Aubrey left Vance's car, and waved goodbye to Kim. When she got to her room, Sunny's letter was still waiting at her desk. She checked her emails, she didn't see anything from him, but really she didn't feel upset or disappointed with Sunny right now. She actually wasn't too concerned for now. She felt confused more than anything and was trying to look at something that would give her a familiar feeling, even if it was a sad feeling. She kept reimagining that moment, how the world was suddenly spinning when Kel picked her up so effortlessly. She was surprised to be up in the air, and see the court lights flash in and out of her sight, until she realized someone had just picked her up. Then seeing it was Kel, feeling enraged, balling up her fist, ready to punch him up until he said

I'm just so glad you called out to me.

She could hear it in his voice.

Snap out of it! Snap out of it!

She went over to Bun-Bun, and fed him a carrot. She pet him, all while trying to think of something else besides what she felt just now. Think of how you're upset at Sunny, think of how you're upset about the truth about Mari, think about how annoying Kel really is, think about how all your friends left you even if you did forgive them, think about how Basil is still acting a little weird, think about… anything… else…

But the problem with trying to think about anything else besides what she's thinking about, made that thought all that much stronger. Aubrey felt a little pained to realize this might be the first time in a longtime where she felt something genuinely exciting and lighthearted from within. Something that didn't have a touch of gloom, despair, or loss. It was just something that was happening, and something that really wasn't bad at all. She'd always thought Sunny would be the one to give her this feeling, maybe that they'd go to prom together or something. But that possibility was so far gone now with everything that had happened. Even if he didn't mean it and in her heart she truly wished him to be happy again, it was impossible to go back to feeling lighthearted about Sunny, knowing what happened to Mari.
