A/N: So I almost couldn't make this update because my laptop fell off a shelf. The good news is that I caught it after it bounced off the desk and it didn't make it onto the floor. It somehow also missed my tea mug, so I suppose it could've been /
The backing came loose partially and I was worried it was because of the battery, but I ended up getting it open (almost entirely) and all looked well! Hoora, I didn't break my laptop!
The few days before the training for the World Cup started, meant they had some time off. Ginny had made Harry promise to work through the boxes in the attic, and she'd help him with memory spells.
She knew it was a difficult task, but if she didn't nudge him a little, he may never get to it. She knew he'd feel better after, he may finally have all his memories back.
She gave him some reprieve though, and so they had a lot of time to themselves.
She shifted on the couch. "I have to tell you something."
"What?" He cocked his head as he looked at her.
"I haven't told you because it's illegal," she continued.
He reached out and squeezed her knee. "You're worrying me."
She pulled her legs up on the couch, took a deep breath and then changed into her animagus form. She felt herself shift, turning into the long-haired ginger tabby. She looked at Harry.
Harry's face broke into a smile immediately. "How adorable."
She frowned at him.
"Oh, don't give me that face. I know you can scratch my face off, but yet," he looked at her closer.
She gave him an indignant nod. Then she stood up, her tail swishing up high behind her and walked over to Harry. He reached out carefully and scratched between her ears.
The purring noise erupted in her chest and she instinctively pushed her head up into his hand. She froze, trying to still the betraying noise and her eyes opened again. She had never purred before.
Harry raised an eyebrow. "Are you okay?"
To prove her point, she walked over into his lap and sat down, staring up at him. Only she found her betraying paws kneading into his leg. She grumbled and quickly jumped off his lap, making sure to swish her tail into his face.
She turned back into her human shape on the other side of the couch, blushing.
Harry smiled at her. "You're unregistered, I take it?"
"Yes." She brushed her hand against her cheek. "I had never purred before."
He sat a little closer to her. "You must really like me."
"Shut up, it's really embarrassing! It was bigger than myself!"
He kissed her cheek. "It was really cute. I am not surprised your animagus form is a cat."
"Why?" she asked.
"Well," he continued. "You like lounging in the sun and when you get really focused, you look like you're about to pounce."
She opened her mouth to object.
"And you are equally elegant."
She closed her mouth again. "That's more acceptable."
He shook his head. "I guess I must come clean myself." He looked a little embarrassed.
"You're an animagus too?!" she let out. She couldn't believe it had never come up before.
He turned towards her. "Yes, also unregistered, hence I hadn't said."
The next moment, Harry's body shifted. Suddenly a large tuxedo cat sat in front of her, blinking his green eyes at her.
She gasped and immediately picked him up. Harry meowed in objection, eyes wide.
"You're a cat too!" She hugged him close. "How cute."
Harry pawed at her to let him go and so she did. He hopped out of her arms and then turned back.
She grinned at him. "Merlin, who would've thought."
"You can't pick me up without warning, I'm not used to that," he told her.
"Sorry, I got excited." She bit her lip. "This is great. Come on."
A moment later they stood across from each other in the space between the living room and the kitchen.
Both of them switched to their animagus form. It annoyed her a bit that he was still noticeably bigger than her as a cat, but she supposed that it made sense.
She looked at the handsome tomcat in front of her. She walked up to him with her tail high and bumped her nose against his. She had meant just to sniff him but then ran along his body, rubbing herself up against him.
He turned to her with his eyes trained on her. He walked to her and she tucked her head under his chin and he purred. He jumped back in surprise at it and shook his head. Past her embarrassment herself, she walked up to him and purred too, now intentionally as she leaned against him.
She could hear it rumble in his chest as he tried his best not to let it erupt. She stretched out her paws in front of him, her tail and butt up high. Then she let herself drop down and turned onto her back.
He slowly raised his paw and swatted at her. She jumped up and then she ran off, looking behind her to see if he was following. She picked up her speed and ran around the kitchen counter with him on her heels. It was exhilarating in a whole new way.
She ran back to the living room, challenging him and he followed happily. She was just halfway to the couch when he pounced. His weight crashed onto her and both of them tumbled over the carpet. Catching her breath she rolled onto her back and looked up at him.
He stood over her, purring deeply. She looked if no objects were near her and then changed back to her human form, and grabbed Harry as he sat atop her stomach. Only before she could wrap her arms around him, he morphed back into his human form.
She gasped at his added weight but he quickly braced himself. He licked his lips.
"Having fun, are we?" he teased.
She raised an eyebrow. "You didn't have to chase me."
He allowed her to push him to roll over and then she was on top of him. She kissed him.
"You bring the purring out in me too," he noted.
She brushed her hand across his cheek. "So it would seem." She sat back up and then she changed into her cat shape. She cocked her head at him, challenging him. She walked away slowly, waving her tail as she walked into the corridor.
She was already on the first step on the stairs when he appeared as animagus too. She sped up but it took her a moment to figure out how to easily take the stairs. She paused on the landing and then leaned into him as he brushed closely past her.
He walked around her in a circle as if he didn't know what to do with her. Then he noticed a sunny spot closer to the guest bed room. He ran to it and meowed at her. As he got comfortable on the spot, she ran to him and then let herself drop beside him. It was comfortable to be sure.
The sun immediately warmed her bones and Harry's fur was soft against her. It was comfortable and she let herself relax completely in their sunny spot. They purred in unison. She could take a nap like this. Harry's nose pressed against her neck and she leaned into it. He licked behind her ear and a shiver went down her spine.
He paused and she looked at him. Then she licked him, from his collarbone all the way to his chin and he seemed to have liked that. Then he pushed into her again with his head.
They rested on their bed minutes later. Harry looked at her, she in his arms and both on their backs staring up.
"I don't know if that is… normal," Harry said out loud.
She too had not expected to be attracted to his cat form when she was in hers. "I don't know any couples who have the same animagus form."
Harry winced. "I know one, and I don't want to think about it."
She looked at him. "Oh. Yeah, let's not." She took his hand into his. "It doesn't matter, I suppose."
He cocked his head. "Doesn't it?"
"I like you in this shape and I like you in the other shape when I am too." She kissed him. "It makes sense. I think the fact that we are the same animal is significant. I think it's cute."
Harry pulled her closer and kissed her cheek. "Fine, then." His hand teased the skin under her shirt. "I believe we weren't quite done."
She leaned into his hand and chuckled. "Do you need me on all fours or…?"
"Gin." He blushed. "You know what—I know you are trying to do this to tease me so yes, I do actually need that."
That night, Harry and Ginny escaped the house under the invisibility cloak and stashed it in a nearby alleyway before turning into their animagus forms. A short-haired tuxedo tomcat was spotted taking a walk with a ginger tabby in the park and enjoying the sunset on a vacant bench, tails curled together and cuddling close, and the reporters were none the wiser.
