Hey, everybody. Back with another chapter.
Let's get to it.
Rico: Some Republic remnants will be in this story. Also, Anakin Solo wasn't in this not only because I had Ahsoka name her son Anakin, but also simply because Han and Leia only had the twins in this story. They never had a third kid.
Peter Hong Kong: Poe will be sticking with the X-Wing. Also, not sure about Finn's weapons.
GREAT CELESTIAL DRAGON: I'm still planning on him being Force sensitive, but I'll build up to it very slowly.
Banzai Bill 28: I think my stories show I know a lot about Legends. I choose to do this based on the sequels because I do like them.
Guest: I'm thinking about it.
Chapter 14- The Incursion Begins
(Washington DC)
In the Oval Office, President Nantz is in the midst of a briefing by the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, General Jordan Sanders. The subject of the briefing is the current status of the Grysk War, and the progress of several battles currently ongoing in Sector 5.
"The battle on Ajax4b is growing more strained. The local commander was forced to expend the three nuclear warheads allocated to him in order to stop a major Grysk attack. The commander reports that the use of the warheads caused almost a million Grysk casualties. However, a new counterattack has pushed his forces almost to their breaking point again. He's requesting reinforcements amounting to at least three divisions, preferably 5," General Sanders says.
"We can't afford to spare that many troops for one battle," Nantz says, drawing on his own military experience. He pauses, then says, "It is of course up to the Joint Command for the final decision, but my recommendation is to divert one armored division and one infantry division to Ajax4b. We cannot afford to send any more unless a true emergency arises."
"I agree, Mr. President. However, if we are unable to send any more troops, I recommend we send one or two more nuclear warheads to Ajax4b," General Sanders says. Only the Executive or a member of the Security Council can authorize the transfer of nuclear warheads to various portions of the battlefield unless it is deemed an immediate emergency.
"Yes. Cleared," Nantz responds.
Suddenly, the door into the Oval Office bursts open and Vice President Hammons enters the room. Instantly, Nantz and Sanders recognize something is wrong. The look on his face shows that something has him almost panicked.
"John, what's wrong?" Nantz asks.
"Sir. We just received messages from both Admiral Jacobsen and General Organa. It appears that the First Order has constructed a superweapon we didn't know about. The messages from both Jacobsen and Organa both say that mere hours ago, the Hosnian system was destroyed by the First Order. No hope of any survivors from any worlds of the system. The New Republic's government and over half of their navy, all gone," Hammons says.
Nantz and Sanders sit there in stunned silence for a moment before Sanders manages to get out, "What?"
"The Hosnian System is completely destroyed, along with the Senate and half their fleet," Hammons repeats the message.
Nantz sits there, stunned at what he's just heard. Finally, he asks, "Are you certain?"
"Positive. That's exactly what both messages says," Hammons says.
Nantz slumps slightly in his seat, holding a hand to his forehead. Everything seems to be crashing down around him as he realizes the magnitude of the crisis unfolding before his eyes. Finally, he says, in a low voice imbued with the tone of someone trying to overcome a severe shock, "John, prepare a message to send out on all frequencies. Top Priority. I'm invoking the War Powers Act," referencing a law passed in 2013 after the Terran declaration of war on the Empire that gave the Executive the power to make certain decisions for the military in the right circumstances without needing to consult either the General Assembly or the Joint Command.
"Yes, Mr. President," Hammons responds.
"Include in the message: I am declaring a Defense Emergency in the Andromeda Galaxy. All Andromeda military and intelligence units are to move to a wartime footing and execute unrestricted warfare against any and all First Order forces and their allies. I want all reserve forces moved to maximum readiness, and ready 25 divisions for immediate deployment to Andromeda. Tell Admiral Jacobsen that until he receives further orders, he may carry out all combat operations as he sees fit with no need to communicate his moves to the Joint Command," Nantz says. He then looks at General Sanders and says, "I'm sorry. But I'm downgrading the reinforcements to Ajax4b to a single infantry division. And no further reinforcements may go out until we are able to determine which forces will be sent to Andromeda."
Nantz takes a deep breath, then says, "Call an immediate meeting of the Security Council and the Joint Command. We need to ready our response to this. Schedule a meeting of the General Assembly in three days to conduct a vote on a declaration of war." Nantz pauses before he says, "This is it. We're in it now."
(Andromeda Galaxy, Millennium Falcon)
In the cockpit of the Millenium Falcon, Han and Chewbacca are sitting in the pilots' seats while Ben and Finn are sitting in the passenger seats behind them.
"So, how are we getting in there?" Finn asks.
"The same way the Hammer Squadron is going to. Their shields have a fractional refresh rate. Keeps anything travelling slower than light speed from getting through," Han says.
"Umm, Uncle Han, this ship doesn't have the same tech available to it as the Hammer Squadron's fighters," Ben says, not sure that even his uncle could pull off a feat like this.
"Just hang tight," Han says. Chewie flips a few switches to ready the ship to come out of hyperspace.
Han reaches forward and grabs the hyperspace throttles, counting down the seconds. Then, he says suddenly, "And…now!" Han yanks back on the hyperspace throttles. The Falcon immediately drops out of hyperspace, revealing a cliff right in front of them.
Chewie howls in alarm and Han yanks back on the control, just avoiding hitting the cliff. The Falcon flies up along the face of the cliff. As it reaches the top of the cliff, Han pushes the Falcon's nose over and levels off the ship. However, this sends the Falcon smashing through the trees of a forest resting on top of the cliff.
The Falcon crashes through tree after tree, breaking each one while so far just sustaining minor dents in the front of the ship. Chewie is concerned about the effect of the impacts on the ship and howls at Han, who just responds, "I get any higher, they'll see us!"
A few seconds later, the Falcon finally smashes its way out of the forest, crashing to the snow covered ground. The Falcon skids along the ground for the length of several football fields before finally coming to rest right at the edge of a cliff overlooking the main First Order base overlooking the weapon.
Ben and Finn sit there in silence for a few moments before Ben says, "You really need to work on your landings, Han."
"We made it down," Han protests. Ben just shakes his head.
"Come on. Let's go," Finn urges, eager to get into the base and find Rey.
The group heads into the back of the ship, gathering their gear and weapons before they finally head out of the ship. The four of them walk up to the edge of the cliff, looking for the best way to the main base where Rey is likely to be found.
"Alright. Let's get down there," Ben says. Then, before anyone can say anything, Ben raises his hands, opening up to the Force. He takes hold of Han, Chewie, and Finn and raises them into the air.
"Wha-what's going on?" Finn asks, a little scared. Then, Ben moves them over the edge of the cliff into open air. Finn is starting to freak out a bit, but Han and Chewie are both calm. Ben moves them out far enough, then begins to lower them towards the ground far below. In less than a minute, they've reached the ground. Once Ben sees that the three of them are on the ground below, he follows them, leaping down the cliff, leaping to rocks that jut out from the cliff. It doesn't take him long to get down to the base of the cliff.
"Please don't do that again," Finn asks, a little razzled by the experience.
"No guarantees," Ben says with a smile. He then looks in the direction of the main base and says, "Let's do this."
And, I'll end there. Hope you liked this one.
So, the Battle of Starkiller Base and the rescue of Rey will actually last 3 to 4 chapters, covering both the action on the ground and the action in the sky. I'll also try and give a little bit better look at Kylo Ren's character in the times we see him.
Alright. Next chapter will be up soon. Until it's up, please leave a review and stay tuned!
