Turtle Island
"Oh, Rafe," Nadine sighed, standing straight as she tried to calm her laughter. "You really have no idea, do you?" She smiled at the man, enjoyment flowing through her as her business partner continued to stare at her in confusion. Nadine chuckled lightly again, her gaze moving back to Sara and the Drake brothers. "Those three…" She waved her gun at them. "Are siblings…" Nadine looked back at Rafe, watching as his hazel eyes travelled over Nathan, Sara and Samuel, the realisation setting in slowly as his eyes widened as Rafe noticed the resemblance between the trio. Nadine laughed again, a thrill going down her spine for the bombshell of information she was about to drop on all four. "You've been fucking Nathan and Samuel Drake's baby sister."
Rafe felt himself freeze up, and his eyes locked onto Nadine as her words rolled around in his head. Ever slowly, his gaze moved to Sara. Even with her eyes downcast at her feet, standing next to Nathan, Rafe could finally see why he thought she looked so familiar when he first met her. Sara Briggs is very much a Drake. The boys had the same skin tone, eye colour and hair colour as the woman, and then there was her sense of humour, the sarcasm that seemed to ooze from her tongue. Looking at her, Rafe could clearly see she was Nathan and Samuel's baby sister, and he had fucked her. Multiple times.
"No." Nathan's voice broke out over Nadine's laughter, a weak plea as he seemed to be having a one-sided argument with Sara over this being true as she avoided looking at him. "It can't be…Sara…no…just no…" Nathan continued to mumble as he reached out to her, but his hand retracted before he could touch her, as if she burned him in more ways than one. Nathan stared at her as he battled his emotions inside. He didn't know how to feel. Should he be betrayed or angry? Both? "Sara…?" He asked for her, begging her to look at him, and Nathan swallowed hard when she finally looked at him. It was all there in her eyes—a mixture of guilt and regret.
But Samuel's reaction took everyone by storm as he threw into a rage. The man had been quiet after Nadine's devilish reveal. Too quiet. Samuel had made to move on Rafe, charging the younger man despite the four guns that were trained on him and his brother. "Rafe! You fucking piece of shit! You raped her! You fucking raped my sister!" As all four weapons moved on, Samuel, it was Nathan that stopped the towering man, trying to hold his brother back from getting shot. "Let me go, Nate! He fucking raped Sara!" He kept yelling, refusing to accept it.
"No, he didn't, Sam!" Nathan barked, using all his strength to keep his raging brother at bay. But Samuel refused to see reason. In his mind, there was no way that Sara, his little sister, would willingly engage in sex with a man like Rafe Adler. A man who was their enemy.
Sara watched her brothers, her mouth set in a grim line as she battled with her emotions. She hadn't wanted any of them to find out this way. Sara wanted to be able to tell Rafe about her brothers and her brothers about her situation with Rafe on her own terms. Her eyes flickered to Rafe as she could feel him staring at her. His face was set hard, as it was when he was usually on the verge of an aggressive outburst. Not being able to hold his gaze, Sara's eyes moved back to her brothers. "Samuel…" She spoke, her voice firm despite her emotions and the tears starting to sting at the corner of her eyes. When her eldest brother's eyes moved to her, Samuel stopped, no longer fighting against Nathan as he stared at her, her gaze holding him in place. "He didn't rape me."
Samuel broke with that. His eyes pulled away from Sara as he shoved off Nathan. He could barely look at her, knowing what she'd done. "You let him…" Samuel hissed over and over, rubbing a hand over his face as he tried to make sense of it all. "You fucking betrayed us—"
"You betrayed us." Sara cut him off, her emotions shifting. She looked at Nathan, who was staring at her with confusion upon her exclamation. "He lied to us. Rafe got him released two years ago and was working for him. Fuck, Hector Alcazar died six months ago." Nathan's brows furrowed as Sara spoke, her face and voice emotionless and all serious, alerting him that she was telling the truth. Samuel didn't even call out to rebut what she was saying, confirming it all. "He lied to us because he wants the treasure for himself. He knew he'd never find it without us. Without you."
Nathan stood between his siblings, his hands on his hips and head hung low as he processed everything that had been dumped on him. He now knew why both Sullivan and Emma said Sara would be safe with Rafe, and while he was conflicted over his sister sleeping with the man, he couldn't hold it against her, as he, too, had done similar things on past adventures. But what really left him broken was Samuel's lies. After fifteen years, his brother returned from the dead, ripping him from the peaceful life he'd built, all because of the greed of finding some gold. With a sigh, Nathan looked to his sister, the two sharing a look that made the woman ease up. It was understanding. Sara smiled weakly at him, pleased that he didn't hold her actions against her. But when his gaze moved to Samuel, the large man was pacing, fighting with his emotions as he refused to look at anyone, making Nathan feel even more betrayed. He couldn't understand why his own brother would lie to him like that, but then it dawned on him. When Natahan spoke about his past adventures and Sara's life growing up, it was easy to see how Samuel could be jealous and spiteful of his younger siblings, of what they got to experience and achieve while he was rotting away in a jail cell.
"If we're all done with the bullshit," Nadine gritted, smirking from having enjoyed the show before her. "I suggest we end things here." She spoke to Rafe as she never looked away from the trio in front of her. The gun was trained on Samuel as he was the more temperamental of the Drake siblings.
Rafe was silent as he continued to stare at Sara, unsure of what to do, but with a click of his tongue, his face relaxed as a smug look spread across his features as he looked at Nathan. "You're free to go, Nate. Sara and I had a deal. She helps me find the treasure, and you get to live," His eyes then trained on Samuel. "But you, Samuel…" At the mention of his name, the eldest Drake began to glare hard at him. "In her anger towards you over all your lies, no deal was made for your life."
Nathan glanced at Sara. "You made a deal for me?" His words were so soft in response, charmed that she was still looking out for him, even during her capture and entanglement with Rafe. "But Sam…?" Nathan glanced at Samuel, noticing how his older brother was glowering at Rafe, a second away from snapping and launching himself at the smug man again.
"If he's willing to call it quits and leave, I'm happy with that. I'd rather not have to shoot one of Sara's brothers." Rafe admitted with a shrug of his shoulders. His words gained Sara's attention as she stared at him. She was perplexed at how it sounded like Rafe didn't want to shoot Nathan or Samuel just to keep her happy.
Nadine scoffed. "I say we shoot them both. No more inconveniences, and you get to keep your prize." The British woman's eyes landed on Sara, making the brunette glare at the woman.
"Hey now," Nathan spoke, raising his hands in a defensive manner. "We'll go—"
"No, we won't!" Samuel barked, cutting off his brother. "We deserve that treasure. It's ours!" Sara rolled her eyes as she listened to him, clearly not impressed. Samuel was moving forward again, ignoring the four guns trained in him as he advanced on Rafe, the anger still bubbling below the surface. Both Nathan and Sara moved, trying to grab at the man to hold him back. "You can fuck off, Rafe, and take your Shoreline buddies with you! I will die before I let you touch my sister again!"
"Samuel…" Rafe sighed, head tilting as he gazed at the man. "You really think things are going to go your way? Both Sara and Nathan are willing to comply, and we have weapons trained on you. So just give up."
"Rafe," Nadine lectured, her patience wearing thin as she kept her gaze and gun pointed at the eldest Drake.
Samuel was standing with both his younger siblings on his right as he tried to move on Rafe. Nathan was trying to hold back his brother while Sara was calling Samuel out on his idiotic behaviour. In the mess of their arguing, as Samuel threw his arms around, trying to take a swing at Rafe despite the distance from the man, a shot rang out as Nadine fired her weapon. She'd meant to shoot the eldest, a warning shot just to incapacitate, but in the kerfuffle, the bullet grazed Samuel's arm as it flew past the man and lodged itself into Nathan's left shoulder, sending the middle child stumbling backwards.
"Nate!" Sara screamed, reaching to support her brother and forgetting about Samuel, grasping his hand to stabilise him. Yet the dead weight of Nathan's body overpowered her as she stumbled with him, the pair heading over the cliff behind them.
Rafe dropped his weapon, diving for the cliff as he reached out for Sara, latching onto her free hand to catch her as she held tightly onto Nathan with her left. "Sara!" Rafe hissed, not able to support her and her brother as the two siblings dangled over the cliff. Behind him, Knot moved to his benefactor's side, ready to grab the man in case he went over the cliff, still aiming his gun at Samuel. The eldest Drake had fallen to his side when he was shot, gripping onto his arm to put pressure on where he was bleeding from the graze, fully unaware of his two younger siblings hanging from the cliff, only being supported by his enemy.
Sara gritted her teeth as she struggled to keep her hand in Rafe's, her gaze down at her brother as she felt his hand begin to slip from hers. "Nate!" She cried out, trying to awaken the unconscious man as blood continued to drip from the wound on his left shoulder. Yet it was all in vain. Sara screamed out as Nathan's hand finally slipped from hers, and all Sara could do was watch her brother, a man who'd changed her life, plummet into the rushing river below them. Tears were streaming down her face as Rafe, now without the added weight, was able to hoist her up. His arms were around her middle, holding her close as she sobbed, her eyes not looking away from the cliff where she'd just lost her brother and tried reaching out, desperate to have him back. She'd never felt more broken, like a part of her had been ripped from her very flesh.
"Sara…" Samuel called out to her from where he was, just metres from her. But when he reached out to touch her, his fingers grazing the skin of her arm, she snapped back into reality.
"Don't fucking touch me!" She screamed, yanking her arm back from him and leaning further into Rafe's embrace. Her eyes were full of fury as she stared at her brother as tears continued to run down her cheeks. "This is all your fault! If you had stayed gone, stayed dead!" Rafe held her closer as she screamed at Samuel, his arms providing a comfort Samuel never could at that moment. She'd lost a brother she loved to a brother she didn't know. "You should have died that day! We both would have been better off without you!"
With the weakness of her broken body and soul, Rafe was able to pull her up to stand with him as he continued to hold her close. His face was hard as he stared down at the pitiful and bleeding man. "Knot, tend to Samuel's wound and ensure he is bound. No more inconveniences." Rafe hissed before turning to Nadine. The British woman was staring at Sara with a somewhat regretful look as she looked at the broken woman. Sara was always bold and brave, sarcastic in the face of danger. But now, she was nothing more than a shell of her former self. "Nadine…" Rafe spoke, gaining the woman's attention. "Next time, don't shoot…" He hissed out. Nadine stared back at him, her mouth in a thin line. All she did was nod once before ordering Orca and Knot to drag away Samuel, which the large man objected to, fighting and thrashing about as he called out for his sister. Still, Sara ignored him as she turned in Rafe's arms, fully accepting the comfort of his embrace. Nadine watched the pair, observing how Rafe's face was emotionless as he held the brunette close, but in his eyes was a fire that Nadine knew too well. With a final deep breath, Nadine turned, following after her lieutenants and Samuel, leaving Rafe and Sara behind.
"I dropped him…" Sara sobbed into Rafe's chest, her hands gripping tightly on the fabric of his shirt. "I dropped my brother…"
Rafe brought a hand to the top of her head, a single thumb rubbing tenderly at the back of her skull while he held her around her waist with his other arm. "You didn't drop him. You held on for as long as you could." His gaze turned to the cliff, and he frowned deeper. Despite everything he'd felt towards Nathan over the last fifteen years, to see the man go like that, Sara clinging onto her brother's unconscious body, had affected Rafe more than he expected it to. And what's more, was the fact that he wasn't able to hold onto his promise to the woman. There was nothing more keeping Sara from upholding her end of their agreement, and it wasn't as if Samuel could be used as leverage, as Nathan's death had been the final straw in ending her relationship with her eldest brother. And Samuel would fight him and Shoreline every step of the way.
"Why did you save me…?" She mumbled in between sniffles, her head craning further into his chest. Rafe's attention snapped to her, his thumb pausing in its movements. He could have easily used Samuel to find Avery's treasure without her. Still, in a split second, he'd watched her go over the edge; being dragged by her brother had filled him with a dread Rafe hadn't felt in years, not since he had to escape from that Panama prison all those years ago with Samuel and Nathan.
Rafe gritted his jaw as he embraced her tighter. "You would assist me better than Samuel ever would." He excused. It was a lie more to himself than for her benefit. "You don't wish for me to die in a horribly painful manner, unlike him." Sara pulled away from his embrace, his arm going slack around her. She looked up at him, her green orbs shining through red puffy eyes. It was a sight that made his stomach lurch in an unsettling manner, in more ways than one. His face was grim as he stared down at her, trying to remain emotionless and not give anything away. "Do you need…a moment?"
Sara glanced away as she thought until her eyes trained back on him. She shook her head. "No, let's just get this over with." Her tone was bitter, overly obvious that she just wanted to find the treasure and leave. Sara was done with Avery and his pirates, done with this adventure, and utterly done with Samuel. She knew that she'd have to break the news to Elena when she returned home, something she feared doing. Sara and Elena had become close, even more so than sisters-in-law, and for that, Sara knew that the news of Nathan's passing would break her, even after the fight that had broken out between the married couple due to Samuel's interference. Her hands dropped from his chest as his left her head and back, but he still reached out to grab her hand with his as she moved to follow after Nadine. Sara paused, looking back over her shoulder at him, seeing his expression. "There's more to it, isn't there?"
His jaw tensed again. "Yes." It was a simple answer, but he spoke it like it was the answer to everything she needed to know about him, about what they were currently and what they were becoming. The hint of emotion added to his internal betrayal of how he was beginning to feel about this woman who was very much an enigma to him. In his thirty-eight years of life, no woman has ever affected him quite as Sara Evelyn Briggs did. No woman had ever left him pining or wanting more than she. Rafe was beginning to care for her deeply, and the way she was staring at him at that moment only made those feelings more intense. Rafe's hand left hers, reaching for her neck as he brought her in close, his lips crashing onto her as the kiss drew a moan from her. Rafe savoured everything about it. The sounds, taste and feel of her lips on his. She completely beguiled him, and he lived for it. When Rafe ended the kiss, Sara leaned forward, following after him, seeking for it to continue, making the man chuckle, his breath warm against her lips. The pair stood there, staring at one another as a silent conversation was spoken between their eyes. Understanding. Rafe knew how he felt, and Sara accepted those feelings and returned them.
"We should get moving…" Sara swallowed, her voice weak, as she still needed time to comprehend their relationship and the passing of her brother. "Nadine will get upset…" Rafe chuckled again, only nodding as his hand dropped from her neck to her back, guiding her away from the cliff, but she couldn't help one single glance back, her eyes almost tearing up as she remembered Nathan slipping from her grasp, making her clench and unclench her hand that had held his.
Elena had been walking around Turtle Island for what felt like hours, following the sounds of gunfire, which she knew meant her husband was that way. It had taken a lot for Sullivan to convince her to go after her husband, the older man filling her in on everything that had transpired in her absence, even the personal stuff between Sara and Rafe in Italy and Scotland. Part of Elena wanted to be happy for Sara, knowing the woman had taken a long break from the dating scene to focus on her work. Still, the idea of Sara getting intimate with a man like Rafe filled Elena with dread. After taking in everything Sullivan said, Rafe Adler wasn't a good person to be in bed with, both figuratively and literally. And then there was the call she'd gotten late last night from Emma. Elena had never heard the blonde speak so seriously. It was rather unnerving. Emma had informed Elena and Sullivan that Sara was safe and that their brunette friend was unhurt and unbound, freely moving around whatever Shoreline compound they'd taken Sara to. She was pulled from her troubling thought when her radio buzzed in her back pocket, alerting her that Sullivan wanted to talk as he flew his plane overhead of the island. "What do you want, Sully?" Elena asked into the device as she looked up at the sky, trying to spot his seaplane. She could hear the rumblings of its engine echoing.
"You found our boys yet?"
Elena sighed. "No, not even Sara. But the gunfire I was following has stopped."
"Damn. Keep moving ahead, but be careful."
"I know. Between Nate and I, I am the careful one." Elena joked. She knew she'd get a chuckle out of the man with that one. It even made her laugh a little. Pocketing the radio, she continued on, moving along the river edge toward where the sounds of gunfire had come from before they ceased. Elena could see the tops of ruined buildings up ahead in the distance, along the cliff edges above. She figured that was where the sounds had come from, yet she had no idea how she was meant to get up there. Sighing, she continued, hoping to find a way to climb up. Elena paused in her travels when she spotted something peculiar up ahead, a body lying on its side, facing away from her in the embankment. As she cautiously moved closure, her blood ran cold in her veins. "Oh…oh my god…" Elena knelt down beside him, turning the man onto his back. "Nate…hey…Nate!" She cried out, gripping at her husband's unconscious form. Her eyes landed on the bloodstain on his left shoulder. Pushing the fabric aside, she spotted the fresh bullet wound. "No…"
Elena found herself frozen, unable to move as she continued to stare at the wound. Her hands trembled as she brought a shaky hand to Nathan's neck, swallowing hard before she pressed two fingertips into the pulse points below his jaw. Elena sucked in a breath when she felt the beating of his heart, still going strong. Without wasting a second, Elena moved her focus back to his injury. It was a through and through, meaning there was no bullet to be removed, and by the grace of God, no major arteries had been nicked. Elena was no doctor, but she assumed the bone might have been hit by where the bullet hole was, high up on his shoulder and had it just been a few more centimetres, the bullet would have grazed him. Pulling off her backpack, Elena dug through its contents, pulling out the small first aid kit she'd learned to carry with her after her first adventure with Nathan all those years ago. She was thankful for all the times she had to mend shirt buttons that she now had the skills to stitch up the wound on the front and back of his shoulder, making sure to clean out the wound first. Once Nathan was stabilized, Elena carefully dragged him up the bank onto dry land and propped him up against a fallen tree while she waited for him to regain consciousness.
"Sully?" Elena spoke into her radio as she spared a glance down at Nathan.
"You found them, darlin'?"
Elena sighed. "Found Nate. He's been shot. I stitched up the wound. The bullet went straight through."
"Hell. Is he going to be okay?"
"Need to wait for him to wake up, but he should be." She looked up at the sky, once again trying to spot his plane as she heard him fly overhead. "I'll ask him about Sara and Sam when he wakes up."
"Keep me posted."
"Will do, Sully." Elena smiled, putting the radio back in her back pocket. She sat on the log, rubbing her brow as she stared at her husband. She was still mad at him, as she couldn't fathom what had been going on in his head that kept him from being honest with her. Elena knew that Nathan and his sister were stubborn; she'd encountered it enough times with them. With Nathan, it was when he was on his dangerous adventures, and for Sara, it was whenever Elena seemed to have a girl's night out with her that Elena saw just how alike the siblings were. "Damn it, Nate…" She sighed again, closing her eyes.
"Sorry…"
It was weak, but it startled Elena. She looked at Nathan, finding him looking up at her, his face tight as he winched from pain. "Nate…" Elena smiled weakly, moving off the log to kneel beside him.
"I guess this is the worst way for you to find me…" He tried to joke, but the laughter only made his injuries worse. "Yeah, that wasn't a smart move." Nathan hissed out as he tried to adjust himself.
"Nate…" Elena spoke, gaining the man's attention. "Why didn't you and Sara ever tell me about Sam."
Nathan chuckled again, his new position against the log making it easier for him to laugh. "We thought he was dead. Sara never even got to know him, as she was just a babe when he last saw her." He glanced away from her, shame in his eyes. "I should of, but it was hard to talk about him. The last time I had was a year after his death when I met Sara for the first time. We both ended up rather emotional. Sam was the reason I ended up getting into treasure hunting. It was his idea." Nathan finally looked back at her, a small smile on his lips.
"His idea?" Elena asked, reaching for her first aid kit, pulling out some painkillers and a bottle of water from her backpack, and handing them to him.
"Yeah…" Nathan answered, swallowing back the meds and washing them down. As he handed the water bottle back, he explained to Elena how, when they were children, after Samuel had been kicked out of the orphanage, the two boys had broken into a home that held the last of their mother's belongings after their father had sold them off. The home had belonged to Evelyn Namba, a historian that mentored their mother, Cassandra, and whom Sara's middle name came from. It was from that woman the boys took their mother's journal and discovered their mother's last adventure before her passing, the hunt for Henry Avery's treasure. Samuel wanted to go after it, to finish what their mother had started, and Nathan was more than willing to aid him. "And everything changed after that. Y'know, we became... explorers. Adventurers. Mostly thieves."
"And you eventually dragged Sara into it."
"Tried not to," Nathan smiled fondly at all the times Sara had begged to join him. "You know, for a while, it felt like...if we weren't taking turns going to jail...it was because we were in jail together. And...after I lost him, I…Or, after I thought...I lost him…" Nathan choked out as the memories of seeing Samuel fall reentered his mind. "Now you know everything."
Elena scoffed. "With you, I doubt that that's everything. But...it's a lot." She started to pack up her first aid kit, putting it and her water bottle in her backpack as Nathan watched her.
"Love to know what you're thinking." He spoke hesitantly. While yes, he did want to know, he was also afraid of what she might say. After everything that's happened, the truth he'd kept from her, he wouldn't be surprised if she hated him.
"I'm thinking that you're lucky that I found you when I did." She mused, sparing him a glance from the corner of her eye. He could only nod in response. "I'm glad you didn't lose a limb or anything. It would've been a royal pain getting you out of here."
"How did you find me, anyway?" Nathan asked, smiling at her. He was happy that she didn't seem too upset with him.
Elena rolled her eyes before making a joke at his expense. "Oh, you know, easy. Just follow the sound of gunfire." It made him laugh.
"Yeah. No, I mean, how did you get here...?" He started to ask, but paused when he heard the rubble of a plane engine passing above them. "Oh...of course." Nathan smiled. He knew he could always rely on Sullivan.
Elena stood up, pulling out her radio as she gazed back up at the sky. "Come in, Sully."
"Hey, darlin'. How's he doing?"
She spared a look at her husband, watching as he struggled to stand up on his own, grunting in pain at his shoulder injury. "Oh, you know, he's banged up, but he's alive. Par for the course. Now we just need to rescue the other Drake and Sara." She handed the radio over to Nathan as he held his hand out for the device, wanting to speak with his old friend.
"Hey, pal. Glad you could join us." Nathan spoke, looking up at the sky as he could faintly hear the plane.
"Yeah, wouldn't miss it. So what happened to Samuel and our girl?"
"Rafe's got him. And Sara is working with Rafe." Nathan answered, the last part coming out bitterly. It earned gasps and questions from Elena and Sullivan, both of them shocked by the news that Sara would be working against her brothers. "She made a deal. My life for her support."
"And you got shot." Elena bit, moving closer to him.
"It was meant for Sam…I got in the way. The last thing I remember before blacking out was Sara calling for me and grabbing me." Nathan explained, meeting his wife's eyes.
"That sounds like our girl," Sullivan sighed lightly, a slight amusement to his tone. "Where are they heading?"
"Yeah." Nathan chuckled at the thought of Sara being protective of him. "They're headed to the northern side of the island. See if you can find a place to set down over there. Once we get Sam, we're going to need to get outta here pretty quick. Sara might need some convincing…the deal with Rafe and all."
"Copy that. Hey, hey…What about the treasure?"
Nathan groaned, sparing a glance at Elena as she was putting her backpack back on. "Forget it. We don't need it."
"But Alcazar?"
"No. There's no Alcazar. It's all bullshit." Nathan gritted out, a hand on his hip as he seethed at his brother's lies and betrayal. "Sam made it all up. What an asshole, right. Look, I'll fill you in on everything when I see you."
"Yeah. I can't wait. Look, you two, be safe down there."
"You know us," Nathan answered, ignoring the scoff from his wife as she chuckled at the thought of him being safe.
"Trade ya?" She grinned at him, offering him a gun she'd tucked into the back of her pants in place for the radio. He accepted the weapon and gave her the radio, which she placed back in her pocket.
"Thanks…" Nathan spoke, glancing away from her eyes. She brushed it off, but it wasn't enough. Meeting her gaze, he spoke again. "No, I mean...Thanks for saving me. Again."
"I almost didn't this time." Elena rolled her eyes, a faint smile on her lips. She gestured her head for him to follow her as she led him back down the trail she'd come from, as she had a stolen Shoreline jeep waiting for them. "So…Sara and Rafe…" Elena glanced over her shoulder, spotting Nathan's tensed jaw. "Emma and Sully filled me in on…somethings…"
"Let me fill you in some more," Nathan spoke more bitterly than he meant to. "They're sleeping together." That comment made Elena freeze, the blonde woman turning to face her husband as she stared at him in shock, trying to process that information. "I don't know all the details. Kinda don't want to." He stated, moving passed her.
Elena blinked a few times, rushing after Nathan. "From what Sullivan and Emma said, there's a mutual attraction between them. I guess the thrill of adventure is some kind of powerful aphrodisiac." She mumbled, earning a look from Nathan. "Hey, it worked on us." Elena joked, tapping his right arm lightly, making him roll his eyes. If the two of them hadn't met while treasure hunting, they may not have ever met or even had the feelings that had developed between them. "Maybe this will work out for the best?" Nathan scoffed dramatically. There was no way a possible relationship between his baby sister and a man like Rafe Adler could have any positive outcome for everyone involved.
