The next morning Sarah took me and Jim shopping to get what we needed for the trip. It's a good thing since neither of us can wear the same outfit everyday. I picked out short sleeved purple, blue, and white shirts, brown pants, a black jacket, a long sleeved grey pajama shirt with matching long pants, and black ankle boots. While I was picking everything out, I was hesitant to grab anything. I'd never really been shopping and I didn't want to spend a lot of Sarah's money. After getting clothing I was taken to a barber shop to even out my new hair style. Everyone was surprised to see what I did to my hair and their silence made me worry. Thankfully, they all said I looked cute with shorter hair and it suited me better than long hair.
The night before the trip, I emptied out my backpack to hold my new clothes. I placed my books under my bed, in different piles for each series. I only left my notebook to write stories, my own work that helps me escape reality with the red lead pencil I use for writing, underneath all my clothes. As I cleaned the bag, I came across something I had forgotten about. An old gold locket. It's not real gold, just fake but it means a lot to me. I could see the word family carved into the front. I opened it up and smiled seeing the pictures I put in. Ones of Jim, Sarah, and Silver. What these people don't know is that they helped me out when I felt like no one could. I went to the bathroom and put it on, smiling at how it seemed home on my neck.
Morning had come sooner than expected. Soon I was on the bus that was taking the three of us to the space port. I was busy looking out the window, watching the view until we arrived. As soon as the all clear was given to exit, everyone filled out. Jim and I were the first ones to get off. I stared at my surroundings in awe. The many aliens talking to one another in different languages and the buildings that seemed stacked on one another. Many different boats were docking and deporting into space with many manta ray like creatures, squeaking as they flew by. I briefly saw Jim looking around in awe too. "Jim, Emma." We heard Delbert say. "Oh Jim and Emma! Wait for me!"
Jim let out a sigh as he looked at the sky for a brief moment and I smiled trying not to chuckle. Delbert came down the ramp in a ridiculous, yellow and tan, metal suit that some saleswoman (or is it saleswomen sense they have two heads?) got him to buy. We both let out soft chuckles as we heard the clanking of his suit get closer. I looked at the man as he approached us, the dome, glass window on his helmet open for him to talk to us clearly. "Well, Jim and Emma, this should be a wonderful opportunity for the three of us to get to know one another." He said. Jim sighed at that sentence. "You know what they say, familiarity breeds, um, well contempt but in our case..."
"Look." Jim said. "Let's just find the ship. Okay?" He walked off. I followed him but looked back in time to see he glass window falling back into place. I turned away and snickered to myself. That metal catastrophe doesn't suit him. At all. The three of us wondered around the port looking for the ship. Jim asked a robot and a small, furry red alien where the boat is.
"Second berth on your right." The robot said, pointing in said direction.
"You can't miss it." The alien added.
"Thanks." We both said. We walked down some steps and in the direction given to us. Excitement started to creep up in my system. I was soon going to see a boat I had only seen before. Not only see it, but be able to sail on it. This is so exciting! I could already feel happier here than before.
"I should never have listened to that two-headed saleswoman. This one said it fit, that one said it was my color. I didn't know what to do. I get so flustered." The whole time he said that, Jim and I were searching for the boat. Jim had stopped walking and was looking at something ahead. I almost bumped into him and was trying to look over him to see it. Delbert bumped into me, which made me bump into Jim. The teen glared at me. I just pointed to Delbert and he glared at him instead. "Oh, Jim and Emma! This is our ship!" The dog alien said. "The R.L.S Legacy!"
I moved out of the way and looked up. A smile came onto my face to see the very ship I had been wanting to ride ever since I first saw this movie. A beautiful ship was docked, a ramp leading up to the deck, with beautiful shades of blue, gold, and white on the standard brown. Some rockets were attached to the back of the boat, allowing it to fly into space. "Whoa." Jim and I said. 'It's even more beautiful up close!' I thought. I followed Jim as he walked to the ramp. I wanted to run until I was on deck but knew it would leave a bad first impression. No one on that boat would want to deal with an energetic kid.
"Stow those casks forward!" Someone yelled. "Heave together now!"
"How cool is this?" Jim asked when we got on board.
"Very cool." I responded.
I could see the crew bringing supplies on board. I turned around hearing squishing coming out of someone. I saw that Jim had stepped on the tail of a slug like alien, with tentacles for its mouth wearing a red vest and a black hat. He looked at his tail, seeing Jim's shoe print in it.
"Sorry about that." Jim said. "I didn't mean—"
He was cut off by the alien making angry noises that sounded like gas, the kind that escapes someone's butt. I scrunched my lips together to not bust out laughing. This part always cracked me up when I watched it and I would laugh like crazy. However, if I did that now things wouldn't end well. Jim's hair got messed up when the alien yelled at him. Delbert appeared and looked concerned about what was being said.
"Allow me to handle this." He said. He started blowing raspberries and squeaking noises. Jim and I were impressed that he could communicate with the other party in his native tongue. The slug alien started laughing, though it sounded like more gas. "I'm fluent in Flatula, kids." Delbert said. "Took two years of it in high school." He gave a salute while saying something in the language as he walked off.
"Flatula?" Jim said. "Cool." He fixed his hair and we both followed Delbert. I was silently chuckling for a moment from the encounter. Soon we came across another alien, one that looked like he was made of rocks. For some reason he reminded me of Korg from Thor: Ragnarok. He was wear an admiral uniform that composed of a red jacket, black hat, white vest and shirt, black tie or something similar I can't tell, and tan pants.
"Good morning, Captain." Delbert said. "Everything shipshape?"
"Shipshape it is sir, but I'm not the captain." The second in command responded. Delbert and Jim were confused but I just smirked. He motioned above. "The captain's aloft."
