I do not own Teen Titans
Read and Review
Something was tickling Raven's nose. It was soft, brushing gently against the tip and sides of her nose. She scrunched up her nose trying to get away from the offending object.
'I swear to Azar, if Beast Boy snuck into my room in cat form while I was asleep again I will toss him into another dimension and leave him there.'
Several weeks ago the green changeling had snuck into her room because he had heard her having a nightmare. Wanting to help, he had curled up next to her in the form of a kitten. In true Gar fashion, he had accidentally fallen asleep, leaving Raven to find him there when she woke up. Gar had then been promptly thrown out of her bedroom window, taken a swim in the bay, and then proceeded to spend the next few hours being lectured by Nightwing, Cyborg, and Starfire, and glared at by Raven.
Whatever was brushing her nose moved and tickled her nose again, causing her to sneeze. Immediately her head began to pound. Well, pound was the wrong word. It felt as though someone was using claws to try and rip her skull in half.
She groaned.
'Azar kill me now...' She prayed. She lay there for a moment, waiting for the migraine to go away. It did not, if anything it got worse. The throbbing continued to ripple through her head and began to extend throughout the rest of her body.
Another brush up against her nose, making her sneeze again.
It felt like her brain was a ping-pong ball inside of her skull. Her neck ached and there was a slight ringing in her ears.
'That's it. That little green creatin is going to Hell.'
She opened her eyes fully prepared to toss Gar's ass out of a window and found herself nose to nose with the wrong pair of green eyes. Red hair dangled over her face brushing Raven's cheeks and nose.
"Starfire?" She croaked, confused. Her throat felt as though she had recently swallowed lava. Her mouth was dry and her tongue felt three times its normal size.
Starfire was hovering over her, worry written all over her face.
"Friend Raven! You are awake. Thank X'hal." Starfire looked relieved. She backed away a little giving Raven a better look at her.
She was pale, her vibrant orange skin dull and almost gray. She had dark circles under her eyes and her hair looked dirty and limp. She was covered in dirt and tear streaks stained her face. She swayed slightly as if she was too tired to stand. Light flickered across her friend's features giving the young Tamerianian a haunted appearance.
Raven took another moment to observe their surroundings.
It was dark and cold, and she could just barely hear the distant plink of water dripping somewhere. Walls made of rock loomed over them, reaching up to create a ceiling made of rock as well. Raven guessed that they were in a cave or underground cavern.
They were currently in a small cage, iron bars entrapping them on three sides. On the fourth side was a wall of solid rock. Above them, more iron bars created a ceiling that was barely six feet above them. The cage itself was tiny, with hardly enough room for both of the young women it held.
Inside the cage was a wooden bucket that was emitting a horrible smell, giving Raven a hint as to its intended purpose. The only other item inside of the cage itself was a small, shaky, twin-sized cot that Raven was currently lying on.
Outside of their little cell was a large hook embedded into the wall and hanging from it was a set of chains. Raven felt a small magical aura coming off of the chains and realized that they were probably intended for her. Another set of chains dangled from a second hook that was next to the first one. These chains were heavier and thicker than the first set, complete with full hand locks on the ends. They were eerily similar to the chains that she and the other Titans had found Starfire in when she had first come to Earth. Raven's heart sank knowing who those chains were intended to restrain.
A guard stood outside of their cage. He was clad in all black and had a sword strapped to his side. Further away there was another guard clad in the same black uniform. Just above the second guard was a small torch that gave off just enough light to see, but was too far away for the girls to be able to feel its warmth.
Raven went to sit up, but Starfire rushed back to her side.
"No Raven! You must not move, you need to lie down and rest." Placing both hands on Raven's shoulders, Starfire gently pushed her back down onto the small cot.
Raven could tell that Starfire was not at full strength. Though she was still abnormally strong, Raven could feel the difference in her grip. Starfire's super strength was weakening, and Raven wondered what other powers of Starfire's were not working.
"Starfire, I can sit up. I need to. I've been lying down and now I need to move so that my muscles don't atrophy." Raven managed to push Starfire away, showing just how weak her friend had gotten.
"Very well." Starfire sighed, clearly reluctant, but she moved back a little so Raven could have the room she needed. She then took hold of Raven's arm and helped her sit up.
Raven's body screamed at her. Her head felt like it weighed a million pounds. Pain ripped through her arms and legs. Sharp stabbing coursed through her side, wrapping around her stomach and up into her chest. She tried to take a deep breath but the pain made her chest tight.
When they finally got her upright, the room spun and tilted on its side. The floor flew up to meet her, and Raven's stomach flipped upside down.
"Oh, bad idea...bad...bad idea..." Raven moaned before falling over on her side.
"Raven!" Starfire tried to catch her, but apparently, the brunt of Raven's weight was too much. Starfire's knees gave out and she fell to the floor next to the simple cot. She did manage to cushion Raven's head before it hit the hard frame of the rickety cot with her hand.
They lay there like that for several minutes, trying to regain their breath. Raven waited for the spinning world to still before she tried moving or speaking again. From the look of her, Raven guessed that Starfire simply lacked the energy to move.
After several very long minutes, Raven felt more stable and the pounding in her head had dulled.
"Starfire?" She said softly.
Starfire grunted in acknowledgment from the floor without looking up.
"What happened?"
"Huh?"
"To us, what happened? Where are we?"
Starfire looked up, concern etched into her features.
"You do not remember?"
Raven frowned, thinking for a moment.
"Bits and pieces. I remember that we were fighting someone...I went down...and then nothing."
Starfire sat up and Raven saw her bite her lip.
"Yes. We were fighting the League of Assassins. We had received a report of someone lurking about a construction site downtown-"
"And we went to check it out because the guys were MIA," Raven recalled.
"Yes. When we arrived we determined a plan of action but we were ambushed. Assassins attacked us and prevented us from leaving. We were both injured in the process."
Raven remembered thinking the whole setup seemed like a trap. As Starfire continued to describe their battle, she remembered more and more on her own. Finally, Starfire came to the part when Raven had been knocked unconscious.
"You fell to the ground and did not move. So Changeling and I-"
"Oh Azar, Changeling!" Her fight with and partial confession to Gar came rushing back. How long had it been since then? Was he worried? Or did he care that she was gone at all?
"He's probably relieved that we're gone after the way we treated him.'"Timid whispered.
"He could be worried sick..." Love suggested quietly.
"He is most likely concerned for our well-being as a friend and teammate. Nothing more, nothing less." Wisdom reasoned.
"Raven? What is it?" Starfire drew her attention back to the present. She looked worried and scared. To be honest, Raven was worried and scared too.
"Changeling...he and I had a fight...but with everything that happened I completely forgot-" she gasped and sat up, startling Starfire. She did her best to ignore the spinning world and the bile that quickly rose to her throat. Starfire scooted forward and grasped her shoulders holding her steady.
"Raven?" Starfire's worry was growing and Raven didn't blame her. Her own worry grew with every erratic move or exclamation she made.
"The baby," Raven whispered, not wanting unwelcome ears to hear. "Is it...?" She stopped before she could finish, not sure if she had the strength or stomach to ask such a question.
Starfire seemed to relax a little and placed a gentle and discreet hand on her abdomen.
"I am alright. We both are." She whispered back with a small, sad, smile.
Raven let out the breath she had been holding, relieved.
'Okay, focus Raven. We're being held prisoner by the League of Assassins somewhere. You're hurt and powerless, Starfire is hurt and losing her power, and the guys probably have no idea where we are. What now?'
Having already surveyed their surroundings, Raven examined her teammate. Her clothes were covered in rips, dirt, and dried blood. A particularly nasty gash ran down the outside of her leg, though it looked as if someone had treated the wound. Large, crooked black stitches zig-zagged awkwardly across the surface of her friend's leg. The skin around it was red, swollen, and looked painful.
"Starfire you're hurt..." She rasped. Raven cleared her throat, trying to regain her voice. She reached forward, she probably had enough juice left to heal the angry-looking injury. Then maybe her friend would not be left with an ugly scar for the rest of her life. At the very least she could prevent it from getting infected.
Reading her mind, Starfire pushed her gently back, shaking her head.
"You are also injured friend Raven. You should focus on healing yourself if you are able." Starfire motioned to Raven's body for emphasis.
Raven looked down at herself and felt drained just by the sight. Her clothes hung off of her in tattered shreds. She was covered in dried blood and dirt, and her gray skin was a checkerboard of bruises and open wounds. Her side had been roughly stitched together in a fashion similar to Starfire's. A somewhat deep cut on her shoulder had not been stitched, and laid bare and partially open. One of her ankles was the size of a cantaloupe and was turning colors, and her hands looked like purple oven mitts.
'Azar...no wonder I feel so bad. My healing powers must not have had time to kick in yet.'
"How long have we been here?" She asked aloud frowning.
"At least three days," Starfire replied.
Raven's shocked purple eyes met Starfire's sad green ones.
"Three days? Are you sure?"
Starfire nodded her head, worry clear on her face.
Raven cursed under her breath. Her healing powers had never taken this long to kick in, even when she had drained herself of her powers in the past. Not that she pushed herself to the point of completely draining her powers often, but it had happened on occasion.
"Raven?"
"My powers are gone," Raven answered the silent question.
Starfire bit her lip but did not look surprised.
"Yes, I assumed as much when you did not go into your healing trance," she paused for a moment looking scared. "Mine are gone as well," Starfire whispered, affirming Raven's earlier guess. She looked down at her hands and her hair fell forward into her face. She sniffled and raised a hand to her cheek, wiping away a tear.
"And I'm guessing without them, there's no way out of here," Raven concluded.
Starfire shook her head.
"No there is not. I have checked multiple times." She looked up, watery green eyes silently pleading with Raven for answers. Raven's heart ached for her. If only she had the answers her friend was looking for.
"And without our communicators, there's no way for the guys to track us." Raven thought out loud. She spoke softly to try and keep their conversation private.
"I feel so empty..." Starfire whispered, no longer paying attention. She hugged her knees to her chest and buried her face into them, slowly rocking back and forth muttering to herself in Tamerianian. From the broken words and phrases Raven caught it sounded like she was muttering, "No hope, no hope, no hope" over and over again.
Raven grit her teeth and pushed herself off of the cot. Thankfully, Starfire was not that far away and she did not have to move very much to reach her.
"Starfire, Starfire look at me." Raven grasped her friend's head and forced her to look up. Tears ran down Starfire's cheeks in a constant flow of grief and pain. Her eyes were dazed and stared off into the distance, focused on nothing. Raven gripped her face, forcing Starfire to look her in the eye.
"Starfire, focus," Raven commanded. She winced, even to her ears, she sounded harsh. But she needed her teammate to be present. She couldn't allow Starfire to check out or shut down. She needed to keep her attention on solving the problem, not wallowing in it.
Starfire finally focused on Raven, new tears dripping from the corners of her eyes. A small hiccup escaped her lips causing her whole body to shake.
"It's going to be okay. We are going to get out of here." Raven spoke softly, not wanting to cause her friend any more distress. Starfire took a deep breath, forcing herself to calm down.
"Azarath, Metrion, Zinthos..." She muttered quietly. Raven's lips twitched into a small grin. She couldn't help it, she was glad that she could be of some help to her friend.
Starfire took another deep breath, then opened her eyes and focused on Raven. Despite the clear exhaustion, fear, and weakness, the Tamerianian princess appeared calm and focused, ready to tackle the next obstacle.
"Okay, we've been here for three days. No powers, no way out without our powers, no GPS trackers so safe to assume the guys have no way to find us, and both severely injured," Raven recapped. Starfire nodded in agreement.
"Who treated our wounds?" Raven went for the first obvious unanswered question.
"I do not know him. He is a doctor I believe, our captors refer to him as "The Doctor". However, I do not believe that he is a medical doctor."
Raven snorted.
"I could tell that by the treatment of our injuries. Or lack thereof. What kind of doctor is he?"
"From certain statements and the equipment I have seen in the lab, I believe that he is a geneticist," Starfire whispered conspiratorially. She glanced around behind Raven to ensure that they were not being listened to.
Raven frowned.
"What does the League of Assassins need with a geneticist?"
"I do not know, but I think it has something to do with us. He has made several comments about how we are not in the "proper condition", though I do not know what that means."
"What would they need a geneticist for with us? Cloning?" Raven bit her lip, trying to put the pieces of such a bazaar puzzle together. She wished Nightwing were here, he was better at this part than she was, and he enjoyed it.
"No, they would simply need a sample of our DNA to clone us. They would not need to go through the trouble of capturing us, or be worried about our condition." Starfire pointed out.
Somehow that did not make Raven feel any better. It only made her worry more.
"Then what in Azar's name could they want with us?" Raven muttered.
"What did you and Changeling fight about?" Starfire asked in a slightly louder voice. Raven blinked at the sudden subject change. She looked at her friend in confusion before realizing that Starfire was eyeing the guards. Movement behind her alerted Raven to the apparent problem.
'Ah, they were getting interested.'
"Well, it's not like you were being very discreet..." Rude commented.
Raven ignored her, focusing instead on how much to tell Starfire. In the end, her conscience won out and she decided to be completely honest with her orange friend. There was no point in trying to hide anything anyway. Starfire already knew most of the very embarrassing details of how she had been feeling about the changeling.
"How I've been treating him." Raven eventually replied, embarrassed to remember her behavior toward their green friend and teammate.
Starfire's head snapped back, her full attention on Raven. She gave Raven a confused, inquiring look, trying not to rush her friend, but anxious to understand.
She sighed, not wanting to own up to her mistake, but knowing that she needed to swallow her pride.
"I've been a crappy friend and teammate lately. One minute I'm kind and treat him like normal, then the next I'm mean and snap at him over the smallest things."
Starfire tilted her head, still confused.
"Yes, but friend Raven, is that not normal for you?"
"No. I mean, yes, but this is different. Lately, I've been pretty cruel, saying hurtful things to him intentionally, trying to upset him."
Understanding replaced confusion on Starfire's face.
"And he informed you that this was hurting him?"
"Not verbally, no. I saw it on his face and could tell from the emotions he was feeling. At least, until I apologized. Then he told me that he was hurt by what I said."
"And he did not forgive you?"
"No, he forgave me."
"Then why...?"
Raven huffed, even more embarrassed.
"He asked me why I said those things and I may have let it slip that I was jealous," she paused, then cleared her throat. "...of the girls he brings home." She mumbled. Her cheeks burned from embarrassment, and she wished she had her hood to hide under.
Starfire's eyes grew wide, her eyebrows reaching her hairline they were raised so far.
"You...what?" She whispered in disbelief.
Raven groaned and buried her face in her hands. This caused another wave of dizziness and nausea, but she didn't care. She just wanted to hide. Or if her powers were working, open up a portal and disappear.
"I know, it was stupid." She grumbled into her hands.
"No! This is wonderful! Now friend Changeling knows of your true feelings that you have for him and you can become the couple and we can all go on double dates and-"
"Whoa, slow down there Starfire," Raven held up a hand pausing her friend's runaway dream train before it got too far. "He doesn't feel the same way about me."
Once again Starfire gave Raven a confused look.
"Did he say this to you?"
"Well, no. We didn't exactly get that far."
Starfire raised a skeptical brow, silently demanding an explanation. Raven wondered if Dick knew that his girlfriend was picking up on his facial expressions and non-verbal cues.
"I sort of...got out of the car and teleported away...before he could say anything."
"Raven..." Starfire chided.
"I know, I know, but what if he laughed?! It is Changeling, after all, he hardly ever takes anything seriously."
"Raven that is not true and you know it. You are simply creating excuses so that you do not have to face the truth about your feelings and the reality of his."
Raven's cheeks flushed with embarrassment at being called out by her friend.
"You are an amazing woman Raven, and friend Changeling knows that. You deserve to be happy and experience the joy of love just as the rest of us do."
Raven looked at Starfire, confused. A feeling of panic began to slowly creep into her chest to grip her heart.
"Who said anything about love?"
Starfire gave her a "How dumb do you think I am?" look, making Raven's cheeks burn even more.
"Friend Raven, I have seen how you and Changeling look at each other. You might not be ready to admit it, but you do love each other and as far more than just teammates."
Raven opened her mouth to protest, but Starfire held up her hand, indicating that she wasn't done yet.
"You are afraid, and I understand why. You are afraid of your feelings for him because you fear that those feelings will cause you to lose control as they have in the past and as a result he will be hurt. But you are also afraid that he will in turn hurt your heart as others have hurt you in the past."
Raven looked down at her hands, uncomfortable with just how well the Tamerianian knew her. Her heart began to pound inside her chest and she felt as though she had been left exposed and vulnerable.
"I can't lose him," Raven whispered in defeat. A single tear dripped from the corner of her eye and slid down her cheek. It hurt to admit it, but she had come to rely on, even depend on Gar and his constant presence. His ill-timed jokes, his light-hearted air, his kindness, and his gentle heart. She could not bear to think of living in a world where he was not around to try and make her laugh, and cheer in triumph over just the slightest smile. If anything happened to him because of her and her feelings for him she would never forgive herself.
Starfire reached over, placing a kind hand on Raven's own swollen and bruised hands.
"What makes you think that you will lose him?" Starfire asked sympathetically.
"If my powers get out of control and he gets hurt, how would he ever be able to look at me the same way again? Just the hurt that I've already caused him from my words...Starfire, it would be ten times worse if I said or did anything to him because I lost control and we were...together. I couldn't live with it."
"Raven, I do not understand. You have not had an incident with your powers in years, and you are in far more control of them now than you have ever been. And friend Changeling has his inner demon that could cause him to lose control and possibly hurt you. Are you not worried about that?"
Raven shook her head firmly, despite the aching throb the motion caused.
"No. The Beast would never hurt me."
"Do you not think that friend Changeling is perhaps concerned for your safety regarding the Beast?"
"No, because he would never hurt me," Raven answered, confidant in Gar and the Beast inside of him.
"Then why are you so concerned about your powers hurting Changeling? You would never intentionally hurt-"
"Except that I have! I have already intentionally hurt him far more times than I can count Starfire. And our powers are different. When he loses control he is still aware, he still has a semblance of influence on the Beast. Me, when I lose control, I lose control. I'm not even aware that I've lost control sometimes. I cannot guarantee his safety with me if I were to lose control."
Raven was desperate to get her best friend to understand the peril their green teammate would be in if they were to ever enter into a romantic relationship. An intense emotional burden, a moral obligation, and reasonability to protect her friends from herself pressed in on her from all sides, suffocating her.
"But he has the means to protect himself, just as you have-"
"He deserves someone better than me, okay?!" Raven shouted. She didn't know where the words came from. It was as if they had traveled from deep within her soul and exploded from her lips on their own. She could feel the shock from her emoticons from Nevermore as they stood, stunned into silence. She too felt shock at her outburst, but she also felt an overwhelming despair come over her as she realized just how true her words were.
Starfire looked taken aback by the sudden outburst.
Raven felt like her control was slowly slipping through her fingers. Tears poured down her cheeks, unbidden. Her body trembled from pain, weariness, and sobs. Her chest tightened and she felt like she couldn't breathe. Her head swam, jumbled memories, thoughts, and the voices of her emoticons swirling together in one giant mess. Had her powers been working the whole cavern would have collapsed.
She placed a hand on the cool floor, hoping that it would help ground her. Panic enveloped her, and she started seeing spots in her vision. She began hyperventilating, trying to regain her breath. Hiccups shook her whole body and made her head and chest rattle.
Starfire gripped her shoulders and said something, but her voice sounded far away.
Something, a dark aura almost, creeped out from the walls. It slowly made its way to Raven, whispering dark, ominous things into her ear. She shuddered, a chill running up and down her spine. Cold dark fingers wrapped around her throat, gripping her in a feeling of dread, fear, panic, and intense darkness.
She fell to the floor, shaking. Bile rose from her stomach and filled her throat. She choked, trying to keep it down, but it was too late. She emptied her stomach's contents onto the bare floor of their small cage. She had felt the effects of dark magic before, but never like this. This was something else far darker and more sinister than she had ever encountered before.
A cold, invisible hand roamed over her body while an evil voice whispered vile things into her ears. She choked on a sob, wanting nothing more than to be in her bed, at the tower, safe in Gar's strong arms. More tears trickled down her cheeks at the thought that she would probably never see him again.
She whimpered as another round of vomiting ensued. She tried to reach the bucket, but cold bands of dark magical energy wrapped around her body, pinning her arms to her body and binding her legs. Her magical bonds squeezed her so tight she felt as though her bones would break. Everywhere the invisible bands made contact with her bare skin it burned like someone was pressing a piece of flaming metal into her skin and an angry red rash appeared.
"Starfire..." Raven tried to scream, but all that came out was a weak whisper. She tried to reach for her friend, tried to get away from the burning, tried to shake off her bonds, but every time she tried to move, the restraints only squeezed her tighter.
"Raven! What is wrong?" Starfire cried.
Raven gasped for breath, barely able to breathe. She tried to respond, but could only watch helplessly as her friend panicked.
"She has been affected." A soft voice said from somewhere nearby.
Starfire jerked back, startled by the new voice. Raven followed her friend's eyes to see a woman in a dark robe standing before them outside of their cage. The woman was watching Raven with a calculated curiosity, as though Raven were merely an experiment or math problem to be solved.
"What have you done to my friend?!" Starfire snarled, throwing herself up against the bars at the woman.
"She has been affected by this place and its magic." The woman answered simply, her eyes never leaving Raven.
"How do I fix it?" Starfire demanded.
"You cannot. Your friend's natural magic is pure, while this place has been built upon magical constructs that have been tainted. This has caused your friend to suffer from a negative effect from the tainted magic of this place. Interesting." The strange woman sounded clinical, with no emotion or inflection in her voice at all, and she never took her eyes off of Raven which only added to the creepy factor.
"Negative effect my ass..." Brave drawled.
"I believe that "negative effect" is an understatement." Wisdom countered, a slight hint of concern in her voice.
"I can't take much more of this!" Timid cried, sobbing.
'None of you are helping right now!' Raven shouted in her head.
Starfire seemed disarmed and confused by the woman's clinical explanation.
"Is that why she has lost her powers, because of this place's effect on her?"
The woman tilted her head, studying Raven more curiously. After a few moments of thoughtful silence, the woman responded.
"No. She did not lose her powers here. She came here without any powers. If she had them then the magic's effect on her would be far worse."
"Worse?! How could it possibly be worse?!" Timid shrieked.
"I do not understand..." Starfire sounded desperate and confused.
The woman finally looked at Starfire, eyes empty and emotionless.
"It is not for you to understand Tamerianian. You have your problems to concern yourself with." She gave Starfire a critical once over with such intensity that Starfire backed away from the bars as though they were made of poison.
"Prepare yourselves. The doctor will see you soon." She said ominously. She gave Raven one last look of clinical interest and curiosity, before waving her hand and muttering a few words. Immediately Raven was released from her bonds, gasping for air. The woman then turned and left just as quietly as she had arrived.
Raven rolled over, coughing uncontrollably. Her body shook and shuddered, exhausted and weak.
Starfire watched the woman leave, ensuring that she would not return, before turning her attention back to Raven. She looked stunned and bewildered as she knelt next to Raven, placing a soothing hand on her friend's back.
"What...just happened?"
The Titan men stood around the common room, waiting for the video call to go through.
It was dark, both outside and inside the tower.
It was barely three in the morning, the sun was nowhere near rising. A dense fog had settled over the bay, blocking any light from the moon, the distant city lights nothing but a faint glow.
The three men had just returned from their city-wide search for the girls and hadn't bothered to turn the lights on. Lights were the least of their worries right now. They had scoured the city from top to bottom, with no sign of either Starfire or Raven. Nightwing and Changeling were both on the verge of falling apart and it was all Cyborg could do to keep them all together.
Nightwing drummed his fingers impatiently against the console.
It had already been over three days, the girls could be anywhere by now. He needed help, and he didn't care if it started World War III or the apocalypse, or whatever. Starfire, the woman he loved, and their unborn child were in danger, he was putting the whole world, every hero on Red Alert.
A low growl emanated from the back of the common room.
Changeling clenched his jaw, trying to keep the Beast under control. Neither of them had wanted to stop searching to come back to the tower. Every moment that they wasted not looking for Raven, was another moment that any of his worst nightmares could come true. She could be hurt, tortured, killed, or worse.
Another growl rumbled in his chest at the thought of anything happening to Raven.
Nightwing tensed at the growl, but ignored it, which at the moment was the best thing he could do for the green changeling.
Cyborg looked weary as he shuffled around the kitchen finding them food to eat. None of them had eaten much more than a couple of protein bars over the last three days, not having the stomach for anything else. Even the protein bars Cyborg had had to force down Nightwing and Changeling's throats because neither of them had had an appetite for days.
The screen beeped, signifying that the call had not gone through.
"Damn it!" Nightwing slammed his fist down on the console.
Changeling sighed and sat down on the step at the back of the room.
'We don't have time for this. We need to get back out there and look for Raven.' He thought as Nightwing started up another video call.
This time it only took a few moments before the screen flashed on.
"Bruce..." Nightwing's voice broke as he spoke.
"I need your help..."
