How long has it been since I arrived here? I don't know, and I never asked. The only exception was when Mel came into my room long after I finished telling my story to Colby, and we continued to lay together in my bed for a while in silence, but he never stopped comforting me.
Mel said, "It's been three years. Why don't you guys come upstairs for once?"
That was when I seriously underestimated how fast time went by down here. After that day I told everyone I didn't want to keep track of time, and nobody argued with me. Thus, life down here with them truly began - even though it was merely continuing for my elder brother. He and I didn't start any kind of 'bonding' until he finally asked me about Lucifer one day.
"Did you meet him?"
"Twice," I told him. "The second time, I tried to kill him."
"Why?" Daimon asked in astute wonder. He sat on one of the leather couches Colby helped him poof up. Daimon indirectly admitted he wasn't used to furniture, much less a bed that wasn't made out of hay, straw or tree leaves. That made me want to know what Earth was like when he was there.
I joined him on the couch he was on, so I was on the other cushion. He blinked in mild confusion, most likely remembering when Mel explained how each person gets a cushion to themselves, so however many cushions the couch had revealed how many people could sit on it. This particular one was a love seat with two cushions. "He wanted the Apocalypse, and that couldn't happen." I answered, getting comfy.
Daimon shook his head, his blue eyes faint in the glow of the blue moon behind the couches. "Why did you try to kill him?"
I get it now. He wants the truth from me. If we can't be truthful, we can't be trusted as siblings. "I thought he murdered my human family after he was freed. I was misled by... T." I cringed at Colby's new name for him, but it seemed to work for Daimon.
"Your human family was nice?" He asked with growing interest. He props a leg up on the sofa, actually copying the position I was in to see if he liked it - is he childlike sometimes or what?
"Absolutely. My dad was a factory worker who loved to read the newspaper, and my mom was a car mechanic. Good, simple people. My brother was a nerd, long story short. My sister, she survived." I'm not happy to tell it again, but I recount Natalie's tale of her near-death experience with T.
Daimon said, "He likes necks."
"What?" I wasn't sure I heard him right. "You said he likes necks?"
A loud clearing of her throat alerted me to Mel creeping out of the kitchen. None of us even eat, what is she doing in there? "To put it in modern terms," she began. "He's saying he has a neck fetish."
"You mean-" No, I can't finish.
Mel nodded. "He gets off on wrapping his hands around his victims necks and squeezing until they're dead, of course."
I stared at Melgreth in horror. "Victims?"
Daimon sighed. "Your human sister is the only survivor I've heard of."
I covered my mouth in disgust, unhappily thinking of him enjoying doing something like that. "Why is he like that?"
Silence was my answer, and I chose not to pursue it until the end of that day. I decided on a shower, so I climbed up the steps to the upstairs hallway when Daimon caught me by surprise near the bathroom door. It's always dark so it's easy to not be seen.
"He killed my human family too." He let out to me, and then vanished completely. My eyes widened before I sighed.
"I'm sorry." I said aloud, hoping he heard me. I'm sure he did - this is the Domain of Daimon. I carry out my plan with the shower and enjoy the steaming hot water.
There's a knock on the door and someone slips in. I half expected Colby, cause this wasn't the first time he tried to be funny. "Her name was Rebekah." Mel spoke quietly, but loud enough to hear over the running water.
"Who?" I asked, ignoring the creeping feeling I knew the answer.
"Daimon's human family," Mel confirmed. "She always looked after him, until the end."
"T... strangled her?" I assumed.
"He did."
"Why?"
"I believe Teivel felt betrayed by all of us during the War." Mel admitted, maybe more to herself than to me.
"The War," I repeated. "The one Gabriel led?"
Mel seemed surprised. "Yes. He spoke of that?"
"Barely."
"It was an awful time," Mel whispered. "Unfortunately, Vellie chose to join the wrong side."
"Who's Vellie?" I asked, finishing my shower. I slid the door open and Mel handed me a towel before she turned around respectfully.
"That was a nickname for Teivel someone made up. I must have said it out of old habit. I'm supposed to say 'T' right?" She said sheepishly.
I nodded, drying myself off. "It's hard for me to say it, though."
"Ah yes dear, your little name for him is Tei, correct?" Mel remembered, rubbing her dark brown eyes. "How'd that one come to be?"
I tapped my chin as I went to put on fresh clothes. "He said I couldn't say his whole name when I was really little, so I called him by just the first half of his name." I recall him telling me. Mel nodded, still facing away. I hang my towel up and leave the restroom with Mel. Quickly I retreat to my room in the basement - I'm over my fear of basements.
Now in my room, I stared at myself in the vanity mirror I set up. I wanted it to resemble my childhood one, or even the Germany one, but Colby insisted I needed to think of a new 'everything' or my progress would be halted.
Progress you ask? My progress of getting over my first love. Have I been truthful with Colby about how I'm really feeling about my progress? I wouldn't dare.
I'm so glad nobody can read my thoughts anymore, but I still taught Daimon, Colby and Melgreth how to use the Block - just in case.
"I will not learn any more of Gabriel's tricks." Daimon argued.
"Dai..." Colby seemed to warn him, inching away from him slowly to avoid being caught in what happened next.
"I mean it. I will NOT-" Daimon suddenly fell as if he tripped over something, but nothing was in the way. He landed on his chin and he grunted in annoyance more so than pain. We don't really feel pain unless it's salt, iron, and whatever items exist that can take us out - which isn't much from what Mel believes.
My eyes turned to Mel, who stood there before Daimon, arms folded over her chest and tapping one foot on the ground over and over, much like an impatient mother. "Try that again, filho." She encouraged.
My elder brother scowled, getting up. "Fine, I will learn just this last trick. Then no more, and no more making me look weak in front of them, Mel."
"That's up to you." Mel insisted.
"You're not weak Dai," Colby promised him, returning to his original spot. "But I do think it's hilarious she can keep you in check like that."
Mel narrowed her eyes at Colby and he actually gulped. Within a second Colby lunged forward and smashed his face into the ground near the couches. I erupted into laughter at how easy and fast Mel made it happen.
"I'm glad I could entertain you, my Lady." Mel clapped lightly.
"How are you doing that, though?" I had to ask her.
Colby got up with a sour look but he kept quiet. "Lilith selected this meatsuit for me," Mel admitted. "She was an ancient witch."
I return from the memory and also turn away from my vanity. A witch made me think of Patrick, which made me think of that entire case - Sam playing poker against him to save Dean from dying of old age himself.
Dean and Sam.
Bobby.
Cas.
I sighed, slowly stepping over to my waterbed. I snap my fingers to fix my hair into a ponytail. That's right, I'm not going to touch a hairbrush, even after I've taken a shower. It was his job to style my hair as he did almost every day for fifteen years.
Now you get why I can't tell Colby how I feel about my progress?
On another day, it was going like it always did. Colby ended up moving into my room just like I called it. We were talking about animals, believe it or not (when you've been down here long enough you'll end up talking about anything and everything) when we heard Mel yelling from upstairs.
"My Lady! Someone's entered the Domain!"
Colby and I stared at each other with growing eyes. "Could it be-?" I almost guessed.
"Let's go see," Colby takes my hand and zaps us out of the basement. We reappear in the living room where Mel waited. Daimon stared out the window with narrowed eyes. "We're going to scout." Colby announced.
Mel nodded but Daimon continued to look out. Next we reappear at the barrier, and I'm begging internally I see anyone other than him.
My wish was granted, and they also blessed me with seeing Drew's handsome face. "Drew-?" I gasped anyway. He looked almost the same as the last time I saw him, only he was a little taller now.
"Lynn? Is that you?" Drew called out. "I thought I heard you, but it's so dark we can't see anything at all."
"We?" I repeated. "Who are you here with, and how did you get here? Colby, can you bring the moon over here?"
Drew didn't reply, instead standing there in astonishment as Colby snapped his fingers, and the blue moon instantly reappeared over us. "Holy shit!" A not-so high pitched female voice overpowered Drew's. "That's so cool! The moon is freaking BLUE!?"
With the increase of light, I could see their faces on the other side of the purple barrier. Drew was definitely standing there, his faithful cane at his side as he leaned on it.
"Yeah it's blue." Colby said in a stern voice, making himself known by stepping ahead of me and nearing the barrier.
"Drew, what are you doing here?" I asked my Nephilim friend. He's not my first Nephilim friend of course, but he's rightfully taken the number one spot though. He wore blue jeans and a dark colored t-shirt.
"We're here to get you out," Drew said, looking at Colby in half suspicion and half curiosity. "We need your help."
"Oh no, is Tei awake?" I made myself ask in terror.
"Aye!" Colby instantly glared at me. "Progress!"
As usual, he was promptly ignored. "Thankfully no!" Spoke the other female voice. I heard footsteps, and then a face finally appeared to match the voice to.
She looks just like my pen pal, Megan. You know, the one who has powers like me but kept them super secret, even in our letters over the years. Is this a dream? Is this really Megan? She looks just like the Megan from the memory he showed me, when he asked her if she'd seen me after I first disappeared.
"Megan?" I acknowledged.
She smiled even though she seemed surprised I knew her. "Yeah it's me. Good to see you again! Despite these circumstances."
Hearing her talk was so strange, even though I'd heard her speak in the memory. Have you ever read a book and eventually imagined your own voices for your favorite characters? I may or may not have done that with my pen pal.
Megan looks to be around my height. She stood next to Drew, who was taller. Her hair was long and blonde with familiar side bangs I remember as kids. Her eyes were similar to Drew's, a very pale blue. She wore shorts and a t-shirt with something on it, but the blue moon wasn't bright enough for me to see clearly. Call me crazy, but I may have seen a police box?
"It's good to see you too, I agree," I talk to Megan verbally for the first time in... I don't know. It was seven years prior to me coming here. I don't know how long it's been since that, and I mostly don't want to know. "If Tei's not awake, then what's going on?"
"Aye!" Colby came up and pouted at me.
"Colby," I shook my head. "This is Megan, and this is Drew."
Colby rubbed the back of his head, messing up his brown-blonde curls. I gently tousle his hair back into place. "The friend from childhood and the second Nephilim you've ever met. Nice to meet you guys." He said respectfully to them.
A new voice calls out from behind Megan and Drew. "Colby-?" I recognized it to be none other than Castiel. I asked him to protect Megan and Drew, so I'm not surprised he united them. In fact, I'm pretty excited.
Colby turns back to the barrier. "Yo!" He said. "That's me. Who are you?"
Castiel appears on Drew's other side. "Castiel. Your brother." He said like his usual self - bluntly and innocently. He'd said 'brother'. All angels were siblings, so it makes sense. Colby admitted to me he was originally an angel prior to him being a demon and being down here.
"Castiel?" Colby repeated, stepping closer to the barrier. "No way! You're still around!"
"Cas, you know that kid?" Megan asked, pointing at him.
"Kid?" Colby repeated in a laugh. "You're the kid!"
I cleared my throat. "What's going on?"
Both Megan and Drew looked to Cas, but he didn't get to speak. Instead, the owner of this Domain finally made himself known. The first words out of his mouth went way over my head in pure confusion.
"Princess Maya?!"
Daimon literally threw himself against the barrier, slamming both of his palms up against it. "Did you just say the princess?" Melgreth asked, coming up in between us. She took a glance at the newcomers and then gasped. "Oh dear! It couldn't be, could it? Princess Maya?"
I think they're looking and talking about Megan. She pointed at herself. "Who, me? I'm Megan. Megan Scott." She introduced.
"You look exactly like Princess Maya," Mel admitted. "I can't believe it."
Daimon lowered his hands. "That is not Princess Maya?" He expressed in great disappointment. I caught a hint of hurt flash through Megan's eyes but it disappeared as quickly as it came.
"I'm afraid not." Mel shook her head.
"Are you sure?" Daimon questioned. "Mel, her memory was taken from her. Surely she may have forgotten-"
"My name is MEGAN!" My childhood friend scolded, crossing her arms over her chest. "I'm not a princess, I'm the Chosen One!"
I gasped aloud, drawing everyone's attention. "You're the Chosen One?"
She nodded. Cas looked at me strangely. "How did you know that?"
"Chuck told me, sort of," I answered. "He had a vision and reached out to me." His words returned to me clearer than the blue moon's light could ever provide:
When you enter the Domain, stay there until you see the Chosen One.
I understand now. "It's time for to leave here."
Colby frowned. "Babe, you know you can't cross back." He reminded me calmly. Both Drew and Megan raised an eye at him. Weirdos.
However, Castiel was smiling. "That will no longer be the case."
Daimon stepped back, bringing Mel with him. "What do you mean?" He demanded.
Cas nodded at the other two. "Are you ready?" He asked them.
Megan clenched her fists with a grin. "Of course we are! We've been training our asses off to perform this technique!"
"Technique?" Mel wondered.
"Let's go, Drew." Megan started for them. In unison, their eyes began glowing angelically and they surrounded themselves in a holy aura. Drew leaned further in on his cane and Megan held out a fist towards the barrier. They seemed to strain themselves a little bit, but they looked confident.
Mel gasps loudly as a small hole began in the barrier before us, right in the middle. "Whoa!" Colby let out. "They can open it!?"
Mel looked at Drew. "It has to be the influence of the Nephilim." She decided. Daimon was silent, but I've never seen his eyes grow as wide as they were now. What is he feeling, I wonder? After centuries and centuries of Earth years multiplied by the awful time laws of Hell... what would you think if the one thing holding you back suddenly wasn't anymore?
The hole grew bigger, beginning to stretch towards the ground. I heard a painful grunt from Megan, causing me to check on my friends with just my eyes. Megan's nose was bleeding and Drew's eyes grew dark. "Guys?" I said to them in worry.
Megan gave me a thumbs up with her other hand.
The hole was now big enough to slip through, back to the other side. "Come on!" Cas yelled at us, motioning us to come through.
Strangely, none of us moved. We were all in pure shock that escape was actually possible. I turn and face my Domain family. "I'm only going if we all go together."
Something changed in Daimon's face. For the first time ever, I saw him smile. "Together." He said, coming up and taking my hand.
Mel grabbed Colby by his ear and used her demonic strength to throw him, by his ear, through the hole in the barrier. Then she walked through herself but very ladylike.
Daimon still held my hand, and I could tell he was nervous. "Come on, Brother." I took the lead and guided us. I stopped momentarily and looked up at him. "Do not look back. You will never, ever come back here. I'll make sure of it."
He looks at me deeply. "Promise?"
"I promise."
I plunged us through the hole and we crossed the barrier. Daimon's grip of my hand tightened. "Get us the hell OUT OF HERE!" I roared.
"With pleasure." Cas raised a hand, and everything went white. I had so many questions for him, Megan and Drew. For now, the next part of our journey was about to begin, and again I had no idea what to expect, except to stay together.
