1 YEAR AGO
Outside Metropolis High early in the morning as students were in the courtyard and Jessica Cruz was handing out fliers to disinterested students. "...Stagg Industries has been linked to most of Metropolis' pollution in the last 5 years... Please join me in protesting this careless..." Jessica was saying as passing her was a blonde haired girl in fancy clothes. "Are you interested in this cause..." Jessica asked as the girl took a flier and then shook her head.
"Sorry but... My daddy runs the company and he would kill me if I am caught with one of these..." said the girl Sapphire Stagg as Jessica noticed some students crumbling up her fliers into wads of paper to throw to the ground.
"HEY! You could at least recycle or even bother to put them in the bin instead of being a litterbug!" Jessica then yelled at the students before shaking her head. She then began picking up the wads of her fliers up form the ground when there was a crowd of students excitedly marching about and yelling.
She looked and see the red haired Guy Gardner wearing his football jacket while hoisted onto the shoulders of his fellow football team members holding up a ball while another football team member had a boom box playing We Are the Champions by Queen.
"Guess who last night only led the Metropolis Titans to trouncing the Smallville Crows in the finals... But broke the record for most touchdowns performed by one quarterback in the history of our school!" yelled out Guy and the students began cheering and clapping for him. "No please; hold your applause... I know I am amazing; no need to show it..." Guy said as if being humble.
Jessica shook her head not understanding the fuss about sports stars as she put the wads into the paper recycling bin. However looking to the road she spotted a student walking slowly while checking their phones while a car was coming by faster than it should be. "Look out!" she then yelled as she then ran and pushed the student back as the car stopped.
"What the hell loser! You almost totalled our dad's car! You would be dead if you dented it!" yelled one of the large teenage boys inside as he went out to confront the scared student as the other teenage boy coming out of the car was his brother. Brett & Burke Bryer; 2 students who were already held back twice.
"You should do to apologise since you were the ones who almost hit him!" Jessica shouted up at them as they stared her down.
"Go to your tree hugging bull Cruz; don't be a hero..." Burke said but Jessica stood firm but then came Guy who was let down by hs team and went in front of them.
"No need for threats of violence and I suggest that you let this go before this turns ugly. I have the entire football team on my side and so many witnesses who will vouch for me... WHo would be willing to speak up for you..." Guy then told them and the Bryers' were silent but then begrudgingly apologised and left.
The boy then got up and thanked both Guy and Jessica before leaving. "Thanks Guy; I guess you're not all bad..." Jessica said but then they both saw 2 glowing green lights coming after them at big speed. They then ran away to the inside of the school but then they lights caught up to them and went to their fingers as it turned out they were green rings.
"JESSICA CRUZ OF SECTOR 2814." said a booming voice from the ring on Jessica's finger as she tried to get it off.
"GUY GARDNER of SECTOR 2814." said the same voice from Guy's ring as he stared at it with a wowed expression.
"YOU HAVE THE ABILITY TO OVERCOME GREAT FEAR..." said the rings at once to them as they then began glowing even brighter. They then said at once "WELCOME TO THE GREEN LANTERN CORPS!"
PRESENT DAY
The planet Oa deep in space; home of the race of immortal blue skinned robed aliens known as the Guardians of the Universe and headquarters to their Green Lantern Corp.
Jessica as Limelight was sparring with Guy who was in his own Green Lantern suit of a black suit, white gloves, green boots and dark green sleeveless jacket with the Green Lantern logo on it. They had staff constructs to spar with.
They were both fighting fiercely and Limelight managed to send Guy down to the ground; she then offered him a hand as he extended his but a construct of a fist punched her in the face. "That was a low move Guy!" Limelight snapped getting up and nursing her cheek.
"Them's the breaks Jess..." Guy retorted and the floating down to oversee them was a black human man with bald head, goatee, black suit, green boots, white gloves and a dark green area on his upper body with the Green Lantern logo on it. Limelight saluted as it was one of the senior Green Lanterns of Earth: John Stewart.
"No what I want to go for Guy and Jessica; you had an opening to finish the fight and you didn't go for it." Stewart then told them and Limelight then sighed.
"With all due respect Mr Stewart sir... I don't believe in violence and I would prefer not to indulge with it; I want to look for other means to ending fights." Limelight then said as Guy rolled his eyes. Stewart then sighed.
"Commendable Jessica but my time in the marines and the Corps has taught me that sometimes you have to fight; if Hal was here on Oa right now then he could tell you about how he had to fight to deal with the Red Lanterns, the Anti-Monitor and we dealt with the Manhunters together." Stewart then said as Limelight listened in. "One of your little club of super friends... The new Peacemaker; I am sure that he would be able to tell you that sometimes you have to fight for peace. Even if he is taking on the identity of someone who was a clown of a 'hero'..." Stewart said as Limelight was silent
"Thank you Mr Stewart..." Limelight said as she then left using her flight.
"So sorry that my so called partner doesn't know that you won't be able to stop an alien invasion without punching their teeth in..." Guy said as Stewart then facepalmed upon being stuck with Guy.
"...That is only the start of the continuity problems that the episode caused that would plague the show to come in later seasons! Now onto this particular one where they totally betrayed Tork's character and the relationship between..." spoke an obtuse teenager with glasses and long orange hair as he was spouting what he was saying in a smug superior 'I know exactly what I am talking about' tone of voice to Lincoln in the Action Comics store as he was trying to focus on stocking the shelves. The other staff members as well as customers looked at Lincoln in pity for having to listen to him prattle on.
"Kyle... Don't you have anything better to do with your time... I mean literally anything..." Lincoln asked in a pleading voice but then paused as he then thought about something. "Lori misusing literally... Is this how it started? Her dealing with an annoying person?" Lincoln thought to himself as Kyle scoffed.
"I need to get all this off my chest about the bad seasons, episodes and other problems that could very well lead Space Trek 3016 to it's doom and all the internet forums have permanently banned me..." Kyle then retorted with his arms folded and there was a green light outside the store window as Jessica then came through the door.
"Lincoln... Are you free to talk or are you busy working?" Jessica asked as Lincoln looked to Jessica as if she had said that Christmas had come early and he jumped up.
"Don't worry Jess; feel free to get me to talk with you!" Lincoln said as he then faced Kyle. "We should continue this talk a week from... Well when it's convenient..." Lincoln said as he took Jessica's hand and took her to the staff area.
"Woah... Never seen you so excited Lincoln... I thought you liked working here..." Jessica said startled as Lincoln nodded.
"I love working here; it's just that Kyle is the worst part of the job... The most annoying customer to have ever stepped foot in this place... Finding stuff on sale here that he personally hates and tries to argue for us not to stock it... Trying to use continuity problems in comics or mistakes by the artists to say that the comics are defective to get a refund and just prattling on and on while nitpicking and being all insufferable..." Lincoln then groaned as Jessica looked amused. "So what did you want to talk about?" Lincoln asked as Jessica sighed.
"Just... I was sparring on Oa and John Stewart who helps train me and... The other Green Lantern at the school... I didn't take a chance to end the fight and I was told about how we sometimes need to fight for peace and you were brought up and I just want to ask... How do you justify it in your head?" Jessica asked as Lincoln frowned and thought about it.
"Well at first... I was just focusing on trying to deal with Chris's training style... I mean he had me dodge from this super dodgeball machine while I was blindfolded... My old friends from Royal Woods and I were awful at normal dodgeball in school so having to go through that..." Lincoln then explained and then took a deep breath. "But the topic... Just think about how how there are evil people that won't be stopped unless by force... The foes we faced that only stopped putting people at risk when we forced them too." Lincoln then said softly as Jessica was silent.
"...You're right but still... I wish that I had the chance to show that you don't have to end fights with violence..." Jessica said as Lincoln then put his hand on her shoulder encouragingly.
"I am sure that you will get your chance Jess..." Lincoln said as they then heard screaming and there was people outside running about.
They then ran outside and saw some people filming with phones looking up and they did so to see spaceships in the sky. "Are we being invaded?" Lincoln asked eyes widening as during his time as a superhero; he had yet to deal with a full blown alien invasion before.
"Those are ships of Tamaran... Warrior cultured aliens..." Jessica explained and Lincoln then shared a look with her. "I know that Kara is still at after school detention and Karen is studying... Do you know where the others are?" Jessica asked as Lincoln thought it over.
"I think Babs went to that burrito place near her house to see about getting a job, Diana is at the museum looking at a Greek exhibit and Zee is helping out with one of her dad's shows... Only the two of us this time..." Lincoln said as they shared a look. They then went to the alleyway and Lincoln hid behind a dumpster to change.
Jessica then got out a bright green lantern lantern that she put her finger towards; "In brighest day... In blackest night... No evil shall escape my sight... Let those who worship evil's might... Beware my power... Green Lantern's Light!" Jessica recited causing her ring to be charged up and she turned into Limelight as Peacemaker jumped out to be next to her.
Peacemaker scaled up a nearby tall building with his grappling hook as Limelight flew up and floating down to the air lookng stern was what looked like a teenage girl with dark purple hair, silver armor and a dark purple tank top and skirt over it with purple boots. She then spoke in what sounded like gibberish barely words to Peacemaker who looked confused.
Limelight eyed him and then realised what was going on and said apologetically "Sorry Lin... Peacemaker I mean; I forgot... My ring comes with a universal translator... She said that she is Princess Blackfire; heir to the throne of Tamaran and she is threatening invasion unless the other Green Lantern comes here..." Limelight then coughed and then faced Blackfire and said "my apologies for my friend and teammate here your highness... He can't speak your language..."
Blackfire then floated to Peacemaker and took him by the throat before he could dodge; Limelight went to help him but Blackfire then put his mask up to his nose and then... Kissed him.
She then let him go and Peacemaker was left dumbstruck as Limelight stared; "Absorbed your world's language through the lip contact... " Blackfire stared simply as Peacemaker recovered and put his mask back down.
"If I had a nickel for every time I ended up kissed by a member of royalty... I would have two nickels but it's still weird that it happened twice..." Peacemaker muttered but faced Blackfire. "Okay... Now that we put that behind us... What do you want with the other Green Lantern? I am sure that Limelight here could help you with whatever you want..." Peacemaker said as Blackfire then glared fiercely.
"This is personal... After what Guy Gardner had done... I have tracked him down to this planet and my sister's honour will go avenged as I bathe the ground with his blood... If you don't surrender him to us then we shall take him by force..." Blackfire threatened as Peacemaker took that in.
"Guy Gardner is your partner... Man... How do you deal with that..." Peacemaker muttered in shock as Limelight just shrugged with a face that basically said that she doesn't know. "Anyway Princess... I am sure that we can come to an understanding... No need for it to come to a fight... Just because you kissed me; doesn't mean that I won't fight... Make this easy for yourself..." Peacemaker said as Blackfire then laughed as if he had said something funny.
"Make this easy for myself you say..." Blackfire muttered with a smirk as she then had her hands glowing and started sending out beams from them and Peacemaker got his shield out to block it and then Blackfire then flew right at him and punched the shield and sent him back. Peacemaker then began dodging as she then went to punch and Limelight then went to him and put a dome around them protectively.
"Sending out a message to Guy..." Limelight then said after speaking to her ring and then Blackfire then started punching hard at the dome and then sending blasts at it. Peacemaker felt tense as Limelight did her best to keep it up but then Guy floated down looking smug.
"So you can't do anything without me partner... So what's the stitch... Blackfire?" Guy asked and his smug demeanour fell as he recognised Blackfire and gulped looking afraid as Blackfire stopped her assault and then looked to Guy with rage in her eyes.
"You do remember me and you must remember what you did to my sister..." snapped Blackfire as she then flew at him and he looked terrified as he started flying away but Limelight with a construct lasso then caught his foot and pulled him closer.
"So Guy Gardner... Why is Blackfire angry at you and why do I have the feeling that I will be on her side when we hear the story?" Peacemaker asked as Limelight eyed Guy suspiciously along with Peacemaker.
"Well... A month after I got this ring... I was checking out Tamaran and Blackfire's sister Starfire was so fine and hot... I put the moves and she was taken with me... She wanted more than just a fling and... I left her a note..." Guy explained hesitatingly and the two Super Friends stared at him judgementally. "So... You know who I am Peacemaker?" Guy asked as somehow Blackfire got even angrier.
"Leaving things out Mr Gardner... Like how you left the note on her bedside table in the middle of the night... She woke up to find you missing and the note there... She was in tears and our father wants blood and I will give it to him..." Blackfire said as Limelight and Peacemaker were now staring with killer intent to Guy.
"So you pulled that stunt and now the Earth could be invaded thanks to you... We should just give you over to them to do with as they please..." Peacemaker snapped as Limelight though glaring at Guy; kept her friend at bay.
"Let me fix your mess..." Limelight told Guy as she then flew up to Blackfire. "Your highness... You and your family have fell to the machinations and arrogant thoughtless antics of one Guy Gardner... I hope that we can resolve this without more fighting... This could be a start but Guy would like to apologise..." Limelight then said as Guy's eyes widened.
"Do you want me to bash your head in with this shield and try ventriloquism to make you apologise?" Peacemaker warned him and Guy sighed as he floated up to stare at Blackfire.
"Okay look... Blackfire... I am sorry to you and your entire family... I have no excuse and... Could you forgive me... I will apologise to Starfire if I have to..." Guy said as Blackfire stared at him and went to speak through a communication device. The 3 humans waited and then Blackfire faced them. "The apology is noted and... Father is willing to take this as long as I satisfy our honour with one more act but you are never to return to Tamaran... My sister has gotten over you and just doesn't want to see you anymore..." Blackfire then said as Limelight and Peacemaker then jumped for joy.
"What? She's over me... I mean thank you... What is the one act..." Guy said incredulously but put it off and before he could continue Blackfire kneed him hard in a sensitive area and Peacemaker and Limelight cringed. "Honour is satisfied." Blackfire said smirking going to a ship and then the entire fleet then disappeared and the two Super Friends smiled but Guy was gulping in pain.
The 2 and their 5 friends as civilians were at their table in the cafeteria the next day as Lincoln and Jessica told them the details of the possible alien invasion (leaving out how exactly Blackfire learned the English language) that just disappeared unexpectedly as the news described it; before any of the famous heroes could intervene.
"...If I knew that because of detention I would miss Guy being kneed there by an alien princess then I would have left Coach Crock's car alone..." laughed Kara as they found this story amusing.
"I managed to end the invasion without a shot being fired and so negotiations won out!" Jessica said satisfied as Lincoln patted her on the back.
"Though there was still some violence in the outcome..." Lincoln pointed out as Jessica laughed.
"I am fine with that honestly considering the circumstances..." Jessica admitted as Zee looked at her and Lincoln interacting and found a bit of jealousness creeping up behind her but she brushed it off.
Here is the adaptation of the hate triangle episode but reworked; as you can see Guy here in this story manages to be even more of a thoughtless self centred idiot jerk than Hal was in this episode. Plus unlike the DC Super Hero Girls show; we get to see them getting their rings.
Blackfire is here to sort of play the role that Star Sapphire played in the episode. Unlike most depictions; she in this universe is a loving sister but still ends up as an antagonist to Earth ironically enough out of love for her sister.
Kyle comes from the divisive Teen Titans Go show from the self titled episode... Where the Titans travelled through time and met him who runs a video store and realises that it's the foe Control Freak (from the original superior and more liked Teen Titans show) before he became a villain. So is this setting him up to become Control Freak later in this story? Wait and see...
