Ok all Enjoy.
Kal watched as the man before him on his knees screamed out in denial at what was happening. The swirling blue souls that came from the broken blade started to fly high into the sky and disappear into what seemed like nothingness. But he did notice that one stayed, the old man wearing a crown on his head who claimed to be Arthas's father stayed behind and didn't look like he was going anywhere.
The grip Kal held on the lasso tightened as he felt the man struggle and fail to break free from the grip, not that he didn't try to give it his all. Mograine gripped his hands tightly on either side of the crown as it was lifted from his head.
The helm of domination seemed light in the former Death Knights's hands, yet Arthas slumped to the ground as if the greatest weight in existence was lifted from him. The glowing blue mist that had encompassed his eyes fell away as it gave way to an emerald-green colour, the man took many deep breaths as he looked down to the icy ground. If he were a younger man, he would have let the lasso fall and assumed that he was back to the man he used to be. He wasn't going to be so foolish this time around.
Mograine slowly walked around Arthas as he kept the helm held out in front of him, tightly clasped in his hands while at the same time, his own helmet retreated from his head, leaving him open to all around him "You think you have won?" the former prince's voice sounded out as the two stood side by side. Slowly the man's head rose and looked right into Kal's eyes "You think that you have saved them, no. You have only brought his focus upon you" his voice was quiet, almost like a whisper but all could hear clearly enough.
Kal of course wanted to know more about what he was talking about, but he didn't have the time to have an investigation. There was a war just below them and the more they delayed here the more people died, he could worry about all of that later "The lasso of Hestia shall burn away all falsehoods that burry themselves within you" he said as the light of the lasso glowed brighter than before "Prince Arthas, too long how you have been made into a puppet of darkness. No longer, tell me who you are" he demanded.
Arthas gritted his teeth as he looked down at the lasso around him "I… I am…." He couldn't speak, it was the same as what happened with every other Death Knight that he freed. But it wasn't the same, this was different. It was much more powerful "I….am…..." Kal felt a powerful tug on the lasso, something was fighting against its power. It was stopping the power of the lasso from influencing Arthas, that alone was something that had a whole host of horrifying implications to it.
The reason is that the Lasso was a creation of Hestia. A being that ascended to divinity. It didn't matter what one thought about the idea of gods and goddesses, it wasn't what some people thought, Kal has encountered many different people who held the idea that gods only existed because someone believed in them.
That was not the case.
Gods can come into being in very different ways using very different methods but the end result is always the same. Ascension into divinity, when that happens they become far more than they ever could have before, they can create new rules that alter the very world around them, and they can have ownership over people, objects and even concepts themselves. It was an area of power that Kal had only seen with his own eyes and not something he had ever had himself.
With the Lasso being a creation of Hestia, a being divine in nature then there were an incredibly few amounts of things that could halt this. One of the most likely, however, is another divine being.
Kal watched as Arthas's body began to twitch and jolt as if something inside of him was fighting him. He looked closely as small blue cracks started to appear over his body, like it was being reinforced. The power behind the Lich King was fighting back and it wasn't letting him go without more of a fight "What's happening?" Mograine asked as he tucked the helm under his arm and gripped his sword with the other hand.
"Somethings fighting against it" Kal said with gritted teeth as he flicked his wrist and another loop in the lasso was formed before wrapping around the man's neck "ARTHAS!" he shouted "YOU MUST BREAK FREE OF THIS!" he added, trying to reach the man that was being held captive.
The prince's face contorted into one of agony as his head shot backwards, staring up into the dark sky as his mouth fell open in a silent scream "How is this possible?" the former Death Knight asked, clearly getting more and more on edge by what he was seeing.
"Later" Kal said back as he gritted his teeth, pulling on the rope tighter and watching as it glowed bright "Come on, I know you're in there somewhere" he added taking a step closer "You are Arthas Menethil! Prince of Lordaeron! You are a champion of the light! Not a slave to darkness!" Yeah, Kal didn't know Arthas at all, never knowing anything other than what he has seen, but he does know the man others have spoken about.
The man's mouth closed and he turned back to look at Kal, the blue mist started to once again leave his eyes as starred right back at Kal "You think this will stop me, death is not something that can be contained" the voice was once again full of evil as it was when he wore the helm, but this was different. The tone and overall sound of the voice were different, Arthas's voice was overlayed with something else, something far more evil than before.
Kal didn't know who this was, but he did know that the one he was speaking to now was the one in charge, perhaps the real Lich King or just the architect behind it. Either way, he knew the sound of evil when he heard it "You, will release this soul from your grasp immediately!" he ordered with narrowed eyes as they adopted a red hue, counting the enemies blue.
The face held no emotion as it responded "No, it is bound to me" Kal watched as Arthas's body slowly started to get back to his feet, his eyes not leaving Kal's for a moment while Kal tried his best to ignore that it was now so easily ignoring the orders it was given while being bound by the lasso "And no foreign power you wield will change that" it said.
With its only remaining hand, it reached out and grabbed the rope at the point just before it started to wrap around him. Kal's eyes narrowed in both fear and anger as he watched the golden light start to dim, it was being taken over by the blue necromantic magic he was getting used to seeing "NO" he shouted as he watched one of the few things, he had left of Diana being corrupted in such a way. He quickly reached out and grabbed the wrist, this being may be strong, but the body was not and while it was far stronger than any human had a right to be. It was nothing in the face of Kal's strength.
He wrapped his fingers around Arthas's wrist and crushed the limb in an instant, then for good measure he through the mangled arm outwards and within the second that it was straightened out, a quick beam of red light and it was severed completely, leaving the man without any arms. He made a mental note to make him some robot prosthetics later.
Much to his horror however, the light didn't return to its golden form. The icy blue continued to spread until all of the lasso that was wrapped around him had lost the light of Hestia, the only gold coming from that behind Kal's grip and even now it was losing its light. This couldn't be allowed to happen, as the blue started to spread towards his hand Kal didn't move it, he allowed it to reach him. If this thing wanted to dim the light of this relic, then it would have to go through him "You believe that you can stop this. No one can escape death" the voice said again.
Despite the shaking of his hands, the pain that was spreading through himself as a result. He remained rooted in his spot "Death can have me. When it earns me" he snarled.
Throughout all of this Mograine was watching the interaction with widened eyes and shocked features, for the first time since he was freed, he felt a presence in his mind body and soul that he hadn't felt since his death. This entire time he has cursed Arthas for what he has done, for what he caused but looking at him now, looking at what was taking him over, looking at this being that was using him like a puppet just like he and his comrades were used. He felt that he could relate to him, that he could understand him. Mograine felt a sense of kinship with him.
And he felt a call of the Light within him, his desire to help this man and his belief that it was a just call for him to take up. He acted as the Paladin he should have done. He dropped the helm and sword to the ground and made his way to Arthas, he stepped over the amputated limb and didn't stop until he stood behind the downed man.
Without thought or hesitation, he reached out with his open hand and grabbed Arthas by the hair, holding him in a tight grip "Light! Here me now!" he shouted as he looked up into the sky "Grant me this blessing! Allow me to channel you once again! Give me the strength to shatter the chains of domination! ALLOW ME TO SAVE THIS POOR SOUL!" the man chanted his blessing, remembering what it was to be a Paladin of the Silver Hand.
Kal watched as the sky started to crackle around them, he looked up in time to see a beam of light fire from the sky and rain down upon him. Arthas was showered in a beam of light that encompassed him completely "AAAAAHHHHH" he screamed in agony, not something he was surprised by. Having two cosmic entities fighting over you and through you is not peaceful.
Kal watched as the blue light started to dim from the lasso, that was when it was clear. The reason Hestia's power was being beaten was that she was for all intents and purposes foreign to this universe, that means by default she has less power than other deities. They needed something from this universe to beat back something that was the same.
But it wasn't enough, Arthas was still screaming as the Light flowed over him but the blue mist in his eyes was still there. So whatever this being was, it still held a hold on him that the Light couldn't beat 'not on its own' he thought to himself. Kal looked in the corner of his eye and saw a full moon slowly start to lower over the horizon, he remembered the reason he was here, maybe this was the reason why.
"Elune" he muttered to himself "If you're there then I could use your help" he added and that was all he said. If this goddess was as benevolent as he was told then that would be all he needed to say "Hang on Mograine, just a few more seconds!" he yelled as he watched the man start to struggle to keep this up.
Nothing was happening "Come on" he gritted his teeth as he was really starting to feel the pain in his hands, whatever this thing was it was eating away at his skin "I know you brought me here" Nothing was happening "WHY AREN'T YOU HELPING!" he shouted into the air "I KNOW YOU BROUGHT ME HERE! WHY! SO I CAN SOLVE ALL YOUR PROBLEMS!" he looked right at the moon as it was starting to disappear from view "NO! YOU WANT ME TO HELP! THEN YOU PULL YOUR WEIGHT WHEN I ASK FOR IT! COME ON!"
Then he saw it as he stared directly at the moon, it got brighter. Only for a small fraction of a second but it was enough to give him a very good idea of what just happened. Even for someone with his speed, he only had the smallest amount of time for him to act. With his right hand he let go of the Lasso and grabbed the end of it, the small bundle of circles that would never stop extending if that was what he wanted. Was raised into the air just before a blast of pale light the same colour as the surface of the moon hit him.
Kal watched as the beam struck the area just around his hand and connected with the Lasso, the golden light faded from view completely and changed into a pale white. It washed over him and his hands and the pain from before quickly faded away and he didn't know what to expect as the power of Elune joined with that of the Light.
There was a flash so bright and full of so much magic that even he had to shield his eyes "AAAAAAAHHHHH…" The sounds of Arthas's screams started to fade away as the light died down. As soon as it did the light started to fade as well, opening his eyes and turning himself back forward again, the first thing Kal noticed was the lasso in his hands no longer glowed with the light of Hestia but instead now sparkled with a white light that dropped small sprinklings of little drops that seemed like starlight.
He knew right then and there that it had happened.
The Lasso had been taken over.
It wasn't Hestia's anymore.
He made a mental note to mourn the loss later and try and understand what this would mean later. He looked forward to see that while still wrapped by the lasso Arthas was slumped in place as much like every other Death Knight before him, the dark mist of necromantic magic started to leak out of him until there was nothing left "This…... Isn't…... over" the dark voice said before the light faded from the prince's eyes and they returned to their normal green colour.
The man was taking deep breaths as Mograine took a couple of steps back, staggering as he did so. The act of magic he performed clearly took a lot out of him as it seemed he was struggling to stay upright.
The ghost of the old man started to walk forward and didn't stop until he was in front of his son. He kneeled down and placed a hand on the younger man's shoulder, he was mildly surprised that he could physically touch his son. But he didn't interfere as he watched Arthas slowly start to pick his head up and look at the man "Father" he said with a hoarse voice "Is it… over?" he asked.
There was a clear sense of desperation in his tone. The ghost nodded at him "At long last, no king rules forever my son" he said gently.
"I see" Arthas nodded as he looked to Kal over his father's shoulder "It's so quiet…. How did… how did you get him out?" he asked him.
Kal looked at him before really looking at him, into his body as best as he was able despite the magic armour "We'll be talking about that later, at length" he said calmly "For now. Just breathe the free air once again" he added as he flicked his wrist and the now white Lasso unwrapped itself from him and he slumped even further when the rope wasn't holding him in place. He wouldn't be surprised if he didn't just fall to the ground and pass out there. He moved his hand to his wrist and issued a handful of commands. As soon as he did some Boomtubes opened around him and sentinels came through "Place Arthas into containment and get all this armour off him, make sure he's secured but treat him well" He said to one before turning to another "and grab the pieces of the sword, I'll investigate them later"
They all watched as Arthas was slowly lifted up off the ground by a beam that came from the sentinels. Who also gathered the broken remnants of Frostmourne as well before returning back to the fortress. The ghost watched in silence as his son was carried away back through the Boomtube, only when he was gone did he stand back up "Without its master's command" he started as he bent down and picked up the helm of domination "The Scourge and restless undead will pose an even greater threat to this world" he moved towards Kal and handed him the helm "control must be maintained, there must always be a Lich King"
With his final words spoken the ghost faded away into the air and disappeared as the final remnants of the last remaining souls left with him. Kal took a moment to breathe in relief that it was all over before he turned and looked at the helm in his hands "We'll see about that" he said more to himself than anyone else.
The empty face plate looked back at him like it was staring right into him "Kal" a voice called to him and he turned to see Mograine walk up to him, though not before picking up the trident and handing it back to him. Something he took back with a nod of thanks "So what now?" he asked him.
"The plan won't work" Kal said with a shake of his head "We thought you would have had the will to master the helm but now that we know there is something else in there. Something powerful. Godlike. Added to the fact that the lasso has been taken over, meaning it might not be able to help you. You won't be able to do it… I the least I'm not certain enough to risk it" he added, his voice full of sorrow.
Mograine looked down to the ground "Kal, without the control of the helm or the lasso….."
"I know" he interrupted him "Right now the Scourge are all going insane attacking everything and without the Lasso the Death Knights down there can't be freed from the Lich Kings…" Kal stopped talking as he adopted a face of concentration.
A look that Mograine took as well as the train of thought caught up to him as well "If all of the Death Knights are loyal to the Lich King…"
"Does that mean they're free without anyone wearing the helm?" Kal asked finishing his train of thought.
The two looked at each other for a moment before turning to move towards the edge of the Frozen Throne and for the first time looked down at the battle that was happening within the confines of Ice Crown's lands. To Mograine he could just make out the figures fighting each other. He could see past the first black gate that there was a very clear line of order that was trying to push forward further into the enemy but was stuck behind the final Black Gate. On the other side of the battle, the armies of the Scourge were by far more chaotic in nature. He could see no battle lines, no sense of order but from this distance, he couldn't make anything out too clearly.
That wasn't the case for Kal, he watched everything that was happening as if it were frozen in place. He took in all the information he could, he could see the very clear lines of both Horde and Alliance forces as they seemed to be holding the line as they were getting swarmed by the far weaker but more numerous army of the Scourge, he watched as the dragons flew through the sky, scorching the ground as they flew and battling the other undead dragons in the sky.
An impressive display but not what he was looking for, he looked towards the base of the Citadel to where the undead would be making their way in to hold off Kal's own forces. Then he saw as his theory was confirmed, in a place which should have the most order from the Scourge was anything but. All the Skeletons, zombies, the hulking abominations and everything that was not Death Knights were fighting against each other. The Death Knights themselves were fighting everything they could but what he could see clearly enough was that they seemed to be teaming up with each other and watching each other's backs.
"We need to move!" Kal shouted as he quickly turned and moved back towards the teleporter. Mograine didn't waste any time and quickly turned with him. The fact the Death Knights seemed to be free meant that they needed to move quickly otherwise the time they took to get into this Citadel without a fight meant nothing, they did this to save those they could and right now. They were failing, they needed to hurry before it was too late.
Fila sprinted as fast as she was able, the fight with this pile of bones had taken far longer than it had any right to but it was about to end now. They were able to keep it away from the choke point but there were few of them to bring it down quickly, of course, it was on its last 'legs' so to speak and none of them was so much as grazed by its heavy axe.
Fila hopped to the side as the axe embedded itself in the ground in the spot she just was though instead of running further away. She jumped into the air and landed on the shaft of the weapon with the grace and balance that only a Night Elf would have. Ran forward further with her weapon raised. She yelled in righteous fury as the blade connected with not one but all three skulls that acted as its heads. Despite the powerful magic keeping this thing together, it was clearly no match for the metal and plasma that made up her weapon and they were all severed from body.
With that move, Fila hit the ground with a thud just as the body of their enemy fell as well. This time it wasn't going to be coming back, it was dead "Well done" Lady Blaumeux spoke as the group that turned to fight this massive weapon came together "Let's go join the others" she added as they quickly turned and started to move back towards the choke point.
THUD
They all quickly turned with their weapons ready for what just arrived, only to lower them and let out a sigh of relief as they saw Kal land on the ground just in front of the dead body of the skeleton guardian, Mograine was standing right next to him, clearly, he was just given a lift down but was quick to step away from the alien.
Though as soon as he started to step forward Fila noticed it immediately, the helmet that seemed to be clasped to Kal's waist "Is it done?" Blaumeux asked as even behind the helmet, Fila could tell that she was looking at the helm as well.
"It is" Kal confirmed as he turned around and started to make his way past the large dead collection of bones and didn't stop until he was right at the base of the spire that made up the heart of the Citadel. Those present watched as he pressed something on his wrist and a familiar portal opened next to him, what they didn't expect was a large circular object to be deposited out of it and gently placed up against it.
"What's that?" Blaumeux asked in confusion which was reflected by the others.
"Don't worry about it" Kal said as he started to move forward towards them "There was an unforeseen complication with the helm" he said as they reached the choke point and the backs of the first line of shooters that still fired at all the undead that started run towards them. When he reached them, Kal placed a hand on one shoulder, which was enough to get the attention of the man who turned to look at him, upon seeing Kal he stepped to the side which caused a chain reaction as he started to walk forward through the defence lines "I'll give you all a full report later!" he said loud enough for everyone present to hear him "for now the plan has changed! The mindless Scourge are rampaging in every direction, without anyone wearing the helm the Death Knights seem to have been freed from control" as he reached the front line next to all the melee users. He lifted himself up off the ground until he could clearly see the corridor and open gate in front of him. His eyes glowed red and all watched as he annihilated all that charged towards them "Your brothers and sisters, your fellow captives stand alone against both the Scourge and the army trying to help us. We need to save them! all of you, stand fast! CHARGE FORWARD NOW! ONCE MORE ONTO THE BREACH!"
'What is this madness?' the Arch Druid thought to himself as his heavy claws slashed another of the mindless undead, he quickly turned his head to hit another but before he could it was tackled to the ground by more of its own kind. They were turning on each other, but how was such a thing possible? He had no idea but for now, he was well aware that he did not have the luxury of thinking about it, hesitation would cost him everything on the front lines.
So he continued to do what he could, the forward assault lines were pushing forward even further towards the walls of the final gate. Something that was easy to do when the enemy started to fight each other. The problem being that they had no way to bring down the gate itself, he very much doubted the Life-Binder would wish to use her own form as a battering ram once again.
Despite the fighting and carnage that was happening around him, he couldn't help but notice the flashes of light that were taking place in the sky above them, downing another enemy before looking upwards he could make out something he hadn't seen before. There were dozens and dozens of white circles appearing in the sky all around them and from them quickly came Kal's famous sentinels.
For a moment he wondered what this meant, if they were going to be helping them in some, there was no way he could have predicted what happened next. The machines started to fly all around the battlefield. Naturally, his eyes followed the one closest to him, he watched with a look of confusion as it moved towards the enemy ranks and from its singular eye a beam of white shot from it and it engulfed something he could see through all the bodies in front of them. At least until it rose further into the air and started to fly away. However, this time carrying what seemed to be a trapped Death Knight that was frozen in place.
His confusion only grew as he looked around the battlefield to see the same sight over and over again, these sentinels were moving throughout the entire battle, each one grabbing a Death Knight before retreating 'What is going on?' he thought to himself.
'What madness has been added to these poor souls now' the Life-Binder thought to herself as she landed on the final black gate of this dark fortress. Her heavy claws dug into the metal as she landed, crushing those who stood there before her arrival. For a moment she watched as the hundreds of undead who at one point were guarding this wall and attacking their forces now turned on each other in slaughter. Her heart melted at the sight of these poor creatures but it also added to the fire within her to end it.
Her chest and throat adopted a lightly orange hue before he opened her mouth and let loose a torrent of flame that incinerated all it came into contact with. As the fire rescinded a large sense of power drew her attention. Turning her head to the right she caught the sight of the front entrance to the Citadel overrun with red and blue lights. Her eyes narrowed as she saw the cause, there he was. Kal-El was leading a charge, out of the Citadel?
She was so shocked by the bold move she didn't notice all the Boom tubes open above her. As the sentinels descended all around the battlefield, why they were taking the Death Knights she had no idea, her eyes remained too focused on Kal-El as he proved to be a whirlwind of gold. His weapon moved so quickly even she could barely see its clear movements. Just behind him, she saw a force the likes of which she had never seen before. They wore armour that covered their whole bodies. Their weapons seemed to be some sort of rifle and they charged forward into the heart of the Scourge army without any hesitation. Granted, if they were still a somewhat cohesive force they would have been overwhelmed but now that they were all fighting each other.
This small force was having no trouble cutting a hole right into the heart of the Scourge, she watched with no small amount of amazement as killed all who got close without a single loss on their own side. Her head jerked to the side as one of her smaller corrupted kin landed on her head and tried to claw at her. She roared in both pain and rage as she lifted her claw and grabbed the smaller form, crushing it tight before slamming it into the ground. She will mourn the loss of so many of her kin later, for now, she must not allow her mind to wander further than it has to. She's been in far too many battles to know what happens to those who lose their wits during battle.
So she continued, walking across the large gate and towards the first layer of fortifications around the base of the Citadel proper. She stomped and burnt all who came close but her eyes couldn't help but wonder as she did so. She could see the enemy all losing themselves to this frenzies but the more armoured ones, the real Death Knights looked to be working together to fight off their lessors, the reason for this…. she couldn't say but it did make her wonder.
Feeling the current of the winds near her head change, she didn't even look before jumping up slightly on her hind legs and her mighty jaws snapped around one of her undead kin. Trying not to vomit due to the putrid taste, she threw the dead being away and crashed off the wall into a small gathering of undead.
"We have lost the momentum" The sound of Malygos's voice caught her attention and she turned to see him hovering in the air next to her. Many different spells were being fired upon him but with every one that did, his scales seemed to glow slightly as if they were repelling them.
"We need to bring the final gate down" another voice called and Yesra soon landed in the enemy camp at the base of the Citadel, her large feet crushing all under her and she was quick to open her mouth and breath the green fire directly at her feet, not effecting her but everything around her found themselves melted.
"We cannot. The magic protecting it is too strong for such a quick…" as the aspect of magic spoke, his head started to move slightly higher and Alexstrasza realised that he wasn't looking at her but something behind her. She was quick to turn her head and her own eyes widened at the sight.
Kal's force had found themselves at the halfway point between the main entrance to the Citadel, she wasn't really surprised by that. They seemed incredibly capable, what was shocking to her was what Kal was doing. He was leading the charge and killing all that got in his way but whenever he neared a Death Knight or a grouping of them, he used his trident to… flip them into the air.
The aspects of Life, Magic and the Dream moved their heads upwards as another Death Knight was thrown upwards and their eyes widened before it could start to come down. One of those little machines flew towards them and caught them before flying away "Is he capturing them?" she asked allowed, her voice not possessing the same sense of power it did before.
"It matters not" Malygos added as he turned and started to turn back to the battle, ready to add support to their mortal allies "Get ready to bring the gate down" he ordered.
While he wasn't in charge, he always was the most militaristic of the flights so the other two aspects present had little trouble following his words and took into the air. The Life-Binder took to the skies to aid their kin in the air while she of the Dream moved to the mortals, intent on casting great spells of healing to aid those suffering.
She was running out of arrows.
Sylvanas was near the front lines of the battle. They were only a short distance away from the final gate leading to the Citadel proper, she was surrounded by her honour guard and they were doing as well a job as they could despite the battle. And what a battle it was. She has fought in many different wars and taken a part in many battles but never before has one been so chaotic.
The enemy horde was facing themselves as much as they were them. She had no doubts as to that being the only reason their host was able to push as far as they had. They were still having trouble in some areas but they were fairing far better than they had any right to.
She didn't doubt the reason as to why that was the case either when that bright light filled the sky centred on the peak of Icecrown. She might not know for certain, but she has a very good idea of what that meant. The Lich king was just defeated and without him, the Scourge were losing their minds.
Her arrows flew and as she saw more mindless undead run towards them, her hand moved instinctually to her quiver only to curse to herself as she found it empty. She was quick to place her bow on her back and grab his twin swords. While not her most favoured weapon, they would do the job. While she was sure her guard attempted to stop her she moved too quickly and stepped forward into the melee. The skeleton tried to slash at her with its axe but she was quick to lean back before moving and stabbing upwards through its skull.
She kicked its chest and it fell only to be replaced by a Death Knight that moved towards her with a sword and shield. He made a strike which she parried only for her return attack to be blocked by the shield.
Despite her skill, she was never one to use strength in a fight and when it became clear this move was a test of strength he was quick to pull her weapons back and manoeuvre herself to the man's side in an attempt to slash at his exposed joints. Which seemed to do the trick, the large man quickly fell to his knee and would have remained open enough for her to finish the job at his neck but the resilience of Death Knights was one of the most impressive in the world.
The man raised his shield blocked the attack and made a slash upward with his blade, her reflexes were able to save her once again and she leaned back. The tip of the blade just brushed against her nose but was able to cut the tip of her hood and there was enough force behind it to push it off her head.
With her whole head exposed, she had to immediately resist the urge to bring it back up. Not due to some sort of vanity but practicality. She could already feel the wind brush her hair up to her field of view. The man looked ready to charge at her again, which she was preparing for but to her shock, the man paused in his stance. The blue lights behind his helmet narrowed as he looked at her with what seemed like confusion "Ranger General?" the man spoke with a deep voice.
The sheer randomness of the statement made her pause as well, confused by the sense of familiarity made Sylvanas hesitate herself. A Death Knight has never spoken to her before unless it was a threat to her life. Before she could even wonder what to do next. She was interrupted.
BOOM
A massive explosion sounded not too far away from them. She and the others around her didn't even get time to turn their heads towards the gate before the shock wave hit them and they were pushed back, she and many others were able to stay on their feet and could make out the smoke coming from the now large hole in the final Black Gate.
She expected that she and many others would be needed to take cover due to the incoming wreckage that would scatter down around them, but none came. Nothing was falling on top of them, and nothing looked like it was about to, it was when she looked towards the gate that she saw the area around the large hole was scolding with red heat, it hadn't exploded or been forced open. It was melted.
The sound and shockwave must have come from the speed to which the heat hit and melted the metal "Grraahhh!" a loud yell caught her attention before she was tackled to the ground by a barely head-together undead that was an amalgamation of rotted flesh and broken bone. She landed on her back ruffly, the swords falling from her grasp. She brought her hands up just in time to block the undead as it tried to bite into her neck, she held her hands around its neck. Trying to push it back as it clawed at her, where her escorts were she didn't know but she imagined they wouldn't be in the best state considering they weren't helping her.
The weight was lifted from her and she watched as the Death Knight she was fighting reached down and grabbed the head of the undead, with a single hand he lifted it above his head and slammed it into the ground crushing its skull. The man looked down at her and it was then that she got more of a clear view of his features, those that she could see despite the heavy armour of course. She only noticed a handful of things she didn't see the first time around, the main one being the ears peaking out from either side of his helmet "On your feet, Ranger General!" the man shouted as he moved to offer her a hand up but before he could there was a flash of white and he has seized a field that engulfed him.
She was quick to move to her feet to see one of those machines that worked around Kal-El's home being the one firing it and carrying the Death Knight into the air as he was unable to move once hit with the light. She immediately wanted to shoot the thing down and get some answers from the man but she was stopped by a gust of wind and the sight of Kal-El himself standing in front of her. Golden trident in hand "Sound the retreat" he said to her.
The sheer audacity of the statement brought her up short, as well as the shock of seeing him here in front of her "You dare!..." she started, both at the tone upon which he spoke and the idea that he could give her an order.
"Yes! I do!" he shouted back as his eyes lit up with a red light, if he was trying to scare her into agreement then he would be sorely disappointed. She opened her mouth to argue back but stopped when her eyes landed on his waist. More specifically what was hanging from there, she watched with a frozen face and stopped heart as the Helm of Domination rested there.
The very fact it was there but gave the Ranger General her greatest wish and worst Nightmare. The Lich King was gone and SHE wasn't the one to kill. Her face must have contorted into one of complete rage as Kal-El simply ROLLED HIS EYES AT HER?! Before he moved past her before she could blink and grabbed a large horn from the belt of one of her honour guards and flew into the air before she could do anything to stop her.
With a mighty breath, he placed his hands and lips around the tip of the horn and blew
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
The echo of the war horn was louder than she had ever heard it before and it was followed quickly by a "RETREAT!" which he shouted just as loud, combine that with his form flying over the battlefield and there was nothing she could do before she was practically dragged back by her guards as their host started to fall back through the broken gates and towards the mountain pass. The dragons flew after them just as quickly, even the Aspects not staying back for longer than they needed to.
Kal hovered in the air just in front of the large crack between the two mountains that the army just left through, while the Night Elves and dragons seemed more than happy to leave. Kal couldn't help but notice that the Forsaken and Orcs didn't seem to understand why they were leaving, in some cases they almost refused to do so. Only being dragged back by the majority of their forces wasn't a complete unknown because Kal's seen a handful of different cultures that frown on things such as retreat, but this seemed a little overboard.
He looked down to the ground and could see that his own forces were the last ones to leave, forming a handful of lines that aimed their weapons at the enemy, the few of them that tried to continue their attack on them at least. Their silver armour shined brightly against the dark stone of the mountains, and he could clearly see Mograine being the last one to start to retreat into the crack which is essentially just a kill zone when you add the rifles.
Kal took a final deep breath as he looked at the dark fortress, they saved as many Death Knights as they could, even those who were restrained on the upper balcony when they first arrived. At least over a hundred, he didn't have an exact number at the minute. But he'd go over it all later.
For now, he had an eye sore to get rid of. He pressed the small piece of his suit just before the start of the bracelet of submission. Inside the fortress at the base of the spire, the large device that has been waiting patiently let out a small ping.
Kal didn't flinch as the flash of light took up his entire field of view. It may have been a mistake to introduce a world such as this to nuclear weapons but to be fair this was quite tame in terms of weapons he could have unleashed. The flash started to dim slightly, the shock wave smashed against him and caused the mountains under him to shake against the force but they were a safe distance away from it that a shockwave was all they would get.
As the famous mushroom cloud started to form in the heart of the dark citadel, he could tell that there would be a very small amount that would remain standing, but it would be very minuscule all things considered. He knew that he would need to answer so many different questions just from those who fought in the battle, let alone when he got back home. He didn't doubt that they would be asking him for another summit where he was the focus of. At that, he couldn't help but give a small shrug to himself, something he could deal with later.
For now, he stayed in the air to watch the blast for just a little bit longer. Watching as the entire army of the Scourge was just wiped out "hhhhhhhmmmmmmm hhhhmmmm" with the sound coming from directly behind him, Kal once again turned as fast as he was able but found nothing there. He made a mental note to look into that as soon as he was able.
We shall call it there for now, sorry for the delay. I've been really tired the last couple of days and I wanted to do this right. So yeah I added some Shadowlands stuff in there. Yes, Kal did just nuke Icecrown and everyone in the army saw it. Let me know what you all think and I'll see you in the next chapter.
