When The world's not perfect, when the world's not kind,
You should know I'll be there for you. "
The keys to Hinatas apartment jiged in the door, her eyebrows Furrowed and her cheeks heating up
" darn thing always gets stuck, I apologize"
But Naruto just laughed it off. Finally, after a few failed attempts, the door finally opens, and the three of them walk in. Naruto places Boruto gently on the floor while Hinata takes off his jacket and hers and hangs them up. Naruto follows suit before placing the bags on the kitchen counter.
He scans around the small place; nothing too crazy. It's a perfect home for two or three people. The walls are colored a soft lavender, and there are picture frames of Hinata and Boruto over the years. A birthday picture of the two of them sits nicely on a lamp stand right next to the TV. There's a large white couch in the middle of the living room, and it seems there's only one bedroom, so it's safe to assume they sleep together. The kitchen is nice and quaint, nothing too terrible, just a bit tight. That's okay, though; that won't be a problem for too long. It's kind of a shame it is cozy here.
Hinata pulls her hair up in a bun and puts on her apron. She takes the ingredients out of the bag and begins seasoning the meat. While she's in the middle of cooking, she looks up to see a wonderful sight.
Naruto throws Boruto in the air while his toddler's giggles fill the space. Now suspended in the air with the full support of Naruto's hands under his belly, he carefully spins the child around as if he were an airplane while the 2-year-old makes 'airplane noises'. Naruto's eyes gleam with pure joy knowing he's able to make his son smile like that.
" Higher! Higher!"
" I don't think you can get any higher than this bud" Naruto chuckles before a fun thought crossed his mind
"Hey, Boruto.."
" huh? "
Naruto grips the child holding him firmly before in a swift motion flipping him upside down and swinging him around, Boruto seemed suprised for a momment but then begins to laugh, boy his laugh as boisterous as his father's, Naruto continues to swing him around faster in circles before the both of them got dizzy, Naruto lost his footing and fell into the Carpet making sure to hold Boruto tightly
" again! Again! "
Boruto grabs his father's shirt trying to maintain his balance while also trying to force Naruto up. Naruto lets out a breath, pats his head, and stands up. Once again, he makes the mistake of swinging him around. Hinata watched the scene unfold and shook her head. She wasn't as free-spirited or played with Boruto in a rough manner. She was more of a worrywart. Everything that had plugs had a plug protector. There's a gate that wraps around their TV so he can't reach it. The knives are hung in a high place, and the shelves and doors are locked so he's unable to open them and smash his hands. Yet, he always enjoyed roughhousing. Despite her heart increasingly racing every time he got spun around, she trusted Naruto and was overjoyed to see her baby have so much fun and get along with him. That would make things a little easier.
Hinata turned around, making sure to watch the rice as it boils, cracking the eggs and adding in panko crumbs to the mix. She hums a little tune before she felt two large hands wrap around her waist. She jumped at the touch, looking back to see Naruto and Boruto under his legs. It's almost like they're a real family. His hands stay on her waist so naturally, of course it would, it always has. Naruto grins at her then switches his attention to the cooking food.
"Here, let me help with something." Naruto looks around, trying to find anything to help with. Though he had to admit he wasn't exactly the best cook in the world, he could definitely do something if he put his mind to it.
"No, that's alright Naruto, you're alright helping Boruto. Hinata looks down at her son, shooting him a soft smile."
" c'mon me and Boruto want to help"
" I want to help mama! I can stir the pot, I am good at sitting the pot! " Boruto places a hand to his chest proudly closing his eyes in triumph
" no my love, there is no pot to stir today, let's see.. Hoe about Naruto helps cut the vegetables and you can put them in the bowl with the meat, how does that sound? "
" will do! " Boruto and Naruto says in unison as Boruto goes to grab his step stool and his apron, Hinata had bought him a easy to put on apron since he's so insistent that he can do everything himself. Naruto begins cutting the carrots and onions while Boruto places them into the bowl and Hinata mixes them all together, everything in perfect Harmony, they each did their part in silence before Boruto began to sing out "Skidamarink a dink a dink skidamarink a doo, I love you"
And of course Hinata couldn't help but join in
" I love you in the morning and in the afternoon, I love you in the evening and underneath the moon. "
They both giggled while Naruto listened as the other two finished off in unison
Skidamarink a dink a dink skidamarink a doo, I love you"
Finally, everything is mixed together, and Hinata begins to cook the meat while Boruto and Naruto help set up the table
"Hey Hinata, was that an English rhyme?"
" Hinata continues concentrating on the meat but gives him a small hum before answering "
" Yes, Boruto watches American cartoons sometimes, and I believe he picked up on that little rhyme. It's easy to remember and really cute, so I sing it to him from time to time. "
Once the food is finished, they all sit together eating their meals. Boruto speaks about random things throughout his day, but just like his mother, he isn't too talkative when he wants to be. Most of his attention lies on his dinner while Naruto and Hinata play catch up. After dinner, Hinata washes the plates while Naruto helps clean off the table, and Boruto watches his last hour of TV.
" So what does Boruto do after this? Naruto places one more dish in the sink.
"He has one hour to watch his cartoons. Then I will be giving him a bath, which takes another 35 minutes exactly, because he's quite testy and will push for story time to be longer." Naruto releases a chuckle as he wipes down the table, imagining Boruto and Hinata bickering over "one last story."
" Then I read him a bedtime story and lay there with him until he falls asleep"
" sounds peaceful, think I can help today? "
Hinata was taken aback by his offer, but she wanted him to be a part of his life, and he was actively participating so why not?
" Of course, I'm sure he'd love that."
They finished up cleaning, and Hinata brewed them some tea. She took a deep breath as they both sat at the table, picking at her nails ever so slightly and taking small sips of her tea. This was it. It was time to tell him everything. "Naruto..?"
" Yeah? " Naruto's gaze that was once on the cartoon Boruto was watching now switched to her, never breaking eye contact. He knew they both had a lot to talk about, and he hoped he could keep some of those strong emotions he himself had, at bay.
" Let's... talk." Hinata gently places her tea down, it did help calm her nerves ever so slightly.
" ... You go first. " Naruto shifts his body, now facing her, his complete attention all on her, it was now or never.
