Yes, this chapter has taken me longer to get out lol I've had a house full of sick people which is truly draining lol

Chapter 20

Caroline POV

I was nervous about Mikael showing up and me being the only one able to see him.

I was even more nervous about Elijah's emotional state.

I excused myself to the others and walked up the stairs to our room to find him standing at the window, looking out.

"'Lijah," I said softly.

"I can't, Caroline," he murmured. "I can't allow you to be in a position where my father could hurt you, Henry and Nikola. I can't. Last time you met with father he sliced your arm open," he said, turning to me.

"Its different this time, Elijah. He won't catch me unaware. And I'll have Finn and Kol with me. We'll be okay I promise," I said, touching his cheek.

He nuzzled into my hand and closed his eyes.

He sighed.

"Last resort. We try to find another way first. If no other way can be found, well, then, I guess we have no other choice," he said.

"Have faith in me, 'lijah," i said softly.

He nodded once, grabbed my hand and led me back down the stairs.

"All done the pity party, brother? Yes? Good. Moving on," Nik said with a clap before he turned around to grab a book of the shelf, doing his part to find a solution.

Elijah gave my hand a squeeze and went to join him.

Bonnie came up and stood beside me.

"Me and Aunty Bess are gunna try to commune with the ancestors, see if there's anything we're missing," she said quietly beside me.

I nodded. "Thank you, Bonnie,"

She gave a small smile. "My pleasure. But Caroline," she said, suddenly unsure. She looked at the others in the room. And turned to me.

"Did you see her?" She whispered so quietly in my ear, even the supernatural hearing couldn't pick it up.

I gave a subtle nod.

She nodded back before gesturing to Bess and heading out the to sit in the other room.

I sighed. How did I even begin to tell the siblings I could now see their mother too?

I heard the front door open and Marcel's voice carried from the entryway.

"Take a deep breath, D. There's nothing to be nervous about, you'll see," he said.

I turned to greet the newcomers.

Marcel came straight over and hugged me.

"How you feeling, Mama?" He asked with a kiss to the top of my head.

"Like I'm going to explode. I'll let Bekah fill you in on the fun times you missed," I said, with a sarcastic scoff.

"But the look on his face when it just sneaks up on him is so much more entertaining," Kol snickered from right behind him.

Marcel jumped. "Jesus fucking christ!" He yelled.

Kol doubled over laughing and I even heard a giggle from the young girl who entered with Marcel.

Marcel turned to me and pointed at Kol. "This one of those things you spoke of?" He asked

"Yup," I said, popping the 'P'.

He shook his head. "Never a dull moment in the Mikaelson house," he sighed.

I laughed and walked over to the girl.

She must have been no older than 14.

"Davina, right? My name is Caroline," I said softly.

She looked up and my heart broke. She looked so lost.

"Nice to meet you, Caroline," she said softly.

I took her hand and squeezed gently till she focused on me.

"I want to thank you for undoing the linking spell and saving my babies. But more importantly I want you to know that me and my family, we won't let anything happen to you. Once you become part of this family, it's permanent. Always and forever," I gave her a small smile.

Her eyes teared up and she threw her arms around me.

I looked up at Marcel who looked as emotional as her.

At that moment, Finn chose to come back in and ruin it.

"Unfortunately, dear sister, that's a promise you may have to break," he said, sadly.

I whipped around to look at him, subtly pushing Davina away as Marcel came to stand beside me, arms crossed. Surprisingly, Nik grabbed hold of her shoulder gently and pushed her behind him.

"What are you talking about, Finn?" Nik asked, cautiously.

Finn looked around at all of us, his eyes finally settling on me.

"In order to do what we must to finally be rid of father, we have to finish the Harvest," he said softly.

"I'll kill anywho who tries," Marcel snarled, stepping towards Finn.

Bonnie jumped infront of Finn, holding her hands up.

"Let him explain! No one's going to hurt her, Marcel. Just let him explain!" She begged.

Marcel stopped advancing, breathing heavily as if he was prepared for a fight.

"Explain," he gritted out.

Finn placed a hand on Bonnie's shoulder moving her behind him in the face of Marcels anger.

One look around the room showed how tense the situation was. Bess had moved to stand beside Nik, who still stood protectively infront of Davina, Rebekah on his other side. Elijah was by my side, hand clasped firmly in mine and Kol had moved to stand beside Davina.

Finn swallowed nervously.

"I-I spoke to mother," he started.

Elijah's hand around mine tensed and I rubbed my other hand down his arm to help him relax.

"Why on earth would be speaking to her?" Nik asked quietly. Deadly.

"Its not what you think, Niklaus. Do you honestly think I'd be telling you if we were up to our old tricks? I apologized for my part in mothers scheme. I was distraught over the knowledge of Sage's death and all I wanted was to join her! Mother provided me with that opportunity! I've realized my mistakes and I'm trying to atone for them! I didn't seek her out, she found me," he explained.

"He's telling the truth," I said quietly.

Nik's head snapped to me.

"I saw her, earlier," I explained.

Elijah looked down at me, tense once more.

"And when were you going to share this information with us?" He asked, trying to contain his anger.

"We havent exactly had a quiet peaceful morning, love. I haven't had the opportunity. I don't know why I can see her but I saw her peaking through the doorway," I said softly.

He took a breath and squeezed my hand.

Kol looked thoughtful.

"Mothers spell was what brought you back to this side after father's spell. It stands to reason that she's part of the spell. We need her," he explained.

"Bloody hell," Nik groaned loudly.

Notes:

I apologize for how late this chapter is. Life got crazy busy and hectic and I lost the motivation to keep this story going. Last night I re read it from chapter 1 and kicked myself into gear!

Couple tidbits:

- I realizd that when changing the babies middle name I cut Finn out of the name. Whoops lol I'll make it right in the coming chapter.

- instead of being in her mid to late teens I've made Davina younger. It will become apparent why later on.

There will be a major time jump in the coming chapters. I'm hoping to end this story soon. But this is a multi story series and it will continue, do not worry.
