Chapter 12: Its not a figment of your imagination
Love
It was the motivation in the lives of many. Those in love were in love, and it could be spectacular or it could hurt. While others were still looking for love. Some were scorned and looking for revenge because of love. Others were heartbroken and left to felt like a piece of themselves was literally ripped apart. A broken heart was always hard to get over. And for a few, love was blossoming from the depths of the unknown.
Had she not seen it with her own two eyes, she would have laughed in the face of anyone who had fixed their mouths to say that Klaus Mikaelson had felt a sliver of affection for anyone outside of his inner circle. However, the events of today had proved her wrong. He seemed to have a great deal of affection for one more person, and to top it off it was a Bennett witch.
And that was a problem because it seemed the girl may return his affections.
Sitting back she looks at the dollhouse which resembles the Mikaelson home. She has everyone within his inner circle, painted to perfection as 12 inch dolls. Her almond eyes look over each dool. Rebekah with her blond hair, standing next to Marcel and his perfect smile. Next comes Elijah, who is back to wearing his suits because that is who Elijah Mikaelson is, a man that hides behind his suits as his armor, and his loyalty to his siblings for his negligence. Next is Klaus with his rage simmering below the surface. One eye is painted blue while the other is painted a yellow color to resemble the beast and vampire that he is. Close by is Hope, she is the only shred of light that man, and his family has going for them.
Observing the Mikaelson family for only mere more seconds she turns her head to the last doll remaining. Finally she picks up the doll resembling Bonnie Bennett. She hadn't planned too much for Bonnie simply because Klaus would ruin that situation all by himself. Plus her partner had plans for the Bennett witch. However as she looked at those green eyes all she could think about was how much Klaus seemed to adore her. That of course meant, if she had to go through Bonnie to get to Klaus, she would.
She'd hurt him, just like he hurt her. He took her away from the one she loved and now she would do the same to the one he was falling in love with.

Bonnie
You would think that after some random dude had come along sprouting off about challenging the supernatural here, people would be on edge. Yet that seemed to be a non factor. Instead after Vincent had spoken remaining words to end the meeting everyone prepares to head over to his house for food and drinks. It's back to business as usual. Nothing could bring the people of this place down, they were fighters and I could relate to that.
It was remarkable how we all just kind of came together when a threat was near. It didn't seem to matter that most of these people were arguing days ago, hours, or minutes ago. The supernatural of NOLA did not come to play, and that's what I loved about this place.
Arms linked together Lucy and I head toward the car but not before passing Klaus, Elijah, Gloria and Vincent who were in deep conversation. When we walk near them, the conversation comes to a halt, as Klaus and I share one long look. His eyes are still amber, showing no signs of blue. My lips curl up in a close mouth smile as Vincent turns to Lucy and I.
"Come on yall, I'll walk you to the car." Vincent says holding out both of his arms, one for to take.
Not surprisingly we take his arm and walk out of the meeting hall.
All the way out the door I feel amber eyes on me.

Klaus
He feels like a caged lion, one that wants to be released. He's restless, even more so than usual. He can usually chalk up his restlessness due to the fact that he has little patience but the mere moment that dried up villain wannabe started speaking, more so to her, he had been on edge.
"Are we boring you Niklaus?" Elijah calls causing him to turn his head in the direction of his brother and Gloria.
Sharply he looks over to Elijah. "Now is not the time to test me brother." He says beginning to pace back and forth. His ears twitch as he listens to what is going on outside, apparently Damon had joined the Bennett witches on the walk to the car. Of course that meddlesome little brat would try to use this opportunity to get to Bonnie. She was probably shaken, by the venom DeClair sent her way. Of course, his Bonnie would never admit it. For sure, Damon would use this as an in with her, maybe even use the friendship they had to get close to her all over again.
Elijah studies him. "Your eyes, Niklaus, your eyes are still amber."
He stops pacing and looks to Gloria who confirms Elijahs words.
"It's your wolf." Gloria says matter of fact. "I think your wolf has found someone it wants to protect, someone it might even consider to be his." The witch says her voice holding intrigue.
He looks at both Gloria and Elijah and rolls his eyes. "I am control of my life and my feelings and my wolf. The only reason why my eyes are still amber is because I'm ticked off!" He says ignoring the way his wolf, wants to see Bonnie again. "Nobody threatens what's mine!" He says darkly. "And that's all I'm going to say about it."
He storms off after that, needing to know his daughter is okay. On the way out he hears Gloria speak.
"Nobody threatens what's his, is talking about the city, or the girl?"
Elijah pauses for the longest of times. "Knowing Niklaus, he's talking about both."

Bonnie
I thought being escorted by Vincent had been enough, but it seemed that one person wasn't enough to walk us to the car, now we had two other vampire, Damon and Josh following close behind. Why we had two vampires and one warlock escorting us back to the car after Klaus had taken care of creepy was a testament to the guys we hung out with.
"Your super quiet and it's starting to freak me out." Lucy says causing me to finally look her way. I had been lost in thought, thinking about everything. "You alright?"
I bite my lip. "I'm just thinking..." I trail off.
"About?"
I let out a sigh. "Everything. But mostly, that creepy guy." I say feeling a sudden chill. "The way he talked to me, about me..." I trailed off. Over the years I had made a bunch of enemies stemming from my association with Elena and the Salvatore brothers but this– this seemed different. This felt like it was much more personal.
Lucy grabs my shoulders. "That dude doesn't know you- don't let him get under your skin." She says reassuringly.
I shake my head not buying it. "He had real hate for me, like it ran deep."
My words hang between the two of us.
"I think he was really just trying to see how far he could get, especially since you had a hybrid and vampire flanking your sides." Lucy says nudging me, with a half smile.
I let out a groan. "They were just being protective."
Lucy nods as she climbs in the car, I follow. "Yep and everyone saw just how protective, they were of you." She chuckles.
I send her a look. "You already know how Damon is around me."
Lucy looks out only to glare at Damon from the car. "Damon is possessive, obsessive and damn near over bearing when it comes to you." "But I'm talking about Klaus." Pause. "Everyone has said he was heartless but, that doesn't seem to be the case when it comes to you."
I was still coming to grips with everything, first seeing Klaus with Hope. Which had been a beautiful sight to see. Klaus was everything a father should be with his daughter. It rocked me, seeing him, but rocked me more seeing them together. And then he made sure to rock me again when he protected me.
Up until recently I would've never thought that Klaus had so much heart, but here it seemed to beat loudly. "He has a heart." I say suddenly. If you had asked me years ago if I thought Klaus was capable of anything but destruction I would've laughed out loud. But I saw it, I saw glimpses of his heart whenever he talked about Hope. But really I had seen it with the two of them together.
Lucy looks over at me in a way that gave me pause. "I'm glad you see it that way." She says thoughtfully. Klaus had saved Bonnie once before and that made him okay in her book. "Just so you know, the fact that he nearly ripped homeboy to pieces was his way of showing you more of his heart." Smile. "Looks like he might like you as much as you like him."
Her words follow us all the way to Vincents.

Klaus
He had watched as she had been escorted by the warlock and Damon Salvatore of all people. Every inch of him was vibrating with anger, at the mere fact that- that worthless vampire was still in her presence. The Salvatore even dared to put his hand on her lower back. He certainly had a death wish.
Pulling out his phone. He quickly got one of his hybrids and rattled that he wanted a few of his men protecting three new places. The first being the rental Bonnie was staying at with Damon. He could barely trust Damon to be able to tie his shoe, so he needed to make sure someone was watching Bonnie for him... aside from Josh. The second place was the magic shop because well, that went without saying. The third place had been Lucys adobe. If by any chance anyone was trying to get to Bonnie or by extension Lucy he needed them to be protected as well.
After dealing with all of that he phoned his sister. Hope already had the best security in the form of Rebekah and Marcel, however he still needed to check in. He needed to know Hope was still living it up. Rebekah had sent him a picture of she, Marcel and Hope and the picture had made him smile. Now though he wanted to make sure she was down for her nap.
The phone beeps twice before Rebekah appears on the screen.
"You look angry, what happened?" Rebekah ask with a concoction of green stuff on her face.
He smothers a laugh. "Someone tried to test my nerves today."
Rebekah humph. "Are they dead?"
"Do you think I just run around ending people on the spot or,
She fixes him with a look. "Your temper is notorious Nik! So I ask again–"
He shrugs. "Probably by now yeah." He lets out a sigh. "How was Hope, did she have fun?"
Rebekah soon turns the phone in the direction of Hope who has fallen fast asleep on the couch, right between Rebekah and Marcel. The latter of the two has his head tilted back and is snoring lightly.
He chuckles at that, his whole body relaxing. "At least they tired each other out."
She only chuckles. "We're vampires we don't need sleep but Hope, that girl can tire anyone out. Poor Marcel didn't have a chance." She says shaking her head at the poor thing.
He nods. "Let her sleep for at least two hours if not she'll get cranky."
She only rolls her eyes but a soft smile flits to her lips.
He watches as his sister soon gets up and heads outside. Once she's far enough from the house she begins to speak again. "You know, Hope couldn't stop talking about her early afternoon with you." She grins. "She told me you met someone and her name was Bonnie."
He opens his mouth. "It was accident, we ran into them and Bonnie introduced herself." Pause. "They would've met eventually." He mutters feeling put on the spot. He wasn't one to be put on the spot and that was what his sister had done. "Besides Hope is my daughter and I can introduce her to whomever I want to." He grounds out.
Typically his bed buddies were just that, he never introduced them to anyone or anything close to him. Running into the Bennett witches had not been his intention, but the moment had gotten away from him and it seemed like the perfect time to introduce the two. Especially since Hope had adored the dress that adorned Bonnie.
Rebekah throws her head back with laughter. "No need to bring out the proverbial claws." She says her eyes dancing. "She also showed us everything." Pause "That little one is powerful." She says proudly.
Now that had gotten his attention. He had been prepared to ignore the rest of what his dear sister had to say but when he mentioned Hope using magic, that kind of snapped him out of it. "What do you mean she showed you?"
Rebekah looked to the side as if feeling that eyes are watching her and then faces her phone. "We were watching one of her favorite films and when the prince kissed the fair maidens hand she pointed to the screen and low and behold you pop kissing the very hand of Bonnie Bennett." She says teasingly.
He looks to the left then the right. "I don't have the faintest idea of what your talking about." He lies.
She's pointing at the phone now. "You're such a liar Nik, I saw you!"
"Maybe that was my double." He continues knowing good and well his sister hated when he denied the truth to her.
Rebekah is silent for a moment before she speaks again. "You fancy her don't you?" She asks, a smile blooming on her lips. "Are you picturing a white picket fence where you'll raise a pack of Bennett Mikaelson children?"
"Don't be absurd." He retorts quickly. Hope was the only miracle he needed and the only one that would probably be granted his way. And he was just fine with that.
Rebekah bites at her nail for a second. "But you do like her? I havent seen you this light in ages." Pause. "It's a good look Nik, you and her...You and Bonnie might be a good look."
"Do mind your business Bekah."
He can't help but to hang up on his sister. He and Bonnie weren't serious, they were, fun. Love had nothing to do with them and never would.

Bonnie
Pulling up to the house, I notice that Damon is standing outside his car. He has his arms crossed over his chest, sun glasses on and his eyes are already on me. I knew that we were still in a weird place, I still hadn't really forgiven him and I felt like he needed to apologize again because the reason we weren't back to normal was because of the things he had said, hurtful things, and the fact that he treated me like a child. I wasn't Elena, and I didn't appreciate being treated like her.
But we worked well together, even that crazy plan we hitched with Klaus, it worked and even I couldn't deny that.
I knew at some point in time we would have to have another talk, a talk that was more substantial, but first we needed to talk about who showed up at the meeting.
I toss a look in the direction of Lucy who sees what I see and looks unimpressed by it. "Luce, can you give us a minute?" I ask causing my cousin to throw her hands up in the air and shake her head.
"Sure," Lucy huffs out. "I'm going to go find Vincent and see if he needs any help." Lucy says making sure to glare hard at Damon on her way to the back yard.
I watch as she walks away and then motion with my head for Damon to come over. We decide to go for a walk, around the block.
"You okay, you look spooked?" Damon asks before I get a word out.
I'm poised to lie and say I'm fine but then decide against it. "That guy creeped me out." I say finally. I lick my lips. "But Klaus took care of him, so."
Damon has a frown on his lips at the mere mention of Klaus. I can see it in his eyes he wants to say something but instead he just says "Yeah Klaus seems to saving everyone these days." He says bitterly. "Stefan might have to put his cape away, his ex seems to be doing a better job with it on."
I send him a look that is not impressed. Bringing up Stefan and his history with Klaus was not going to deter me from my own situation with Klaus.
Silently, I start walking with him catching up to me and walking alongside me.
"I thought the heretics were gone, that they got sucked up into oblivion." I say conversationally.
Damon stops me. "Most of them were sucked up, and the others scattered," He licks his lips. "But, this– the way he looked at you, was like this was something personal."
A deep shudder runs through me, because it was true. The last heretic I had encountered aside from Nora had been Julian and he had always managed to give me the creeps. He was friends with Enzo but every time we were alone, he would stare and make me feel uncomfortable. "Do- Do you think it's Julian." I ask my voice shaking.
Damon throws his arm around me, and for a moment I allow it. Allow myself to be comforted by my best friend. He had known that Julian had grown rather attached and like me he didn't like it. "Hey, he's dead, Stefan killed him."
I nod my head and bite my nails. "You're right, but people always have a way of coming back to surprise you."
He looks down now. The only other person who had been friends with the witch/ vampires had been Enzo. Though if he really thought about it. Enzo had ghosted after things had ended with Bonnie. Still though, he wondered if he could use that soft spot the man seemed to have for him, to ask about his old buddies. "What about Enzo, what if we give him a call?"
My head snaps up at that notion. "Damon, he was devastated after the breakup." I say remembering the final moments we had shared, which was not ideal. It was like I had to almost knock sense into him because, he couldn't get it together. Not that night and not several nights later.
Flashback
I had been feeling the effects of not feeling satisfied in my relationship for a while, but day in day out I try to ignore, till one day I had felt that my relationship was like a weight on my chest. I was trying to be happy for someone else and really I just wanted to be happy for myself.
I had seen the signs, read the writing on the wall and knew what it all meant. I had checked out of my relationship with Enzo. Somewhere along the line, things had changed for me. Which was ironic because he still looked at me as if I were his world, and I felt like I was living a lie. I felt myself pulling away and I knew why I was pulling away. Although I loved Enzo, I did really love him, I wasn't in love with him anymore. The knowledge that I was going to be the person to break a heart had weighed heavy on me. But if I stayed, it wouldn't be fair to either of us.
"You've been so quiet love, care to share what's on your mind?" Enzo asks, causing me to look up from my plate of food.
I had decided a public place was the best place to do this, but now that we were out for the night, it all felt wrong. Everything felt wrong. My dress felt too confined as my heart was feeling like it was going to leap out of my chest. My smile had been too fake, even I had to wonder if he had noticed. And most of all, the timing was wrong. But if I put off, like I had in the past, it would never happen. Afterall when was the right time to say goodbye to someone?
I swallow the lump that's in my throat and decided to finish off my glass of wine. I had never been the type that relied on too much liquid courage but for this, I needed it and plenty of liquid courage.
"Enzo, I've been thinking..." The words hang between us as his eyes zero in on me.
"Bonnie love," He says quickly reaching out for my hand. His eyes are molted chocolate pools that swarm with uncertainty then, anger, then it seems to all fade away as resolve floods them.
I close my eyes shaking my head, all the while trying to jerk my hand free. He squeezes tight causing my eyes to fly open. "It doesn't feel right anymore Enzo. I feel like, I'm drowning in the two of us, and I'm staying to make you happy but,"
He rubs his thumb over my hand. "You're happy, I know you are, we are happy– I feel it, I know it deep in my soul."
A lone tear falls from my eye. "I can't do this Enzo, it's not fair to either one of us." Pause. "You deserve someone who is in love with you as much as you love them." I bite my lip. "And I...I just don't feel that way anymore." I say finally as tears start to fall from my eyes.
At my words his surprise state causes him to let go of my hand. I flex my fingers and move my wrist in a circle.
"But you can, we just need to separate ourselves from all the distractions, from your friends, from Damon." He says coming round to bring his chair close to me. He finger lifts my chin up so our eyes meet. "We can have it all, we can have it all again– just you and me." His words are soft, reassuring even, but I know, what's in my heart and I've made up my mind.
Moistening my lips I look over to him. "I will always love you, but I am no longer in love with you." I say honestly. "I can't go back." I whisper.
Quick as a snap of the fingers his hand is gripping my chin. "You think I'm going to let this go, not when I know how good we are together."
Anger rushes through me as my face heats up and so does his hand. "You don't have a choice." I say walking away.
When I get outside it's raining which is just lovely. I weigh my options for only a moment before making a break for it and running to my car. Once inside I let out a shaky breath. I did it, it hurt the both of us, but I did what I needed to do. One day, I hope it would hurt him less then it does today.
Pulling off I see him standing in the rain, he's screaming my name so loud that I can hear it all the way home.
End of flashback
The thought still brings chills to my body, even now months later.
"I don't want to drag him back into all of anything, especially if it's not good for him, or for me." I say suddenly feeling cold. I can't get the image of his cold eyes out of my head. It was almost the same way DeClair looked at me as he said I was bringing shame on my family name. If that was really the case, I had done it years ago.
He must sense my stress because soon he has his hands rubbing my shoulders. "I will take care of Enzo, it's just a simple call between friends.
I nod my head. "Okay, but this isn't just about you and me, if they return who knows what they'll wreck here." I thin my lips out. "We can't let them destroy this place." I say my voice wavering. "It's magic Damon and if by chance our old foes have followed us here–"
He stops me almost immediately. "I will handle it. If I'm lucky maybe I can get Vincent to help me out as well."
I look on at him skeptically. "We can't just expect Vincent to want to jump in on this mission."
"True." He says suddenly thoughtful. "But it can't hurt to ask, to have a bit of backup when it comes to Enzo."
I in turn nod, realizing that Enzo had been just as upset with Damon, as he was with me. "Please just, whatever you do, be careful and don't let Enzo know where we are."
He smiles this time and brings me close to him. "I promise to be careful." His arms wrapped around me feels like old times but different at the same time. "I'm much more stealthy then you give me credit for." Damon cracks before placing a slow kiss to my cheek.
I roll my eyes. "Whatever you say." I say nudging him as we start to walk back to the house.
When we reach the house Damon stands in front of me hands in his pockets. "Whatever happens, if it's the witch/vampires or something else, we fight like hell Bon, we always do." He says giving me a sheepish smile. "But this time we fight for the right reasons."
I bite my lip. "Even if this has nothing to do with us, you'll still fight."
He walks closer to me so our feet our touching. "I'll be right next to you– if you'll let me."
BB-BB-BB
After my conversation with Damon we head to the backyard where Vincent is still having the cook out, despite what happened at the meeting. Although this get together is much smaller than those who attended the meeting, it's still big enough. Vincent had only invited people he was close to in the community and that still seemed rather large to me. But, Vince was a good guy and people loved him.
"You guys good?" Vincent calls from the barbecue pit.
"Yeah." I say with a shaky nod.
"Ditto." Damon says from beside me. "How about, I help you with, some of that cooking Vince."
The warlock looks between the two of us and settles on me. "Can he throw down?"
I bite back a grin because at least this felt normal. "He's alright." I say gaining a glare.
"The lies you tell." Damon says to my retreating figure. "Next thing you'll be lying about how perfect my ass is." Damon calls after me. I can only roll my eyes and keep moving.
Soon I spot Lucy and Danny chatting together by the ice chest filled with sodas and whatnot. I wave at the two of them and decided to join them when suddenly they are eclipsed by a incensed looking hybrid.
Damn, I must be slipping because I didn't see that coming at all.
"May I have a word?" Klaus asks his voice sounding much like he's trying to reel in his anger.
I watch him as he stands in front of me, how rigid his body is, the furrowed brow, the anger that is so strong that people should feel it miles away.
Despite myself and everything that is around us I take a step forward into his personal space, causing the angry look on his face to slowly fade away to surprise."We're supposed to be having fun here. Vincent has cooked all the food and it's a great way to build trust amongst each other." His nostrils flare as a lone curl slips down to his forehead. My hand immediately pushes the curl back and we both freeze at the notion.
I can feel eyes are all over the place watching with baited breath. My hand falls away from his face as Klaus clasped my hand in his much bigger one. He places a kiss to the inside of my hand.
"Fine, we'll have fun!" He says with fake enthusiasm. "But you owe me." He says leaning into my space suddenly. "And I know just how I plan on collecting."
The look he gives me is sinful.
I swat at him, while he surprises me with a genuine smile on his lips. "Don't get shy on me now, I like it when you're brazen." Pause. "After all, we did let everyone know we're screwing."
I shake my head at him. "Lucy is signaling for me to come her, way." I say causing Klaus to look over his shoulder and no doubt Lucy and Danny are signaling me over. Lucy is waving me over. While Danny is thrusting. They both stop when Klaus looks over but it's too late, he's already seen them and I'm trying my best not to bust out laughing.
Of course, I fail and the giggles that I was trying to desperately keep at bay are front and center. In fact my laughter almost seems contagious because across the way Lucy and Danny are laughing as well.
My feet are already poised to leave when Klaus grabs a hold of my hand. He's got that look on his face again and I can only hope I can keep it together.
"Dinner." He says suddenly.
"What?" I ask before my mind heads straight to the gutter.
"Dinner at your place...we'll talk."
I look down at our entwined hands, and then look up at him. "Ye-Yeah."I stammer out. My face was hot and to top it off, I felt some kind of fluttering in my stomach. Those butterflies needed to chill out. Butterflies led to crushing, crushing led to falling in love and I wanted no part of love.
He's looking at my lips and all I can think is he's going to try and kiss me in front of everyone and I just might let him. The only problem, is that a kiss from Klaus is not just an ordinary kiss. Lips would catch fingers would roam and that was how you lose your clothes in the presence of Klaus Mikaelson.
Once again he leans into my space, his face getting dangerously close to mine. "Afraid?" He asks aqua eyes baring down on me.
I meet his stare and tilt my head up to get a good look at him. "Never." I say causing twin dimples to appear on his cheeks.
He smirks. "Good." And soon places a slow kiss to my forehead.
When he pulls away, a faint smile finds its way to my lips. He was far smother than anyone ever gave him credit for.
"Enjoy the cook out." I call feeling his eyes on me the whole time as I walk away.

Klaus
He watches with narrowed eyes everything about her as she walks away. He can see the subtle movements of her enticing hips as the go to and fro, the way her skin still shimmers with a flush made by her sudden movements and his reaction. He can even still smell the shampoo she uses on her hair, as the wind blows it his way, coconut had never smelled this good before.
The only reason he glances away from her was because Elijah comes to stand close to him. Why did his brother keep popping up like that?
"Are you planning on continuing making a public spectacle of this thing you've got going?" Elijah asks still in jeans. He and Bekah had a bet going when his brother would crack, only time would tell who would win.
He turns his head ever so slowly in his brothers' direction. "You act as if I put my finger up her dress."
Elijah levels him with a look that has him grinning. "I didn't." He says as straight faced as possible.
Once again, his elegant brother looks thoroughly at him. "But you thought about it?"
Now it's his turn to send his brother a devious look. "Oh Elijah, now is not the quite time for gossip." He says patting his brother on the shoulder. Elijah looks nearly offended by the gesture.
"Perhaps, you Niklaus, should've thought about that before you wolfed out in front of everyone and placed Ms. Bennett behind you."
He can only let out a low growl that Elijah is unfazed by.
Suddenly someone is standing close by, a plate in one hand while the other holds a fork. He looks over at the intruder surprised to see that Gloria had actually showed up. She was, the oldest witch living here, though she looked no older than fifty years old. In truth she was well over two hundred years old.
"He's right, that move was very telling Niklaus." Gloria says gaining an appreciative look from Elijah.
He can only scratch the back of his neck. "I refuse to let the two of you make something out of nothing, now can we at least find a place to sit because I refuse to have this conversation standing around and whatnot."
Gloria says nothing but leads the way over to where she was sitting with the two original vampires following close behind.
"What do you suppose that was back at the meeting, who it was, what it was?" Elijah asks once they are sitting.
Gloria puts her fork down. "I've never seen anything like it in all my years." Gloria says.
"It kept looking at Bonnie." He says finally. "It was almost like he was testing us, testing all of us, but Bonnie and I more specifically." He says thinking out loud.
Gloria takes a sip of her sweet tea. "We're going to have to pull together all of resources for this one." She says slowly. "That thing, was just a warning and we need to stop it before it becomes a problem."
Elijah wipes his forehead. "What do suppose we do Gloria?"
She finally looks in the direction of both he and Elijah. "I'm gonna talk to Vincent, and then we're going to piece together the information we have, and any thing that is out of the ordinary will have to be checked out.
"That means we'll be working closely with detective Chase." He says suddenly remembering how the wolf had been enthralled by Bonnie. That was going to be a problem.
His words go ignored at Gloria continues to speak. "But for now, enjoy the cook out. We won today." She says placing her hand on both his and Elijahs hand. "Tomorrow we live to fight again."
BB-BB-BB
The cook out turns out to be just what everyone had needed. Vincent had manned the barbecue for a while and then people showed up with loads of food in the foil containers and the party had really begun. Music played causing some to dance. Others were caught up in conversation, gossip or just watching the festivities.
I happen to be one of the few people who were dancing, a cup in my hand as I twirled around with Vincent.
"Your boyfriends are watching." Vincent says before cracking up at his own joke.
I send him a withering look but look just behind him to see Klaus. Out of the corner of my eye, I see Damon is chatting with Danny, but he's still watching me. It appears Lucy and Elijah are sitting together in their own world as well.
"You did good, bringing everyone together." I say as Vincent and I continue our dance. Here we had wolves, witches, vampires and just about everyone supernatural who wanted to be apart of this thing Vincent had going on.
He chuckles. "I look at it this way, we're all family here we just like each other far less than a typical family would."
I only hum in response.
"That thing, that came to the meeting, DeClair," He says suddenly. "He can want to bring us down all he wants but we fight for our own and this place, is ours and so is the people in it."
He dips me suddenly causing me to let out a gasp just as he brings me up. "And just you know, I consider you family."
Touched I give him a hug.
So, just so you know, your boyfriend is coming over here and he doesn't look to happy."
I pull away from him again, "I told you I don't have a boyfriend."
No sooner than the words leave my mouth Klaus is standing alongside Vincent. His eyes are back to being amber when a while ago they had changed back to denim blue.
"You don't mind if I cut in, do you mate?"
Vincent looks between the two of us, I give him a nod and he soon heads back over to a table full of Vincent fangirls. Hopefully one of those fangirls are the one, because Vincent is the best.
Once we're alone Klaus grasps me in his arms as the song changes to something that has all the grown folks my parents age getting up and slow dancing.
"I see your sporting those amber eyes again, you plan on scaring away everyone?"
He chuckles as his hand rest on my lower back as he leads us in a dance. "From you, probably."
For the longest time I try to figure out if he's just joking or if he's being honest. I don't get to further examine his words because he speaks again.
"I'm leaving." He says suddenly. I must've looked surprised because he kind of grins. "I'm going home." He clarifies. "Hope should be getting up soon and after spending a day with her aunt and brother who probably spoiled her, I need to remind her, I'm the better option always."
We both share a laugh because that sounds just like something he would say.
"Honestly, I want to be the first thing she see's when she wakes." He says eyes turning back to a pretty blue.
Goodness the way he loves his daughter could melt any cold heart. I'm reminded of a conversation Lucy and I had about the way Klaus loved his daughter.
Flashback
"I still can't believe the dude we saw walking around with his daughter and a cup of ice cream is the same dude that I've heard horror stories about." Lucy breathes out shocked. I'm just as shocked as she is.
"I've never seen him with his daughter."
Lucy pulls a look at me. "Yeah that was kind of surreal, it's not a deal breaker though is it?"
"No, no!" I say shaking my head. "I mean it's just as much time as I spend on top of him, or under him– it still shocks me to see him," I pause a let out a breath. "To see him in this new light." I say turning to face her. "If you would've told me years ago, Klaus Mikaelson–"
Lucy shimmies next to me, bumping my shoulders. "Don't you mean, Niklaus for you."
I rub my hand over my face, she was right! He had asked me to call him Niklaus, like next level shit. "My point is, I never would've imagined he could have so much heart, and show so much affection with a simple look."
End of flashback
Our eyes catch. "I'm sure you'll make her the happiest little girl in the world."
His hand trails on my skin as the song continues, his body close to me.
"Is that-the only reason you came over here?" I ask after a while.
He sends me a devious grin. "Actually I just wanted to feel you up in public."
I push at his chest, causing twin dimples to appear on his cheeks. "Pig."
"I'm all wolf." He says nuzzling my cheek causing his stubble to tickle me. He inhales and then pulls away to look at me. His face is back to business. "When you get home, you have an additional bodyguard who will stay outside your home, as well as one at the magic shop and at Lucys."
I rub my hands over my face. "Klaus I'm not easily shaken." I say to his face that tells me his word has been spoken.
He looks me up an down. "I am quite aware of that, but we both know DeClair wasn't the real bad guy, he was the lackey that was sent to rattle everyone." Pause. "Especially you."
He was right, I knew but I still didn't like it. "Fine."
He furrows his brows. "Fine? Just like that? Your not going to argue with me or anything."
I shake my head. "No. But only because you have to get back to Hope." It's my turn to crack a grin. "We'll be discussing this much later."
He nods. And then turns to leave when something makes me call after him.
"Klaus?"
When he turns my way, I lean up close to him and place a kiss to his lips. "Just a little something to remind you of me." I say echoing his words from days ago.
Elsewhere
By the time he'd reached his destination the venom was starting to melt his skin away, he was dying, at least in this body. At a snails pace he finally made it to the door where she stood, hair wild all around her face. In fact she looked like she was enjoying this far too much.
"A little help here will do." He says gritting as his internal organs start to shut down. He spits and a few teeth fall at her feet.
Instead of lifting a finger she just stares out at him with amused eyes. "You were too busy being flashy and getting as many licks in to do what you were told to do." She says walking down the steps to walk around him. "I don't like it when my pets don't follow directions."
He falls to the floor now, spitting up blood. "I'm not your freaking pet, we're in this together."
A ebony eyebrow arches. "Are we, because you had one job and you couldn't do that." She spits out. "You're pathetic really, I should let you rot in that body."
He rolls onto his back and starts laughing. "You could but, your still scared of him!"
She grins now and leans down on one knee. The smell of anger is fresh."For that cher, you'll rot in that body till the poison renders you nearly extinct and only right before you are about to be dust, I'll return you to your body." She stands up. "We're in this together, but let me remind you, I'm older and a lot wiser. My heart has been black long before yours and that's how I operate."
He starts breathing hard. "You were watching from afar weren't you."
Her eyes dance with fire in them, as she spares him a glance. "I've got eyes everywhere mon cherie, you should remember that." She turns to leave but stops upon reaching the steps. "You'll get your revenge but not before I get mine." With that she winks and slams the door.
He holds the necklace that she gave him to halt the compulsion that was inevitable with Klaus. It held only a tiny bit of her magic, if needed be he might have to trade if the partnership between the two of them became to hazardous. Soon as the thought crossed his mind he dismissed it. He'd play the game her way when it came to her fun, but for his fun, all bets were off.
When they were finished, everyone would truly know the meaning of wrath. Everyone knew what they said about payback and the payback they were sending was going to be long and drawn out till the last drop.
