Hey, everybody. Back with another chapter.

Let's get to it.

Chapter 15- Return of the Hammer Squadron

In the cockpit of his starfighter, a middle aged Israeli starfighter pilot named Lieutenant Commander Daniel Malka makes one more check of his systems, ensuring that everything is positioned properly and all his systems are go.

Daniel is one of the 18 elite pilots that make up the Hammer Squadron. Daniel had served for almost 10 years in the Starfleet, and had gained a reputation as one of the very best starfighter pilots that the Starfleet had to offer. His reflexes were so quick some thought he might be Force sensitive, although tests had proven that not to be true. He was incredibly adept at low level flying, and was one of the most skilled dogfighters that the Squadron had.

"All pilots, prepare to drop out of hyperspace in 30 seconds," the squadron commander, Captain Parker, calls out over the radio.

"Copy that," Daniel responds. He then glances back, checking that his fighter is still in good shape.

Daniel, along with the rest of the Hammer Squadron, are all flying one of the Alliance's newest starfighters. The SF-39 Mustang II. The Mustang had been constructed at the end of the 2030s to replace the SF-15 and the SFA-18. The Squadron had finally transitioned from the SF-15 to the SF-39 in 2042.

The Mustang was one of the most capable fighters the Alliance had. Capable of carrying almost as much ordnance as the SF-15, it was also almost as fast. The Mustang also had four laser cannons, with two mounted on the wings and two more on the underside of the nose. The Mustang was also even more manueverable and responsive than the SF-15. The Mustang has also stealth technology that made it harder to detect at longer ranges. The Mustang was also fitted with the most advanced technology, including an incredibly advanced targeting system and a state of the art navigation system.

Daniel has been flying the Mustang for most of his career, and has been flying this particular Mustang ever since he joined the Squadron six years ago. Daniel has named the fighter "The Star of Daniel" as a hint towards his Jewish heritage and his Israeli nationality.

"10 seconds!" Captain Parker calls out.

Daniel grabs hold of the hyperspace throttles and readies himself, his eyes locked intently on his navigation system as the clock counts down the seconds until he needs to drop out of hyperspace. Then, right as the clock runs out, Daniel yanks back on the hyperdrive throttles, and the Mustang drops out of hyperspace.

Instantly, the 8 Mustangs drop out of hyperspace within Ilum's atmosphere, about 30,000 feet above the surface. Immediately, Captain Parker calls out, "Hammer Attack!"

The eight pilots separate into pairs. The 8 advance Hammer Squadron pilots had each been assigned in pairs one of the shield generators to hit before the rest of the strike force.

Daniel and his wingman bank hard right to find their target. Daniel advances the throttles, and he and his wingman accelerate to Mach 1.4. Daniel calls out over the radio, "Kenzo, arm your Paveways." Lieutenant Kenzo Hatanaka has been Daniel's wingman for the last 2 years, and the two of them get along incredibly well.

Both Daniel and Kenzo arm the 1,000 pound laser guided bombs hanging under their wings. It doesn't take them long to reach their target. The shield generator they had been assigned to target was partly secluded, positioned within a crack in a small mountain that mostly protected the shield generator.

As the Mustangs are diving towards their targets, the First Order are only just beginning to notice that they are under attack. The First Order are aware of the existence of the Mustang. In the main control center of Starkiller Base, a controller calls out to General Hux, "General, 8 Terran starfighters within the shield."

Hux is momentarily surprised, wondering how they got through the shield. However, he quickly recovers and orders, "Dispatch all squadrons."

The base's TIE pilots start hurrying to their TIE fighters. However, it's too late to stop the attack on the shield generators.

Above their target, Daniel and Kenzo form up, and Daniel dives steeply towards the generator, with Kenzo following a few seconds later. Daniel lines up his nose and then starts aiming his laser targeting pod. Daniel fires the targeting laser, then punches the pickle button and calls out over the radio, "Bombs away!"

The two bombs fall from under the wings as Daniel pulls up into a climb. The bombs impact on either side of the crack and explode, blasting massive chunks out of the rock and causing light damage to the generator. However, although they don't destroy the generator, the bombs leave a massive gap for Kenzo's bombs.

At almost the same moment as the bombs explode, Kenzo, now in a dive of his own, fires the targeting laser, and once it is locked on the target, drops two Paveways on the generator before pulling into a climb. Seconds later, both bombs hit perfectly on target, completely wrecking the generator.

"Target destroyed!" Daniel calls out over the radio.

At three other locations, three more shield generators have been destroyed. The planetary shield quickly falls, leaving the planet completely exposed.

Captain Parker quickly sees on his sensors that the shield is down. He smiles and gets on the radio frequency used by the strike force. "This is Captain Parker to all Alliance and Resistance fighters. Starkiller Base shield is down."

"Copy that," Poe Dameron, who is still in hyperspace with the rest of the strike force calls out over the radio. He flips a switch and then calls out, "Red Squad, Blue Squad, Hammer Squad, take me lead."

"Dropping out of lightspeed," one of the other Resistance pilots calls out.

In a matter of seconds, the Resistance fighters and the remaining members of the Hammer Squadron drop out of hyperspace. The Resistance had sent a dozen X-Wings and 4 SFA-181s to carry out the attack. They are also joined by the other 10 members of the Hammer Squadron.

Poe leads the way down into the atmosphere. As the fighters fly into a canyon leading towards the thermal oscillator, the eight advance Hammer Squadron pilots streak in from a spot just south-west of the oscillator and join the formation.

"Alright, almost in range! Hit the target dead center, as many runs as we can get! Let's light it up!" Poe calls over the radio.

The strike force dives down towards the oscillator at an angle of about 50 degrees. Poe, leading the way, fires a pair of proton torpedoes down at the oscillator. Each of the other Resistance fighters adds a pair of proton torpedoes, while each of the Hammers drop a pair of 1,000 pound bombs. Dozens of torpedoes and bombs impact the top of the oscillator, exploding on impact but unable to make it through the thickness of the oscillator's surface.

"Direct hit!" one of the Resistance pilots cheers prematurely.

"But no damage!" Another calls out to curtail any celebration.

"Keep hitting that oscillator until we have no more ordnance left," Captain Parker calls out over the radio, already looping his Mustang around for a second bombing run.

However, as Poe is pulling around , BB-8 is swiveling his head around and spots swarms of TIE fighters heading straight for them. Over a hundred TIEs.

BB-8 beeps a warning to Poe. Poe swivels his head and immediately calls out on the radio, "Guys, we got a lot of company!"

"All pilots, engage!" Parker orders.

All of the Resistance and Alliance pilots turn in the direction of the incoming TIEs. The Hammers are able to turn quickly towards the incoming TIEs and are able to loose off a few missiles, downing three TIE fighters. One of them is from Daniel, scoring his first kill of the battle. Daniel already has 59 kills from his time in the Grysk War.

However, only a moment later, the two sides merge, and a flurry of laser fire streaks between the fighters, downing two TIE fighters as the furious dogfight begins.

Daniel grits his teeth as he streaks through the TIEs, centering one TIE in his gunsight and blowing it apart. Daniel dives slightly and turns hard right to avoid two TIEs in front of him while swiveling his head looking for another target. This is a complication they don't need. If they can't handle the TIE fighters quickly, they won't have enough time to destroy the oscillator.

This is the fight of their lives.

And, I'll end the chapter there.

So, Daniel will be one of the major characters of this story, and the Hammer Squadron pilot we will focus on the most. He'll kinda be the Jonathan Page of this story.

Next chapter will be a bit longer, and will be up tomorrow. Until it's up, please leave a review, and stay tuned!
