Hey everybody, hope everyone is having a good summer so far.
After rewritting my other story, Living Memory, I went back to the next chapter for this one. It's been slow going admittingly, life getting in the way as usual, so I figured another preview was in order once I thought one part of it was good to go.
Here it is.
Chapter 4 Preview 1
In the Mountain Zone, Midoriya panics and runs from a large muscular Villain with a full facial metal helmet to dodge a downward punch thrown onto him. He got closer to the two female students on his side. All three held a weapon produced from Yaoyorozu's Quirk to better fend of their attackers, with her using a metal staff while the others had bladed weapons. For better use of Quirk, she kept her jacket unzipped and rolled up at the sleeves for more skin exposure.
"No offense Green, but maybe just stay behind us if you can't do much in a fight." Jiro tells him bluntly.
"But I..." Izuku tries talk back on her comment but gets cut of by the same Villain attempting another attack, forcing him to dodge again. Jiro extends one of her earphone jacks to plug it into one of her boots with build in stereos as support gears, then fires a sonic blast at the Villain to push him back, as well any other Villain getting caught in the blast.
Izuku stared at the use of the Sound based Quirk in awe, that he doesn't immediately notice another Villain running at him with a blade in both hands. By the time he does, Yaoyorozu pulls out a vile she created with her Quirk from her exposed arm and throws it down on the path of the incoming Villains, releasing a spill of the substance it contained that was apparently slippery enough to make him lose his footing and and stumble uncontrollably. She takes advantage of it by twirling her body to deliver a powerful swing to the head that left him unconscious.
"It's for your own safety Midoriya. We can't act recklessly at a time like this!" Yaoyorozu adds her argument in the heat of the battle.
Given the relationship between the two, hearing it from her had a much deeper impact. It didn't escape his mind the relevance of what they both meant with their words. This was a life and death situation. They have to be realistic to make it through it, so It can't be ignored that he doesn't have as to contribute as they do. No combat experience, and of course, no Quirk.
He doesn't even have any equipment to help him out, the one thing he was learning to rely on when he would face Villains. ICARIS was still blocked of, and Yaoyorozu was occupied with her battle to create anything complex for him.
A lifetime of paying the price for being powerless, this was a new height for him. It's why that outside of their lives on the line, the bigger concern for him is how Yaoyorozu might see him after this, his first chance at a friend in over a decade. Earlier today she found out about his Quirkless status, and by some miracle still saw him in the same light as before, but seeing this side of him for herself could be enough of a reason to change her mind.
'I don't want to get in their way, but I can't stand by doing nothing.'
Whatever his dismay at the moment, it didn't suppress the urge to still try and do something, however small that may be.
'They both have powerful Quirks. Maybe if I think of something, we could we get out of this situation, a non lethal way to take out the Villains all at once.'
He observes the situation more to assess on a solution. Kyoka was unleashing blasts of sound from both of her support gears at a row of Villains, while Yaoyorozu displayed more of her combat skills with her staff, as well as throwing in various items she utilizes after creating, such as a net to capture a Villain in the air.
'Jiro's sonic blasts are our best offense, but it looks like her support gear can only cover up to two directions. Yaoyorozu I'm more familiar with and will probably be obvious solution. What would the best thing to make though?'
That's when his open wider in realization. The result of his thinking brought up a memory. In the time between their first and second meeting, when they had plenty of conversations over the phone, one subject was on a particular way to use the Creation Quirk, and it might just be the answer here.
"Yaoyorozu, remember when we talked about Pro Heroes whose Quirks you could imitate, like Midnight?" Izuku brings it up to her. It takes no time for Yaoyorozu to remember the same thing he did, and catch in his meaning right away.
"I do."
Her Quirk activates, the light it emulates on her skin covers the lower part of her head, and from it a new creation emerges; a gas mask. Two spots of light emulate from her sides and she pulls out two duplicates of the same item.
"Put these on!" She tosses them to Jiro and Midoriya. Both drop their weapons and immediately put their masks on.
Yaoyarozu removes her jacket and leaves it on the ground, then a thick gas was coming from all around her upper body, enveloping the three students and concealing their presence entirely. The Villains were naturally cautious to this action.
"What's that, a smokescreen?"
"She gave them gas masks idiot. It's meant to do something if we get caught in it."
"So we keep our distance. Not like it's spreading all that fast anyway."
It was true that while the gas was spreading, it was mostly concentrated to a limited area, and the speed of its expansion wasn't enough to impact the enemy. Everyone outside the gas made sure to avoid it. Their focus on that however left them vulnerable to a surprise attack from within the obscuring element, in the form of another sonic blast. It didn't feel as strong as before, but the Villains caught in it still braced themselves, and all of a sudden, they found that they were now surrounded by the gas.
More sonic blasts were fired in multiple directions, each one causing the gas to follow and cover more area in an instant until the the level everyone stood on was enveloped entirely. Within a few second, every Villain was coughing from its effect and eventually laid down unconscious.
Short and simple, like how it was with Kaminari being there originally.
So as you can tell, this next Chapter is basically gonna be whole USJ arc in one. Besides the over used troop of rearranging some character locations with a still Quirkless Midoriya, it's probably not gonna be all that different from the Cannon. Like I mentioned before, I'm trying to get past the Sports Festival, where's it's after that point that the story really begins to diverge.
That being said, the end of this next Chapter will end with a key plot to the story, though I have to warn everybody that it's likely to be seen as graphic for most.
Hope to finish soon.
