Ben finds out that Jackson and April are back together.
Whilst Jackson Avery isn't thrilled about being back in Seattle on business, he is thrilled to at least get a chance to see some of the people he left behind. He may not necessarily miss the place and all of the drama and tragedy that seems to come with it, but he does miss the connections he had there - in particular, his friendship with Ben. He'd always had a soft spot for the guy, and admired what he and Miranda had built over the years, and Ben had always made an effort to be there for him - particularly after his divorce, when their friendship had began to blossom.
It was part of the reason why he'd made sure to get drinks at Joe's with him whilst he was in town for a few days. April was happy to stay at the hotel with Harriet, as Arizona was in New York now anyway and she figured she could catch up with everyone else at Grey Sloan in the morning.
"So...April and I are back together," Jackson states casually, taking a sip of his beer and bracing himself for his friend's reaction.
"Ha! I knew it!" The older guy responds loudly, clapping his hands together and grinning like an idiot.
Jackson frowns, "You already knew?" He wonders, for a moment, if April had already told everyone. He knew that, obviously, their daughter already knew, and that he'd told his mother (because Catherine Fox would've had a fit if she'd been the last person to find out, yet again), but they hadn't told that many other people yet - wanting to take things slowly for a change. They'd spent far too much of their relationship rushing and jumping in at the deep end, and it was important to them both that they didn't make that same mistake again.
"Nah, just knew it was bound to happen. Told you that years ago and you said I was out of my damn mind," Ben reminds him, causing him to flash back to a conversation they'd had shortly after the divorce. April was still pregnant with Harriet then, and Ben and Bailey had been busy fighting about his suspension, but for some reason, he'd told him 'You got it, you've got April' and it had thrown him for a loop. They'd only justgotten on good terms again at the time, so the prospect of reuniting someday did seem crazy. Never in his wildest dreams had he thought that she'd give him another chance, and yet, somehow, Ben just knew.
He not to roll his eyes as he thinks back on that time, and how Ben seemed to have enough hope for the both of them. He didn't want it to get to his head too much thought - the last thing the people of Seattle needed was for Ben Warren to act as an unofficial matchmaker. They had enough going on as it is. "Okay, yeah, you can say it. You told me so."
"I did tell you so." Ben chuckles, before adding earnestly, "I'm happy for you though. Both of you. You better give us an invite to the next wedding though, man."
"Thanks. Of course you'll get an invite when the time comes, but lets not get ahead of ourselves, yeah?" As much as Jackson knew that he'd marry April again in an instant (if not just for the sole purpose of being able to call her his wife again with pride, and to feel good every time he saw the glint of a giant diamond on her ring finger), he also knew that he didn't want to rush anything. It had to be perfect this time - it had to be everything that she'd dreamed of when she was a little girl, because she deserved that. She deserved it all, "I'll leave it up to you to tell Bailey, although knowing her, she's probably glad to be free of some of the drama."
"Oh, knowing Miranda, she a hundred percent already knows," He assures, because his wife knows everything - even when she doesn't want to know something, the universe would somehow find a way for her to know it.
Thinking back to his own experience working with the great Dr. Miranda Bailey, and how she somehow seemed to know everybody's business (despite the fact it clearly stressed her out to no end), he couldn't help but agree.
