I would like to think Ranma mom loves him too much to ever make him truly kill himself. She hates Genma though.
There was some positives in Ranma's mind about finally moving out of the Tendo house. For one he didn't have to worry about getting lectured about feminine modesty by the Tendo girls meaning Akane. He was a guy for Kami's sake. No matter what some creep's fantasy about his cursed form was. It was just that. A curse and he had every intention of getting rid of it. So he had no desire to be more feminine.
He also didn't live with the fear of when Akane decided to cook. He almost felt bad for the Tendos but Pops was gonna get what he deserved. That stupid panda didn't think about that he would be stuck eating Akane's cooking if he did marry her. He was saving both of their stomach's by ending that engagement. No more awful abominations that could come alive if left in a fridge too long for him. Nope for him it was just going to be his mothers amazing meals.''Mom'' he suddenly thought. She wasn't there when he announced the end of his engagement to Akane.
The young man was equally parts worried and eager for when she would inevitably learn about it and would seek him out. One thing was for sure though. He was NOT going to kill himself because of something that stupid old man pledged. Ranma felt like he had some good arguments that could appeal to her sense of honor. Like Pop making more than one engagements for him.''Yeah, that will work.'' He thought.
He heard footsteps approaching. A woman's footsteps. It could only be his mother. Akane was not nearly as graceful and Shampoo liked to hope on rooftops. "'Well, here is goes.'' he thought.
''Ranma,'' a soft, feminine voice said.
''Mom,'' He took a deep breath.
''Ranma,'' His mother said.
Neither said anything else until Ranma got tired of the silence.''Mom,I know you're mad that I ended the engagement but please listen.'' He didn't dare face her. ''Akane and I, we're not good for each other. For Kami's sake she wants to go to college and what could I do with a college girl? I want to keep training.''
''Ranma''
"I would never be able to live a happy life at the Tendo's. Hell the whole city life isn't exactly good for a martial artist. There is no way Any martial artist can make a living in the city or at least in Nerima. I've never seen old man Tendo train more than one student.''
"Ranma,''
"And what was the first thing I did at the wedding when I saw a chance to get cure? I left her at the alter. Clearly getting a cure means way more to me than getting married.'' He wasn't going to tell his mother than the Amazons would probably make than happen, if he married Shampoo.
"Ranma.''
"And let's be honest she would have poisoned me with her cooking, The only people who would want stuff is the Americans so they can experiment on it.'' Nabiki was smart enough to actually make some kind of profit from the stuff that Akane called Food. It seems that if left alone long enough her recipes come to life.
"Ranma, Please listen to me."
"You know she will never get any better. I'll die of food poisoning if I have to live on Akane's cooking." Nodoka could see Ranma's point. No matter how hard she tried the youngest Tendo just didn't have it in her to be a decent cook.
''Ranma, your father told me you left the Tendo's." Ranma felt like his life was now in real danger. A part of him was also angry at his mother. How could any parent who loved their child let them sign such a pledge? Was his mother as bad as his father or even worst? Was the idea of having a mother better than the reality? He was about to find out and that sacred him.
He could not look his mother. ''Mom, did pop tell you about the other fiancees? How he engaged me to Ukyo and left her after taking her family food cart as a dowry? Why is The Tendo promise valid and not the others?" He was really stayed to panic.'' And I defeated Shampoo and since I'm a man. The laws in her village means she must marry me. Why does Pops promises overtake my personal honor and debts? Do you know he once sold me for rice and pickles?''
His rant was broken by his mother. Not with words but with a warm loving hug, the hug of a mother wanting to comfort her child. A mother's love for her child. He never felt it before.'' I'm not here to punish you Ranma.''
''What do you mean?'' he barley asked.
''I agree with everything you just said Ranma. You are right, your father made too many contradictory promises and pledges that you can't possibly be made to fulfill them all.I won't make you marry anyone you don't want too.''This was very surprising to him. he thought his mother was all about being a traditional Japanese warriors wife. She answered his unspoken questions.
''Ranma, I made a huge mistake when I let Genma take you from me. I made him and Soun tell me everything. Akane helped me confirm when they were telling the truth and well they were lying. I know how much you have suffered. I never would have let Genma go alone with you had I know what he would put you though.'' The catfu alone made her want to kill that overstuffed panda. ''I wont lose you again.''
''Thanks mom,''
''Now we will have to stay at the Tendo's until the house is fixed but I do want you to try and fix things up with these others girls. If only for your own peace of mind.'' They also destroyed the Saotome home and Nodoka didn't want a repeat. That said she was proud that her son was so manly that three women wanted to be his wife so badly they were willing to do anything to have what they thought was an engagement ring. It's a pity Genma survived their onslaught
''I know you made peace with Akane and are now friends with her. So please try and make things right as best you can with the other three.'' Ranma could see making peace peace with Ukyo and Shampoo but Kodachi was as insane as her brother and father. No thanks.'' Now come Ranma. Let's go back and I'll make you some dinner.''
''Thanks mom but I can feed myself.''
''I know,'' she smiled lovely at her some but I have not made a meal for you since you were a little boy.'' Walking back to the Tendo home. Nodoka felt true joy again. She felt like she was being a real mother to her son.
