Chapter Eight - Briefly Back In Stars Hollow

It had been the usual interminable morning for Michel, having to channel out Lorelai's 'humorous' banter not to mention Jackson and Sookie being annoying with vegetables in the kitchen. Fortunately that was about to change as his favorite person entered the building.

"Mrs Kimmmmm," purred Michel, as the woman known as Mrs Kim entered the reception area of the Dragonfly Inn. ""What can I do for you?"

"I wanted to double-check who was staying here last week. Lorelai gave me list of famous people from all over the world who stay here. Of course, they all deny it and get restraining orders. I want to know if I miss anyone."

Michel stifled a laugh. "Ohhh, that Lorelai is a scamp. The only famous people here last week were Norman Mailer and a has-been harp player."

Mrs Kim stared at Michel.

"You have to laugh," he continued. "Ohhhh, apparently you don't."

"Where are they now?" said a stone-faced Mrs Kim.

"I couldn't possibly tell you that… but between you and me, Mr Mailer went off to Hollywood and Drella's on her way to Vegas."

"I see," said Mrs Kim. "Thank you."

"Always a pleasure. I'll be sure to tell Lorelai you dropped by."

As Mrs Kim disappeared, Michel smiled. It was shaping out to be a good morning. Even if Lorelai appeared, he'd relish seeing her fear, hearing her momentary silence, when he told her Mrs Kim had been here.

Kirk was flexing his fingers, improving his shadow-puppet mastery, when Mrs Kim walked in.

"Mrs Kim?"

"Lulu let me in," she said. "Tambourine practice over now. Back to investigating. We have to leave Stars Hollow. Going where stars are really hollow."

"I can't go," said Kirk firmly, "I've a business to run."

"We go to Hollywood."

"I'll get my coat," Kirk said, envisaging showing his groundbreaking short film there, even remaking it with shadow puppets.

And so it was, as the Troubadour would later sing on a street corner, that Mrs Kim and Kirk went to La La Land to visit Norman Mailer.
