Chapter 34: True Nature's, and Dark Deals, Part 2
…
Laura was resting peacefully in bed, the gentle rise and fall of her breathing a comfort to Derreck as he prepared for the day. He moved carefully, not wanting to awaken her, and placed a tender kiss on her cheek.
After handing Mr. Rat, his father, a cookie as he usually did, Derreck shared a look with him. Mr. Rat, understanding, nodded and signaled that he would watch over Laura and their three kids while Derreck checked on the others.
Stepping outside, Derreck took a moment to appreciate the tranquility of the island. The trees rustled gently in the breeze, and the sound of the ocean waves crashing against the shore provided a soothing backdrop. He walked among the trees, enjoying the serenity before making his way to the makeshift command center.
Inside, the command center was a hive of activity. Sonic the Hedgehog zipped from station to station, his quick movements a blur. Optimus Prime and Arcee stood together, their imposing forms overseeing the operations. G1 Bumblebee was busy coordinating communications, while Rick and Daryl monitored surveillance feeds. Van Helsing and a few others were stationed at various points, keeping an eye out for conjunctions or breaches to other worlds, the usual plots from their adversaries.
Kratos checked in from Midgard, his voice resonating with authority. "Logan, something is happening in Batman's universe, on his Earth. The Almighty is feeling a pain, like one would when they have to turn their face away from a profound sin that pains them to watch. After speaking with Him, He advised me to assist in this situation along with Derreck."
Logan nodded, understanding the gravity of the situation. Just then, Batman's voice came in over Logan's communicator, the urgency in his tone unmistakable.
"Logan, we need your help. A ringwraith, along with Lex Luthor, Amanda Waller, and Professor Ivo, have accepted a pact of sorts with the serpent. They did this of their own free will, in exchange for power over this world. It's actually branded them."
Logan's eyes narrowed. "What kind of pact, Bruce?"
Batman's voice was steady but strained. "They've been granted immense power and influence, far beyond anything we've seen. Their organizations are receiving unprecedented support, and scientific advancements are skyrocketing. It's causing a chain reaction that's spiraling out of control. We need to stop them before it's too late."
Derreck, overhearing the conversation, stepped forward. "I'll go with you, Logan. This isn't something we can ignore."
Kratos' voice came through again. "I will join you as well. The Almighty's guidance was clear. We must intervene
Logan looked around the room, seeing the resolve in the eyes of his comrades. "Alright, let's get moving. We need to gather our forces and head to Batman's Earth immediately."
The portal opened, and Derreck, Logan, Kratos, Sonic, Van Helsing, and the Doomslayer, accompanied by his onboard A.I., VEGA, stepped through into the dark, gritty streets of Gotham City. The atmosphere was heavy with tension, the city's usual chaos amplified by the current crisis.
They were immediately greeted by Failsafe, Batman's advanced AI counterpart, now fully sentient and autonomous. His robotic form moved with precision as he approached the group.
"Welcome. The situation has worsened since your arrival was requested," Failsafe said, his voice modulated but filled with urgency. "Amanda Waller's political ties run deep within the government, giving her unprecedented influence. Additionally, there are rumors that Darkseid has mysteriously disappeared."
Logan frowned. "That doesn't sound good. What else are we dealing with?"
Failsafe continued, his tone grave. "Talia al Ghul was possessed by the devil himself until recently. She's still recovering from the ordeal. Moreover, the serpent killed his counterpart from this world—our world's Lucifer, who was more moderate and ran a nightclub. The serpent blew him up just to prove a point."
The Doomslayer clenched his fists, the intensity of his resolve reflected in his glowing eyes as he let out a low rumbling growl.
As they moved through the dark alleys and into a hidden entrance to the Batcave, Failsafe provided more details. "Waller's influence is spreading rapidly, and her connections are shielding her from direct confrontation. Ivo's technological advancements have fortified his position, making him nearly untouchable. Luthor's financial empire is growing exponentially, making him a significant threat."
Derreck, scanning the area, spoke up. "Our best shot is to use their own power against them. If we can get them to take the Almighty's name in vain or outright challenge Him, we can break their pact and strip them of their influence."
Sonic zipped ahead, checking for any immediate threats. "Then let's get to it. We don't have time to waste."
Van Helsing, ever the strategist, added, "We need to approach this from multiple angles. Divide and conquer. While some of us confront Waller, the rest can handle Ivo and Luthor."
They entered the Batcave, where Batman and the rest of the Justice League were waiting. The room was filled with holographic displays showing the current state of the crisis, stock market fluctuations, and strategic points of interest.
Batman turned to face them, his expression stern. "Thank you for coming. We have a plan, but it's going to require precise coordination. We need to destabilize their power base and force them into a corner where they have no choice but to invoke the Almighty's name."
Logan nodded. "We're ready. Just tell us where to go."
Batman began to assign roles. "Derreck, Kratos, and Sonic, you'll go after Amanda Waller. Her political connections are her biggest strength. Disrupt her influence and expose her corruption."
"Logan and Van Helsing, you'll take on Professor Ivo. His technological advancements are making him a formidable threat. Disable his infrastructure and cut off his resources."
"Doomslayer, you and VEGA will confront Lex Luthor. His financial empire is the key to his power. Undermine his operations and force him to make a mistake."
Each team acknowledged their mission, understanding the gravity of their tasks.
Failsafe added, "And remember, the serpent's influence is still present. He's crafty, so be on guard."
…
With Group-1…
The team moved swiftly through the hallways of Amanda Waller's headquarters, the oppressive atmosphere making even Kratos' skin crawl. Batman, Wonder Woman, Kratos, Sonic, and Derreck advanced cautiously, their senses on high alert. They passed by a few senators and representatives from various companies, each nodding respectfully or exchanging brief words with the guards leading them.
Kratos' unease was only growing. to the sinister energy permeating the building. Batman noticed his companion's discomfort but said nothing, focusing instead on the mission at hand. They had arranged a meeting with Amanda Waller, and they only had one shot at this.
As they approached Waller's office, the tension in the air thickened. The guards opened the doors, allowing the group to enter. Amanda Waller sat behind her desk, exuding an aura of confidence and control. Her eyes gleamed with a mix of amusement and contempt as she observed the heroes before her.
"Welcome," she said, her voice smooth and commanding. "I must say, it's quite the surprise to see you all here."
Batman stepped forward, his voice calm but firm. "Amanda, we need to talk. The situation is spiraling out of control. The power you've gained from the serpent is dangerous and corrupting."
Waller leaned back in her chair, a smirk playing on her lips. "Dangerous? Corrupting? Or is it simply power that you can't control, Batman? What can you offer me that my benefactor hasn't already provided?"
Wonder Woman, her eyes narrowed, added, "This power comes at a cost, Amanda. You must know that."
Amanda's smirk widened. "Oh, I'm well aware. But let me ask you this: if the Almighty is truly all-powerful and all-good, why did He allow the serpent to give us such power? Perhaps He isn't as infallible as you think."
Kratos, his voice a low growl, couldn't hold back any longer. "You play a dangerous game, Waller. This power will consume you."
Waller chuckled, clearly amused. "Consume me? I think not. In fact, I was planning on leveraging this power further. It's a shame that Failsafe had to gain true sentience and join the GCPD. I was planning on recruiting him and replicating the technology to systematically dismantle the metahuman community. But, not that I'm complaining."
The bombshell dropped, the room fell silent. The heroes exchanged glances, realizing the extent of Waller's ambitions.
Batman, maintaining his composure, tried reasoning one last time. "Amanda, this isn't just about power. This is about the safety and future of our world. You need to see that."
Waller's amusement turned to cold calculation. "Safety? Future? Those are just words, Batman. Words that hold no meaning in the face of true power. The serpent has given us an opportunity, and I intend to seize it."
Kratos, fists clenched, took a step forward. "You are blinded by your ambition. This will end in ruin."
Waller's eyes flashed with a dangerous light. "Then let it. But mark my words, I will not be the one to fall."
Waller's eyes flashed with a dangerous light. "Then let it. But mark my words, I will not be the one to fall."
She grinned even more and looked directly at Kratos. "Oh, Kratos. You and your so-called 'God'... The Core, the Almighty, or whatever you want to call Him. You're nothing but His pawn. And you know what? I don't fear Him."
Her grin widened, and what she did next left everyone in the room stunned. She pointed her middle finger up at Kratos. "You can take your salvation and go do this with it...!" she said, letting out mocking laughter.
Kratos's face softened, a look of pity crossing his features. He realized that Waller had completely blinded herself to the truth, her ambition clouding any sense of reality or morality she once had.
The moment of shock was broken by the sudden ringing of Waller's phone. Still chuckling, she wiped away a tear and answered it, her expression quickly shifting from amusement to confusion and then to panic.
"What do you mean?" she demanded, her voice rising. "How can this be happening?"
The person on the other end was frantic. "Your stocks have crashed due to reports of fraudulent behavior! The senators are either calling for investigations or being investigated themselves since they don't want to be aligned with you any longer or are in a mess themselves due to that. Your past illegal practices have been leaked to the public press, and it's all over the web. Also, the scientific branches are being investigated for human rights abuses. We've gone bankrupt!"
Waller's face paled as she absorbed the news. Her grip on the phone tightened, her knuckles turning white. She hung up, her earlier bravado shattered.
Batman stepped forward, his voice cold and steady. "This is what happens when you make deals with serpents, Amanda. The power you sought has turned against you."
Wonder Woman, her eyes filled with a mix of sadness and resolve, added, "It's not too late to make amends. You can still choose to do the right thing."
Waller, her face now a mask of rage and desperation, looked at them with wild eyes. "No... This can't be happening. I won't let it end like this!"
Kratos stepped closer, his voice a low, rumbling growl. "You played a dangerous game, Amanda. And now, you're facing the consequences."
As if on cue, the fang-like brand on Waller's skin suddenly sizzled and burned even more. She cried out in pain, clutching at the mark. A sinister hissing filled the room, and the serpent materialized, coiling around Waller's neck seemingly out of nowhere.
"I told you," the serpent hissed in her ear, "if you failed, I would take it all back. I gave you... EVERYTHING... and now it's time to pay up, with your next and final reward since you threw the almighty's desperate olive branch of hope back into his face and mocked him openly... brace yourself for your eternal reward, it starts now."
Amanda Waller tried to weasel her way out of it, struggling and demanding, "Unhand me this instant!"
The serpent chuckled, its coils tightening around her. "Don't you get it yet? You've sold your soul... for money and power, and you've blinded yourself to the point beyond redemption since you still won't call out to Him for help, but you can't take it with you as you move into your new dark, and firey residence of my personally tailored prisons till the end of days, when you and indeed I will both be judged and it'll get so much worse. At least I'll have fun before that happens."
Waller's eyes widened in terror as the serpent began dragging her toward the wall's shadows. She screamed, digging her nails into the floor in a futile attempt to resist. "No! This can't be happening! Someone help me!"
The heroes watched, knowing that Waller had brought this upon herself. There was nothing they could do to save her from the fate she had chosen.
As the serpent dragged her into the darkness, her screams grew more desperate. "I won't let you do this! I'll find a way out!"
The serpent's laughter echoed through the room. "It's too late for that, Amanda. Welcome to your eternal reward a reward in the form of torment with your sins reflected back at you and the best part is, there's a great devide, keeping anyone from passing onto the heavenly realms from there, like an empty void that spans forever that in turn, drags you back to the fire every time you try."
With a final, agonized scream, Amanda Waller was pulled into the shadows that smelled like the stinking stench of rot and death, filled with echoing screams and of countless others that fell in the original universe, disappearing. The room fell silent, the oppressive atmosphere lifting slightly but leaving behind a lingering sense of dread.
Batman, Wonder Woman, Kratos, Sonic, and Derreck stood in somber silence, each reflecting on the harsh reality of the situation. They had witnessed the consequences of unchecked ambition and the dangers of making deals with dark forces.
Wonder Woman broke the silence, her voice filled with resolve. "We have to continue. There are still others who need to be stopped."
Batman didn't waste any time. "Agreed. Let's move. We have work to do."
As they left the office, Kratos looked back at Amanda Wallers desk, wondering what drove her to such darkness to throw her life away in such a manner while at the same time shook his head in pity at her hubris.
…
Elsewhere, with Group-2
Meanwhile, in the high-tech confines of Professor Ivo's laboratory, Logan and Van Helsing were confronting Ivo himself. The lab was a labyrinth of cutting-edge technology, filled with the hum of machines and the glow of various monitors. Ivo was deeply engrossed in his work, surrounded by an array of nanotech robots and self-evolving androids.
Logan growled in frustration as he and Van Helsing approached. "Ivo, we need to talk."
Ivo, absorbed in his experiments, barely glanced up. "I'm busy. Come back later."
Van Helsing, eyes scanning the lab, noticed the sheer scale of Ivo's operations. "What the hell are you doing here, Ivo? This isn't just research—it's an arms race."
Ivo's hands moved deftly over a console, manipulating a complex series of holographic displays. "You wouldn't understand. This is the future of humanity. Self-evolving androids, nanotech robots, each more advanced than the last."
Two Amazo units stood guard, their imposing forms unmoving but watchful. They didn't make any moves to stop Logan or Van Helsing, but their presence was a silent reminder of Ivo's capabilities.
Logan sniffed the air, his heightened senses picking up something unusual. He moved towards a series of large, cylindrical pods in the corner of the lab. As he got closer, the scent became unmistakable. "What the...?"
Inside the pods were clones—exact replicas of various individuals, suspended in a state of artificial gestation. Resurrection pods. The sight brought back uncomfortable memories for Logan, memories of when Krakoa practiced resurrection before learning the disturbing truth behind it.
"These... these are clones," Logan said, his voice low and filled with anger. "Ivo, what the hell are you planning?"
Ivo finally looked up, his eyes cold and calculating. "Progress, Logan. True progress. Imagine a world where death is a minor inconvenience, where our greatest minds and warriors can be brought back, better and stronger."
Van Helsing, shaking his head, stepped closer to Ivo. "You're playing God, Ivo. This isn't progress—it's madness."
Ivo smirked, returning his attention to his work. "Madness? Or evolution? You see only the danger because you lack the vision to see the potential."
Logan's claws extended with a snikt, the metallic sound sharp in the sterile lab environment. "Enough talk. We're shutting this down."
Ivo's eyes flicked to the Amazos, but they remained still. "You can try, Logan. But know this—my creations are designed to adapt and overcome. Even you."
The frustration was at an all-time high as Logan and Van Helsing found themselves ignored by a man so consumed by his ambition that he saw nothing else. The sight of the cloning pods, the resurrection technology—it all underscored the peril they faced.
Van Helsing adjusted his grip on his crossbow, aiming it at one of the consoles. "We don't have time for this, Ivo. Stand down or we'll make you."
Ivo chuckled softly; a sound devoid of humor. "You can destroy my lab, but you can't stop progress. Even now, my work is being replicated and distributed. This is only the beginning."
Logan took a deep breath, his claws slowly retracting with a soft snikt as a crafty idea wormed its way into his head. He approached Ivo with a calculated calm, his voice low and measured. "Tell me, Ivo, are your androids able to take on the Almighty if given the chance? Or better yet, do you think you can outwit your new benefactor, that snake you've allied yourself with?"
Ivo's eyes flickered with a mix of irritation and curiosity. Almost unconsciously, he replied, "I am the one in control. I have the intelligence, the technology. I command these androids, and they evolve under my direction."
Logan's eyes narrowed slightly as he continued to prod. "So, you really think you're in charge, huh? That you can control everything, even the serpent?"
Ivo's expression shifted, a manic gleam growing in his eyes. He began to rant, his voice becoming increasingly unhinged. "Yes, I am in control! I am the one shaping the future. My technology will shake the very foundations of this multiverse, and in time, other multiverses as well!"
Van Helsing took a step back as his eyes slowly widened, recognizing the dangerous shift in Ivo's demeanor. Ivo was becoming more and more consumed by his god complex.
Logan remained calm, allowing Ivo to continue his tirade. "I am a new god of this new world, and this new order. I grant life and I take it away. I AM HIGHER THAN GOD HIMSELF! I AM SUPERIOR TO—"
Before Ivo could finish his declaration, a gear on one of his machines came loose when it's rotations undid one of the screws that held it down. It spun off like a bullet, flying straight towards Ivo. The gear struck him in the neck, embedding itself deeply into the wall behind him.
Ivo staggered, his hands clutching at his neck as blood poured from the wound. He fell backward into a table of chemicals, shattering the containers on impact. The chemicals burned his skin severely, smoke and fumes rising from the table.
His gurgled screams filled the lab, a horrifying sound that echoed off the metal walls. Logan and Van Helsing watched as Ivo writhed in agony, his body convulsing before he finally fell silent. The lab grew quiet, the only sound the faint hum of the remaining machines.
Logan stepped forward, looking down at Ivo's lifeless body. He shook his head, a mix of pity and grim satisfaction on his face. "Guess he wasn't so superior after all."
Van Helsing approached cautiously, checking Ivo's pulse to confirm his death. "He was consumed by his ambition. In the end, it destroyed him."
Logan turned to the two Amazos standing guard. "Looks like your creator is gone. You don't have anyone to guide or command you, and you don't have to worry about us, Stand down."
The Amazos, now without their master, powered down, their lights dimming as they ceased operation. The immediate threat neutralized, Logan and Van Helsing took a moment to assess the lab.
Van Helsing sighed, looking at the cloning pods and the advanced technology around them. "We need to shut this place down. Make sure none of these falls into the wrong hands."
Logan nodded. "Agreed. Let's dismantle everything. Burn it if we must. If not, we should call in the rest of the league so they can seize these assets and any other locations that Ivo had."
…
Elsewhere, the Doomslayer, superman, power girl, and green-lantern, aka, Group-3, were facing some trouble.
Lex, having heard of his associates' demises, was determined not to go quietly. Paranoia had driven him into the latest model of his LexCorp suit, a behemoth of technological prowess and deadly weaponry.
As the team entered the high-tech battlefield, Lex wasted no time, opening fire with a barrage of energy blasts. The fight was intense, and the heroes moved swiftly to counter his attacks.
Superman charged forward, only to be blasted back by a kryptonite beam. The green energy seared into him, sending him crashing into Powergirl. They tumbled to the ground, momentarily stunned.
The Doomslayer stood firm, his imposing figure a stark contrast to the chaos around him. Lex's eyes locked onto the ancient, jagged sword the Doomslayer wielded, its blade glowing with a red forcefield and arcane markings. The energy readings from the sword were off the charts, and Lex's greed flared.
"I want that sword!" Lex declared, his voice distorted by his suit's speakers. He lunged at the Doomslayer, his mech suit's powerful arm swinging forward.
The impact of Lex's punch sent a shockwave through the streets, shattering several windows. But the Doomslayer didn't budge. Instead, he grabbed Lex's mechanical arm and bent it backward with an almost casual display of strength, continuing to glare at Lex with unwavering intensity.
Lex's eyes widened in shock and anger. "Impossible!"
The Doomslayer slashed at Lex's arm with his sword, cleaving the mechanical limb clean off. He threw the severed arm aside as if it were nothing. In desperation, Lex fired a hellfire missile at him. The missile whizzed past the Doomslayer, who simply caught it mid-air, his grip unyielding.
Lex watched in horror as the Doomslayer rammed the missile into his own helmet, causing a massive explosion. Fire and debris flew everywhere, but when the flames cleared, the Doomslayer emerged, unscathed and advancing.
Panic started to set in for Lex Luthor. He opened fire with every weapon at his disposal, but the Doomslayer responded with brutal efficiency. He pulled out a plasma rifle, firing precise shots that tore pieces off Lex's mech suit. Lex stumbled back, trying to maintain his footing.
Next, the Doomslayer switched to a heavy cannon, blasting through the suit's armor plating. Lex's defenses were failing, and his suit was becoming a smoking wreck.
Finally, the Doomslayer pulled out a massive chainsaw, its engine revving with a roar that echoed through the street. He walked slowly toward Lex, the chainsaw's teeth gleaming with deadly intent.
Lex, now in full panic mode, tried to back away, but his ruined mech suit hindered his movement. "Stay back! You can't do this! I am Lex Luthor!"
The Doomslayer's response was silent and deadly. He swung the chainsaw with precision, cutting through the remnants of Lex's armor. Sparks flew as metal met metal, and Lex screamed in terror.
As the Doomslayer advanced, the chainsaw cleaved through the final defenses of Lex's suit. The once-mighty armor was reduced to scrap, and Lex was left exposed and vulnerable. The Doomslayer lifted him by the collar, glaring into his eyes.
"Please... no..." Lex's voice was a whimper, all bravado gone.
The Doomslayer threw Lex to the ground, the chainsaw's roar filling the air. With a final, decisive swing, he ended the battle, the remnants of Lex's suit falling away.
Lex, desperate to escape his fate, dodged a stomp that would have pinned him to the floor. He reached for his last line of defense: a gun loaded with a bullet capable of killing the gods of New Genesis should they be hit with it.
Lex aimed the gun at the Doomslayer and pulled the trigger. But in that instant, the Doomslayer's reflexes kicked in. He grabbed Lex's hand, crushing the pistol around his hand, turning it and the bones within to paste. Lex screamed in agony as the bullet ricocheted off the Doomslayer's helmet and hit his own computer, causing a small explosion of sparks.
"THAT'S NOT POSSIBLE!" Lex yelled, struggling to escape his tormentor. His efforts were futile. The Doomslayer, showing no mercy, bonked Lex on the head with the butt of the chainsaw, knocking him out cold.
Superman, Powergirl, and Green Lantern regrouped around the fallen villain. Green Lantern used his ring to bind Lex in secure, glowing green restraints.
The scene was disturbing, the raw brutality of the Doomslayer evident in every action.
Powergirl glanced at the Doomslayer, who was standing eerily still, his eyes scanning the room as if searching for his next fight. She whispered to Superman, "Something's off about him. What world does he come from?"
Superman looked directly at her, his expression serious. "Based on what I've heard, he comes from a warrior society in a dimension that took on Hell. He's the last one standing, and he actually managed to intimidate his reality's Hell... hence the name Doomslayer."
Powergirl's eyes widened in shock. "He intimidated his realities, Hell? No wonder he's so... intense. I mean, it's not the original hell from the original universe, but still…"
Green Lantern, still processing the Doomslayer's actions, added, "We need to keep an eye on him. His methods are effective, but they're... unsettling."
Superman nodded but he did add, "True, but he is helping us. Bare that in mind. But right now, we have to secure Lex and make sure his remaining assets are neutralized."
The Doomslayer continued to stand silently, his presence a constant reminder of the raw, unrelenting power he wielded. His eyes scanned the room, always alert, always ready for the next threat. The heroes knew one thing for sure though, they needed to be especially careful around that one."
…
Batman's group, Derreck's group, and Logan's group reconvened at the Hall of Justice, which had been converted into a makeshift command structure. The atmosphere was tense yet filled with a sense of determination. Bruce Wayne was coordinating with Commissioner Gordon, who was busy contacting his government associates to brief them on the escalating situation.
As the groups gathered, Bruce began to relay the latest developments. "There's some good news. Ivo's, Amanda Waller's, and Lex Luthor's assets are being frozen or seized. The amount of political fallout against them is staggering," he said, his voice steady but edged with grim satisfaction.
Commissioner Gordon added, "Government agencies are opening investigations into their activities. Their influence is crumbling faster than we anticipated."
Kratos and Van Helsing, who had been unusually quiet, exchanged knowing looks. The realization hit them hard. "The serpent promised them power, promised them earthly riches," Kratos began, his deep voice filled with a mix of growing realization. "But it never mentioned they would be allowed to keep it."
Van Helsing nodded, a grim expression on his face. "It was just a trap in the end. The serpent tricked them. He gave them what he offered, but not what they really wanted."
Bruce thought on that for a moment before he also realized something. "Based on what I've heard, the Almighty went through a similar situation in the original Earth in the form of Jesus. He wandered the desert and was eventually tempted by Lucifer. Lucifer offered Him all the kingdoms of the world if He would bow down and worship him. After two attempts on that attempt, Jesus's answer was... 'Get away from me, Satan.'"
They all fell into thoughtful silence at that, realizing how crucial it was to remain on guard whenever this snake tried to tempt them with things that seemed alluring but were fleeting pleasures in the end that led to their own destruction.
…
A short while later, alerts were sent out to local organizations, instructing them to keep an eye open for the ringwraith. The urgency of the situation was immediately clear; the ringwraith had accepted the serpent's deal, and they had yet to locate him.
Batman stood at the center of the command room, addressing his team. "We need to find the ringwraith. He's still out there, and his alliance with the serpent makes him a significant threat."
Superman and Wonder Woman nodded in agreement, their expressions tense. Green Lantern was already coordinating with the Lantern Corps, and Flash was zipping between consoles, ensuring that all communication lines were secure and operational.
Batman turned to Derreck. "Can you use your reality viewing powers to locate him?"
Derreck, already concentrating, his eyes glowing with a black hue, nodded. "I'm on it."
It took only a second for Derreck to find the ringwraith. His eyes widened slightly, and he raised an eyebrow in surprise as he looked at Bruce. "He's in an old home in the slums that was set to be demolished and rebuilt into an apartment building. He has a hostage... a humanoid lizard?"
Batman furrowed his brow. "A humanoid lizard?"
Derreck continued, focusing more intently. "His name is Drake Wyvern. He's... your distant relative, Bruce. His mother is your aunt, who was once removed. And he's... a nephilim."
The room fell silent as the gravity of the situation sank in. Bruce's eyes narrowed, a mix of concern and determination flashing in them. "A nephilim? That complicates things."
Superman stepped forward. "We need to move quickly. If the ringwraith has a hostage, we can't afford to waste any time."
Wonder Woman nodded. "Agreed. We should prepare for immediate extraction. Derreck, can you guide us to their location?"
Derreck nodded. "I can take you there. But be prepared—the ringwraith won't go down without a fight."
Batman turned to the team. "All right, let's gear up. We move out in five. Stay sharp, and remember, the ringwraith is dangerous. We'll need to be at our best."
As the team prepared for the mission, Bruce approached Derreck, who was still deeply focused on viewing the timelines. "Derreck," Bruce began, his voice steady but filled with curiosity and concern. "What can you tell me about Drake? What is he like, and where has he been all this time?"
Derreck, his eyes still glowing with the black hue of his reality viewing powers, took a deep breath. "Drake's mother was sterile, and she was approached by a demon named 'Idol of Lizards' and 'Archon of Unclean Acts.' In an ancient pre-civilization language, his name translates to 'Idol of Lizards' and 'Archon of Unclean Acts.' He offered to cure her of her sterility if she would give him a child. She accepted the deal."
Bruce listened intently, his mind processing the gravity of the situation.
"She eventually got sick from bearing him," Derreck continued, his voice tinged with sadness. "When Drake was eight, she died. Since then, he's moved from place to place, keeping his head low and living on the streets of various cities. He's masked his presence from even the gods of this universe. He's been living in the slums we're going to."
Bruce's expression darkened, but Derreck wasn't finished. "There's something else," he said, his voice growing even more somber. "Drake's mother's brother is the father... of the Joker."
The words hung heavily in the air as Bruce's eyes widened in shock. "What?" he whispered, barely able to believe what he was hearing.
Derreck snapped out of his trance, meeting Bruce's gaze. "Yes, Bruce. This means that the Joker is related to the Waynes in some way."
The realization hit Bruce like a ton of bricks. The Joker, his most infamous and deadly nemesis, was somehow connected to his family. The implications were staggering, and the weight of this new knowledge pressed heavily on him.
"We need to move quickly," Bruce said, his voice regaining its composure. "But this... this changes things."
Derreck nodded. "I know. But right now, we need to focus on saving Drake and stopping the ringwraith."
Bruce took a deep breath, as if to calm himself. "You're right. Let's go."
