Chapter 5:

Footsteps

Calypso

Leo

Percy felt a tear fall off his chin and fall into the sand.

The mechanical dragon lay next to the grave of his master like a kicked puppy, except for the fact that Festus himself had been torn apart.

The realization repeated in Percy's mind.

Leo and Calypso died here.

Calypso, the girl who Percy had spent time with on this island almost fell in love with.

Leo, the crazy ADHD elf that created the argos II and at this point might as well have been his little brother.

Both were now gone.

It almost felt like a cruel joke made by the gods and at this point it might as well have been one.

Seeing his friends perish at camp, seeing Annabeth getting struck by lightning, getting sent to Ogygia, only to find the tombstones of his two friends.

Was he supposed to laugh or cry?

Trying to do neither Percy tried to study what little of the house he could see and Festus.

Both were damaged to some degree, though Festus got the worst end of the stick with burn marks and parts of his plating appearing to have been ripped to shreds by something with sharp claws.

He found several tools and plastic packages strown around the house. A metal wrench, an empty watercan, a haphazardly pulled together solar panel.

Did Leo and Calypso try to live here? The last thing he had heart was that they were in Indianapolis.

The house had been divided into the original part, and a small camp that had been set up outside the house. The two were connected through a large piece of cloth stitched together.

Percy walked past an old tv. He tried to turn it on but the power must have been disconnected.

After going through some more rubbish Percy started to pick out items that seemed semi useful or intact. A flask with a built-in filter, a lightweight backpack, some dry package food and various other tools that might be useful on a long journey home.

He went looking for Leo's toolbelt but didn't find it, what he did find was something much more interesting.

As he pushed a piece of the door that had fallen his eyes fell on a notebook.

As if it was asking him to reach out his hand drew towards it.

He paused, feeling the heavy air surrounding him.

He turned the cover.

Leo's Captain Log.

This was it.

With glee Percy picked it up- expecting to finally find some answers. He sat down outside on a rock. Took a sip from a half empty soda can that was left behind and started to skim through the book.

From the corner of his eyes he could see the two graves. Percy had a feeling Leo wanted him to pick this up.

If you found this book then it means you either stole it or I died.

If the first applies, please return the book, if the second applies, keep on reading!

Percy couldn't help himself but to chuckle. No matter how grim it was, Leo somehow managed to make fun of every situation. Even now.

My name is Leo Valdez, I am a demigod. The hows and why are not really important so I'll skip that part. It's probably all over the news anyway.

So if you're reading this you probably know Olympus declared war on all of humanity for reasons unknown.

The following pages detail a recollection of events that transpired. They're not perfect since there have been communication issues world wide but I'll try to be as accurate as possible for whoever follows in my footsteps.

Now, come and follow Captain Leo as he tries to figure out what happened.
