Author Note: I suppose I should explain a thing or two before things officially get going. I was retired for several years and was enjoying it but every now and then, I come on back for enjoyment. The last several stories that I had done are, frankly, dog shit so I wanted to have a final hurrah, create the best one that I can possibly make while I still have time to do it. And this idea has been bouncing around my head for a long time. Yes, it is technically a crossover sort of story, but because I pull from multiple different stories AND it will be set in Remnant, I felt leaving it as a RWBY fic was the best choice. Anyway, I thank you for your time reading this and hope that you enjoy.
All Percy wanted to do was enjoy a simple boat ride while staring out at the oceans. It was almost as if the Fates themselves followed Percy along just to make a piñata out of him even further than they already have. It all started, in Percy's mind at least, when he fell down a literal rabbit hole into bizarro world. Back when… "Can I help you, sir?"
"Ah!" Percy jumped, taking his eyes off the ocean. He caught his breath when it was just the captain of the ship, the Seafarer, that he was traveling on. "Sorry, what was that?"
"No worries. You must be Hunstman material to be this wound up. I was asking if there was anything I can do to make your travel more comfortable."
"No." Percy shook his head. "No, I'm fine." The captain nodded and wandered off. Percy let out a long breath. He could sense the older man meant well but was pushing himself far too much for something that would get him taken advantage of. He focused his gaze back on the water, trying to find some pleasure at being near real water again. It has been only a week since he found himself standing at the edge of the world, redirecting Akhyls's poison against her. For a goddess of misery, she really couldn't handle her own medicine. Next thing he knew, he was running through the Mansion of Night hoping to come out on the other side. He held on to Annabeth as tightly as he could, he really did, but he had run into something inside that palace that made him lose balance. Fell right into his own little rabbit hole and spat out through the bottom of the ocean. Annabeth… Percy's breath quickened, thinking about what had happened to her. Did she make it out okay? Was she still alive? Percy had dealt with some strange circumstances, heck he even considered it normal at one point, but falling through a hole into the mortal world again was one experience he hadn't been prepared for. Least of all being one that showed a world where the moon was shattered basically in half. The only thing that kept him going was the whole new set of monsters that came after him, that part was standard in Percy's short and miserable life. Celestial bronze seemed to have a bad effect on them, worse than any monster he'd ever…
His thoughts were interrupted by the ship lurching back and forth. He heard some of the mortals around him asking if they were being jolted on some rocks below them, but Percy knew better. He knew the presence of a sea monster when he felt one. The captain had come out again, shouting "Everyone remain calm! Our weapons are coming online now!"
Percy stared out onto the ocean. Waves were beginning to form off in the distance; something was coming for them. Something big. Percy unbuttoned his trench coat and threw it out. His time on the run from the Gorgon sisters had taught him to keep as little on himself as possible. If he was running for a Guinness world records on travelling light, carrying around a pen that could double as both Riptide, a sword that saved his life more times than he could count as well as an actual pen, a pair of jeans and a yellow shirt with a red highlights and an orange star emblazoned on his chest, then he stood a pretty good chance at winning. "What are you doing?" Percy looked back at the captain, who look at him like he was a madman.
"Keep these people calm. I'll take care of this monster." Percy said then dove into the water before the captain could protest. Being in the water gave him fantastic belief, and a perfect clarity. The second he landed in the water, he knew his exact latitude and longitude on the world that the people called Remnant. He was exactly 50.36 miles north and 30.41 miles west of an island the locals called Patch. That confused him greatly. Last he saw of the mortal world, it was still called Earth and he had never heard of kingdoms lasting the way these ones had. Did he get flung into some strange timeline like Kyle Reese or something?
Damn ADHD, Percy shook his head and stared straight ahead. There, straight ahead, was one of the creatures the people here called Grimm. They were far dumber than the monsters he was used to, if that was possible, but that didn't make them any less dangerous. Such is the ugly mug coming straight for him. Al Percy could tell from it was the razor-sharp fin sticking from the face of this Grimm. Gods, it was fast too. Percy held out a hand towards the Grimm, twisting it. The water bent to his will, forming cyclones that made the very ocean shudder. The Grimm thrashed as hard as it could, extending long fangs to try and bite at the beast. Grinning in satisfaction, Percy pulled out the ballpoint pen he could not live without, uncapping it. In a matter of seconds, Riptide spring to its full form, glowing against the rocky surface. The Grimm started fighting against the waves harder than before, to where Percy had to control the waves harder. But it was too late; the Grimm broke free from the tidal waves and rocketed towards him, its mouth opened up as if its insides were a black hole. It took everything Percy had to push himself aside and let the beast crash into the rocks nearby.
The Seafarer jolted violently against the impact, the Grimm's gills practically brushing up against Percy's face. It felt slimy even under the water. Percy ignored it, lifting Riptide and stabbing it into the Grimm's side. It let out a roar, pushing the ship back. Black liquid spilled into the water as its jaw unclasped from the rock turning towards him. In a moment, Percy let the very current push him to the opposite side, cutting a deeper gash into the Grimm's side. This time, it reared its head around and chomped to which Percy pushed himself back once more. Percy felt himself breathing hard. The air of Tartarus still stung his very lungs and despite the wounds from Celestial Bronze, it still had some fight left in it. It glowered at Percy, its hatred undeniable. Then, to Percy's astonishment, it unfurled a pair of fins from its side and charged once more. It was so fast, Percy couldn't go up or down without being eaten. Only one way to go then. With a jolt, Percy felt himself rocket towards the surface, breaking the surface as he flew into the air. Percy let out a sigh of relief, until he saw the Grimm break the surface, its fins splayed out far and gave a large flap.
"I never thought I'd hate fish until now." Percy muttered, staring down at imposing death as he knew it. At least, for most people. But Percy knew what he had to do. He slashed down onto the jaw of the Grimm, using the momentum to pull himself over the Grimm's face and onto its back. Gripping tightly to the fin, Percy flipped his grip on Riptide and stuck it deep into its eye. The monster gave another loud roar before int began falling back into the water, its essence no more liquid but rather gas now. How did that work? Percy thought to himself as he landed on his back in the water, staring up at the sky.
Percy would never admit this aloud, but that was fun. That was the most fun he had fighting monsters since who knows how long. Not fighting just for his survival, but just for the fight itself. It gave him a sense of purpose that he hadn't felt any other time in life especially when Annabeth had his back. Annabeth…
"Ahoy! Come back aboard." The captain of the Seafarer threw down a life preserver, the other passengers staring down at him, some in relief and some in fear. Percy didn't care as he grabbed the preserver which pulled him back onto the deck. "That was Huntsman material if I've ever seen it."
"Glad to know I gave you a good show at least." Percy grinned weakly up at the captain. Some of the passengers chuckled but all went about their business as if they weren't in danger if sudden and violent deaths.
"Thank you for saving all of our lives. What can I do for you?"
"Let me sleep the rest of the way." Percy wheezed out. He felt far more exhausted than he should have been. Tartarus took more out of him than even he expected and he could barley move a muscle in his body. He contented himself now with leaning his head back against the bar. Darkness overtook him immediately.
