I get bored on the train to work and this is one of the resulting stories, it is however the only one from this particular story.
I hope you like it.
"Sir," Sam called from the kitchen.
"Coming Carter," Jack replied, glad for the excise to leave Daniel, who was talking about the merits of one thing or another, which to Jack was beyond boring although it looked like Teal'c was finding it interesting.
"Yes Carter?" Jack asked as he entered the kitchen, "What can I do for you?"
"I can't find the beer sir," Sam answered, "It's not in the usual place."
Jack frowned. "I was sure I'd brought some and I was positive there was already some in the fridge anyway. It's team night; I always have beer for team nights."
Sam smiled and shrugged. "Sorry sir but I can't find any."
Jack quickly checked the fridge, even though he knew Sam wouldn't have missed the beer if it was there. Once he was sure it was empty of beer he went over to the back door and checked to see if there were any crates of beer there. There wasn't and he sighed in defeat. "Looks like you were right Carter," Jack said, "It appears that I've run out of beer."
"Oh no," Sam joked, "The world is going to end."
Jack stuck his tongue out at her and she laughed, Jack O'Neill was unlike any commanding officer she had ever had. "We'll just have to go and get some then, won't we Carter."
"Yes sir," Sam answered, "Beer run it is."
"We can either go to the store," Jack said, "Or I hear that astronomers have discovered a cloud of alcohol not far from here. It's 10,000 light years away, so not too far at all. Contains enough alcohol to make 400 trillion trillion pints of beer, I think that ought to be enough to keep us going for a while."
Sam looked at him in shock. She knew he liked astronomy but she hadn't realised that he was into it enough to keep up to date with recent finds, especially one that had only hit the news a few days before.
Jack obviously saw the shock on her features because he smiled, shrugged and said, "I'm more than just a pretty face Carter."
"I already knew that," Sam retorted quickly, before adding a quick, "Sir," on to the end.
Jack just shook his head in response. After a few seconds of silence he said, "Well then Carter, let's check we don't need anything else before we go on a beer run to the store."
Sam nodded in agreement and leant against the counter as jack did a quick check of his kitchen cupboards and checked the fridge again. When he had finished he stepped back and leant beside Sam on the counter.
"So what do we need then sir?" Sam asked.
"Beer," Jack answered, "And chips. Snack things really, I seem to have almost run out of those too."
Sam smiled and nodded. She pushed herself off the counter and watched as Jack did the same. Jack led the way out of the room and into the lounge. "We're going on a beer run," he announced to Daniel and Teal'c, who were still talking about who knew what, "Do you need anything?"
"No thanks Jack," Daniel answered quietly, breaking off from whatever it was he had been saying.
"Indeed not O'Neill," was Teal'c's contribution.
Jack nodded before turning to Sam and asking, "You coming Carter?"
"Yes sir," Sam answered with a smile.
Jack smiled in return before he led the way out into the hall. After they'd both put on their shoes and grabbed their jackets Jack went to pick up the keys to his truck but Sam stopped him. "My car is blocking you in sir so we might as well take it."
Jack nodded and opened the front door. "We'll be back in a bit Daniel and Teal'c, try not to break anything while we're gone."
Sam smiled as they heard Daniel begin the grumble in the other room.
"Right," Jack said, leading the way through the door and then shutting it behind them, "Beer run."
