Game was over. Even though Coach chewed him out for breaking formation, his teammates thought his last shot was really cool. Once he was free from the team's clutches, he ran over to Aubrey. Feeling buzzed from the moment, he shouted out to her, "Aubrey!!"
She was just making her way off the bleachers when she heard him call out to her. She was just barely turning to face him.
He picked her up and swirled her around in the air. Kim and Charlie were amazed.
"Wha- PUT ME DOWN!" Aubrey yelled, but by the time she managed to say it, she'd already been placed back on the ground by Kel.
"Haha, sorry. I'm just so glad you called out to me back there!"
Aubrey faintly realized her heart was racing. "You didn't win though."
"We don't need to! There's still gonna be a party tomorrow. Will you come?"
"Uh…" Aubrey hesitated.
Kim, sensing her moment, put her arm over Aubrey, "Hey, a party sounds fun! Will there be candy?"
"It's a pasta party, but I think Jack's mom will be making sugar cookies. Close enough?"
"I'll probably bring a box of Nerds to be on the safe side," Kim said.
"Yeah, that's fine. See you all then! You too, Charlene!" Kel pointed finger guns at her as he walked away. Charlene blinked but otherwise said nothing.
With Kel out of sight, Aubrey glared at her friend "Kim! What was that?!"
"It sounds fun, that's all!"
"That's all?"
"And your face was a little red," Kim laughed.
"I'm just angry!"
"Mhm," Kim checked her phone, "My brother should be here soon to pick us up, let's get going."
