Ladrien June 2024

Day #7: Jealousy

Adrien sat in his room, at his desk, watching a video recently uploaded to the Ladyblog, taken in the aftermath of the akuma battle he'd just returned home from.

"Pound it!" Ladybug and Chat Noir said, pounding their fists together.

But before Ladybug could take her hand back, Chat grasped it and pulled her closer to him.

"Astounding once again, milady," he said to her in a flirty tone. Then he covered her hand with his other hand. "We really are the purrfect pair," he purred, leaning in close with his signature smirk.

Ladybug sneered and quickly pushed him away.

"Chat!" she exclaimed. "I thought you said you'd cut that out. You know I have a boyfriend, who I love with all my heart," she said. Then she crossed her arms and glanced away. "I thought you respected that," she grunted.

"Yeah, Chat Noir. How dare you," an unseen bystander said from somewhere behind the camera.

"Jeeze, Chat Noir. Not cool," said another, also disappointed.

"She and Adrien Agreste are the cutest couple in Paris!" a third exclaimed in outrage.

"I…I-" Chat stuttered, looking back and forth from the camera, to the other bystanders, and to Ladybug. "I'm sorry," he said to no one specifically before turning back to a ticked off Ladybug. "Really. Ladybug, I'm sorry. I-" he paused. "Old habits die hard, I guess?" he shrugged with an awkward smile. "I promise, it'll never happen again," he said more sincerely.

Then, without another word, both superheroes left the scene in opposite directions.

When the video ended, Adrien scrolled down and looked at some of the comments;

Chat Noir is a dog.

How dare he hit on Adrien Agreste's girlfriend.

I know they're partners. I used to ship them. But she's with Adrien. They're in love, so I respect that and ship them now. If he really loved her, Chat Noir would too.

Adrien bonked his forehead onto his desktop a few times.

He hadn't meant to be so flirty with her. He just got so caught up in the moment in her presence that he forgot that he wasn't her boyfriend at the moment. He was her partner.

She was dating Adrien, not Chat.

It wasn't right for Chat to flirt with her as intensely as he used to anymore because now she was dating someone else. It also wasn't much better before that because she was never interested in Chat Noir anyway.

It wasn't right. Not in her eyes or the public's.

Adrien glanced back up at the comments and another caught his eye;

Man, Adrien is going to be so pissed when he sees this video. I hope he doesn't get akumatized.

Seeing that comment made Adrien sit up straight. If this person thought of that as a possibility, then Ladybug of might as well.

That was when he also remembered that she was supposed to come over that day.

No doubt, she'd know that he'd seen the video and must be furious. She might be worried that he really will attract an akuma.

He wasn't mad so he knew there was no danger of that actually happening, but nobody else did. If Adrien didn't appear to be even a little bothered from seeing another hitting on his girlfriend so shamelessly, someone—mainly Ladybug herself—will think something is up.

When they started seeing each other, Ladybug had promised him that she'd reveal her civilian identity to him, but not until after Hawkmoth was defeated. It was just safer for them. And Adrien had promised to himself that he'd in turn, reveal himself to her after their arch nemesis was no longer a threat. So it wouldn't be safe for her to figure it out before then.

Well, if he had to play the jealous boyfriend to make sure she didn't find out his identity, then so be it.

Ladybug was welcome in the mansion. His father—while his son had been skeptical at first—was surprisingly very supportive and enthusiastic when his son had told him that he and the spotted heroine had started a relationship.

He thought it'd be great for his image; Adrien Agreste, Paris's beloved teen model, dating Paris's beloved heroine, Ladybug.

And he was glad that his son was happy with her anyway.

So Ladybug was allowed through the front door when she came over. Although, she did still secretly enter through Adrien's bedroom window every now and then.

Nathalie was there to open the door when Ladybug came over. The spotted heroine entered the home.

"Adrien's in the dinning room. I've laid out some snacks," Nathalie informed her after closing the door behind her.

"Thank you," she replied politely. Then she frowned, glancing in the direction of the door to the dining room. "Um, is he-" she asked timidly.

After seeing the video and reading the comments, she was afraid that Adrien would be angry. And not just with Chat Noir, but her too.

"He's…upset," the older woman replied. Ladybug bit her lip in worry. "But not with you," she added. Which was a bit reassuring. But the heroine still felt bad.

It didn't look like she was okay with his flirting in the video but that didn't mean it still wouldn't upset him. This was just one time. One time that had been caught on video and was now on the internet for everyone to see. So he could very well assume that this wasn't the only time. Afterall, they worked together and saw each other every time there was an akums—which was often but not very. If he thought that Chat was like that with her constantly, he might assume that she was okay with it and might actually leave him for her partner.

If Adrien wasn't angry with her, good. But then it was most definitely Chat Noir he was angry with. Which could definitely attract an akuma, compelling him to attack her partner in a jealous rage.

She was planning on coming over anyway, but even if she wasn't, she would have still come over to make sure he was okay and reassure him that Chat wasn't going to take her away from him.

Ladybug walked past Nathalie to the doors of the dinning room and poked her head in. The first thing to catch her eye were all of their favorite snacks on the table. Her eyes needed a few extra second to locate her boyfriend.

He was sitting in one of the comfy chairs on the other side of the table, staring at the unlit fireplace.

Cautiously, Ladybug scooched inside, closing the door behind her, walked around the table, and approached the chairs.

"Adrien," she greeted him sweetly.

The blonde model didn't move his head. "Hey," he replied, his voice glum.

Ladybug nervously fussed with her hands for a second. "So…you saw the video?"

"Yup," he said, no change in his position or tone. "Chat was laying it on a bit thick, wasn't he?" he snapped, sounding a bit more gruff.

Yup, definitely upset.

"Yeah," she replied. "Listen, I know you're mad-"

"Mad?" Adrien interrupted her before finally turning his head to her. "I'm furious!" he raised his voice without full-on shouting. Then he stood up. "I don't care if he's your partner. He has no right to just-!" Adrien cut himself off, clenching one of his fists and glanced down.

"Adrien, please," Ladybug stepped closer to him, placing both her hands on his shoulders. "Breath," she asked. Adrien raised his head, meeting her kind gaze and let her guide him through three or four deep breaths. "I'm sorry," she said when he looked calmer.

"Why are you sorry? You didn't do anything wrong. I saw you push him away and remind him that you're spoken for," Adrien said, placing his hands on top of hers, still on his shoulders. His gaze was loving but still sad. "He's the one who can't take a hint," he added, a bit gruff again.

"He knows. I think he just…wasn't thinking," she explained. "He's used to flirting and joking around with me, it's just who he is. He doesn't mean it. And remember, he did apologize. He realized that he went too far and made me uncomfortable."

"That's true," Adrien nodded. "But still I…feel sort of jealous sometimes," he admitted. "I mean, you guys fight side by side, watch each other's backs, care for one another, face villains together," he listed off.

He wasn't planning on dragging this discussion out much but touching on this felt like the appropriate thing to do, to make it convincing. And he had to admit, he was impressed with his own acting so far. He hated having to lie to her, but he knew it came with protecting his identity.

"Yes, but that's just our job. We have to be in sync with each other to prevail against Hawkmoth's akumas. But that's it. It's not like we do much else together. We don't go to the movies, or have picnics, or go for romantic walks along the Seine at sunset," she listed off, giving him a loving grin at the end, making him grin back. Those were the things they did together. "He's just my partner in battle. You don't have to be jealous that it's not you out there with me." True, she was a teenager just like him under her costume, but she was chosen for this. This was hers and Chat's to carry, not Adrien's.

Adrien nodded. "I understand," he said softly.

"And if it'll make you feel better, I could talk to Chat Noir again about his flirting habits."

"It couldn't hurt," he shrugged. This whole incident was a good reminder for him to be more careful with his flirting with her while in costume. But she needed to remind 'Chat Noir' to his masked face anyway.

Ladybug's hands went up from his shoulders to his face, cupping both his cheeks. "I love you, and only you," she said tenderly. "I need you to know that."

"I do," Adrien smiled reassuringly. "And I want you to know that I love you too."

Ladybug smiled back, leaned forward, and kisses him. It was brief but it was sweet and exactly what they both needed.

Adrien had nothing to be jealous of.

Mainly because it didn't make much sense to be jealous of himself.
