A/U: Minor changes to Season 1 of Stargate as seen in Prologue. Chapter 1 takes place during the Season 1 finale and the Season 2 premiere.
Author's Note: Prologue 1-3 / Season 1 of SG-1 takes place during the Shadows of the Empire and Return of the Jedi chapters of Wonderland: Down the Rabbit Hole. Chapter 1 takes place approximately a month after the vote by the United Nations seen at the end of Down the Rabbit Hole.
When I said there were minor changes to Season 1. This is to reflect SG-1 being included in my Wonderland Series. Prior to Season 1 of SG-1 Earth was still within the pocket dimension. Ernest Littlefeld's use of the Stargate in 1945 (as seen in Torment of Tantalus), approximately 60 years before Earth reverts back to the Galaxy, will be seen as a fluke, I'm still working on details for that. Maybe I will use my deus ex machina, Revan, and have him help send Ernest to the planet in question.
Prologue 1: Nox
September, 2008
Nox Homeworld
Jack, Teal'c, Daniel, and Sam trudged over the rocky ridge, their hearts sinking as they reached the summit. Before them, where the Stargate should have stood, there was only emptiness.
"This is where the Stargate should be," Teal'c's deep voice rumbled, his brow furrowed in disbelief.
As if materializing from the very air itself, Anteaus appeared before them, his expression grave. "We sent your enemy through the doorway," he intoned solemnly.
"They'll be back," Jack replied sharply, his eyes narrowing with concern.
"When you are gone, we will bury it," Anteaus stated firmly, his voice tinged with a hint of resignation.
Jack sighed heavily, the weight of their predicament settling upon him like an unshakable burden. "They'll come in ships next time; they'll bring an army," he murmured, his words carrying the weight of impending doom.
"Perhaps," Anteaus said softly, his gaze thoughtful as Nafrayu materialized beside him, a slight smile on his youthful face. "He wanted to wish you farewell."
Jack's tension eased slightly, a genuine smile spreading across his face at the sight of Nafrayu unharmed. "I'm glad you're okay," he said warmly.
Nafrayu nodded earnestly. "And you. We sent your weapons back through the doorway," he added, his voice tinged with relief.
"Yeah, speaking of the Stargate…" Jack began, his expression growing serious once more.
"You fear for us, yes?" Anteaus interjected gently, his piercing gaze fixed on Jack.
"Yes," Jack affirmed without hesitation, his voice tinged with concern.
"Why?" Anteaus pressed further, his curiosity laced with a hint of challenge.
"It is our way that the strong defend the weak," Teal'c stated solemnly, his unwavering conviction cutting through the tension.
Jack nodded solemnly, his concern deepening. "We're afraid for you."
"Before you go, O'Neill, there is something we would have you see," Anteaus said, his voice carrying a hint of solemnity as he raised his hand. With a wave, a majestic city materialized in the sky behind them, its ethereal presence leaving them momentarily speechless.
"Oh my God," Jack breathed, his eyes widening in awe and disbelief at the sight before him.
"Fear not," Anteaus reassured them, his demeanor serene. "For our ally is the Force."
"The Force?" Sam questioned, her brow furrowing with confusion.
"As my master would have said," Anteaus continued, his tone reverent. "It is an energy field that surrounds and binds us. We can feel it because of the midichlorians."
"Midiwhatsits?" Jack interjected; his confusion palpable.
"Midichlorians," Anteaus repeated patiently. "Without the midichlorians, life could not exist. It is because of them we have knowledge of the Force. They continually speak to us, telling us the will of the Force."
"And you're able to hide that city because of…" Daniel's voice trailed off, his curiosity piqued.
"Yes," Anteaus affirmed calmly. "But fear not, even if we did not feel the Force. We are friends of the Alliance to Restore the Republic. We would but need to send out a communication and they would send ships to help defend us." With a wave of his hand, the Stargate appeared already activated. "So, do not fear for us. The Goa'uld do not pose a threat to us."
With a suddenness that mirrored their arrival, Anteaus and Nafrayu vanished from sight. Jack's gaze shifted from where they had stood back to the now-vanished floating city. "Why didn't he tell us about this before?" he questioned aloud, a mix of frustration and realization in his tone.
"I think, in their way, they did," Daniel mused, his eyes following the lingering imprint of the city's image.
"It appears they possess a form of technology far greater than that of the Goa'uld," Teal'c remarked, his expression unreadable yet contemplative.
"I'm not so sure it is technology," Daniel countered, drawing their attention. "By the sounds of it, it's maybe something much more. Some sort of power."
"Power?" Jack echoed skeptically, raising an eyebrow.
Daniel shrugged, acknowledging the speculative nature of his assertion.
"Regardless," Sam interjected softly; her voice tinged with empathy. "They looked so helpless…"
"And now they're going to bury the Stargate, and we can never come back. We should've listened," Daniel lamented, his words heavy with regret.
Jack nodded thoughtfully. "The very young do not always do as they're told," he reflected, meeting the puzzled stares of Daniel, Teal'c, and Sam. "Just a little something the Nox told me one time. Something worth taking home."
Cheyenne Mountain Complex
Two hours later, back at Stargate Command, SG-1 found themselves seated in the familiar confines of the briefing room, facing General Hammond as they meticulously went over their mission report.
"So," Hammond began, his voice tinged with a mix of curiosity and skepticism. "They themselves have the ability to cause something to become invisible?"
"From what Anteaus said," Daniel responded thoughtfully, his brow furrowed in contemplation. "They could do it by using the Force."
"And you believe, Doctor Jackson," Hammond pressed further, leaning forward slightly. "This is some kind of metaphysical power?"
"I don't know what to believe," Daniel admitted honestly, his voice carrying a hint of uncertainty. "But what they told us made it sound like that was what it was."
"What about this Alliance to Restore the Republic?" Hammond inquired, shifting his focus to the geopolitical implications of their encounter.
Jack shrugged nonchalantly, his expression reflecting a mix of intrigue and reservation.
"We've never heard of it," Sam chimed in, her tone reflective of the thorough research they had conducted. "No one else that we have come across so far has mentioned it before."
As the discussion unfolded, the mystery surrounding the enigmatic Nox and their allies deepened, leaving SG-1 grappling with newfound questions and uncertainties about the larger universe beyond their known encounters with the Goa'uld and other races.
Prologue 2: Singularity
October, 2008
Hanka
On the world of Hanka, Jack ascended a platform where a powerful telescope awaited, poised just as a singularity of a black hole began its mesmerizing formation.
"It's showtime!" Jack declared with a mix of excitement and wonder.
"The systems are online. The eclipse has reached its totality," Teal'c reported, his voice steady and calm amidst the cosmic spectacle unfolding above.
"Whoa," Jack breathed in awe as he peered through the telescope's monitor, captivated by the celestial ballet before him. Suddenly, his focus shifted to two distinct, pulsating lights approaching amidst the cosmic darkness. "What are those?"
"Stars, perhaps," Teal'c speculated with his usual stoicism.
"Hit the zoom," Jack commanded urgently, his eyes fixed on the mysterious lights. As the image zoomed in, revealing more detail, Jack shook his head. "No, they're way too close to be stars. Pull back."
The telescope obediently reversed its view, withdrawing to reveal the unmistakable shapes of two looming spaceships against the backdrop of the black hole's gravitational dance.
"What the hell are they?" Jack muttered; his concern palpable as he tried to discern their origins.
"One of them is a Goa'uld attack vessel," Teal'c informed, his voice tinged with the gravity of the situation. "I do not know for sure about the other."
Jack's gaze darted to Teal'c, his expression reflecting a mixture of concern and urgency as the monitor displayed the approaching ships.
"The Goa'uld attack vessel is the ship of the Goa'uld Nirrti. An enemy of Apophis. The other I believe may be a ship of the Empire. But I do not know for certain," Teal'c explained, his voice steady despite the gravity of the situation.
"Empire?" Jack questioned, his brow furrowing in disbelief. "What Empire?"
"The Galactic Empire," Teal'c responded solemnly, his tone carrying a weight of caution. "They control three-quarters of the galaxy. I myself have never seen one of their ships or any of their people. But the Goa'uld have an uneasy treaty with them."
"They have…" Jack trailed off, struggling to process this new piece of information. "I thought…"
"The Goa'uld do not make treaties lightly," Teal'c interjected, his voice firm with conviction. "And the ones they do, they do for a reason."
Just then, an ominous object detached from the Goa'uld ship, descending ominously towards the planet's surface.
"Now, what the hell is that?" Jack exclaimed, his voice tinged with urgency and alarm.
"We must go," Teal'c stated firmly, his expression betraying a rare sense of urgency that Jack knew all too well. When Teal'c said they had to move, there was no room for hesitation.
As they turned to flee, their worst fears were confirmed as several more objects emerged from the mysterious ship hovering above them. The urgency of their escape heightened as the sky erupted with the menacing roar of Death Gliders and two unfamiliar H-shaped vessels in pursuit.
"Overhead!" Jack shouted, adrenaline coursing through him as he and Teal'c dodged the lethal blasts that erupted around them, narrowly avoiding being hit.
"We must get to the Stargate!" Teal'c's voice boomed with determination amidst the chaos.
"No argument from me!" Jack replied breathlessly, his mind racing with the realization that they were facing not just one, but multiple formidable adversaries.
"This Goa'uld Nirrti once sent an emissary of peace to negotiate a treaty concerning a Stargate Apophis had taken control of. The negotiation was a ploy. The Stargate was destroyed," Teal'c explained tersely, his words carrying the weight of bitter experience and the stark reality of Goa'uld treachery.
"How?" Jack asked urgently, his voice laced with concern and curiosity as they sprinted towards the awaiting Stargate.
"As soon as the emissary entered the Stargate, there was a massive explosion," Teal'c explained grimly, his pace unwavering as he swiftly approached the glowing ring.
Jack's brow furrowed in thought, his mind racing to piece together the puzzle. "The girl?" he pressed, seeking confirmation amidst the chaos surrounding them.
Teal'c nodded solemnly, his expression tightening with resolve as he reached the DHD (Dial Home Device) and swiftly began inputting the coordinates. The familiar chevrons lit up in sequence, signaling the imminent activation of the wormhole.
A heartbeat later, the event horizon shimmered to life before them, a swirling portal of safety and uncertainty in equal measure. Jack wasted no time, pulling out his GDO (Garage Door Opener) and swiftly entering his authentication code. The familiar chirp of acceptance echoed through the clearing as they stepped through the rippling surface.
Cheyenne Mountain Complex
SG-1 emerged from the swirling vortex of the wormhole into the Gate Room, their boots crunching over debris scattered across the floor. Jack's eyes quickly scanned the chaotic scene, settling on the young girl standing amidst the wreckage.
"Get the girl away from the Gate!" Jack's voice rang out with urgency as he swiftly rose to his feet, his instincts honed from years of navigating dangerous missions kicking into high gear.
In a flurry of activity, they managed to secure the young girl to safety, ushering her away from the immediate vicinity of the Stargate. Once the initial rush subsided and the Gate Room was secured, SG-1 gathered for a briefing with General Hammond.
"So, the Goa'uld kept SG-7 from coming back through to warn us. All part of the plan," Jack explained, his tone grim as he recounted their discovery on Hanka.
"So, what are we going to do now?" Daniel's voice cut through the tense silence, his expression reflecting the weight of their predicament.
"Teal'c, Dr. Fraiser says the device inside the girl is on some sort of timer. You're sure it will go off if we send the girl through the Stargate?" Hammond's voice was measured, his concern evident as he turned to Teal'c for confirmation.
Teal'c nodded solemnly, his gaze unwavering. "We should not attempt it. The Earth Gate is what the Goa'uld wish to destroy."
"Cassandra's condition deteriorated once she got near the Stargate," Sam interjected, her voice tinged with professional concern as she relayed the medical implications of their findings.
"Well, I can't risk the security of this mountain. We'll have to take her somewhere else," Hammond stated firmly, his concern for the safety of Stargate Command palpable.
"What about the abandoned nuclear facility in…" Jack began to suggest, only to be swiftly cut off by Hammond.
"Right," Hammond interjected, nodding in agreement. "It's just twenty minutes away. We'll secure the area and ensure it's safe for her there."
"Sir," Jack continued, his voice serious as he leaned in closer to Hammond. "Once we're done with this, there's something else you should know."
Hammond met Jack's gaze with a steady nod, his expression grave as he turned and walked purposefully into his office. Picking up the phone with a determined grip, he dialed swiftly, his voice leaving no room for delay.
"This is Major General Hammond. Get me the Secretary of Defense immediately," Hammond instructed crisply, his tone carrying the weight of urgency. "Tell him it's a matter of life and death."
Abandoned Nuclear Facility
SG-1, along with Cassandra, sat in the back of a military transport as they approached the abandoned nuclear facility. The tension in the air was palpable as they prepared to transfer her to what they hoped would be a safer location.
"I can take her from here now, Captain," Jack stated firmly as they disembarked and began making their way towards the facility entrance.
Sam shook her head resolutely. "No sir, that's okay," she replied with determination, leading Cassandra towards the waiting elevator.
"This elevator goes down thirty floors through solid rock. Takes about three minutes to get to the bottom. That gives you four minutes to start back up," Jack explained, his voice tinged with urgency and instructions for Sam as they stepped into the confined space of the elevator.
Sam nodded in acknowledgment as the doors slid shut, sealing them in. Jack, Daniel, and Teal'c watched tensely as the elevator descended, each passing second amplifying their concern.
Just over three minutes later, the elevator began its ascent. Relief washed over the faces of SG-1, only to turn to alarm as suddenly, without warning, the elevator stopped and started descending once more.
"Jack, she's going back down," Daniel's voice cut through the tension, his eyes wide with apprehension.
"The hell she is. Captain Carter? Captain Carter," Jack's voice rang out urgently as he rushed over to the intercom panel in the facility's control room. "Sam, do you read me?"
"Colonel, I'm staying," Sam's voice came through, firm and unwavering despite the escalating situation.
Jack frowned deeply; his concern etched across his face. "Negative."
"Colonel, she's awake," Sam continued, her tone tinged with a mix of urgency and determination.
"Oh, God," Daniel muttered under his breath, his eyes darting between Jack and the monitors displaying vital signs from below.
"Captain Carter, I am ordering you to get back up here, right now. Right now," Jack insisted urgently, his frustration and fear palpable as he exchanged glances with Teal'c and Daniel. "All right, why don't you guys clear out."
Daniel and Teal'c shared a silent look, their expressions mirroring the gravity of the moment. Turning back to Jack, they shook their heads in silent agreement, they weren't leaving.
Jack nodded; his jaw set with determination. "Right." He watched the seconds tick down on his watch, each passing moment fraught with tension. "All right, here we go. Three … two … one …"
As his watch reached zero, a tense silence filled the room. Nothing happened.
"I don't feel anything," Daniel remarked, his voice laden with uncertainty as he glanced around the control room, searching for any sign of imminent danger.
"We could have been wrong about the time," Jack suggested, his brow furrowed in contemplation as he considered the possibility of a miscalculation.
"We could have been wrong about what would happen," Daniel countered, his concern deepening as they awaited Captain Carter's response.
"Captain Carter? Can you hear me?" Jack pressed the intercom button anxiously. "Sam, can you hear me?"
There was a brief moment of tense silence before Sam's voice crackled through the intercom, her tone a mix of relief and exhaustion. "We're okay. Nothing happened. Cassandra's fine, I'm fine. It didn't happen. I just … I couldn't leave her, sir."
Jack couldn't help but smile, a mixture of pride and gratitude washing over him. "How did you know, Captain?"
"It occurred to me that she first slipped into the coma when we brought her closer to the Stargate. As soon as we got her far enough away from the Stargate, she woke up. And I … knew," Sam explained, her voice steady despite the emotional strain of the past hours.
Cheyenne Mountain Complex
Two hours later, back at Stargate Command, SG-1 gathered in the briefing room with General Hammond. The atmosphere was still charged with the tension of recent events, but there was a sense of relief in the air as Dr. Fraiser provided her update.
"The object is shrinking," Fraiser announced, her voice carrying a note of optimism. "Once it's completely reabsorbed into her system, there should be no further threat to the Stargate, no matter how close she comes to it."
"That is good news, Doctor," Hammond said, nodding appreciatively as Frasier left the room. His attention then turned to Jack, his expression shifting to one of anticipation. "Now, Colonel, you mentioned earlier that there is something you needed to bring to my attention."
Jack exchanged a look with Teal'c before focusing on Hammond. "On Hanka, when we spotted the Goa'uld ship, we also saw another. Teal'c didn't recognize it, but he believes it may have come from a group that controls the remainder of the galaxy."
Hammond's eyebrows shot up in surprise. "I thought the Goa'uld controlled the majority of the galaxy."
Teal'c shook his head solemnly. "No, General Hammond, they do not. They control only this portion," he explained, motioning to a galactic map on the wall. "The Galactic Empire controls the majority of it."
"And who are they?" Hammond asked, his curiosity piqued and concern deepening.
"I do not know," Teal'c admitted. "All the Jaffa knows is that the Goa'uld have a non-aggression treaty with the Empire. No Jaffa to my knowledge has ever seen them face to face; their troops wear white armor from head to toe. And the person the Goa'uld has dealt with in negotiations is clad from head to toe in black armor. No one has seen either the leader or his troops' faces. It is rare to even see them in Goa'uld space."
A heavy silence fell over the room as the implications of Teal'c's words sank in. The existence of a powerful, enigmatic force controlling the majority of the galaxy added a new layer of complexity to their already daunting mission.
Hammond leaned back in his chair, his expression thoughtful and grave. "This changes things. We need to gather as much information as possible about this Galactic Empire and their intentions. Colonel O'Neill, your team will be tasked with finding out everything you can about them."
Jack nodded, determination hardening his features. "Understood, sir. We'll do whatever it takes."
As the briefing concluded, the members of SG-1 felt the weight of their new mission settling upon their shoulders. The discovery of the Galactic Empire signaled a new chapter in their ongoing struggle.
Prologue 3: Enigma
January, 2009
Volcanic World
Sam, Jack, Teal'c, and Daniel exited the Stargate, only to be greeted by the sight of a volcano violently erupting in the near distance. The sky was darkened with ash, and the ground trembled beneath their feet.
"Wow!" Sam exclaimed, her eyes wide with shock and awe. "None of this was going on when we sent the probe through."
"What's this stuff in the air?" Daniel asked, his voice tinged with concern as he observed the thick particles swirling around them.
"Ash," Teal'c said simply, his tone calm despite the chaotic scene.
Jack nodded, assessing the situation quickly. "All right, Daniel. Dial it up, get us out of here."
"No argument," Daniel replied, already moving towards the DHD. But as he approached, something in the near distance caught his eye. "Wait a minute. There's something out there." Curiosity and concern piqued, he walked over to investigate. He knelt down beside a motionless figure, brushing away the ash to reveal a woman's face. "It's a woman, she's alive. There's more—hurry you guys."
Jack, Sam, and Teal'c quickly joined him, their training kicking in as they began checking the other bodies scattered around. The ground continued to shake as the volcano spewed molten rock and ash into the sky, the air growing increasingly difficult to breathe.
"There's no life here," Teal'c declared, his voice cutting through the thick air as he surveyed the desolate landscape.
"This one's had it," Sam added grimly, checking another body and finding no signs of life.
Daniel, his face set with determination, gently brushed ash from the face of one of the victims. "It's just like Pompeii. Everyone died of suffocation before the lava started to flow," he murmured, his fingers tracing the contours of the person's arm until he stumbled upon an unusual device strapped to it. "What are these things?" he wondered aloud, curiosity mingling with sorrow.
"O'Neill! There are two more alive," Teal'c called out, his keen eyes spotting movement amidst the ash-covered bodies.
Jack's head snapped towards Teal'c, his mind racing. "Carter? How long before we're toast?" he asked, urgency tightening his voice.
Sam shrugged, frustration and helplessness evident in her expression. "I don't know, Sir. I'm not a volcanologist. It could be days, it could be minutes," she admitted, the uncertainty of their situation weighing heavily on her.
One of the victims, a middle-aged man with ash-streaked hair, raised his head weakly as Sam checked his pulse. His eyes fluttered open, filled with pain and desperation. "Don't … help us," he whispered, his voice barely audible over the rumble of the distant volcano.
Cheyenne Mountain Complex
Sam, Jack, Teal'c, Daniel, and several medical personnel hurriedly assisted the victims down the ramp, the urgency of their movements underscored by the dire situation they had just escaped.
"Move away. Give them some room," a medic instructed, his voice firm yet calm as he directed his team to create space for the injured.
Jack, his face streaked with ash and sweat, glanced around to ensure everyone was following the medic's orders. "All right. Let's go," he said, his tone commanding but strained from the recent ordeal.
A medic approached Jack, concern evident in his eyes. "You okay?" he asked, noting Jack's weariness.
Jack nodded, offering a reassuring but tired smile. "Yeah," he replied, though his body ached with exhaustion.
As Jack and Sam sat down on the ramp, trying to catch their breath, General Hammond approached, his expression a mix of relief and concern. "Colonel O'Neill? What happened?" he asked, his authoritative voice tinged with worry.
Jack looked up at Hammond, still panting slightly from the exertion. "We encountered some very severe volcanic activity, Sir," he said, breathlessly. His eyes flicked to the ash-covered victims being tended to by the medics. "It was a damn nightmare out there."
Hammond turned to Daniel who rubbed his left eye. "Who are all these people?"
"We don't really know, Sir. They were all dead and dying around the Gate. The air was highly toxic," Sam said.
Daniel nodded in agreement. "And hot."
"You better have Doctor Fraiser take a look at you. We'll debrief as soon as you're ready," Hammond said, his concern evident despite his firm tone.
"Yes, Sir," Jack replied, acknowledging the order with a weary nod.

Two hours later, in the briefing room, Jack, Sam, Teal'c, and Daniel sat across from General Hammond, their expressions a mix of exhaustion and determination. The mission had been harrowing, but they had made it back with a significant discovery.
"You evacuated ten people from an alien planet, Colonel. Doctor Fraiser says they're all human, and it looks like they're going to live. This was one hell of a rescue operation," Hammond said, his tone both commendatory and serious.
"Thank you, Sir," Jack replied, his voice carrying a hint of relief. Despite the chaos, they had succeeded in their primary mission.
Hammond's eyes narrowed as he delved deeper into the details. "There were no buildings in the area of any kind?"
Sam shook her head. "No, Sir. We don't know how far they walked, but it looked like they were trying to make it back to the Stargate."
"What do we know about these devices they were wearing?" Hammond asked, his curiosity piqued.
Sam leaned forward, her scientific mind eager to dissect the mystery. "Well, they all emit low levels of radiation indicating an operative energy source, but there's no circuitry, moving parts, or chips. We've never seen anything like it."
"I thought at first that they were from a parallel culture, but it looks like they might be way ahead of us," Daniel added, his excitement evident. "It's possible they could be from the Alliance or the Empire we heard about before."
Hammond's brow furrowed as he considered this new information. "We've determined humans on other planets originated here on Earth, right?"
Sam nodded, though her expression was thoughtful. "From what little we know about the Alliance and the Empire, that belief may no longer be entirely true. The Goa'uld may have taken humans from Earth, yes, but there could have been parallel evolution of humans on other worlds as well. We just don't know yet."
"And from what we've seen of the Empire on PX8 987 and heard of the Alliance from the Nox," Hammond said, his voice grave. "These people could be more advanced than us as well."
Daniel nodded thoughtfully. "Yes. Umm … we'd be colonizing space right now if it hadn't been for the Dark Ages. There was a period of over eight hundred years where science was heresy and anathema. Maybe they didn't have that setback."
The room fell into a contemplative silence as the weight of Daniel's words sank in. The thought of a civilization advancing uninterrupted by historical setbacks was both intriguing and daunting. It painted a picture of what humanity could have achieved, had it not been for its own self-imposed limitations.
Just then, an airman walked into the room, breaking the moment of reflection. "General Hammond? The spokesperson for the rescued people is awake. He'd like to speak with you. All of you."
Hammond looked around the table, seeing the mix of curiosity and readiness on the faces of his team. "Let's go," he said, standing up. "This might be our chance to get some answers."
SG-1 followed Hammond out of the briefing room, their footsteps echoing in the corridor. The air was charged with anticipation as they made their way to the infirmary, where the survivors were being treated.
Inside, they found Doctor Fraiser standing next to a bed where a middle-aged man with an air of quiet dignity was sitting up, his eyes alert and intelligent. Despite the exhaustion etched into his features, there was a calm strength about him.
"General Hammond," Fraiser greeted, stepping aside to allow the team closer.
The man inclined his head, his eyes narrowing with a mix of caution and curiosity. "Who are you?" he asked, his voice carrying a weight of authority and uncertainty.
"I'm Major General Hammond," Hammond said, his tone steady and reassuring. "This is Colonel O'Neill."
"Jack," Jack interjected with a nod, trying to convey a sense of camaraderie.
"Samantha Carter," Sam said, offering a small, friendly smile.
"Uh… Daniel Jackson," Daniel added, his curiosity evident as he studied the man's reaction.
The man's gaze flickered between them, trying to piece together the unfamiliar faces and surroundings. "Where is this place?" he finally asked, his voice tinged with confusion.
"You're on a planet called Earth," Hammond replied gently. "These people saved you."
For a moment, the man seemed to process this information, his brows furrowing in disbelief. He shook his head slowly, his expression darkening with skepticism. "Nothing could be further from the truth."
Hammond looked over at Jack, his eyebrows raised in surprise at the man's audacious comment.
"Well, unless I missed something, you're ... better off here than you were there," Daniel said, his tone a mix of confusion and diplomacy.
The man shook his head. "There was a rescue transport on the way," he replied, his voice carrying a note of defiance.
Jack's expression hardened. "Well, half your people were already dead. I don't think it would have gotten there in time."
The man's eyes narrowed, his demeanor defensive. "Perhaps that's more of a problem for you than it was for us."
Jack's patience was wearing thin. "Beg your pardon?" he asked, his tone clipped.
"I find it unbelievable that anyone so primitive could have deciphered the Gate system," the man said, his disdain evident.
"Did you say primitive?" Jack echoed; his voice tinged with incredulity.
"I too am from a world very different from this one. Here, life is highly valued," Teal'c said, his deep voice filled with conviction.
The man, still skeptical, raised an eyebrow. "Quite a statement for a Jaffa."
Hammond, sensing the need to steer the conversation towards concrete information, interjected. "Sir, I'd like to know who you are and what you know about the Goa'uld. Additionally, if you have any knowledge of the Galactic Empire or the Alliance to Restore the Republic, that would be invaluable."
The man straightened, his gaze steady. "I am Omoc. Our world is called Tollana."
"And what do you know of the Goa'uld, the Jaffa, the Galactic Empire, and the Alliance to Restore the Republic?" Hammond asked, leaning forward slightly, his curiosity piqued.
Omoc's expression remained impassive. "We are aware of all of them; we do not interact with any of them."
Hammond nodded, absorbing this information. "Well then, at least as far as the Goa'uld are concerned, we share a common enemy."
"Did I mention an enemy?" Omoc asked, his tone cool and unwavering.
Hammond, sensing the tension in the room, tried to defuse it diplomatically. "I only meant … it might benefit everyone if your people and ours could be friends."
Omoc's eyes narrowed as he fixed his gaze on Hammond. "I demand you return everything that you have taken from us and allow us to go home."
Jack, always ready to lighten the mood, stepped in with a casual remark. "Well, it could take a while for those volcanoes to quiet down. In the meantime, I'm a bit of a culture buff. I'd like to learn about your history and customs."
Omoc shook his head firmly, his expression closed off. "I've said enough. I'll say no more."
With that final statement, the atmosphere in the room grew tense once more. It was clear that Omoc was not willing to disclose more information or engage further in discussions at that moment.

SG-1 and Hammond persisted in their efforts to establish rapport with the Tollans, attempting various approaches to bridge the cultural gap. They explored potential resettlement options on other planets, hoping to find a suitable environment that the Tollans would find more compatible than Earth's.
After several unsuccessful attempts, Sam finally made a breakthrough during a visit with Narim. It was during this conversation that Narim, perhaps feeling a sense of trust or obligation, began to open up about galactic affairs.
"You have asked about the Galactic Empire and the Alliance to Restore the Republic," Narim began, his voice measured yet forthcoming. "A little over twenty years ago, the Republic was dissolved and replaced by the Empire. Chancellor Palpatine was named Emperor for life."
Sam listened intently, knowing this information could be crucial in understanding Tollan perspectives and potential allies.
"Were your people …" Sam started, about to ask if the Tollans had been involved with the Republic.
"No," Narim answered before she could finish. "Our old homeworld was on the very edge of the galaxy. Goa'uld space separated us from them. But traders from Outer Rim worlds, who were brave enough to travel into what they labeled the Unknown Regions, regularly brought us news about the rest of the galaxy. From what we learned from these traders, the Empire is not one that you want to deal with. It is a dictatorship. The Alliance to Restore the Republic, we have heard, wants to restore democracy. If they succeed, you might consider reaching out to them. The Republic did not have the same qualms we have when it comes to giving out technology."
Sam nodded thoughtfully, appreciating Narim's candid insight. "Thank you for telling me."
"You are welcome, Samantha," Narim replied, his demeanor still guarded but showing a hint of willingness to continue the dialogue.

After Lya had safely escorted the Tollans to the Nox homeworld, SG-1 regrouped back in the briefing room. Sam took the opportunity to brief General Hammond on her conversation with Narim, emphasizing the potential threats and alliances revealed by the Tollan perspective.
"So," Hammond began thoughtfully, "we could have a potential enemy if this Emperor Palpatine learns of us."
"That's what I was led to believe," Sam confirmed. "Narim made it clear that the Empire is a dictatorship with significant control over the galaxy."
Hammond considered this new information carefully. "Is it possible these traders that gave them news on the rest of the galaxy could have been disgruntled citizens of the Empire?"
Sam nodded, her expression serious. "It's certainly a possibility. But given what Narim described, I think we should proceed cautiously. We can't afford to risk encountering the Empire and inadvertently provoking hostilities. For now, it might be prudent to seek out the Alliance to Restore the Republic and avoid any entanglements with the Empire."
Hammond nodded in agreement. "Agreed, Major. We'll prioritize any contact with potential allies who share our values of democracy and cooperation. Keep monitoring any intel that comes our way regarding both factions."
Sam affirmed Hammond's directive with a firm nod. "Yes, Sir. I'll ensure we stay vigilant and keep you updated on any developments."
As they concluded their discussion, the weight of potential galactic politics and alliances hung heavy in the air. The Tollans' relocation to the Nox homeworld had bought them time, but the uncertain future with entities like the Galactic Empire loomed large, urging SG-1 and Stargate Command to tread carefully in the vast and unpredictable cosmos beyond Earth.
