Silence...

That's all Arizona was receiving….. she was waiting for an answer to her question but all she received was…. Silence. Facing a stunned Callie, who seemed to be unable to get any noise to come out of her mouth.
The silence that was slowly killing the little hope the blonde had.

Mark was still laughing to himself like a goofy child, And Callie was frozen.

Arizona tilted her head, her eyes filling with unshed tears. She would not cry. She knew the answer, but it was harder than she thought to have it thrown in her face.

« I... I'm going to go. » She said. « You should call a cab for this one. »

She pointed to their drunken friend and shrugged. « I'll see you at the next family dinner. »

Callie frowned. She wasn't ready for that. She didn't know what to do, what to say.

She looked at the staggering drunken Arizona walking away. She knew the blonde was heartbroken one more time because of her.

And it was devastating. She was just stuck standing in the middle of the street. She didn't know what to do.

They were in a good place finally and she didn't want to ruin it.
Why did Arizona have to ask her that? Why now in the middle of the night when she was intoxicated?

Callie was still looking at the vulnerable silhouette walking further away from her and eventually turning the corner of the nearest street.

She grabbed her phone and called a cab for Mark, telling Him to stay where he was and to wait for the driver.

Then she ran in the direction that Arizona had walked. She couldn't let her walk alone in the night in the state she was in. Anything could happen to her.

She walked as fast as she could, turning at the street corner but she didn't see Arizona anywhere. She decided to take the dark street because she was sure it was where she saw her turning.

« Arizona? » She called, still not seeing her. She began to worry. What has she done? She should have forbidden her ex-wife to walk away in the night alone.

« Arizona? » Callie yelled as she quickened her steps. She was worried sick now. Nothing mattered any more than to find Arizona safe.

She stopped to catch her breath and tried to call the blonde's phone, but she was immediately directed to the voice mail.

Suddenly she heard it. Sobs. It was very quiet, but she recognized them. She walked to the next alley and that is when she saw her, leant against the wall, crying silent tears and wiping them with her thumb discreetly.

The scene made Callie's heart sink. She couldn't stand it. She walked over to her ex-wife and looked at her with a sad smile.

Arizona swallowed hard. She didn't want to see her now. She had already made a fool of herself. She didn't need her pity.

Callie approached her and without warning embraced the shorter blonde in a tight embrace. Surprised at first Arizona melted in the too familiar arms and naturally, her arms came around Callie's waist.

She cried silently in the crook of her ex-wife neck for a few more minutes. She was feeling the cold of the night chilling her body, and that's when she pulled her face away, just a little.

Arizona could see she also had tears in her eyes.

Callie looked intensely in the blue eyes in front of her and kissed her forehead. Arizona closed her eyes at the comforting feeling of Callie's lips. And then it happened. Callie's lips were on hers, as the taller woman pushed her hard against the wall.

The kiss was hungry, as Callie tried to seek entrance and she was granted access as their tongues met in a heated dance. Callie pinned the blonde's Arms against the wall. They were lost in each other, but Callie wanted to take control even if Arizona was struggling.

When they pulled apart, Arizona stepped back touching her lips and was still in shock of what had just happened.

She had never expected that reaction from her ex-wife and she was totally taken aback.

« I didn't know what to answer you, I had to show you, now I think you'll know... »

….

Arizona wasn't sure she was going to join her kids for the family night that night.

She knew she had to. She had promised. She had given her word to them, to Callie and to herself. But after what had happened a few days prior, she wasn't sure about anything.
She didn't remember how she had been brought back to her place, waking up with the most terrible headache from her hangover.

She was in her room, wearing the same clothes she had worn the night before.

She remembered April, Mark and his stupid bet. She also remembered Callie's face totally stunned when she had said something, but that was it.

After she had partial memories. She remembered walking for a while as her prosthetic was bothering her.
She thought Callie had come looking for her, but she was not sure.
She was so frustrated, because she hoped she hadn't done or said something that might change their newly friendly parenting relationship.

The only thing she was sure of, is that for the first time in years, she had dreamt about Callie. And she had even kissed her in that dream. Which was unusual as she didn't usually remember her dreams but she was very happy she could remember this one.

She hadn't heard from Callie since, except to remind her that tonight was a movie night. This was great because they wouldn't have to talk, the kids would be with them all the time, and nothing would be awkward. So she hoped.

That's why she would go tonight, apologizing for showing up drunk at Callie's hospital.

And then it was time to go and meet the kids at the movie.
She wasn't sure what kind of film they were going to watch, but it didn't really matter.

As soon as her children saw her approaching they ran to meet her.

« Mommy! » they both screamed.

It was always the same when they were reunited. But their family was really special for the two children.

« I'm sorry I'm late... » Arizona apologized. She had hesitated until the last minute and now she was looking at a grumpy Callie.

« You're late... » Callie said as the family stood in front of the movie theatre doors.

« I know... Sorry... » Arizona replied like a grounded child.

« It's okay Mama has already got the tickets. » Travis smiled, taking his mother's by the arms, dragging them in through the doors.

« So what are we watching? » Arizona asked.

« Encanto ! » Olivia replied cheerfully.

As they entered, they noticed a lot of families had the same idea. The room was full of children and their parents.

« Oh no... I don't think we are going to be able for all four of us to sit together... » Travis pouted.

« It's okay buddy. I will go with you over there, and Mommy will go and sit with Liv over there? Or vice versa? » Arizona suggested.

But then Jared, a friend of Travis, waved at him. « Hey Trav'! Come here I have a spot for you and bring Liv there's a space for her too ! »

Both mothers gulped at the idea of finding themselves without their children around.

« It's okay. I will look after them ». Jared's father told Callie as she accompanied her children to their seats.

« Thank you... » Callie replied, her cheeks blushed by the unexpected turn of events.

« I'm going to take that seat in the corner. » Arizona said. « So, If I fall asleep no one will notice. »

She was about to turn her back to Callie and walk to the discrete seats when a mother and her toddler got there before her.

Arizona gulped, there were just two seats next to each other available.

Callie shrugged and walked to take her seat. She also would have preferred to avoid any one on one time with her ex-wife, but there was nothing she could do about it, what were the odds this would happen?

Arizona rolled her eyes and followed the brunette, and they settled in an awkward silence.

Arizona wasn't feeling comfortable, and she began to move in her seat.

She was nervous, and she wanted nothing more than to leave this place. She couldn't focus on the movie and her fidgeting was making Callie nervous too.

« What's wrong with you... » Callie asked.

« Nothing... I just... I don't … I can't... » Arizona grumbled, trying hard to focus on the movie while she was also trying to remember the event of her drunken night. « Forget about it... »

Callie sighed and grabbed the blonde's hand suddenly to stop her from wriggling.

The gesture worked immediately as Arizona's body tensed and then it hit her like a wrecking ball. She remembered everything.

Callie had kissed her, in that dirty alley. And she had kissed her back... Her free hand automatically went to her wide-open mouth.

Callie noticed the change in her ex-wife's behaviour and looked at her with knitted brows.

Arizona didn't say a word and grabbed her purse, standing up and leaving the movie theatre in a hurry.

She needed to go. She needed some distance from Callie and she needed it now.

But Callie had followed her, surprised by the blonde's escape.

Arizona found shelter in the toilets, and she locked the door behind her, unable to look at Callie.

The taller woman quietly knocked on the door, worried by the strange attitude.

« Arizona are you all right? »

She didn't reply. She was torn between shock and guilt. She had forgotten that kiss for days and now everything was coming back to her. And the only thing she wanted was to do it again.

« Arizona, what happened. You can talk to me... We are kind of friends. » Callie tried again.

« I... You kissed me... the other night. I was wasted and I asked you if you loved me... » Arizona finally blurted out.

Callie gulped. She was relieved when she didn't get a call from her wife the following day. She thought Arizona had forgotten what had happened because of the effects of the alcohol,

« Listen, we can talk about it. But right now our kids are waiting for us. » Callie tried to change the subject.

« I don't want to talk about it. » Arizona said. « It was a drunken mistake. I'm sorry. »

« Arizona open the damn door! » Callie insisted. « I'm not talking about this when you are in a toilet of a movie theatre. »

« Go away Callie please... » Arizona pleaded. She didn't want to talk about it. She was sure there would be screaming and yelling.
She didn't want a kiss to ruin all the progress they had made as coparents.

She heard Callie step back from the door and walk out of the room. She sighed in relief. Sure, a talk was inevitable, but she needed some space to process her recent flashbacks.

She opened the door and went to the sink. A sob escaped her and tears she didn't know she was restraining rolled down her cheeks. She wiped them away, taking a long breath before heading back to the movie. Or maybe to her car. She would lie and tell the kids she had to go to the hospital for an emergency.

She opened the doors of the bathroom, thinking about nothing but escaping when strong arms grabbed her by the waist and pulled her against the nearest wall.

Callie was staring at her intensely, her breathing heavy and an unreadable expression on her face.

« Callie... » Arizona said. « I'm sorry I said what I said. It was stupid. Please forget about it. I don't want to bother you. »

Callie continued to stare into blue eyes without saying a word.

« I don't want to ruin what we are building. And I was drunk. I'm sorry. » Arizona continued. « So I'm going to leave. Just tell the kids I've been paged... »

« No! » Callie replied sharply.

And as fast as it had happened a few days prior, Callie crashed her lips on her ex-wife who was unable to resist.
