Hello readers! I just wanted to thank everyone for taking your time to read my story. Now for the reason for this. I want to rewrite this story massively. Originally, I just wanted to write a couple simple chapters and that's it. But there were a lot I wanted to set up and also wanted consistency. Hopefully it turns out well and I hope you all enjoy it!
Inside a room, there's a dark skinned man with long dreads sitting on a desk with a revolver in front of him. He grabs it to open the loaded cartridge. He removes one bullet and spins it multiple times. He slowly points it to his head.
Day 1
A white van was driving through a dirt road. It was a sunny day, as the two men were heading towards Site-7. They were wearing gray Foundation military uniform, covering their entire body with a white cloth and protective goggles.
"Attention. Everyone, please head to the nearest site available. Anyone exposed to the sunlight, should be terminated at sight. Fu-" the dark skinned man turned off the radio, focusing on driving in silence.
His partner cleared his throat. "So a K-Class end-of-the-world, huh? We all knew something like this would happen eventually. It's just crazy when it actually does." He looked at the driver. "What do you think, Cerberus?"
"I don't know. That it sucks." He answered drily.
His partner nodded. "Understatement of the century. You always know how to play it cool." He smiled. "So how many times have you seen me cloned?" Cerberus doesn't respond. His partner pulled out a tablet. "They declassified every single SCP log. I took a chance at reading some of it and SCP-2000 caught my interest." He stared at the passing tree. "It didn't work for you, right?"
"...They took a sample and injected my DNA into its database. But an error would always pop up and no clones would be produced. It was getting overheated and shut down. It would take weeks for it to be functional. After that, no further testing was done." He explained.
"I see. Any other method?"
Cereberus shrugged. "Everything but teleportation and a couple things. Since all they cared about was replicating me, that's all the Foundation worked on."
"I know. I've read all of the tests." He pulled his log. "They even had you mate with the princess of Spain. I bet that must've been a blast." He grinned.
"Fucking hell. I told them to not document that one." He sighed. "Not like it mattered. Turns out I'm infertile. There's no hope for my anomaly to be shared."
"One of a kind. Truly a blessing to have."
"No. It's a curse. Unlike you, I only have one shot. Once this disaster settles, I'll make sure to activate the procedure and go into hiding until everything is done again."
"Must be scary. Seeing those who died just live their lives ignorant of what happened. That explains your cold attitude." He laughed to himself. "Remember when you first joined, that you were shitting yourself until I brought a can of Sprite?"
"Why bring that up?"
"Because that was the first time I got to see your eyes."
Cerberus bursted into laughter. "You're such a cornball, Rob." He lightly jabbed his arm.
They arrived at the Site, where there was a commotion at the entrance. A man was on the ground convulsing. Black bile oozed out of his orifices. Soldiers surrounded him and used a cryogenically engineered machine rifle, freezing his body completely. The two men exited the van and walked towards the soldiers.
"Hey. Reinforcement arrived." Rob said to the captain.
"Only two?" He asked.
"This is a global issue. We're all they had. Besides, you got this guy." Rob pointed at Cerberus.
"I suppose we should count our blessings. You two head inside with the rest. We'll take care of him." The captain ordered. They saluted and headed inside.
The place was filled with distressed civilians, doctors, researchers and soldiers. "Welcome to our new home." Rob joked. Cerberus was not in the mood.
Day 7
Cerberus was in his room reading the unclassified documents. Rob stepped in the room. "Hey man. Reading Solo Leveling?"
"Just catching up on the logs. Trying to find one that could help us." He said.
"Heh. Always a good egg. You heard they're building a rocket ship? Something about flying away from the sun's rays. I bet your sweetheart is going to be first class." He grinned.
"They may have given up, but I'm sure there's something here. Otherwise, they wouldn't do this." Cerberus was getting frustrated.
Rob patted his shoulder. "Don't worry. Remember, it always works out in the end." He took a deep breath. "Listen. We're running low on supplies. They say we only got a week's worth. So me and some fellas are going out to retrieve food and water."
Cerberus stood up. "I'm coming too."
"No. You need to stay here and protect them. We don't even know if you're unaffected." Rob said.
"The more of us there are, the more we can gather."
"Or the more casualties." Rob retorted. "I know you want to be the hero, but we're in this together. Morale has been kinda low and it keeps them in line seeing a stoic man as their guardian." He started walking away. "We'll be back in no time. You should come and stay on watch." He said before leaving. Cerberus goes to the entrance, seeing most of the soldiers and Robert heading out.
Hours passed, with no sign of their return. The civilians were complaining about the reduced food and water. Cerberus was tapping his fingers out of frustration, but understood their desperation. He received his portions, which was more of a snack than a proper meal.
A woman collapsed on the floor. "Mommy!" The child went to her side, crying anxiously. The doctors sent her to the medical room, as others tried to console the child.
"She's not gonna make it." The researcher next to him said. "She was giving all the food to her kid, causing her body to be malnourished. We're at a point where we can't help them anymore." He looked at him. "Please, make sure to keep yourself healthy." He said before attending a civilian. Cerberus looked down at his plate, then at the child, who was sniffling. He groaned and ate his share.
"They're here!" Someone shouted. Three soldiers returned from their expedition. Robert was holding a duffel bag with everything they could gather.
Cerberus approached him. "What happened to the others?"
Robert's eyes were darting back and forth. "T-Those things…they defy death." he mumbled.
"What are you talking about?"
Robert made eye contact. "I saw it. Those black sludges…they combined into t-this amalgamation of bodies. It swallowed three of them." He took a deep breath. "The other one shot himself, b-b-but…they revived him to torture…" Robert broke down. Cerberus is shocked by the news. Dread sank deeply in his heart.
Day 17
They've ran out of food for a week and their numbers have been dwindling. Some died of malnourishment, others couldn't take it anymore and ate lead instead. Cerberus and Robert made sure to keep the scattered weapons inside a locker. They were the only soldiers left. A civilian fell on the floor. The survivors gathered around the corpse and started eating him like hungry dogs.
"If we don't join them, we'll be on the chopping block." Robert said. Cerberus was tapping his handgun. He sighed. "Would make us no different than those things." They finished eating, leaving nothing but bones. They all turned to face them, covered in blood and gore. "If you keep looking at us like that, you'll be next. Final warning." One charged at them. Robert shot him in the head. Then two more who didn't follow orders. Cerberus stopped tapping. "Don't think death will release you. Let me know if you want to be food for those things." He warned. The others backed off, dragging the corpses with them in the other room. They were alone.
Cerberus starts tearing up. "Is…is there any hope?"
Robert patted his shoulder. "So long as we still live, there's a way. Besides, everything will work out in the end, right?"
"This is fucking different! There's no safe place!" Cerberus started having a panic attack.
Robert grabbed him. "Hey hey. Look at me. Look at me." Cerberus did as he commanded. "Let's play a little game." He pulled out his revolver and empty the cartridge, save for one. "A game of fate." He spinned it and pointed to his head.
"W-W-WAI-"
*Click*
Cerberus was hyperventilating. Robert handed him the gun. "Your turn." Cerberus didn't understand. His hands were shaking violently. He pointed the gun to himself. They both held their breath. Their hearts beated loudly.
*Click*
They both gasped for air. Robert smiled. "See? Fate wanted us to keep going. That's all we have right now. You take a rest. I'll keep an eye on those bastards." He nodded. Cerberus didn't want to leave him alone, but he hasn't slept for days.
Day 18
Cerberus woke up. He struggled to stand as he barely had any energy. He walked through the empty hallway that was onced filled with people. But it seemed too quiet. He couldn't find Robert anywhere.
"Robert? Robert!" His voice echoed before silence returned. Feeling nervous, he pulled out his handgun. He passed through bodies filled with bullets. One of them had a shotgun. There was a trail of blood leading to a room close by. Steadying his breath, he followed with caution. When he peeked around the corner, he found Robert barely breathing sitting with a pool of blood beneath him. "Robert!" He checked his body. His abdomen was shot. "I'll get the medical kit." He was about to leave, but Robert grabbed his arm.
"...It's too…late." He said in between gasps. He weakly smiles. "Everything w-will…wor…the..end…" His arm goes limp.
Cerberus stood there.
Day 19
Cerberus stood there.
Day 20
Cerberus stood there. Hunger settled in.
Day 21
Cerberus stood there. Thirst settled in.
Day 22
Cerberus stood there. Then he walked to the supply room to drink water. He tossed the glass to the floor. He kneeled and wailed at the top of his lungs, until his throat was sore.
Day 23
Cerberus was sitting in his room, caged in his mind. Hours passed, when he heard a banging outside. He quickly grabbed his rifle to investigate. The source came from the main entrance. It sounded like a giant knocking on the door. He could hear murmurs on the other side. He entered the security room to check on the cameras. He gasped in horror.
Outside, were the black sludge creatures. They had surrounded the entire Site trying to breach. The people were mixed and stretched by the sludge. They were speaking intelligibly at first, then looked directly at the camera in silence. Cerberus was petrified. He couldn't control his breathing. His vision was disoriented. He rushed out to his room.
Day 29
The banging never stopped. The voices keep getting louder. He looks at the revolver in front him. He grabs it and opens the loaded cartridge. He removes one bullet and spins it multiple times. He looks at the gun one more time, before slowly pointing at himself.
*Click*
He is blankly staring at the ceiling and lowers the gun. "Everything will work out in the end, huh?" His voice quivers, as tears fall down his cheeks.
He enters the supply room to prepare for evacuation. He grabs a duffle bag to fill it with weapons, ammo and water. Then puts on a white cloth on top of his uniform. Once ready, he opens the door and almost has a heart attack. In front of him, is a blonde Caucasian woman with casual clothing. Her green eyes are shocked in fear. She turns to run, but Cerberus grabs her arm.
In a blink of an eye, the immediate brightness blinds Cerberus. A cool wind breezes through his body. He starts panicking, not knowing where he is. He prepares his rifle, ready to blast any of those abominations. His vision starts clearing and the first thing he sees is vegetation. This confuses him, as the sun destroyed every living thing. He looks at the woman in front of him. She is shaking. He notices the clear blue sky, then gazes wide-eyed at the sun. Shining comfortably from above. It is stinging, but he is too shocked to look away. Then helicopters invade his view. They have the SCP logo, as soldiers descend with their weapons aiming at him.
"Put the weapon down!" She commands him. He drops the rifle, as she puts handcuffs on him. His body is on autopilot as he's being taken inside the aircraft.
