Chapter 32 – World Riding Duel Grand Prix Preliminaries Part 1
Jack and Aki vs Andre
January 19, 20XX. The day has finally arrived. It is a bright, sunny morning in the Kaibacorp stadium. Hundreds if not thousands have gathered to bear witness to the greatest dueling event to hit Neo Domino City since the Fortune Cup over a year ago.
The pompadour announcer makes his grand declaration. "EVERYBODY LISTEN! It has finally begun! The first World Riding Duel Grand Prix!"
Onto the stadium steps the two teams for this preliminary: Team 5D's and Team Unicorn.
With the three emperors, the duel is being broadcast to them. Luciano cackles. "About time this got started! I was wondering if we'd ever get to work on the Circuit."
"We wouldn't have to if Paradox had done her job," Placido mumbles.
"Let it be. She is in a better place," Jose says as he focuses on the view.
The announcer resumes his speech. "The location of this tournament is the entire city the whole world is watching! Neo Domino City! And here where the Fortune Cup was carried out, the A block will compete! The winner of the Atlantic Cup, Team Unicorn with Jean, Andre, and Jean!"
On the digital monitor, the three members are shown. "And their opponents? The winner of the Fortune Cup, Yusei Fudo, the former King of Neo Domino City, Jack Atlas, and the Fortune Cup runner-up Aki Izayoi!"
Team 5D's are shown next to Team Unicorn. Seeing the lineup, Jean flinches. "Wait, hold up. Where's Crow Hogan?"
"I guess they made a last-second change too…" Andre says with a smirk.
"But this isn't what we planned against!"
"It's fine. We have data on Aki Izayoi's duels from the Fortune Cup, and she only recently received her license. She won't be a problem," Jean tells him with confidence.
"These two teams have been highly predicted to be the winners! But who will actually pull it off?!"
In the stands, everyone associated with both teams watches. Ushio, Mikage, Carly, Stephanie, Aki's parents, and even Sherry and Mizoguchi. The woman Saeko is there as well, holding up a notepad with those familiar specs. Over in Satisfaction Town, the bar is showing the duel live to everyone. Even Barbara is watching, having requested time off to watch.
Down where 5D's is, Lua and Luca show up with a pit board. "Andre is going first."
"Alright. Jack, you will go first, and then Aki and finally me."
"You won't want to settle that duel?" asks Luca curiously.
"They'll be expecting that. Jack's power deck can handle Andre's, so we start with him," says Bruno to the kids.
Jean approaches the team. "Yo."
"Oh, you," Crow says with some coy. "What do you want?"
"Oh, nothing. I just thought it was a shame that you got injured. We were hoping to face you all at your best." Aki narrows her eyes at that statement. It feels that's an obvious jab at her.
"Don't you worry; even without me, Team 5D's is the strongest!"
"I know. You guys are our greatest rivals in the tournament after all. The day to settle this has come…"
"Let's both do our best then," says Yusei to Jean.
"Of course. The battle has already begun." He leaves, heading back to his team. Of course, Yusei notes something off about that while the others take it at face value.
"The runners have been decided! The team crew will return to the pit and the duel will finally begin!"
Andre and Jack come together, just itching to cross the finish line. Jack huffs. "I've been itching to face you. Your Power Deck will fall to mine!"
Andre says nothing back, simply smirking as if he knows something Jack doesn't.
"Speed World 2, set on!"
As their D-Wheels enter Duel Mode, without autopilot, the countdown begins. They wait in anticipation until it hits go.
"RIDING DUEL ACCELERATION!"
Both D-Wheels shoot off at high speed to enter the track. Jack's Wheel of Fortune pulls ahead easily to get the first turn. But, Andre's secret weapon deploys; an over-boost system fires, pushing Andre ahead of Jack.
Andre enters the first corner. 'Jack Atlas, the WRGP isn't like the Fortune Cup or any other tournament you've faced. I'll show you all what it means to duel as a team.'
Entering the track, both duelists draw their starting hand.
Andre: 4000
Jack: 4000
After drawing, Andre immediately summons Unicorn Familiar.
Unicorn Familiar: 0/1000 (2) Tuner
"Next, by banishing a Magic card from my hand, I special summon Monoceros!" Appearing onto his field in defense mode are two monsters: the first is a little teal goblin, and the other a beastly black and brown unicorn.
Monoceros: 1000/1000 (3)
Jack notes his field, expecting an immediate Synchro Summon. That is until Andre sets two cards facedown and ends his turn.
Yusei immediately catches onto how strange that is. "Wait a minute… why didn't he Synchro Summon?"
"Yeah, that was obviously where it looked like he was going… but knowing Jack's strength, it's not strange to leave 2 monsters in defense mode," Bruno says, trying to fish for logic in Andre's actions.
"Red Daemon's effect punishes defensive plays. Not to mention Monoceros' effect revives a Tuner. Even after that, he'd still have two monsters on the field. If anything, a powerful monster in attack mode would have been ideal."
Crow cups his chin. "Yeah… why did he do it then?"
"Something is going on here that we may have missed…" Yusei says with his arms crossed.
Back to the action, Jack begins his turn. "I'll show you my power! Draw!"
He reveals his drawn card as Vice Dragon before special summoning it via its special effect. After that, he brings forth Dark Resonator. With both monsters, he performs a Synchro Summon. "The ruler's heartbeat will be heard here; bear witness to its earth-shaking power!"
From the light of Synchro, flames sanitize the field. "Synchro Summon – My very soul, Red Daemon's Dragon!" His ace dragon appears from the fire, roaring through its blood-red teeth as it soars through the skies.
"There it is! Red Daemon's Dragon!" As the announcer shouts, the Jack Atlas fan club cheers him on. And somehow, they've copied Mikage's catchphrase.
"Your monsters are nothing to Red Daemon's effect! It destroys all defense-positioned monsters after battling one! Absolute Power Force!" His dragon forms a ball of fire in one hand to slam into Unicorn Familiar.
'He fell for it.' Unfortunately, this is when Jack Atlas will realize that he screwed up.
"Unicorn Familiar's effect; when it is selected as an attack target, I can banish it by banishing another monster I control from the game!" Both of the monsters enter the void, dodging the fireball with ease.
"What? Now his field is empty!" shouts Crow in surprise.
'Oh, that's what he's after…' "Because the field conditions have changed, I'll halt Red Daemon's attac-"
"Too late for that! Unicorn Familiar's effect forces you to resume attack!" As the dragon comes down upon Andre, his trap activates. "Different Dimension Barrier – Lost Force! When a monster is removed from the field outside of battle, I negate the attack and inflict it upon you."
"What?!" The dragon pounds against a barrier Andre forms around him, causing it to shatter and fire off in the form of energy bullets upon Jack.
"Have a taste of your own power, Jack!"
As Jack is bombarded, his life points drop down to 1000. Angered, he rides through the smokescreen of his comeuppance. "I'll set three cards and end my turn!"
Over at the pit, Breo laughs. "Jean, your plan worked!"
"Of course it did. Their misunderstanding plus Andre going first could only equal this outcome."
"I can't believe he fell for that, though," Jean adds as Andre begins his turn. "You'd think a seasoned Riding Dueling and the former king would have seen that coming! What, were all of his matches fixed or something?"
Andre sets the card he drew in his hand before activating Unicorn Familiar's effect; it comes back to the field. He then reveals a new monster in his hand. "Different Dimension Unicorn Knight can only be special summoned by bringing back the banished Monoceros!"
Monoceros storms back onto the field. At the same time, a new monster with a horn and blue armor pops onto the field.
DDUK: 1800/0 (4)
"I'll tune my two monsters together, Monoceros and Unicorn Familiar!" The familiar turns into two rings that pass by Monoceros. "Galloping in the heavens like thunder, crisscrossing them like a mighty gate, appear forth from the world of myths and legend!"
The light of Synchro pierces the field. "Synchro Summon – Neigh, Thunder Unicorn!"
Appearing beside Andre's D-Wheel is a dark blue unicorn with a lightning bolt for a horn, as well as one streaking across its fur.
Thunder Unicorn: 2200/1800 (5)
Jack hmphs. "That little horn ain't going to do a damn thing against my dragon!"
"Then maybe this will," Andre smirks as he looks back. "Once per turn, Thunder Unicorn can reduce your monster's attack points by 500 for each other Beast monster I control."
"500 points won't make a difference!"
"Who said it was 500? Monoceros can revive the Tuner I used with him to Synchro Summon!" And like that, Unicorn Familiar returns to the field.
With both monster's power, Thunder Unicorn gathers electricity from both monsters to power itself up. It then fires a storm that weakens Red Daemon's Dragon to 2000. His target in sight, Andre does a quick backturn, pointing at the dragon. "Thunder Unicorn, attack Red Daemon's Dragon!"
Using its lightning horn, the unicorn bisects the dragon.
Jack: 800
"Impossible… to think these bastards could destroy Red Daemon's so easily…" Jack grumbles, wondering what to do.
"Not bad. He's playing that hard deck without any mishap," says Breo as he crosses his arms.
"I told you; he's a genius." Jean grins as he continues watching. "Andre's sense of card playing can't be stopped. A Banish Synchro Deck is perfect for him."
On the other end, Bruno looks at the system specs of the Wheel of Fortune and notices an error. 'Uh oh.' "Guys, we have a problem!"
"What's wrong?"
"There's a problem with the air intake. We need to bring him in to check."
"Won't we lose Speed Counters?" asks Lua, remembering the rules.
"Safety first. Bring him in." On the leader's orders, Lua and Luca write on the pit board just as Andre sets a card.
Jack angrily faces Andre. "If you're trying to take my power away from me, I'll bring it back stronger than ever!"
He passes by and spots the pit board warning. Angry, he shouts, "Forget it! As if I can stop at a time like this!"
Jack draws for his turn. "Mad Daemon, come out!"
As he brings out his monster, he also activates his trap card, Boosted Reincarnation. It brings back Dark Resonator with an added level and an extra 1000 attack points. "Finally, Raging Synchro!"
His trap card opens up. "By sending the monsters needed for a Synchro monster in my graveyard, I can special summon it with an extra 500 attack points until the next end phase!" Performing a pseudo-Synchro Summon, he revives his Red Daemon's Dragon even stronger than before.
RDD: 3500/2000 (8)
"Oh shoot. I think I pissed him off."
"ABSOLUTE POWER FORCE!" It's true; Jack is running on pure adrenaline now as his dragon attacks.
"Dimension Trap!" Andre's trap opens up. "By banishing a monster on my field along with a trap in my grave, I can activate that removed trap's effect!"
Unicorn Familiar and Lost Force enter the void, allowing Andre to form the barrier.
"Oh, you and your banishing tricks! Overpower!" Jack's trap opens up, empowering the dragon with a blazing hot aura. "This trap negates any effect that negates an attack!" The dragon roars before punching through the barrier. Its fist slams into the unicorn, turning it into charred horse meat.
Andre: 2700
Crow and the others sigh as they see Jack make it through. However, Yusei realizes something he's been dreading since they spoke with Jean. "Everyone, we've made a grave mistake in our strategy."
"What do you mean?" asks Crow.
"He's not using a Power Deck, is he?" Aki realizes, to which Yusei nods.
"Nope. It's a Banish deck specializing in handling Power Decks," Bruno tells them once the realization sets in.
"Wait, but then… Oh shit!" Crow realizes what's going on. "We've been had! They crossed in front of me on purpose!"
"Exactly. They set a bait, and our naivety drew us into their lure." Yusei explains everything as the kids are a little slow on the uptake. "They wanted us to think Andre would use a Power Deck and made us go in with Jack thinking we could counter it."
"Is that why they used the Overboost? Even though it barely kept within regulations?"
"They tricked us…" Aki mutters.
Over on the other side, Team Unicorn notes them turning to face them. Jean says, "Looks like they caught on… too bad it's too late."
"Yeah. Jack's already behind the safety line."
Thinking, Yusei turns to Aki. "Aki, I need to ask you a favor."
She flinches at the sudden request, and soon they both move out of sight.
Back to the duel, Andre chuckles. "Not bad, Jack Atlas. I didn't think you could make such a play to counter mine. But, don't think it's over yet. That may have worked back then, but this is the WRGP."
"I don't need advice on dueling from you!"
"But you've also screwed yourself over." Andre's trap opens up. "Parallel Select; when a Synchro Monster is destroyed, I can add a banished card to my hand and draw one card."
He pilfers the Speed Spell he banished earlier in the duel, The End of Storm. That sets off a red flag for Jack, who knows he's only at 800 lp. Upon beginning his turn, his finale for Jack starts. "Speed World 2's effect; by removing 4 Speed Counters, I can deal 800 points of damage for every Speed Spell in my hand!"
As it is the fifth turn, Andre has 4 counters. They drop to 0 as a lightning bolt hits Jack from the horn of the D-Wheel.
Jack: 0000
As his life points reach 0, his machine turns off and prepares to eject smoke and Red Daemon's Dragon disappears into the void. But, his machine stalls and spins out. "What?!"
He flips to the side, damaging the machine and causing him to go flying. The crowd cries out in shock, along with Team 5D's: "JACK!"
"THIS IS HORRIBLE! JACK ATLAS HAS CRASHED!"
Yusei and Aki return just in time to see the crash. Bruno bites down his teeth. "There was a problem with the D-Wheel after all…"
The team's leader rushes to the track to reach Jack, who conveniently landed one meter away from the pit. "STOP!" Jack groans, pushing himself up. "The rules… are still intact… If an outsider helps, then we're all disqualified…"
Jack picks up his D-Wheel, still in intense pain from crashing. Using all of his strength, he pushes the machine forward toward the pit. Andre passes by in the meantime.
As he does, Andre's Speed Counters increase. Because the more laps Andre makes, the more counters he accrues. But since Jack can't ride his machine, once Andre reaches 12, his Speed Counters will go down. Once they reach 0, they lose.
Aki quickly reaches the Bloody Rose, getting ready to take over. She takes a deep breath as she prepares. Seeing her, Yusei makes a suggestion. "Aki, don't worry. I believe in you."
She looks up at him, her mind recalling the time Yusei and Misty kissed. She shakes her head free of these thoughts. 'No, Aki. Focus. It's not about why I felt bothered by that. This is about the tournament.'
Jack soon reaches the final line, before ripping his tag off to hand to Aki. She grabs it, slaps it on, and drives. Her machine matches up with Andre's, saving Team 5D's with 1 counter left.
The crowd cheers at the lucky break Team 5D's had. Meanwhile, Carly, Mikage, and Stephanie enter the Duel Pit - how they did it is up in the air - to help see Jack off on the stretcher.
Pushing her machine, she passes the first corner before Andre.
'Well, that's what I get for using the Overboost…'
"DUEL!"
Andre: 2700 (12)
Aki: 4000 (1)
Over in the stands, a small group is seen with a defacing flag booing. But instead of hazing Team 5D's or Team Unicorn, it's Aki. The white flag shows a picture of a witch being burned at the stake, made in Aki's image.
"Get that monster off the field! She'll just cause destruction again!" shouts the small group.
Hearing them, Sherry gets up from her seat. Saeko narrows her eyes with a grumble, ignoring them.
Aki begins her turn, increasing her Speed Counters to 2. Examining the six cards in her hand, she thinks of a way to win. 'Andre uses a Banish Beast Synchro Deck… so everything he does involves banishing cards. If I use this, he'll immediately get rid of it as effectively as possible… and if he can use any Speed Spell right now…'
"I summon Lonefire Blossom!" Her monster appears on the field, a plant of bright heat. "By releasing Lonefire Blossom, I can special summon a Plant monster from my deck! Come forth; Phoenixian Seed!"
The plant blossoms into the eye seed landing onto the field. "By sending this monster to the graveyard, I can special summon Phoenixian Cluster Amaryllis from my hand!"
Her monster molts, turning into a phoenix in the form of a flower. "Flame Petal!"
Amaryllis fires petals upon the Unicorn Warrior, destroying it.
Andre: 2300
"Next, Amaryllis will destroy itself. And, you receive 800 points of damage!" Her monster then fires flames upon Andre as it explodes.
Andre: 1500
"I'll set two cards facedown and end my turn. And during the end phase, Amaryllis will revive itself by banishing Phoenixian Seed." Her monster returns to the field, shrieking like a phoenix being reborn.
Saeko scuffs. 'So, you're not going to use your powers? Coward.'
Breo nods, impressed by her somewhat. "Not bad. She knows what she's doing."
Jean waves off the praise, saying, "So? Andre can use any Speed Spell right now. With such a large gap, Izayoi has no chance of winning unless she goes all out. But knowing him, he's already figured out how to defeat her."
"You mean The End of Storm?"
Andre thinks about a way to handle this. 'No. The End of Storm will only give her the chance to win. That plant will deal damage to me and come back, and there's nothing in my hand after that can defeat her. So, I'll get rid of it without destroying it.' "Draw!"
He smirks seeing the card he drew was just what he wanted. "I activate Dash Pilfer!" His Speed Spell opens up. "Dash Pilfer allows me to steal a monster you control in defense mode! I'll take Phoenixian Cluster Amaryllis!"
Wordlessly, Aki presses a button on her field. Even so, Dash Pilfer steals her phoenix plant. With it gone, Andre snickers. "I have the advantage. I summon Unibird!"
Andre's next monster is a blue bird with lightning strikes on it. "Unibird's effect; by banishing this card and another monster I control, I can special summon a Synchro Monster with a lower level!"
"So that's how he's doing it…"
"Come back, Thunder Unicorn!" His ace unicorn returns to the field, neighing proudly. "Direct attack!"
His monster races forward. "Thunder Spear!" The unicorn stabs her D-Wheel from behind.
Aki: 1800
Andre then sets a card before ending his turn.
"Nice!" Jean says as he gives a thumbs up. "He found a way around her!"
"He could have won if he used Speed World 2's effect, but I guess he was wary of her other cards… or, he was preparing for Yusei," Breo says with a smirk.
"No doubt the latter. Yusei is the big target here."
Over with Yusei and the others, they worry for Aki. "This is looking bad for Aki…" says Lua as he stares at the field.
"With just two cards, he completely read her strategy and subverted it," Bruno states with worry.
Yusei shakes his head. "Don't worry. Aki still has plays. He'll soon see why he should have finished her off immediately."
"Huh?"
"Take that, you stupid witch!" shouts the haters of the psychic duelist, the flag still twirling in the air.
As they do, Sherry approaches them with clenched fists. "Huh? What do you want?"
"I'm not one for causing scenes. Can we speak outside?" Sherry asks them calmly.
Andre smirks as he follows after Aki. Without turning to face him, she says, "You're not taking me seriously."
"I'm just playing the long game. Yusei is who we have to worry about, not you."
Taking in a deep breath, Aki aggressively exhales from her nose. "That's true. You set us up not just so you can trap us with sending Jack first, but to see how Yusei plays… did you also study my duels the past few months?"
He flinches from her statement. "Past few months?"
"Didn't think so. I hope you don't get upset." Aki begins her turn, drawing her card. She then reveals the card. "Speed Spell – Shift Down! By reducing my Speed Counters by 6, I can draw two cards!"
"Eh?!" That shocks the members of Team Unicorn.
"You can't activate that card; you only have 4 counters right now!"
"Do I?" The stat score shows Aki's Speed Counters. They have suddenly shot up to 12, before coming down to 6 due to her fast magic.
"Twelve?!" Breo shouts in surprise looking at the screen. "When the hell did that happen?!"
"Look at her graveyard," Jean says, seeing the trap card on top of her grave.
Surprised by it, the blond duelist shouts, "Slipstream?!"
"Slipstream?" asks Luca as she looks at the card.
Yusei proceeds to explain. "It's a trap card for Riding Duels. When the opponent activates a Speed Spell, it makes your Speed Counters equal theirs."
Crow snickers. "Atta girl!"
"Wait… when did she use it?" asks Lua as he looks.
Andre narrows his eyes with a scuff. "She was expecting me to use a Speed Spell, whether The End of Storm or Dash Pilfer…"
Aki draws her two cards before revealing one. "I will normal summon the Tuner Night Rose Knight!"
A knight clad in dark armor covered with roses and thorns.
Night Rose Knight: 1000/1000 (3) Tuner
"Night Rose Knight's effect – when this monster is normal summoned, I can special summon a level 4 or lower Plant monster from my hand." She reveals her monster as a little girl with white hair. She carries a scepter along with the scent of jasmine. "Come forth, Aromage Jasmine."
Jasmine: 100/1900 (2)
"Jasmine? Aromage?" Lua blinks at seeing a card used by Aki he never had before.
"Next, I will activate the Speed Spell – Half Seize! This card will allow me to take your monster's attack points, cut it in half, and add it to my life points." As her magic activates, Thunder Unicorn neighs in exhaustion as its power is sapped away.
Aki: 2900
"AND, Jasmine's effect activates; when I gain life points, Jasmine allows me to draw a card!" She draws her card, smiling before adding it to her hand. "Since my life points are higher than yours, Jasmine allows me to Normal Summon Revival Rose!" Next to appear is a series of red roses with eyes focused on her opponent.
Revival Roses: 1300/1300 (4)
"I'll tune Revival Roses with Night Rose Knight!" Night Rose Knight slashes the air three times, forming three rings as a result. After exploding into pieces, the rings pass by Revival Roses. "Armored knight of blazing petals, bring victory to the dawning forest! Synchro Summon!"
From the light of Synchro, a flurry of red petals scatter across the field. Stepping into focus is the glorious Synchro Monster Aki summoned; he is a knight adorned in crimson armor, a bleach-white cape flowing from behind his back. His cyan hair shows that he is Night Rose Knight all grown up. He draws his longsword, swiping across the air with enough force to form blazing sparks that take the form of rose petals. "Bloom your sword, Dawn Rose Knight!"
Dawn Rose Knight: 2400/2000 (7)
At that moment, Sherry reenters the stadium dusting her hands off. Left outside are the psychic haters, contorted into a bloody pile of unconscious bodies. She sees the ruddy knight enter the scene, her eyebrows lifting with interest. "Oh?"
"Dawn Rose Knight's effect; when this monster is special summoned, I can special summon one Plant monster from my graveyard." Dawn Rose Knight holds his hand out to summon a budding flower. It grows to become a monster used earlier in the duel; Lonefire Blossom. "And, Lonefire Blossom's effect; I'll tribute her to special summon from my deck another Plant monster."
The flower blooms, turning into another lady mage. This one is blue and is accompanied by the scent of rosemary. "Aromage Rosemary!"
Rosemary: 1800/700 (4)
Aki spins her D-Wheel around in a back turn, a move that vastly impresses Yusei. "Battle! Dawn Rose Knight, attack Thunder Unicorn!" The plant knight eyes the unicorn, who stares back. He moves forward and slashes, crossing the horse. After a few seconds, the beast's head is lopped off.
Andre: 200
"Yes!" Lua shouts when he sees Aki about to win.
"Now all she has to do is finish him off," says Bruno while smiling.
"This is your loss. Rosemary!" Rosemary raises her scepter until a portal above opens up. "Eh?"
"Sorry about that, but I'm not going down that quick. Not when I have Dimension Equilibrium." From the portal gallops Thunder Unicorn. It lands before Andre, eyeing the rose duelist driving backward. "When my monster is destroyed by battle, I can end the Battle Phase and revive my monster. And, your monster that destroyed it is banished in the process!"
Dawn Rose Knight is inexplicably pulled into the wormhole, disappearing into nothing. "Dawn Rose Knight!"
As Aki corrects herself and ends her turn, Jean grits against his teeth. "We've underestimated her. In the time since the Fortune Cup, she's completely reworked her deck."
Andre passes by the Duel Pit, spotting a pit board that says 'Don't Hold Back,' telling him what he needs to do.
"… got it."
Andre draws for his turn and immediately plays it. "Speed Spell – Accel Draw! This allows me to draw two cards if I have max Speed Counters and you don't."
He looks at the two new cards as a plan forms. "Speed Spell – Speed Energy!"
Energy brims throughout the blue unicorn. "This card allows me to empower Thunder Unicorn by 200 for every Speed Counter I possess."
"2-200?!" Lua proceeds to counter.
"That's 2400 attack points for his monster, more than enough to destroy Rosemary," Luca says, saving Lua the trouble.
"And with that much power, Aki will lose 2800 life points! Putting her at just 100!" says Crow in realization.
Unicorn: 4600
"This is the end for you – Battle!" Thunder Unicorn neighs before it charges for Rosemary, being the only monster in attack mode.
"Trap card open!" Aki's facedown reveals itself. "Holy Javelin!"
A powerful, enchanted javelin fires from her trap, impaling Thunder Unicorn. It doesn't hurt the enchanted horse, but a pink beam shoots back at Aki. Her life points rise as well. "It raises my life points by the strength of an attacking monster!"
Aki: 7500
"7500 life points?!" Andre shouts in shock.
"Damn it!" Breo slams his fists into the table. "She could have used that before, but waited until now! Because if that happens…"
"Her monsters will respond," Jean says to finish the realization.
"Jasmine's effect allows me to draw!" She draws her card thanks to Jasmine's power. Next up, Rosemary's power. "And Rosemary? She allows me to switch your monster to defense mode!"
Thunder Unicorn sniffs the lovely rosemary scent before bowing its head. "And since it's too late to switch, I have to end my battle phase."
Aki shifts her head with a smile. But then, she notices the last two cards in his hand being set on the field. One must be The End of Storm, but why set it? It's a question she contemplates as her turn begins. 'Wait a second… he's going to pass that card over to his partner. He must know he can't win, so he's setting up.'
Aki draws for her turn, before coming up with an idea. 'Let's see… it will be risky, but I can get rid of one of those cards at least.'
"I summon Seed of Flame." From Aki's field, a monster rises like a possessed weed. Its head bursts into flames.
Seed of Flame: 1600/1200 (3)
"Next, I play the Speed Spell – High Speed Crash!" She reveals another Speed Spell, this one being one Yusei used before. "If I have 2 or more counters, I can destroy one card I control and one card you control. And I think I'll aim for that card!"
Seed of Flame rushes forward comically, before diving at the left facedown on Andre's field. It explodes on contact, and the hidden card is revealed to be The End of Storm.
"Yes! She destroyed The End of Storm!" Crow cheers with a grin.
'Gotcha…' "Magic Charge, activate!" Andre reveals his last trick, a trap card. "When a card I control is destroyed by your card effect, both players will take 2000 points of damage!"
"What?!" A crystal forms before the two of them. It charges with magical energy, before detonating. Andre cries out along with Aki.
Aki: 5500 (SC8)
Andre: 0000 (SC12)

Lightz: And now, we take a pause this moment. In the next chapter, Aki will face Breo. How it ends will be a surprise. But at the end of it, Yusei will step in and finish this up.
