Hello to all, this is Chapter 10 of the first Arc of Volume 6: Battle in Hueco Mundo!
Intro: The Earth... is a great place where humanity and all other creatures live and learn to evolve little by little, but this great world has Darkness in it too. Evil beings who wish to conquer this world and everyone.
Only one being stood against them to show everyone the power of light and hope, but this great mythical dragon wasn't able to stop them. He gave his powers and hope to a human that was known by his name, the Dragon Knight!
Before this hero also met his end, he gave the legendary Dragon Sword and his hopes and dreams to the next knight, his youngest son who is destined to become a legend by the sides of his comrades and his love. This hero... is the Dragon Knight of Light!

Volume 6: Chapter 10: Rematch against Fear! Fight for your friends, Jonouchi vs Yami Marik!
Previously in DKR:
As Ed's group catches up with some of the others, Nelliel engaged Nnoitra and at first overpowering him but Naruto and Ichigo got involved as she was leaking energy, still not fully healed. They would fight against the Espada until Grimmjow appeared with Orihime, shocking everyone. Grinning as Nnoitra is getting bodied; Grimmjow decided to help the group so he could have his rematch against Kurosaki. And it only became worse for Nnoitra as Tesla was destroyed with the arrival of Alicia and Ryan.
Forced into a corner, Nnoitra entered his Resurrección form to finally end the fight… but it was far too late that with Orihime's ability to restore anything back to what they were; Ichigo is back at full strength and Nelliel is fully restored. With Sage Mode at full strength, Naruto and the others began beating down the Espada , ending it with a combination of Rasenshuriken and Doble Cero.
However, Nnoitra still survived so Naruto finished the fight for good with the Supermassive Rasengan, defeating the Espada for good. Even so, the Espada survived but was put down by Grimmjow. The group won until Orihime was taken by Starrk, forcing Kurosaki to chase after them.
Meanwhile, Yugi's group is intercepted by Maximilian and Yami Marik which the Dragon Knight expected; readying to fight them.
What will happen next?

Running around to just re-find the damn exit, Mew Ichigo finally gets out of the tower and breathes heavily and irritated only to get madder to see the damn sand again
''Awwww…'' She complains, actually forgetting about the endless sand desert she's in and no clue where's east or west or anywhere. ''How the heck am I supposed to get of here now?!''
She looks around with a narrow, annoyed face before she blinks, seeing a bright light across the horizon. She hums as that's a better start than any to go there.
''Yea sure, going there Nya!'' The cat girl proclaims, running off in that direction.
A few minutes before she saw that light…
Yugi and his group are confronted by the enemy, surprised they found them so fast. Yugi isn't surprised, feeling them coming in the last moments.
"And we were careful avoiding conflict.'' Masaya proclaims, sounding irritated. Yugi wasn't so convinced; knowing the kind of man Aizen is.
''Riofu!'' Riolu barks upsetly, also assuming this would happen as they are within the enemy's lair. Skitty groans as she whines in soft purrs, nervously. ''Nyan…''
Yugi eyes the two and smiles, encouraging them. "Don't worry, I have a plan.'' Jenny narrows her eyes, wondering what his plan is.
''It's almost predictable that you came to save that woman.'' Maximilian speaks up with his arms crossed, not surprised the boy came to rescue her. Yugi groans, irritated, before telling him off. ''That woman is Ichigo-kun! And we came to save her!''
He narrows his eyes to Jenny's direction and orders her kindly. ''Nee-san, go with Riolu and Skitty! Take the others with you and find Ichigo-kun!''
Jenny understood that Riolu can also sense aura, having felt Ichigo's, and Skitty knows Ichigo's all too well. She also realized this whole walk in the desert is Yugi's way to lure these two out.
''Masaya, save Ichigo-kun!'' Yugi asks him, unsheathing and raising his Dragon Sword, pointing it at both villains, one-handed. Masaya eyes him, not liking the idea of leaving him to fight two dangerous foes until Yugi pleads once more, yelling as his eyes for a second glow red. ''Now go!''
Masaya eyes him and ultimately sighs; he soon nods. Jenny is about to protest until Maximilian speaks up, having none of this. ''None of you will leave.'' He soon dashes and comes at their back with an unseen slash only for Yugi to move and react, blocking and repelling the slash with his sword.
Maximilian startles heavily as Yugi responds with his own sword swing. The Arrancar immediately counters the swing but Yugi's swing actually pushes him back slightly. This shocks him, looking at the boy who proclaims calmly, raising his sword again one-handed.
''We both know I'm your only opponent.'' Yugi taunts him and Yami Marik with a small smirk. ''So at least try to be a threat to me, alright?''
Maximilian gazes annoyed, clearly seeing this is a distraction to let his friends to run away but Yami Marik snickers, proclaiming. ''Let him have it his way. It'll be much funnier hunting them down, one-by-one.'' As he licks his lips sadistically. Maximilian glares but agrees, also realizing that Yugi is stronger.
''… Come on.'' Jenny proclaims as she picks up Skitty, eyeing Yugi's back as she trusts him. ''My little brother has this.''
Masaya eyes him too and nods, vowing to him. ''Yugi, I'll save her. I promise.''
Yugi doesn't turn around, simply giving them a thumbs up with his left hand. With that, Jenny and Masaya run with Riolu running beside them, looking back at Yugi will win.
The Dragon Knight calms down a bit but only a little as Jonouchi, Anzu and Honda did not leave. He chuckles, rather upset as he says. ''Sometimes, I feel like you guys always ignore what I'm asking of you.''
Snickering at his comment, Honda proclaims acting tough. ''What can we say: We stick together!''
Yugi eyes them and smiles as he asks them. ''Stay back though, I can't let you guys get hurt because of me.''
Anzu nods as she declares smiling. ''We'll cheer on for you Yugi!'' The tricolor head nods, holding his sword forward at the two enemies.
''How adorable.'' Yami Marik comments with a smug smirk, looking excitedly as he taunts Yugi. ''Your weakness for your friends hasn't changed in the slightest. And that weakness will cost you.''
Yugi glares at him as Jonouchi barks madly while shaking his fist. ''Like hell that's a weakness! This is our bond; something you will never understand!''
Fed up with this, Jonouchi runs up next to Yugi and asks for his permission. ''Yugi, I got this psychopath.''
This shocks Yugi who immediately protests. ''You can't, Jonouchi-kun! You-'' He begins to remind him what happened last time but Jonouchi smiles, ensuring him. ''Trust me, I do! And that's why I gotta be the one to do it.''
Yugi looks at him worryingly but he knows Jonouchi will just jump in regardless.
"... It never stopped you before." He proclaims, trusting in Jonouchi as he approaches Maximilian. "Beat him, Jonouchi-kun!" Jonouchi smiles, not going to fail him.
Yami Marik sees this and chuckles ominously towards the darkened blond head. ''Kekeke… How amusing. You wish to die for real, Jonouchi?'' He questions his naïve, stupid decision.
Jonouchi glares madly as he begins to tell him. ''I don't have supernatural powers like you have but I know you better than anyone. You rather see me suffer while I try to keep fighting so you can enjoy seeing me perish.''
The twisted villain chuckles again, impressive that he knows him so well. ''Probably.'' He replies like it doesn't bother me. Jonouchi sees through this and proclaims, raising his Duel Disk as he smirks. ''Then duel me unless of course you're chicken.''
This causes Yami Marik to just laugh at his pathetic taunt but it sure got his attention. ''Me? Afraid of you? Pathetic.'' He begins to protest before he grins excitedly. ''You remember the last time we dueled?''
''…'' Jonouchi is silent, having a serious stare with narrow eyes. Anzu and Honda worry as they know that he remembers it.
''I remember it.'' He answers but not until he adds, trying to smirk. ''But I also remember me almost beating you.''
Immediately, Yami Marik starts to frown angrily. He remembers that all too well. Jonouchi smirks again, calling him out again. ''I bet that still pisses you off.''
''…'' Now being the quiet, Yami Marik has a moment to think before he cracks a smirk. ''Fine then, Jonouchi.'' He manifests a Duel Disk as he raises his arm forward with a deck he had to reconstruct. ''I'll gladly let you relive the horror you experience all those years ago.''
Jonouchi gulps, reaching into his backpack and pulls out his Duel Disk. He straps it on, sliding on his Duel Disk.
''Jonouchi…'' Honda utters worryingly as Anzu looks very concerned if not frightened. Jonouchi doesn't face his friends, not wanting them to worry about him as he just says confidently. ''Guys, I got this. Yugi is counting on me.''
Maximilian scoffs at his statement as he gazes coldly at Yugi and tells him calmly. ''Your friend should be more concerned about his own life than for you.''
Yugi looks at him with a firm stare before he declares. ''I can handle you and protect them. This just takes time from saving Ichigo-kun.'' He holds his Dragon Sword with hands, readying himself. ''So I'll trust in Jonouchi-kun to beat the evil Marik-kun and I beat you down, Maximilian-kun.''
Maximilian looks down at him, vowing as he unsheathes his sword. ''This time I will kill you.'' He comes at him but Yugi easily parries and counters his unseen swing, sparks flying out between their colliding blades.
Honda watches this, feeling more helpless but that hasn't stopped him from cheering on for both of them. ''Go kick butt, both of you!''
''Yugi, Jonouchi…'' Anzu mutters, looking at one side and the other before she frowns and shouts passionately that they come out of this okay. ''WIN!''
Yugi smirks as does Jonouchi, activating his Duel Disk. Yami Marik smirked evilly, looking forward to this.
''Duel!'' Jonouchi and Yami Marik shout, commencing their duel. Anzu and Honda watch with concern as this is a duel Jonouchi can't underestimate his foe again
Duel Screen: Katsuya Jonouchi: 4000LP vs. Yami Marik: 4000LP
Yugi watches, dodging around Maximilian's attacks to see Jonouchi about to engage a foe he nearly died once years ago.
''Believe in him, partner.'' Yugi turns halfway towards Atem, pleading with him to trust in him. He looks at him and smiles nodding.''I do…'' He then frowns, expressing himself.''I'm just worried what he'll do to Jonouchi-kun.''
Atem eyes him and understands his worries. After all, the evil of Marik is a sadist and dangerously smart. Right now, Yugi can only put his trust in Jonouchi as he clashes against Maximilian.
Jonouchi draws his 5 cards as does Yami Marik, snickering evilly as he asks his foolish opponent. ''Since you challenge me, I go first no?''
''Fine by me!'' Jonouchi tells him off, hesitant a bit.
Duel Screen: Turn 1_ Jonouchi: 4000LP H: 5 / Yami Marik: 4000LP H: 5
He draws his top card, grinning wildly as he announces. ''I begin with this old face. I summon Gil Garth!''
Appearing, it is the metal-like fiend monsters with a bladed weapon.
Gil Garth Lvl 4 ATK: 1800 DEF: 1200
Jonouchi, Anzu and Honda all startled that he summoned that monster, the very same way back years ago in the first turn of their last duel.
''Turn end.'' Yami Marik proclaims confidently, finishing his turn without setting any cards.
Duel Screen: Turn 2_ Jonouchi: 4000LP H: 5 / Yami Marik: 4000LP H: 5
''My turn!'' Jonouchi shouts, drawing his top card. He eyes his options but his anxieties are the single monster on the field with no protection.
''Why would he only summon a single monster?'' He questions, recalling the last duel Yugi had with him on Battle City V3. Maybe he has a card that can be activated from his hand? Maybe. It actually makes Jonouchi afraid to make any play.
''I gotta be careful and just figure out what-'' He begins to suggest, reaching for a card to summon in Defense Position… and that's when Jonouchi immediately stops himself. Again, it's his first strategy way back in their last duel. He did the same thing and it cost him. He tried to play defensively, filled with a desire to win no matter what to avenge Mai… and he lost. He never understood. He was so close but what cost him was both Marik's Duel of Darkness game and his own cautiousness towards his opponent. If he played like he dueled normally, maybe… he could have won sooner.
''No, I can't do that again.'' He tells himself, realizing his downfall all those years ago and right now he can't make the same mistake. He must duel the way he duels, telling himself. ''I have to duel the way only I can duel, not the other way around!''
He pauses, thinking of what Mai told him and nods. Letting out a calm breath, Jonouchi soon declares with a fiery gaze. ''Here I come, Marik!''
This surprises Yami Marik as Jonouchi proceeds by playing a card. ''First I activate the spell, Foolish Burial! I send a Monster from my Deck to the Graveyard.''
He sends a monster but Yami Marik could glimpse for a moment it was an Effect Monster with 2400 ATK. Could it be-
''Next I activate the spell, Unexpected Dai! With this, I can Special Summon a Level 4 Normal Monster from my Deck!'' Jonouchi then plays another spell from his Deck as a card pops out and picks the right monster for the job. ''I summon an old face, Alligator's Sword!''
Appearing in the alligator warrior monster. Yami Marik hisses, remembering that it was the same monster he summoned first in their Duel all those years ago, but this time it feels different.
''I now activate the spell, Reasoning!'' Jonouchi then plays another spell as he explains. ''You have to declare a number between 1 to 12 and then I excavate from the top of my Deck until I draw a monster and if the Level of the monster is the number you declared, it's sent to the Graveyard. But if it isn't, I can Special Summon it!''
Honda nods firmly, really like that with Anzu sweat dropping since the evil Marik will pick the obvious Level that might be summoned.
''Hehe…'' Snickering as he knows what number to pick, Yami Marik declares it. ''I declare 7.''
Jonouchi begins to excavate cards, all of them Spell or Trap Cards until the fourth is a monster: Rocket Warrior.
Smirking, Jonouchi calls forth. ''Yosh! I summon Rocket Warrior!'' The rocket half warrior monster appears on his field.
Rocket Warrior Lvl 4 ATK: 1500 DEF: 1300
''Now I summon Red-Eyes Baby Dragon!'' Jonouchi now summons the Red-Eyes version of Baby Dragon to his field.
Red-Eyes Baby Dragon Lvl 3 ATK: 1200 DEF: 900
''Battle!'' Jonouchi then begins to commence his Battle Phase as he thrusts his left fist forward. ''Red-Eyes Baby Dragon, attack Gil Garth!''
This causes the now Arrancar to make a surprise expression as the black scaled baby dragon lets out a soft growl, opening its fang and charges up flames in between its mouth.
''Dark Dragon Breath!'' Jonouchi commands as the dragon breathes its small flame mouth attack at Yami Marik's monster.
''Naïve!'' Yami Marik shouts with Gil Garth dashing through the weak flames with its blade and then proceeds to slash down the dragon, destroying it. Jonouchi takes 600 damage but he smirks.
''You think I did that on purpose?'' He asks his opponent who makes a face and then he explains it. ''Red-Eyes Baby Dragon's effect, when destroyed by battle, lets me Special Summon a Level 7 or lower Red-Eyes monster from my Deck and then my destroyed monster is equipped to that summoned monster.''
He searches through his Deck and summons his monster. ''Come out, Red-Eyes Archfiend of Lightning!''
Appearing onto his field is the Red-Eyes version of Summoned Skull, letting out the same powerful shriek.
Red-Eyes Archfiend of Lightning Lvl 6 ATK: 2500 DEF: 1200
''Archfiend of Lightning gains 300 ATK from Baby Dragon's equipped effect.'' He then explains as his monster's ATK goes up to 2800. He then commands his summoned monster. ''Red-Eyes Archfiend of Lightning attack!''
The demon roars, its piercing red eyes glowing as dark red lightning sparks across its body.
''Dark Demon Lightning!'' Jonouchi shouts as the demon unleashes the lightning right at Gil Garth and destroys it. Yami Marik braces himself, taking 1000 of damage.
This surprises Honda and Anzu as they realize that the evil Marik has an open field with no set cards and Jonouchi has 2 monsters with enough combined ATK to take him out.
''Is he actually-'' Anzu begins to ask but Honda yells excitedly. "HIT HIM BUDDY!"
Jonouchi smiles, not needing to be told twice as he begins to order his last monsters. ''Alligator's Sword, Rocket Warrior!'' Both monsters get into position and charge forward. ''Double Direct Attack! Glide Sword! Invincible Rocket!''
Rocket Warrior turns into its rocket form while Alligator's Sword comes charging, extending forward its sword. They're so close to Marik that Honda shouts passionately. ''HE WON!''
Yugi watches this for a brief moment and staggers by the grinning face Yami Marik has.
''So you think?'' He begins to question that as he grabs a card in his hand and proclaims. ''Whenever I take damage, I can summon this card from my hand.''
This shocks everyone as he calls forth. ''Come forth, Guardian Slime!'' Appearing is a slime-like monster resembling the Egyptian God, Anubis.
Guardian Slime Lvl 10 ATK: 0 DEF: 0
''So close…'' Honda utters in defeat that Jonouchi could have won. Jonouchi wasn't surprised; it felt way too easy.
''No problem! Alligator's Sword, attack!'' Jonouchi commands as his monster charges forward. It swings the sword and slashes the slime until the same slime reshapes to resemble Alligator's Sword and blocks the sword strike with its slime sword. This startles Jonouchi while Yami Marik laughs ominously, explaining. ''Guardian Slime's effect increases its DEF equal to your battling monster's ATK during that damage calculation only. However, I could only that once per turn.''
''Then Rocket Warrior, attack!'' Jonouchi then commands as Rocket Warrior charges forward like a rocket and pierces through Guardian Slime, destroying it.
Yami Marik snickers as he then reveals. ''Now Guardian Slime's last effect lets me add a certain type of card from my Deck to my hand.'' He adds his card from his Deck, smirking.
Jonouchi groans, eyeing his hand and proclaims, setting a card behind his monsters. ''I set a card face-down. Turn end.''
''So really close.'' Honda mutters, thinking how close Jonouchi was. Anzu agrees but also states concerned by Jonouchi's limited hand. ''And worst he used up a lot of combos to get that far.''
Duel Screen: Turn 3_ Jonouchi: 3400LP H: 1 / Yami Marik: 3000LP H: 5
''At the least, Jonouchi doesn't need to worry about those stupid Game of Darkness rules.'' Honda then points out, relief there is no "take physical damage" twisted game the evil Marik cost such pain to his buddy.
However, Yami Marik overhears that and smirks. ''Oh yes, I almost forgot.'' He begins to chuckle as he forgets. ''Let me show you my new powers.''
Suddenly darkness forms around them like a fog, panicking Jonouchi with Honda making a terrific face.
''On top of my slime form, I can adapt the powers of the Game of Darkness against my opponents.'' Yami Marik explains with a smirk. ''Of course it's damn tricky since the conditions don't or will not work but in a duel however…'' As he says in this part, pink energy ropes shoot out from Jonouchi's monsters and connect them onto Jonouchi's chest.
''Oh shit!'' Jonouchi utters in horror with Yami Marik replying excitedly. ''OH YES! These energy soul strings are connected to each monster we control. And whatever pain our monster goes through, we also receive the damage to us too.''
Jonouchi makes a dreaded face, already recalling all the pain he was inflicted by this stupid rule.
''You damn sick of a-'' He begins to curse out at the evil Marik until he wags his finger, interrupting. ''Now-now, I told you didn't I?'' He makes a twisted smirk, proclaiming with a deep, ominous voice. ''I would make you re-experience all the pain you went long ago.''
Jonouchi beats a sweat, not liking this one bit.
Yami Marik eyes his hand and he can't help but snicker. ''Kukuku…'' He then licks his lips with a psycho grin. ''I look forward to making you suffer even more than before. MY TURN!''
He draws his top card as he then summons a monster. ''I summon Reactor Slime!'' Appearing is a monster with a similar appearance as Jam Breeding Machine but with gray slime taking the form of limps and a bladed slime arm.
Reactor Slime Lvl 4 ATK: 500 DEF: 500
Jonouchi makes a face, finding the monster so weak but it doesn't change how he doesn't like it.
''Battle and I use Reactor Slime's effect!'' Yami Marik then announces, entering his Battle Phase and triggering his monster's effect. ''By releasing it, I can set Metal Reflect Slime from my Deck to my field.''
His monster leaves the field as a set card manifests on his field.
''Now I enter my Main Phase 2 to activate Metal Reflect Slime!'' He then proclaims, triggering his set card. Appearing out of the trap is a massive spike ball-like monster.
Metal Reflect Slime Lvl 10 ATK: 0 DEF: 3000
''Fine, I can beat a 3000-'' Jonouchi begins to say, confident he will beat this 3000 DEF wall with Jinzo or something similar however Yami Marik literally laughs at his assumption, proclaiming. ''Hahaha! Let me show you how wrong you are!'' He raises his right arm forward. ''By releasing a Level 10 Aqua monster with 0 ATK, this monster can be summoned from my Extra Deck.''
The slime monster begins to reshape and reform, becoming larger and muscular while keeping its slime-like substance.
''Now appear, Egyptian God Slime!'' Yami Marik calls forth as his slime has taken the form and appearance of Giant God Soldier of Obelisk.
Egyptian God Slime Lvl 10 ATK: 3000 DEF: 3000
Jonouchi stares with his jaw dropping.
''Ah goddamn it…'' Honda utters just as shocked with Anzu pointing out in horror. ''It's the same monster Atem fought long ago!''
''And it still looks like Obelisk.'' Jonouchi also says, recalling how this monster took the image of Obelisk in Yugi's duel against him in the first Battle City.
''I set 2 cards face-down.'' Yami Marik announces, setting two cards behind his massive slime before ending his turn. ''Turn end.''

"My turn!'' Jonouchi shouts, drawing his top card. He eyes it and proceeds to Gemini Summon. ''I Gemini Summon Red-Eyes Archfiend of Lightning!''
The demonic Red-Eyes shrieks, gaining its full power.
Red-Eyes Archfiend of Lightning Lvl 6 ATK: 2500 DEF: 1200
''Reverse trap open, Path of the Dark!'' Yami Marik, grinning as he was waiting for a summon, announces as one of his set cards flips over. It shows the image of an eerie dark narrowed path showing multiple glowing monstrous eyes within the shadows.
''I can Special Summon a number of DARK monsters from my Deck in Defense Position to match the same number of monsters you control.'' Yami Marik explains with a smirk, grabbing his two monsters and summons them. ''I Special Summon Bowganian and Drillago!"
Appearing is the metal spiked fiend with crossbow and multi-drill humanoid machine.
Bowganian Lvl 3 ATK: 1300 DEF: 1000
Drillago Lvl 4 ATK: 1600 DEF: 1100
''However, you draw a card for each monster I summon.'' He then reveals with a smirk, not caring if he draws extra cards. Jonouchi draws 2 cards, eyeing them and then proclaims with a smirk. ''Oh yea well big mistake! I use Red-Eyes Archfiend of Lightning's effect! It destroys all monsters you control with DEF lower than its ATK.''
The archfiend howls as it releases violent red lightning towards the evil Marik's monsters.
''Have a taste!'' Jonouchi shouts, thinking he'll wipe out those monsters but Yami Marik smirks as he triggers his other set card. ''Reverse Continuous Trap open, Invalidate! This trap protects my monsters from being destroyed by your card effects.''
The trap forms a barrier to block the lightning to Jonouchi's annoyance.
''I can still attack! Battle!'' He proclaims, entering his Battle Phase. ''Rocket Warrior, attack Bowganian.''
Rocket Warrior enters into rocket mode, flying at top speed at the crossbow fiend until the slime claw hand of Egyptian God Slime intercepts the attack.
''NANI?!'' Jonouchi yells out in a shocking expression. This causes Yami Marik to burst into laughter. ''HAHAHA! Surprised?!''
He then explains his slime's effect. ''Egyptian God Slime not only cannot be destroyed by battle but it also intercepts your attacks and card effects that target any of my monsters to itself. This is the Ultimate God Defense!''
Jonouchi grunts annoyed, meaning none of his attacks can touch him with that slime on the field. However, he didn't take any damage thankfully.
''Thanks to Rocket Warrior's effect, Jonouchi saved himself from losing any damage.'' Honda explains what happened, glad his buddy didn't take any more damage. Egyptian God Slime did lose 500 ATK temporarily which caused pain to Marik due to the rope linking to his monster… but he just grins, loving this pain.
''Forgot this psychopath is also a masochist.'' Jonouchi comments to himself, sweat dropping. He then sets a card and declares, switching the position of one of his monsters. ''I switch Alligator's Sword to Defense Position and then I set 1 card face-down. My turn is over.''
''During the End Phase, Invalidate is destroyed!'' Yami Marik then proclaims with a smirk as his trap shatters and then proclaims with a smirk. ''Path of the Dark's other effect causes each of your monster to lose 200 for each DARK monster I control.''
Suddenly all of Jonouchi's monsters are shocked by a violent dark electricity and all of their pain is linked and zaps Jonouchi too, screaming in agony. ''GGAAAAWWW!''
"HAHAHAHAHA!" Yami Marik laughs like a hyena, watching this with such glee across his face. Anzu and Honda are forced to watch this with such heartbreak, not able to do anything just like back then. Jonouchi soon drops to one knee, breathing heavily. This pain is the same as back then, able to remember it all too well and still hating this.
''I… hate… this… again…'' He utters out weakly, really despising this.
''Yes, enjoy the pain!'' Yami Marik expresses with such a sadistic smile, wanting to fix his past mistake and make sure he suffers and dies. ''Because my next turn will be when you'll die, Jonouchi.''
Jonouchi glares, unaware of Marik's plan and surprise for him.
Will Jonouchi be able to counter what Marik might have in plan?
Commercial Break:
Jonouchi: I don't care how much scarier your deck is, I'm going to beat you once and for all!
Yugi: You can do this Jonouchi-kun. Remember to trust in yourself and you won't lose.
Still clashing, Yugi and Maximilian engage as their blades grind at the other. The evolved Arrancar moves in fast with his superior speed but Yugi repels and intercepts his attacks. He glares as he vanishes through Sonido to appear on his back and swings his sword only for his blade to be stopped by Yugi's sword who moves his arm towards his back; blocking the hit coming at him.
This shocks Maximilian, proceeding to swing again but Yugi spins around, redirecting his opponent's swing to the side and also swings his Dragon Sword at his chest. Maximilian was forced to dodge it, startled that just happened. How could this be? How could his base form be a match to this form when his Burst Limit wasn't a match?
The duel also continues as it is Yami Marik's field and has the perfect hand to annihilate this pest once and for all.
Honda smirks as Jonouchi has a lead but Anzu is uneasy, knowing how dangerous the evil Marik is.

''My turn.'' Yami Marik declares, drawing his top card. He eyes it with a look of excitement before he announces as he enters his Standby Phase. ''Bowganian's effect inflicts 600 of damage to you!''
Bowganian takes aim with its crossbow and fires a deathly purple arrow beam that hits through Jonouchi, vanishing but the impact felt all too real.
''GAAAH!'' Jonouchi gasps in pain, moving backwards as his Life Points drop to 2800. He grips on his chest, actually feeling that as Yami Marik explains with a small grin. ''I forgot to mention you also take damage from effects.''
Honda growls, wanting so badly to punch this ass.
''I activate the spell, Ancient Chant!'' Yami Marik then announces, activating another unknown spell as a card pops out from his Deck. ''I add a certain monster from my Deck to my hand.''
He adds his monster, curling his lips into a smirk. He then summons another monster. ''Next I summon Dark Jeroid!''
The vile fiend monster appears on his field.
Dark Jeroid Lvl 4 ATK: 1200 DEF: 1600
''Dark Jeroid's effect targets a monster you control and makes it lose 800 of ATK!'' He then announces with a smug smirk. ''I choose your Archfiend of Lightning!''
The monster releases energy tentacles right towards Jonouchi's monster, zapping it violently and this causes Jonouchi to receive his monster's pain too. ''GAAAH!'' It drops to 1600 ATK.
Yami Marik laughs excitedly as he then announces. ''Now I banish Ancient Chant to use its final effect and then with it, I release my 3 weaker monsters!''
All 3 of his monsters vanish as the evil Marik then crosses his arms with a smirk. Jonouchi immediately turns pale, realizing what he's doing.
"Great beast of the sky, please hear my cry. Transform thyself from orb of light and bring me victory in this fight. Envelop the desert with your glow and cast your rage upon my foe.'' Yami Marik begins to chant to all three's terror. Even Yugi, managing to overhear him with a shocking expression.
''No-no-no…'' Honda begins saying in panic.
Soon a massive, golden sphere manifests above him, glowing.
''Unlock your powers from deep within so that together we may win.'' He then chants as the sphere begins to open up like a puzzle cube. ''Appear in this Duel of Darkness as I call out your name, Winged God Dragon of Ra!"
Reshaping to reveal its true form, it is the strongest Egyptian God as it releases a vicious cry.
''Ra…'' Jonouchi mutters with such terror in his voice, not believing this.
Winged God Dragon of Ra Lvl 10 ATK: ? DEF: ?
Anzu and Honda also have the same expression of dread by this horrific summon.
''Another proxy of Ra.'' Yugi comments, recalling how Rashid used a fake Ra and then there was the Darkness version of Ra. Atem, though, is concerned that the real Ra has yet to react to the fake, even stating it. ''Then why hasn't the original responded to the fake?''
This also gets Yugi worried but he can't do anything about it, dodging around Maximilian's swings and then backs away fast.
Yami Marik snickers, first thanked by the Dark Lord and now Aizen for making a new fake Ra based on his design.
''Your friends can tell Yugi that this copy of Ra is using my new powers to keep it hidden from the original.'' He explains how he has a new Ra though it came with a price unlike Darkness Ra. ''However, I had to make this Ra so much weaker that it lost nearly all of its abilities.''
''Well… that's good for me!'' Jonouchi awkwardly proclaims. However, Yami Marik just laughs at his assumption before he reveals with a twisted grin. ''HAHAHA! YOU THINK! Thanks to Ancient Chant, the ATK and DEF of my tributed monsters are added to Ra and now I pay all but 100 of my Life Points to add them to Ra's ATK!''
Jonouchi looks stunned. Yami Marik continues laughing as his body dissolves, merging with Ra as he leaves behind a single floating eye and the rest of his body appearing on top of the fake Ra's head. ''Hahaha… HAHAHAHA!'' Ra shoots up from 4100 and goes higher to 7000 ATK.
Jonouchi then makes a face, not expecting that thing to be this massive already.
''I set 1 card face-down and then I switch Egyptian God Slime to attack position.'' He proclaims as his slimes goes into the offensive as a set card manifests behind it. He now erupts in dark laughs, commanding. ''BATTLE! NOW SUFFER THE WRATH OF RA!''
Ra roars, charging up flames in between its fangs, aiming towards Jonouchi's weakened monster with a mere 1900 ATK. He can only sweat in terror as the evil Marik orders with a malicious grin. ''ATTACK! GOD BLAZE CANNON!''
The fake Ra fully charges up and fires a devastating mouth fire blast upon Jonouchi's monster, consuming them both instantly.
''JONOUCHI!'' Both Anzu and Honda shout out in horror, powerless as they can only watch and listen to Yami Marik's laughter.
Yugi glimpses a look, worrying but he has to trust in Jonouchi… but it doesn't change how scared he is for him.
"I hate this fucking desert.'' Traveling across this everlasting desert for too long already, Kojan curses out enraged with a look of annoyance. He was suddenly teleported here by that Shadow Knight to help Yugi when he clearly didn't wish to help him. He has Madara to deal with and this is not helping him.
He had to walk what felt like weeks (it was a day) across that sunless desert to infiltrate this fortress and still see more sand across this endless dimension.
''Didn't even give me a freaking water bottle to drink from.'' The Uchiha complains, actually getting thirsty. He scoffs, frowning firmly as he says. ''Damn that Shadow Knight. Why the hell does he seem to know me?''
They had met like a few weeks before Yugi became a Dragon Knight and yet even then; he knew how he thought. Kojan was ordered by his mentor to deal with the Dragon Knight, planning to once he learned and if he learned Burst Limit. He did and was planning to deal with him but Shadow Knight didn't let him; simply saying that their fight will be decided when the time was right.
That always puzzled him; why interfere with his master's order, no less getting in their way.
''Why does he care so much for helping Yugi? Or getting me involved.'' Kojan questions stomped, thinking deep about it. If Shadow Knight's true goal is to help Yugi; wouldn't stopping him from fighting him be the wiser choice. No. There has to be something more than-
His thoughts are quickly interrupted as an explosion is seen across the horizon. He scoffs, looking forward and he can sense someone even though this place is blocking his senses.
''Tch. No time to question things now.'' He proclaims, focusing deeper and he can sense him; Yugi. ''So he's here already.''
Immediately, Kojan dashes forward across the sand. Maybe now he will settle things with him but something is off; Yugi's energy feels different than before.
Mew Ichigo continues running to that direction of that light and stops in her tracks, catching a scent. She smelled deeply and her eyes widened.
''That scent…'' She utters out before she forms a bright smile; hoping that direction was where he could be and she's spot on. She runs faster in that direction, shouting out joyfully. ''I'm coming, Yugi-kun!''
A moment that Jonouchi was with Mai last night in her sports car, both just talking but he wasn't planning to tell her of the plan of everyone helping Yugi to save Ichigo. He… he didn't want her to get worried and things would be awkward if he doesn't come back. Mai, to his shock, asked him. ''Okay, enough about my cool car. So, you guys are off to save Momomiya tomorrow?''
Jonouchi nearly fell back on his chair, not good to hide those feelings as he uttered in dismay. ''How the hell did you-'' He paused and realized who told her. ''… Shizuka told you, didn't she?''
''Your sister just worries.'' Mai said in a fake, uncaring tone; smiling as Shizuka cares too much for her big brother. And she did too, frowning as she began to advise him. ''… Don't think about saving her like you did with me, against Marik.''
''… Anzu can't keep one damn secret!'' Jonouchi cursed out angrily that Anzu even told her. Mai just smiled softly, not going to tell him that it was actually Erika who told her. She was too worried for him.
She stops and parks the car on a spot so the two can talk better. She looked at him, hesitant, as she recalled her events with DOMA, surrendering to her demons and to the power of the Orichalcos and it was Jonouchi who went through hell and back to wake her up from that hole she was in.
''… This makes me realize how much of a fool I was back then, wanting power than trusting and reaching out to a hand who does care for me.'' She began to tell him something that she should have told him a long time ago, thinking this will be the best motivator for him though she hesitated to admit these feelings. ''I… I should have realized it was you who was trying to save me from that hell.''
Jonouchi frowned a bit, thinking back how bad that whole situation was. He understood Mai's motives; she felt inferior and still damaged by what the other Marik did to her. He didn't blame her.
Sighing, Mai looks at him directly in his eyes, showing softness that most men would want to see the beautiful Mai Kujaku would have loved to see and she was doing so to the one guy who taught her something valuable.
''… Jonouchi, duel and fight like you always do; an idiot who proves his odds are his to make.'' Mai asked him, smiling as she wanted him to duel the way he did to save her with no doubt or overthinking. ''Act like yourself and I'm sure- No, I know that no one can ever beat you.''
Jonouchi looked at her and just smiled, nodding. If she's asking him to act reckless then he has no reason not to do it.
Mai smiled as she looked nervous and began to utter. ''I well… I want to tell you something and if I don't tell you now, I might never will.''
He made a face as the environment began to feel awkward and weird. He looks at her, looking away with a blushing face like she was about to say something that there will be no going back. His chest pressed and his heart beaten louder than usual.
Taking a moment to reflect, Mai nodded as she began to say. ''Jonouchi, I-''
''Tell me when I come back with everyone.'' Mai staggered with awkward blinking at Jonouchi's response. He smiled confidently like a charming action hero as he then said. ''That way I have a reason to come back and keep my promise.''
He got out of the car and declared with a thumbs up. ''Later, Mai!'' He ran off in a hurry, his confidence draining with a face of terror and panic. He was NOT ready for this, hopefully he will after this but right now NO.
Mai still blinked before she cracked a smirk and scoffed playfully. ''Still an idiot.'' She soon smiled sad, hoping she can tell what she feels for him when they come back.
Yami Marik watches with a grin as Ra's attack will kill this pest, ensuring his win.
''Hahaha, easy-'' He begins to say that he's won until Jonouchi's voice shouts loudly. ''Like hell! Trap Card open, Nutrient Z!''
This staggers the Arrancar as a light shines through the flames of the fake Ra's attack, revealing Jonouchi still standing.
''When I take 2000 or more damage, I gain 4000 Life Points!'' He explains as his trap forms a barrier to temporarily protect him. His Life Points shoot up to 6800.
Not wanting to risk it, Jonouchi triggers his other set card. ''Plus I activate my other set card, Roll of Life!''
The card flips over, showing the image of an angelic fairy throwing a white, golden dotted die. That same creature manifests as Jonouchi reveals its effect. ''I release Rocket Warrior and then I toss a six-sided die! Depending on the roll that lands, I gain Life Points equal to the number of the result x100 and then times the Level of the release monster!''
Rocket Warrior vanishes as its energy enters the die and the fairy tosses it. It rolls forward a few times before stopping at 3.
''3! So 300x4!'' Jonouchi begins to say, already doing the math. He gains 1200 LP, with his current total being 8000 and then he says. "Plus any damage I take is halved this turn!"
The attack proceeds, consuming Red-Eyes Archfiend of Lightning, destroying it as Jonouchi screams in agony. ''AAAAAHHHHH!''
He is blasted off his feet, crashing backwards before slammed face forward on the ground. Burned steam is what is left by Ra's devastating attack.
Honda gags in utter horror with Anzu trying to be the calm one. Yami Marik looks down at the unmovable Jonouchi, already declaring with a smirk. ''He's dead. The fool couldn't withstand Phoenix's form.'' His grin widens more. ''It's over. Now to have my way with Yugi and show him his dead-''
''S-Shut up…'' Yami Marik's grin becomes an expression of shock. He looks down to see Jonouchi stirring up, partly burned but still conscious. Honda and Anzu sigh with relief as Jonouchi pulls himself up, breathing heavily. He felt the damage but Roll of Life protected him from real damage too. He would have taken 5400 but instead he took 2700 of damage. Now his Life Points sit at 5300.
Brushing off the dirt and some burned steam off his jacket, Jonouchi begins to say, annoyed with his voice still shaken up from the damage. ''Y-You're a dumbass if you think I've gotten weak since then.''
He's seen his share of real pain, especially from the kicks of a certain cat.
''I took kicks from some cat who fell in love with one of my best buddy.'' Jonouchi begins to say, scoffing that he should be thanking Ichigo of all people and yet it doesn't change how much he prefers Anzu with his best buddy.
''To tell you the truth, I'm pissed at Anzu getting cold feet because of her affection towards Atem and Yugi's own concerns…'' Jonouchi then begins to express, recalling how those two were happy together but that changes when he sees Yugi with Ichigo and the two get along deeply. He then smiles, admitting. ''But Momomiya has grown on me. She's way too damn peppy, way too happy and way too passionate but Yugi loves that about her because they're the same.''
Anzu sweat drops but blushes, glad to know that Jonouchi thinks the same about Ichigo and well… she knew he was the most upset about her and Yugi's relationship.
''If there is one person, one single person to understand Yugi better than himself; it's her. I know that Momomiya can see the real Yugi better than anyone else!'' Jonouchi begins to say, admitting how Ichigo is the best for Yugi even if she gets under his nerves; she has grown onto him too. ''As annoying she is, I-''
Irritated by listening to this nonsense, Yami Marik immediately commands his other monster. ''Egyptian God Slime, attack!''
The giant slime appears with a powerful fist similar to Obelisk's God Hand Crusher, destroying Alligator's Sword.
''GAAW!'' Jonouchi screams, feeling his monster's pain as he hits the ground hard by the impact. Honda growls madly at that jackass ruining that moment. Yami Marik snickers evilly.
''That should shut you-'' He begins to proclaim only to be silent by Jonouchi, pulling himself back up again, resumes saying seriously. ''I-I won't let you bastards get away… with separating those two away from the other!''
Yami Marik frowns with gritting teeth as he then follows his turn, playing a spell. ''I now activate the spell, Card of Sanctity! Now we draw until we have 6 cards in our hand.''
Both duelists draw until they have 6 cards each but Jonouchi frowns, only drawing 2 cards due to Red-Eyes Baby Dragon already adding a card in his hand. Can't be helped.
''I set 3 cards face-down!'' Yami Marik proclaims, setting 3 more cards behind his monsters before ending his turn. ''Turn end.''
Jonouchi groans, adjusting himself as he needs to find the turnaround in this duel or else this all would be pointless.
While the duel continues, Yugi is in his sword clash against Maximilian. Sparks fly out between their swords as Maximilian cannot understand how that mere, non-power comrade of the boy is foolish to fight that psychopath.
''To think non-power humans could be this annoying.'' He comments on irritation, finding that pointless Yugi, however, smiles, watching Jonouchi begin to make his counterattack on Marik. In fact, he might have beaten him.
''That's where you underestimate others. Anyone is capable of doing anything, power or not!'' Yugi begins to lecture the former Imperial prince-king, reminding him of that lesson from long ago. ''But it's through others, banded together, that one truly becomes stronger!''
Maximilian has heard enough, charging at him with another swing but Yugi just dodges it to his shock. He looks at the Arrancar before he swings a kick that sends Maximilian away from him.
''Time I stop holding back too, for the sake of my friends.'' Yugi then proclaims, raising his sword forward and utters out, moving his left hand across his flat side of the blade of his sword and then shouts. ''Rising Limit!''
The Dragon Sword suddenly glows and morphs quickly. Instead of the half-size claymore greatsword; the sword has become a long, cone spiral lance bladed sword. He twirls the lance around before he declares, raising it forward. ''Level up, Dragon Slayer!''
Honda and Anzu see this and are speechless by the change of its appearance.
Yugi soon charges forward, thrusting his lance at Maximilian who dodges it… only to panic as his side of his cheek that evaded the attack is cut. Yugi swings again but this time the Arrancar backs away just barely. He grunts as Yugi charges, swinging his lance sword with insane rapid speed that Maximilian is forced to parry each swing before he's further pushed backwards. He can't believe how precise his strikes are too.
Maximilian is baffled by this if not worry. The second form of his Dragon Sword was never this. What did he do to alter his powers?!
Yugi watches him before he twirls his weapon and charges at him again. Maximilian wouldn't let him any advantages as he shouts, raising his left arm forward. ''ESCUDO DEL EMPERADOR!'' A shine forms and manifests his spiritual-life energy shield.
The Dragon Knight looks at that and smirks, gripping his weapon as swirls of energy wraps around his lance sword, becoming golden energy until it becomes the form of a spiral lance.
''My new move! DRAGONAUN LANCER!'' Yugi shouts, thrusting his enhanced sword at the shield and clashes; sparks flying out from them but Yugi's attack actually pierces through the shield to Maximilian's dismay. He tries to guard with his hardest but the energy enhanced lance shatters through his shield.
This shocks the Arrancar with Honda shouting astonished. ''He dissolved the shield!''
Gritting madly, Maximilian tries swinging his sword at him now that Yugi can't- He suddenly widens his eyes as Yugi grabs the wrist of his sword hand and tosses him 90° degrees away. He then spins around towards his direction and shouts, thrusting his lance at him. ''DRAGON SPIRAL SLASH!'' The energy of the lance morphs into a drill and hits Maximilian directly.
''GAHHH…!'' He screams as he uses Sonido to dash backwards and then fires a Cero at him. Stomping his foot forward, Yugi still thrusts his spiraling striking attack at the energy beam and connects, shattering and dissolving it too before the energy of his attacks vanishes from his sword lance.
Maximilian looks at this with dismay and horror, not possible that he's able to fight him to such a degree without his Burst Limit. Not only that but he's improved in his skills and swordsmanship to even wield this different weapon in such a way.
''It's only been a few weeks…'' He begins to question the time of when he was losing to now; not possible that Yugi would grow this fast in such a short period. ''How?!''
Yugi hums for a moment, faking that he's thinking before he answers him with a small smirk. ''I trained. Nothing special.''
Maximilian just widens his eyes in disgust. This child; he continues to insult him like he wasn't even a threat. He won't accept this, not again!
''I will not be mocked by someone like you!'' He proclaims enraged, not caring what it takes or what Aizen may think but the Dragon Knight will die here. Raising his sword forward, covering his face, Maximilian utters out firmly. "Rule!'' His blade glows and erupts in bright, burning energy. Honda and Anzu panic while Yugi remains calm.
They watch as the light dies out and Maximilian is now wearing a full body armor outfit resembling his old one as the Empire's king except it was a white and golden Hollow theme as he wears a demonic, Hollow skull face-like crown. He also now wields a large Hollow white spiral spear, resembling a Valkyrur's spear, as it is attached onto a physical size great shield.
''Lanza del Emperador!'' Maximilian announces, energy erupting across his body as his long cape flows behind him. He begins to crack a small chuckle with an insane grin, actually thrilled by the power surging throughout his body.
''Do you find this fitting for the one who will once more become Emperor!'' He proclaims, asking Yugi for his input and yet the Dragon Knight looks at him unimpressed and silent. ''…''
Scoffing at his quiet responses before he proclaims, raising his powerful lance towards the hero. ''Then let me show you my superiorly, my new empire!'' His body radiates and releases streams of energy across his body. As he does, the ground quakes as arms emerge out of the sand and shooting out of them are hundreds of Hollow-like soldiers, each wielding a different kind of bladed-like weapon.
Yugi watches in shock, just realizing things will not be as easy as he hoped for.

The two-front battle rages on as Jonouchi tries to counterattack against Yami Marik while Yugi must now fight Maximilian's Resurrección form and his grander power. Will the two be able to win through the end?
Jonouchi: I don't care how strong you are with your fake Ra; I'm not giving up on Yugi or the others!
Yugi: No matter what, we will save Ichigo-kun and stop Aizen-kun!
Honda: They'll win! I know they can!

Author's Note: YOU KNOW THIS HAD TO HAPPEN. Jonouchi/Joey deserve his rematch against Yami Marik. The only reason why I didn't do it in Volume 2 was that Jonouchi would have his grand fight against the Dark Lord. So anyway, here's my chance to do it for real.
Plus, to show the concept of friendship that Anzu, Honda and Jonouchi have for Yugi to not leave him alone. They've gone through a lot before the events of DKR in the canon series so I wanted to bring that again.
Also Proxy Ra with the new Ra support; wanted to do something with that so here's my chance!
