In a dark room lit by purple neon lights, a 15 year old with a slender figure sat down in a chair with a hollow look in his eyes. The boy had curly black hair as dark as the night, pale skin and dark brown eyes reminiscent of dark chocolate. His face could be defined as cute. He wore glasses, a light grey hoodie over a black shirt and black pants. The most striking feature the boy has was his right arm. It was...not there, leaving only a short stump under his long sleeve. His eyes were devoid of even a hint of joy.

Suddenly, the room's door slammed open with a mighty sound to reveal a woman seemingly in her forties with brown hair and eyes and pale skin. "Kip Akai!" The woman called for the boy. "Why are you sitting in this dark room all by yourself." The boy, Kip, remained silent causing the woman to wince. "I know this is a difficult time for you. But brooding all day won't help." She spoke softly, yet the boy remained silent. The woman sighed. "C'mon, let's get you some sunlight." She said pulling her son off his chair.

The boy finally let out a noise upon having his arm touched. "Leave me alone." He hissed tiredly, pulling away his only arm like a grumpy cat. The woman went silent as she stared at her own son with pity in her eyes.

"Hey," she said softly. "I saw that shop you always visit stocked up with those figurines you like. Maybe you could fetch one while I get the food ready. I'll leave some money on the counter." She added she walked to the door. She gave her son one last look before leaving wordlessly. With his mother gone, the boy remained motionless. His eyes only staring into nothingness as his mind ran wild with thoughts.

He recalled the accident. The event that took away his arm, his PRIMARY arm no less. A simple camping trip leading to a highly infected wound that brought upon him an amputation. "Stupid. Stupid." He muttered as his mind showed him the decisions he could've made to avoid losing his arm, yet it only served to irritate Kip. He couldn't go back in time to refuse the trip. He couldn't fix anything. Suddenly, in his frustration, his mind wandered back to what his mother had said. His eyes darted to his collection of video game and anime character figurines decorating the shelves of his room. From Elden Ring to Pokemon, he had them all. A collection he was proud of.

The boy sighed heavily before slowly getting up from his throne of misery as if it was the slog of a lifetime. Kip walked to the door before attempting to open it with his missing arm. It took all of his willpower not to kick the door open out of frustration and anger in response. He quickly used his usable hand to open the door and headed downstairs. Seeing the money his mother mentioned on the counter, the boy took the money quickly left the house; careful not to be seen by his parents.

He walked towards his destination with heaviness in his step, nothing on his mind but his own misfortune before he suddenly felt a chill go down his spine. He looked around him warily, hoping it was mere superstition on his part only to witness the most incredible scene of his life. The sunny morning sky above had been split to reveal an ominous purple void. And that void continued to grow rapidly in front of his eyes to encompass all that exists. Kip's breathing quickened in panic as his eyes widened. He looked all around him for any help or explanation only to find that everyone else was going about their day as normal. Only HE was seeing this.

Then, in a single instant, the void the encompassed all he could see disappeared leaving behind only the sunny skies once again as if nothing had happened. No, it left one more thing in its wake. A sword dropped from the sky onto the pavement in front of him with clang, a katana. Two forces fought inside Kip's mind. One said that the katana would look cool in his room and he should totally pick it up, the other warned him of touching something that came out of a hole in time-space.

Seeing the boy's plight, the sword decided for him. It shot out from the pavement towards his left hand, perfectly getting caught in his palm. Kip screamed in panic as he shook his arm to get the katana away from him to no avail. The sword stuck to him like glue; no, it started diving inside his arm through his flesh. The boy quickly rushed towards his home, forsaking asking strangers for help as the blade sunk deeper into his arm. It wasn't painful as it was terrifying. The moment he made it back, the boy screamed. "MOM! MY ARM!"

Kip's mom immediately rushed to her son in a hurry only to find him completely fine. Not a single thing out of the ordinary. She looked at him once again with pity in her eyes before giving him a hug. Kip saw this and his eyes widened in a daze. He looked at his arm to find the sword wasn't there at all. "What's happening to me?" He whispered before pushing his mother away. "I- I need to get to my room." Without waiting for a response, the boy ran upstairs quickly and slammed the door shut behind him.

He rushed towards his computer and turned it on. After a few failed attempts at using his missing hand on the keyboard, the boy managed to look up causes of hallucinations before noticing that his usual search engine wasn't google. It was one he had never seen before. Shocked, he jumped out of his chair before his eyes fell onto his collection of figurines. All the characters were different. Familiar, yet different; as if someone traced the characters' outlines and drew the rest differently. This wasn't HIS collection. His breathing quickened in panic. He held his head as his mind tried to find a rational answer to this situation.

And the answer came in the form of a sword shooting into his hand from his veins. "YOU! You did this!" Exclaimed Kip with bloodshot eyes. "I know I'm not crazy. I'm not hallucinating. What did you do?" He asked, glaring at the katana before sighing. "Maybe I am going crazy. I'm talking to a f*king sword."

Suddenly, he heard an echo inside his mind. 'Not...crazy.' it said in a raspy voice, causing Kip to look around him in a panic. 'Sliced...worlds.' it spoke again. 'New...wielder. Gather...blood.' Kip gulped, his eyes falling onto the only one who could've said anything. The sword. The boy quickly opened the window and tried to throw the sword outside. Alas, the katana stuck to him like glue.

"I don't know what you're talking about!" Exclaimed Kip in a panic, continuing his futile attempts to throw away the blade. "I'm just a stupid idiot who lost an arm! I can't even play games anymore! How am I supposed to use a sword?!"

The sword paused. 'arm...anew.' it whispered into his mind, causing the boy to freeze.

"You can give me back my arm?" Asked the boy, a desperate glint in his eyes. The sword hummed in agreement. Its metal blade growing somewhat red in satisfaction.

'Powerful...blood' it continued calmly. 'Grants...power. Regrows...arm.' Kip went silent as he stared at the sword. After a moment, he quickly shut all his windows and locked his door before sitting on his bed with the katana in hand. The gears in his mind turned as he thought about the katana's proposal.

He had a chance to get his old life back, but he has to collect blood for it. And the sword specified STRONG blood. He watched enough anime and played enough games to know if one person had powers, others did. Not only would he have to fight people with ONE arm, he'd have to fight SUPERPOWERED people with ONE arm. Kip quickly rushed to his- alternate his computer and looked up any evidence of other supers. He didn't find evidence, he found something much worse. Supers of all kinds, real and confirmed. Real as can be. And amongst them stood the most powerful hero of earth, Omni-man.

Kip almost jumped back in shock upon seeing the familiar mustached figure. Kip couldn't believe it. He quickly scoured the web, finding information about the still alive guardians of the globe. This only meant one thing. The crazy sword stuck to him sent him to a world far scarier than he initially thought. It was the world of Invincible. The world where supervillains and superheroes drop in and out of existence like flies playing russian roulette. The mere thought that he was in such a world was enough to send him into a panic attack, heaving for breath.

Unfortunately for him, beasts smell fear. A giant black spider larger than his desk leaped out of the shadows of his room, causing him to scream in fear. When did a giant black spider with shadow powers enter his room unnoticed? Did he have the luxury to ask such a question? 'Strong...blood.' the sword in his hand whispered in his mind.

Kip's eyes bulged. "THAT?! You want me to take on THAT?!" He yelled in a mixture of horror and anger as he swung the blade in front of him to keep the beast back. "Hell NO!" The beast hissed at him angrily, as if upset his prey was moving. Suddenly, the shadows of his room wrapped around his body and his mouth like spiderwebs, muffling his screams and shackling his body. He became a cocoon ready to be feasted on by the beast. Tears fell out of the boy's eyes as he struggled to do anything with the beast drooling over him. Even his sword retracted inside his body once more. Just as the boy was about to become bug food, he heard a familiar voice through the door.

"Kip!" It was his mother and she was knocking heavily on the door. "I heard a scream; are you okay? I can't open the door!" The beast's eyes turned to the door as a gluttonous glint filled its eyes. Kip saw this and panicked. He tried to scream as tears filled his eyes, to warn his mother as the beast approached the door; but all that came out was muffled by the shadows gagging his mouth.

'Use...me.' the katana whispered into his mind. 'Gather...blood.' the boy agreed with all his willpower, prompting his sword to shoot out of his wrist, cutting through the shadows as it landed in his arms. The boy quickly capitalized on the weakened shadows and freed himself haphazardly before leaping towards the beast with a scream to gather all the courage he could muster.

The beast froze before it quickly tried to shake him off, but Kip refused. He raised his blade with his one arm and stabbed it into the spider's eyes before taking the blade out and stabbing in the same spot. He kept stabbing and stabbing the same spot. "DIE! DIE! DIE!" He yelled as purple blood and juices covered his body, pleading to whatever deity out there to just take the spider already. After a moment, the beast stopped moving but the boy didn't stop in fear of the monster getting up again. He stabbed and stabbed until he finally couldn't. Until he lost all the strength he had in his one sole arm. Until he fell to the ground panting.

Filled with exhaustion, the boy's vision started to go dark. He only managed to get a glance of all the blood in the room flowing towards his katana before he finally passed out.
