HOPES AND NIGHTMARES: An Ongezellig Fanfiction

Chapter 2.1: The Alliance

Today had been another successful day for Mymy. Making fun of Maya had been especially for her today, especially after she fell down into the woods. If only she had recorded it. She would have gotten so much attention from it, and not to mention how many people she would get on her side for her revolution she was planning.

Nobody she new liked Maya, and of course she did need voters for the next class president elections and getting the people to rally the people against the common enemy (as she saw Maya) would Keep her in high standing until the elections. The flyers that she displayed all around the school did also attract peoples attention to her cause, and that was thanks to Kiki. Of course, she wasn't going to ask Maya to help with her computer related troubles; that would be cooperation with the enemy. She knew that Coco would have probably caused a house fire if she got anywhere near her computer. The person that she had the most faith in for anything related to her political troubles was Kiki. Seeing as how they met each other during a very heated debate at her pirate club and showed off her knowledge of piracy, gunrunning and connections, she saw her as an incredibly valuable ally.

She hopped up on top of her bed and dialed kikis number, her hands shaking slightly on her phone with anticipation and excitement. She could barely keep still as her phone Rang out. She could see her orange face glinting through her phone screen, full of colour and happiness. She waited...and waited..and waited...

Until finally she picked up. Mymy was overjoyed to get to speak to her.

"Hello?"

"KIKI! So much happened to me today! I Made fun of Maya, we biked home from school, and Vera didn't even call me a na-"

"Mymy...it's really late. You woke me up and I want to go back to bed."

Mymy glanced away from her phone and over to her clock. It was late. Very late. She had to really thought of the time. Just talking to Kiki. She was so caught up today with teasing maya, that she had forgotten all about relaying information to her at school. At least she could catch up with her now...right?

"But I need to talk to you about all of the things that happened to me today! I can't with anyone else because they wouldn't get it!"

"We can talk in the morning. I promise we can, Mymy. For now I need to sleep, and you should too."

"But...kiki.."

"Look..I'll call you when I can, ok? Goodnight."

And with that, she hung up the phone. And rather quickly at that. If she really cared she would have stayed for a few seconds longer. Why couldn't she stay longer? She had waited so long to talk to her, only to get a few sentences out of her. Even though Mymy knew they could talk tomorrow, she still missed hearing her voice. She missed seeing her at school and talking with her.

Mymy thought of everything she could have done with Kiki today. They could have stayed at the pirate club and draw maps, she could have had debates with her about anything that they wanted. She Sat there still for a moment, thinking about wether or not she made the right choice. Of course she did, right? Maya deserved it after all, what with her oriental cartoons, how she brought shame upon Mymy and Coco. She needed to be reminded of it. It wasn't a complete waste of time...right?

Although she hated Maya, something about today felt wrong. Usually, nothing really bad happened when she teased her or called her names. Maybe another useless reminder from Coco that teasing her was wrong. The usual stuff. Coco pulling her up by her ear wasn't usual. She never did that. She never even came as close to that since the day of the presentation. Was Coco the enemy all along? Were her sisters conspiring against her to tear down her reputation and crush her spirit? No, she thought. Coco wasn't smart enough to do that. At least from what Mymy knew. There was a strange tingling sensation in her heart that would not go away. It felt like she had been punched in the gut, like the time she tried to convince weil to join her cause. She had never experienced it before besides that, and it made her feel like she was doing something wrong. She didn't want to believe that she had done anything remotely wrong, but the feeling stayed with her. It crept around her whole body and crushed her firery spirit. She then realised that this feeling was guilt. She was full of guilt that she didn't spend enough time with Kiki and instead spent it all on Maya, a person she didn't even like. Mymy tucked herself under her covers, wondering if she could hide from this feeling. But she was wrong. It was an awful feeling, and she wanted it gone as soon as possible. But it stayed. It stayed until she fell asleep.

In her dream, Mymy saw the fruits of her labour. She watched from her extravagant mansions balcony as workers toiled for the good of their country, bomber planes flying overhead displaying flags of the glory of her might. She was adorned in a commanders uniform ordained with medals, jewels and whatever other shiny symbol they could fit on it. She walked through her castle, admiring the banners, the intricate craftsmanship of every pillar, every wall. She had worked hard to get this. And she was happy.

But that feeling she had felt so long ago, when she was once just a girl, bled into her once more. Her mansion was empty, despite its beauty. She missed having a normal conversation, being around others she cared about and not talking about her war with the western world. She missed Coco. And for some God forsaken reason...she missed maya.

As she solemnly Walked down a staircase, she noticed that the gigantic front doors of her mansion had swung wide open. Beyond those doors beamed a blinding white light. She covered her eyes with her hands and, through the slits in-between her fingers, she could make out a silhouette. Ine with red and white socks, messy tied hair and sunken and heavy eyes. Her eyes did not deceive her. It was maya. After so long she could see her as clear as day, standing amongst the light. She made it to the base of the stairs and watched as Maya shambled closer and closer to her.

She noticed that she looked pale, as usual. Her eyes had sunken into her head, and her body looked frail and malnourished. Mymy hesitated to move. She wondered if this was who she thought it was, and not some spy who had come to assassinate her. "Who are you?" Mymy cried out to the figure. The figure stopped dead in it's tracks, looking up into Mymys eyes. The whole mansion fell deafeningly silent as they locked eyes and stared into each other's souls.

Something rattled inside the figure. It Shook a little bit before saying in a decaying and desperate voice,

"I don't want to die alone."

At that moment, the ground began to shake wildly. Mymy was knocked of balance as the mansion began to fall apart around her. Gaping cracks riddled the place like bullets. Everything she had known for so long had began to destroy itself. Mymy began to plead with the figure.

"Please! What did I do wrong?! Stop this, please!

The figure stood, defiant of Mymy's distressed crying. The place crumbled, but the two of them somehow were not crushed by the debris. The figure then began to walk again, eventually making it straight in from of Mymy. She had crumbled on to the floor amidst the fear and confusion of the situation she was in. The figure then spoke, one final time, as if to mock her.

"I don't want to be like this."
