safe. I failed to keep both of you safe. I'm so sorry." I closed my eyes and let my head fall into my hands.
Jess was gone and it's all my fault. It felt really hard to breathe. I hadn't felt like this since trying to meet Bobby. I was in a room with people I cared about, but I felt alone. My eyes began to burn and then I felt a pair of arms around me. I began sobbing.
"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry." I cried into their chest.
Dean
I wanted to be cold to her, but I couldn't. Now after she apologized for the first time. I couldn't watch her blame herself. I hugged her. I couldn't just stand and watch her cry alone in the chair, just like I couldn't that day she arrived at Bobby's house. She apologized again against my chest.
"It's not your fault. It's no one's fault. You tried. That's all that matters. You have no one to blame, except the demon who killed her." She wrapped her arms around my torso.
I looked up at Sam. He was staring at Alyra. He looked to be in pain. Alyra's sobs quickly vanished into sniffles. She pulled away from me.
"We can't just sit here. We need to find the thing that killed her." She looked so sad.
She looked up at me. She still looked like she had been crying, but I saw the resolve in her eyes.
"Very well then. We go and follow where Dad wanted us to go next. You'll follow behind on the bike." I pulled away and began packing up.
Alyra hugged Sam and left the room.
