DANGANRONPA: OFF THE RAILS

Chapter 2 – White is for Wishing

Part 2

After the strange introduction with Tenshizo and Akumahebi, everyone slowly drifted off to their own devices. However, Wally would find himself and Emiko being stopped by Kuniyoshi. "Mind following me?"

Turning to each other, they nodded and followed as the Poker Player lead them over to the casino. Waiting there was none other than Yokona as she gave a tired glare at the poker player. "Why did you call us out here?" Kuniyoshi simply grinned and pulled out a pack of cards.

Emiko gave a tired expression. "As much as it pains me to not join… I need to gain some proper sleep. Have a good night you three."

And with that, the ballet dancer was off. Wally walked her leave as he then turned back to the now bickering duo. "…Alright. I can play a few games."

Kuniyoshi would grin as he walked over to the exchange counter. "Perfect! Now we just need some chips for the game."

The three walked over to the counter and stopped as they saw… Conductorkuma? …With a fake mustache & glasses on. "…Why hello strange losers I have never seen before."

Wally blinked and raised a brow. "Ummm… Conductorkuma? What are you doing?"

The bear was silent for a moment… before sighing and taking off the glasses and mustache. "I'm running the stalls and that while my two juniors run the show for a bit. What? Missed of seeing little ol' me?" Conductorkuma did a little pose before gaining a shocked look. "I-Is this one of those anime confessions!? I-I'm sorry Wilson-kun… but my heart belongs to beautiful Despair-chan!" Sparkles seemed to shine around the bear as the three looked at him with deadpan expressions before turning and walking away.

"…Kuniyoshi? We'll be fine without the chips, right?"

"Yeah. No chips are worth dealing with that freak."

Conductorkuma watched as they left with anime tears. "…M-My poor maiden kokoro…"

After ignoring the bear, the three sat down around the poker table and dealt the first hand. After a few rounds, Yokona groaned and glared at the Poker Player. "It makes zero sense! How is it that you're able to keep winning!? I'm literally a master at strategy!"

Kuniyoshi chuckled and leaned back in his chair. "Quite simple really. I'm just better than you." This caused Yokona to glare and pound the table as he laughed. "Man. You're really fucking easy to rile up."

The poker player sighed and rested in his chair with his arms behind his head. "To tell you the truth, it's a mixture of luck and skill."

Wally, who was listening, blinked for a moment before rubbing his chin. "That makes some sense. Whenever the round started, you became very serious and focused… and once the round would end, you'd go back to messing with Yokona."

This caused Kuniyoshi to lift his aviators that he was wearing for a moment. "Exactly. In poker, you have to stay stone-faced and focused in order to pull the win. The fact that shorty here is easy to rile up makes it easier to read her."

This caused the strategist's eyes to pop wide open before she glared and pointed at the poker player. "So THAT'S how! You used my anger against me!" A serious and determined look appeared on her face. "Just you wait… you'll rue the day you challenged the Ultimate Strategist. I've vowed to never be without a strategy. Never. …and now? I shall craft one so powerful that even an Ultimate at the challenge will fall to it!"

Kuniyoshi simply gained a grin and a determined look of his own. "…Very well. I'll accept that challenge. Ain't no one who can kick my ass in poker." He then pulled out an 11-ball keychain with a serious look. "With my brother and luck on my side… ain't no way in hell that I'm gonna go all-in and lose. I'm never gonna lose all my hard work. Never."

As the two got into a heated glare, with flames of determination appearing behind the two, Wally just sat there with a sweatdrop and an unsure expression. "… … You guys do know I'm here too right… … … guys? …"

It turns out that the growing rivalry did, in fact, make them forget that Wally was there. So after watching two intense rounds, Wally decided to head out. He did, however, have a smile as he glanced back at the two. Despite everything, they were still keeping their heads up… which was good.

Exiting the casino, he slowly trekked through the carnival cart before reaching the door… only to find the door locked. "…Good to know how that works."

Turning his head, Wally frowned as he saw Katashi standing there. "What did you do?"

The therapist simply ignored the sidekick and walked back into the carnival. A few moments later, Wally would hear a click noise. Walking back over, Katashi would approach the door and open it with ease. "…I found the lock mechanism for this door. Seems to be not a hard lock."

Wally would blink at that and turn to the therapist with an untrusting stare. "And what exactly is this mechanism?"

The therapist would simply turn his head for a moment, pull out a cigarette, and light it. Taking in a puff and releasing the smoke, he smirked. "…Got to say… I know what I'll be stocking up on for now. Can't believe it took having to get a casino for me to get more cigarettes. Don't know how long till someone dies, and we lose these carts." Wally's stare turned into a glare at that as Katashi scoffed. "Oh grow up. I'm just stating facts."

"Facts!? You're justifying murder!"

The therapist rolled his eyes at the outburst and shook his head. "No. I'm solidifying an opinion based on past experience. A murder already happened. A motive is coming soon. So sooner or later, some sap is gonna snap and murder again."

The sidekick shook his head at that. "No! I refuse to allow that to happen again! I may have failed to stop Satoru… but I'll stop any more!"

Katashi scoffed at that. "Yeah right. You can't be everywhere kid… … and stop looking at me like I'm going to be the next murderer."

Wally flinched at that as the therapist turned to face him. "You're wondering how I could tell… I have my talent for a reason. You're staring at me as if I was a villain in your 'superhero story'. Just like you did with Satoru." As Wally took a step back, Katashi would take another puff and blow the smoke in Wally's face. "The world isn't black and white kid. Satoru killed because he wanted to escape. Sure, murder isn't justified but guess what. I bet everyone, including you and I, though about it. The motive sucked… we all want out of here. Satoru had his own goals just like the rest of us and unlike us… decided to cross that line. But does that make him a villain? No. But you, hero boy? You don't see that. You see him as a villain… just like you're seeing me as a villain because I don't play nice. And let me warn you now. That biased view is going to get you killed."

Wally would stare at the therapist for a moment as Katashi would turn and walk away. The sidekick was left standing there as he grit his teeth and clenched his fist… before shaking his head and moving forward. He was exhausted… he just needed to get some sleep and to not let this rude therapist get him down.

As the sidekick woke up from the previous day, knowledge of an approaching motive in the distance, he decided to explore once more. However, he had a mission in mind, so Wally found himself looking around the carnival for the switch to the door. "Seriously… doesn't that jerk know it was our lack of knowledge that allowed Satoru to get away with his murder?"

However, he then felt a hand land on his shoulder as he turned around to see… Hastur. "I must agree… that man truly is a mystery." The cosmicism writer moved forward and stood beside the sidekick. "But then again, perhaps that is what makes him human. For all of us are confusing puzzles waiting to be solved." He then turned towards one of the stalls and smile as he walked over to it.

Wally, unsure of what was happening, followed Hastur and found himself standing in front of a stall with a puzzle while a statue of a snake on the top of the stall. Hastur smiled at the stall as he looked over it. "Hmm… Dots… only numbers up to three… Ah! It's that kind of puzzle then~"

Wally looked at him confused as he looked down at the puzzle before blinking. "Oh. I think I heard of it? Slitherlink?"

Hastur nodded with a grin. "Correct my heroic friend. Slitherlink is a Japanese logic puzzle in a similar style to Sudoku or Kakuro. It's a loop-forming puzzle which, unlike other logic puzzles, is solved by drawing lines around the clues according to the rules until a closed loop is formed." Hastur began to draw a line as he approached a two. "In this case, this square must have two lines drawn through it. No more… no less."

Wally nodded as he turned to the writer. "You seem to like puzzles."

Hastur simply chuckled at that and nodded. "Indeed. Puzzles are similar to mysteries… they're full of curiosity and splendor… challenging one's thoughts to face the unknown. While not as unknown as cosmicism, I find a sense of connection with these." He then turned to the sidekick as he drew the last line. The stall played a little fanfare song as the puzzle opened up to reveal… a knife. A knife stylized in the fashion of a snake fang.

The sidekick looked at the knife with worry as Hastur picked it up. A curious smile on his face. "…Very interesting. Quite fitting with snake bearer of the ecliptic." A confused expression appeared on Wally's face as the cosmicism writer chuckled and shook his head. "…Do not worry young hero. The answer for what I mean can easily be discovered… but I will not answer them for you." With that, he held the knife to the sidekick as Wally hesitantly took it. After he took the knife, the cosmicism writer would move to leave the room. However, he was stopped as a slight grumbling sound could be heard from the sidekick's stomach.

Hastur laughed at that and shook his head. "I suggest you get yourself some nourishment before you seek the knowledge of the ecliptic. And a small hint for you… I speak of the unknown one of the thirteen… the one forgotten so often that many believe it is simply twelve. But~! That is all I will say for now. Till we meet again~" And with that, the cosmicism writer would leave. Wally found himself confused and on his own as he felt his stomach growled once more. Shaking his head, he securely pocketed the knife in his hoodie as he headed off.

After his time in the carnival with the cosmicism writer, Wally would find himself entering the kitchen as Chizure would enter in as well. "Ah- Hello Wally." The girl looked a little tired as she smiled to the sidekick.

In return, the sidekick gave a worried look to the forger. "Is… everything alright?"

The girl would be silent for a moment… before sighing. "Yes and no."

"…Kanade?"

This would cause the forger to nod. "She's doing better and talking to me again… but she's still hesitant to leaving her room. I think she feels guilty in what happened and it's causing her to withdraw."

Wally would frown at that before stopping for a moment. "…Well how about I try and join you? See if I can help out." The forger looked at the sidekick with a look of uncertainty but relented after a bit. Soon enough, the two found themselves outside the pianist's room with a couple plates of food.

Knocking on the door, Chizure spoke. "Kanade? It's me. …I'm here with Wally. Is it alright for us to come in?" There was silence on the other end when the door slowly creaked open. Chizure smiled at this as she and the sidekick walked into the room.

Looking at the pianist, Wally could see that her hair was frazzled, her eyes were a little red, and she seemed extremely tired. The sidekick put on a smile. "Hey Kanade. You hungry?"

The girl nodded as the trio set down their plates and began to eat. It was after a bit that Kanade spoke. "…we never got around to it."

Wally and Chizure looked at her confused as Kanade continued. "…I asked Shunso if he was interested in learning piano. He said he would be up to it. …I… was going to find time for it… when… HE… asked me to help with his idea." Hearing the pain at the word 'he', Wally knew she was talking about Satoru. "I just…" Kanade hesitated as she sighed. "It feels like I was closer and spent more time with someone who betrayed me over a friend who, while not the most social, was honest and good-hearted…"

Wally and Chizure turned to one another as they started to understand where the guilt was stemming from. The sidekick thought for a moment about what to say when he gained an idea. "…Would you be able to teach me?"

The pianist stopped and blinked as she and Chizure turned to the smiling sidekick. "…I know I'm not Shunso. But I would be willing to learn… if that's alright with you?"

Realizing what he was doing, Chizure smiled as well. "And me as well! I'm always interested in learning something new."

Looking between the two, Kanade looked down at her hands for a moment… before looking up at the two of them with slight tears in her eyes… and the first smile since they entered. "Of course!"

Looking at one another, Wally and Chizure smiled. The process was slow… but Kanade was slowly returning to her cheerful self.

Saying his goodbyes to the forger and pianist, the sidekick stepped out into the hall and stretched for a moment, wondering where to go next. However, that train of thought was interrupted as a familiar jingle played.

-DING DONG, DING DONG!-

The speakers turned on and Tenshizo could be heard. "Hello riders! Are you doing well?"

"…I sure hope not. I really wish you had all keeled over and died."

A light smack sound and a couple of mumbles could be heard before Tenshizo speaks once more. "Sorry about that! Aku is being a bit of a grumpypants. …Anyways! We're here to tell you about the motive!"

"For this motive to start, we need all of you bastards to go into your individual dorms. …And no. This is not optional. Hurry the fuck up."

Deciding to not tempt fate, Wally walked back to his dorm door as he noticed the others entering the cart and their rooms. Entering his own room, Wally would hear a click noise behind him as he saw his door lock. "Do not panic! The door locking is for privacy purposes!"

"Yeah… now onto this motive shit. Everyone of you bastards look at your bed. You'll find an envelope." Turning his head, Wally would look at his bed and see that they were right. On top of his bed was a pitch-black envelope with what appeared to be a wax seal of a symbol of the number two… only it was made to look like a snake. He was confused at the envelope when the elephant and snake started to speak again.

"This motive is what we call the 'Prize Vs. Punish' motive. …I wanted it to be all prizes, but Aku didn't want that."

"No shit. These bastards don't deserve it. …And I still think that's a stupid fucking motive name-"

"ANYWAYS! …The motive is split. Those who have the white envelopes with the wax seal of-"

A loud smack could be heard as Akumahebi growled. "They don't need to know about that. Let me handle this fatass… White envelopes are the prizes. Black envelopes are the punishments. You all have a week before the motive finishes. If a bastard with a white envelope kills and gets away with it, then they get the prize listed. If a bastard with a black envelope kills and gets away with it, then the punishment is prevented. Once again, you bastards have a week." And with that, Akumahebi stopped talking as one could hear Tenshizo mutter about how he was shut down. "Oh for the love of- You can say the fucking rule dumbass."

"…Oh! Right!" Just then, a buzzing could be heard on Wally's Kuma-Watch as he pulled up the train rules.

Rule #12: No telling your part of the second motive you got nor what it is about to anyone else.

"To make sure this isn't simply ended early… you're not allowed to tell anyone what envelope you gained nor what the prize is! It could be anything!" Tenshizo stopped talking as silence occurred… before speaking again. "AH! I almost forgot! The "Cipher"!" This caused a pause in Wally as he looked at the speaker confused. "There is one of you who is currently the "Cipher". Unlike the motive, this role can be swapped back and forth if one learns how to. Whoever is the "Cipher" at the end of the week will get their prize or avoid their punishment without having to kill another rider! …But that's all for now! Ta-Tusk!"

"…What the actual fuck? That was so fucking stupid-" And just like that, Akumahebi was cut off as the speakers shut down.

…After a few moments, Wally slowly looked down at his envelope… realizing what it means. "…Let's get it over with." And with a heavy heart, Wally opened the envelope as he began to read the punishment within.

Wally Wilson… The Ultimate Sidekick.

A young dumbass brought into a world of heroics and villainy… which has led you to gain a twisted view on things.

You see the world in black and white. If someone is 'bad', then they're like that crazy bitch Dr. Mayhem. And if they're 'good', they're like the Falcon Commander.

So this is your punishment. By the end of the week, if you don't murder some fucker, then then we will release all information on the Falcon Commander to that crazy evil bitch Dr. Mayhem.

This includes all information on his previous and current Private Hatchling, eh DireBitch?

Falcon Loser's new sidekick, your own mother, and of course… Cody Crimsworth. Or rather what you know him as… the Falcon Commander, eh?

Clocks ticking Ultimate Sidebitch. Up to you to decide.

-Akumahebi

Wally stood there silently for a moment before he placed the knife he gained onto his dresser. Then, moving over to his bed, the sidekick would lay down on his back before covering his face with his hands. Cody Crimsworth… or rather… Falcon Commander. They knew who Commander's secret identity. And that means that all information is connected to him. "…Fuck." Wally covered his eyes as he remembered back to why he left and became DireClaw. He felt he was on the outside… treated like a kid… even when his own mother was a hostage.

He wanted to be a hero… to deal with the responsibilities of the role and fight for justice. But right now? In this very moment? …He regrets ever wishing for that. For the responsibility is now larger than ever before. With great power comes great responsibility… but… not everyone is ready for that responsibility. Though it also leads to the question… how will the 'cipher' go? What will come of this motive? For now, his mind was plagued with these thoughts as he drifted off to sleep.

14/16 REMAINING

Hello everyone! Void here!

Here we are! The motive drop!

It's been a while but I'm back and getting into a better groove of things! The writer's itch has infected me! But yeah, I've been working on this part as well as for a second project that is in the works.

As for what the second project is… well… If you check out my page, then I think you've seen it already.

DANGANRONPA: REBELS OF PARADISE!

A 'technically' sequel to this story while not being connected. Basically, it's in the same universe/timeline/world/whatever… but the two events are separate stories. So you don't need to read this story to understand that one.

It's another SYOC and it's currently open. It's escape room themed and everything! So if you wanna check it out, the story is on my page. Plus… I'm gonna be working on a second small 'introduction' soon.

Of course, I'll still be working on this story as well. I've been slowly getting into the groove of things.

And, with this part here, comment your thoughts! I'm always excited to hear from you all.

But… that's all for now! Until next time! See you all later!
