After Doc Yewll explained what was going on Nolan and Datak took off immediately for the McCawley ranch.

"Fuck," Nolan cursed. "That was Christie."

"I've got her," Datak yelled, running off in the direction of the scream.

"No wait, that thing is dangerous… stop!" Nolan shouted at his husband as he ran after him, but when Nolan rounded the corner Datak was already out of sight.

"Damn it, Datak," Nolan yelled. "Where the fuck did you go?"

Nolan knelt down and studied the ground carefully. The tracks indicated a struggle of some sort, so Nolan got to his feet and followed Datak's footprints to the edge of the woods. He found trampled foliage and drag marks clearly showing the path, so Nolan knew that something pulled Christie into the forest and Datak took after them blindly. Now, he had to scramble to catch them before his husband ended up dead.

Rafe McCawley raced back to the ranch to retrieve his weapons after hearing his son in law's announcement from the arch. Irisa and Tommy found Alak and told him about her vision. The three of them were now on their way to the Rafe's house while the mayor held an emergency town meeting. Amanda wanted everybody in one place for security issues. The report from the Voltan stated that only one person died because of an attack, but she needed to make sure that nobody in Defiance got hurt. Unfortunately, Stahma and Kenya refused to listen. Stahma insisted on making sure her son was safe, so Kenya went with her to the McCawley ranch.

Christie stared helplessly into a pair of large, obsidian pools of checkerboard-patterned eyes. The thing cocked its head to the side and stared back at the frightened girl. Christie gasped and let out another loud scream as creature straddling her hips suddenly ripped open her blouse.

The sound of breaking branches coming from the woods caught her attention, and Christie looked up just in time to see her father in law crashing through the trees with charge blade raised.

"Datak!" she screamed, her voice shaking with fear and relief. "Help me!"

Datak's eyes widened as he saw the creature. He knew this was no ordinary threat – that he needed to be careful. With a roar, he charged forward, slashing at the creature with his charge blade. The creature chittered animatedly and slammed Datak into the ground, knocking the wind out of him.

Nolan, having finally caught up with Datak, pulled out his blaster and tried to get a shot off, but it was no use. Nolan couldn't take the chance of hitting Datak or Christie, so together, he and Datak fought the creature hand to hand, their adrenaline pumping as they desperately tried to protect Christie.

At last, Datak successfully plunged his charge blade into one of the creature's massive eyes, bringing its rampage to a sudden stop. The creature collapsed lifelessly at Datak's feet.

Christie let out a strangled gasp. "What in the world was that thing and where did it come from?" she exclaimed, frantically trying to cover her bare chest.

"That," Datak said with a look of pure disgust, "was a genetically engineered monstrosity created by the Voltan in San Fransisco.

Rafe McCawley's arrival on the scene was met with a shout of surprise as he saw the motionless creature laying before Datak. He immediately noticed his daughter, sitting on the ground and visibly shaking. Acting without hesitation, he draped his coat over her exposed chest.

Christie looked up at her father-in-law, her eyes filling with tears of relief. "I thought I was going to die," she whispered, her voice barely audible.

"I would never let that happen, Christie," Datak replied as he pulled his charge blade from the dead creature's eye.

Rafe looked incredulous. "You took that thing down, Datak?"

Nolan smirked. "Yup, almost single handedly too. Now, aren't you glad that you didn't kill him, Rafe?"

Rafe barked a short laugh. "I suppose so."

Alak, his mother, and Kenya appeared at that moment. Alak quickly made his way to his wife's side, embracing her in his arms.

"Are you okay, Christie?" he asked, his voice filled with concern.

"We need to get inside," Nolan warned. "There is another one of those creatures on the loose somewhere."

The group nodded in agreement and started moving towards the ranch, with Christie shuddering as she looked back at the still form of the creature. The once peaceful forest around her home now seemed eerie and dangerous, with the knowledge of what lurked within its shadows.

Once inside the ranch, everyone immediately went into action. Nolan and Datak searched the ranch, out buildings, and surrounding grounds, securing the perimeter, while the others helped Christie inside the house. Irisa and Tommy arrived with Doc Yewll and the mayor. They helped with the search for any hiding places that the other creature might be using, while Alak cradled Christie close to his chest.

After Nolan was sure that the premises were secure, Amanda gathered everyone in the main living area for an urgent meeting. She stressed the importance of staying together and being on high alert. The Voltan report had mentioned that these creatures were highly intelligent and adaptable, making them a formidable foe. According to the doctor, they had the ability to imitate other forms, although not very convincingly. That's why it appeared somewhat human-like.

According to Doc Yewll, the creatures initially seemed harmless until a female technician entered the lab. This triggered a violent response from one of the creatures, which proceeded to assault her. It's believed that the creatures are attempting to reproduce through these acts.

"Do you have any idea how many of these things the Voltan made?" Rafe inquired.

Doc Yewll confirmed with a nod. "There were originally three hundred, but they were all destroyed except for the two that managed to escape."

"I understand, but how did they manage to lose those two and didn't you say that one person was killed?" Datak asked.

Doc responded with a sarcastic tone, saying they didn't provide much information and simply claimed they had "lost" them. Apparently, one of the creatures that escaped killed a man while he was trying to protect his girlfriend.

Mayor Amanda Rosewater paced the room, her expression grave. "We need a plan," she said firmly. "We cannot underestimate this creature. It may still be out there. Can we determine the reason behind the creation of these creatures?" she inquired.

Doc shook her head and said, "The Voltan claims it was just a simple experiment that went awry. But in my opinion, they were created for warfare."

With a hint of venom in his tone, Tommy retorted, "Just like their Hellions, a simple experiment."

Nolan exchanged a look with Datak, both men knowing the danger that still lurked beyond the ranch's boundaries. "We'll need to set up watch rotations and patrols," Nolan said, breaking his gaze from Datak. "We cannot let our guard down. I have to return to Defiance and secure the town."

"I will be accompanying you," Datak declared with firm conviction, his words leaving no room for argument.

Amanda gave a nod of affirmation. "Irisa, Tommy, you'll remain here to assist Rafe with protecting the ranch while Nolan, Datak, Doc Yewll, and the rest of us return to Defiance. If one creature went after Christie, there's a possibility that the other is still in the area."

Stahma declared, "I will also be staying here. I cannot bear to leave my son and daughter-in-law's side."

With her arms crossed in determination, Kenya spoke up. "If she's staying, then I'm staying too."

With a warning from Doc Yewll to be cautious, she and the mayor's group headed back to Defiance.

The group arrived at Defiance and quickly got to work, setting up watch rotations and patrols to keep the town safe. Nolan and Datak used their knowledge of the town layout and its people to strategically position guards and set up perimeters. They knew that the creature was intelligent and adaptable, so they needed to be prepared for anything.

Amanda was determined to keep the town informed, despite the potentially alarming nature of the situation. She called for a community gathering, where she spoke to the citizens of Defiance and outlined the imminent danger they were facing. She implored everyone to stay alert and indoors until the threat had passed.

In a small cave to the south of Defiance, the creature crouched in a corner. It could still feel the pain of its sibling's horrific death and it mourned silently for the loss. It couldn't comprehend why all of his brothers had been ruthlessly killed. Their only desire was for a family, to have children and make them feel whole.

The creature gazed down at the lifeless body of the woman lying next to him. It was filled with regret and sorrow for causing her death, but it had no idea that giving birth to its child would result in such a tragic outcome.

The baby was swaddled in the scraps of fabric from the woman's torn clothing and whimpered quietly as it reached out its tiny arms towards the creature.

The creature, still mourning its fallen sibling, felt a sudden surge of protectiveness towards its baby. It carefully picked up the fragile infant, cradling it against its chest. It didn't know what else to do but to run - to escape and find safety for its child.

Finally the creature left the confines of the cave, leaving the body of the dead woman behind. It hesitantly ventured outside into the dark of the night. The creature was disoriented, unsure of which direction to take, but it desperately needed to find nourishment for the child. The creature was unable to feed the newborn infant on its own.

The creature cautiously made its way towards the city, scanning the area for any sign of movement. Its keen eyes and heightened senses were its only advantages against the humans that now hunted it. The creature knew that it had to stay hidden, but it also knew that it had to find food for its child.

As it neared the city gate, the creature spotted a group of people huddled together, discussing their plans to keep the town safe. Nolan scanned the area, his eyes searching for any signs of movement. He knew that they needed to stay vigilant and keep the town safe from the creature. Datak stood just a few feet away peering into the darkness.

"What is it?" Nolan asked. "Is there something out there?"

Datak stroked his chin thoughtfully. "I can't be certain, but I believe I saw something moving just beyond those trees."

"We should take a closer look," Nolan suggested, pulling out his blaster.

As Nolan, Datak, and a group of deputized citizens reached the cluster of trees, they scoured the surroundings but came up empty-handed. However, one of the deputies called everyone over to the largest tree where something had been discovered.

Underneath the tree lay a small baby, just born and bundled in rags stained with blood.

The group collectively held their breath in shock and wonder. What could a baby possibly be doing outside all alone under a tree?

Nolan bent down and scooped up the wailing baby, cradling it against his chest in a protective embrace.

He had always possessed strong paternal instincts, which is why he had welcomed the young, abandoned Irathient girl into his care when she had no one else.

As they examined the baby, they discovered that it was a human child, just like any other. Nolan couldn't help but think that maybe the escaped creature had stolen the child, but then realized that it couldn't take care of a baby and left it for them to find.

With questions swirling in their heads, they retreated back to Defiance, discussing their course of action. They knew they had to keep the town safe, but they also had a responsibility to protect this innocent child. Nolan's initial instinct was to bring the newborn to Doc Yewll for a check-up and nourishment. The infant shrieked as if it hadn't eaten in days.

Meanwhile, after scouring the McCawley ranch for any signs of the elusive creature, Rafe, Tommy, and Irisa were determined to eliminate this threat once and for all. As the sun finally crested over the horizon, they found no new dangers looming, so they made the decision to regroup with Nolan, Datak, and rest of their people in Defiance.

Upon arriving in Defiance, the McCawley group listened as Nolan recounted the events of the night, including their discovery of a newborn baby under a tree. This news left everyone in shock and disbelief.

Doc Yewll shook her head, her eyes filled with concern as she spoke with Nolan, Datak, and Amanda. "We need to find out what happened to the mother and the other creature. This is not just a simple experiment gone wrong; there's something very bad going on here."

Amanda nodded in agreement. "We can't ignore the fact that this child was left abandoned.

"After conducting thorough research, I have discovered that this child is not entirely human. There is unidentified DNA present," Doc Yewll declared with a grave tone.

Nolan's face drained of color. "Do you believe it belongs to the creature?" he inquired with a shaky voice.

The doctor gave a slow nod, her voice barely above a whisper. "Yes, I do."

Doc Yewll took charge of the baby's care, and under her watchful eye, the infant began to recover from its traumatic ordeal. Nolan and Datak continued to lead patrols around town, while Rafe, Tommy, and Irisa searched the nearby areas for any traces of the creature. However, their efforts were fruitless until they stumbled upon a rotting corpse of a woman hidden in a small cave.

The discovery left them with more questions than answers, as it was clear that the creature had taken one of their own. The tension in Defiance was palpable as they struggled to understand what kind of threat they were truly facing and how to protect their town and this vulnerable child.

As days went by, the infant continued to grow stronger under Doc Yewll's care. She named the child Willow, after the tree in which she was found under. The townspeople were a mix of fascination, apprehension, and curiosity.

Nolan cared deeply for the people of Defiance, but his primary concern was ensuring their safety. Even though he also cared for the baby, he needed confirmation that she wasn't a threat.

At eleven o'clock in the morning, Doc Yewll received the Voltan transmission, bringing her a sense of immense relief.

The transmission was from a Voltan scientist, who confirmed that the child's DNA was a result of a fusion between human and fused genetic material from the creature. According to the scientist, a team of researchers performed an experiment in which they combined DNA from a variety of different species to create a new race. The most positive development though, was that they successfully tracked down and eliminated the lone creature.

Doc Yewll shared the news with the rest of the town, and there was a collective sigh of relief. Defiance had survived the threat, and now they had a chance to understand and care for the child they had found.

Willow posed no danger to the residents of Defiance, as her fused DNA resulted in a child that was mostly human.
