Chapter 34 – World Riding Duel Grand Prix Preliminaries Part 3
Yusei vs Jean
As the Preliminaries proceed, over in a splendid household on a widescreen television set, the duel between Team 5D's and Team Unicorn is shown. A large party of folks gathered to watch, eating snacks and discussing what they would have done in their position.
Amongst the partygoers is the orchestrator Asuka Yuuki. She eats a bagel with lox on it with a pleased grin seeing Aki has defeated Andre. "Way to go, Izayoi. You're becoming an amazing woman."
"Is that the girl you told me about?" asks a voice who comes up behind her with a hug.
"Yup, that's her, sweetie," she says, leaning back to kiss Judai on the lips as a welcome.
"She doesn't seem so scary."
"I never said that. Others did." Asuka is released allowing him to grab some fried shrimp on a tray. Once he returns she finishes, saying, "I knew about her situation and tried to reach her. But by then, she was already in the hands of that movement."
"Gee, that sucked." He takes a bite of shrimp. "At least you tried. I'm surprised you weren't scared."
Asuka gives a not-so-serious glare. "Really? At her age, I was already sealed in a book, brainwashed by a cult, and possessed by your dragon ex-girlfriend. Nothing fazes us anymore."
"That reminds me; how is Yubel?"
"She's good. Misses you…" Her eyes glow teal for a brief second. "Along with the kids."
Judai laughs a bit, scratching the back of his head. "Sorry. I guess I should slow down again."
"Well, at least you're here now…" Asuka returns her eyes to the television and sees Voltic Bicorn appearing for the first time. "What were you doing this time? A lost spirit went berserk?"
"You know that guy there?" Judai points to the screen as soon as it shows Team 5D's at the duel pit. She spots Yusei shown prominently. "Yugi and I have been giving lessons."
"Lessons?"
Back To Action…
"Well, it looks like we're the last fighters," Jean says as he speeds close to Yusei. "It stinks that Andre and you couldn't finish your duel."
"That's where this whole battle began, isn't it?" asks Yusei, thinking back to his remark prior.
"That's how you win as a team, Yusei."
The Head Signer nods in acknowledgment. "You guys are amazing. To think a team strategy was this deep and important… I'm glad we got to face you."
This surprises the leader of Team Unicorn. 'Is he enjoying this? Despite our tricks and traps?'
Yusei: 4000 SC11
Jean: 4000 SC8
'You're an interesting fellow… no matter what, I have to win. For the team!' "My turn!"
Jean draws his first card and immediately goes to work as Speed Counters are added to their score. "I summon Tricorn Rhino!"
A hefty behemoth with triple horns forms on the field, racing next to Thunder Unicorn.
Tricorn Rhino: 1800/1700 (4)
"Thunder Unicorn's effect; Stardust Dragon loses attack for every Beast monster on the field other than itself!" Thunder Unicorn fires its beam at Stardust, hitting it hard.
Stardust: 2000
Tricorn Rhino's effect; by equipping it with a Beast Synchro I control, it allows that monster to attack twice." The rhino roars before turning into a phantom, unionizing with the unicorn.
"Thunder Unicorn, attack Stardust Dragon!" His monster raises its horn to slice through the dragon.
"Trap card open; Scrap Metal Scarecrow!" His trap opens up, causing a scarecrow to block the blow. "Once per turn, I can negate an attack. And the card resets itself."
"Tricorn Rhino's effect; the equipped Beast can attack twice per turn! Thunder Spear!" Thunder Unicorn races for Stardust, who gets pierced by the horn.
Yusei: 3800
Jean smirks. 'Thanks to Breo, we have memorized your strategies. It was predicted you'd stall me. A Beast Beatdown deck is your natural weakness.' "Tricorn Rhino's other effect; I can draw a card." Jean draws one card before taking another from his hand. "I'll set two cards and end my turn."
"OH NO! YUSEI FUDO IS IN A PICKLE; THE DUEL HAS ALREADY BEGUN, AND HE'S LOST STARDUST DRAGON!"
Yusei ignores the announcer as he calculates what will come next. He will need something different; something to overcome their prediction. If Jean decided to face him last, he must have a deck fitted for defeating him. "Draw!"
As his Speed Counters turn 12, he activates his Speed Spell. "Angel Baton activate! If I have two or more Speed Counters, I can draw two cards and discard one." He pulls his two cards before looking at them, sending one to his grave. "I summon Shield Wing in defense mode!"
A green bird dragon with twin wings is appearing now that it folds into shields.
Shield Wing: 0/900 (2)
"I'll set one card and end my turn."
As Yusei concludes his turn, Jean studies his moves. 'Shield Wing… a monster that protects from destruction by battle twice. He's stalling to prepare for his next turn, so my choice is obvious.'
Jean draws for his turn and smirks. It's time. "I summon Trident Warrior!"
A dark-skinned soldier in green steps forth, wielding a mighty trident.
Trident Warrior: 1800/1200 (4)
"Trident Warrior's effect; I summon a level 3 monster from my hand. Come out, Delta Flyer!" Appearing now is a devilish dragon beating wings and flying near Trident Warrior.
Delta Flyer: 1500/900 (3) Tuner
"Delta Flyer allows me to give one monster I control another level." Trident Warrior shouts out as his level rises to 5. "I'll now tune my level 5 Trident Warrior with my level 3 Tuner Delta Flyer!"
Delta Flyer turns into three rings that pass by the warrior.
"Galloping in the heavens like thunder, going through the pitch black sky, this lightning bolt will strike the Earth and incinerate it! Synchro Summon!" From the light of Synchro appears Jean and Team Unicorn's ace monster; it is a horse wrapped entirely in golden armor. Its azure mane flaps behind its triple magenta horns. Those same horns are also on its legs.
Lightning Tricorn: 2800/2000 (8)
The audience cheers seeing the third corn beast of Team Unicorn. "I see you've brought out your ace. But you won't be able to get to me that way."
"You think so?" He laughs before pressing a button. "Trap card open; Roaring Earth!"
The ground rises for the two monsters as they prepare for an assault. "Now, my Beast monsters can deliver piercing damage. But to put the icing on the cake? Dust Tornado!"
Jean's second trap opens up, and a tornado blows away Scrap Metal Scarecrow. "Battle!"
Crow tenses up. "This is bad! Now Yusei will take damage with each attack! He'll lose if he takes all three attacks!"
Aki holds her hands in worry. "… Yusei…"
"Lightning Tricorn, attack Shield Wing!" The triple-spear unicorn neighs before galloping into Shield Wing. Its two side horns curve to join with the center.
"I discard Stronghold Guardian from my hand!" Yusei takes a monster from his hand and sends it to the grave. "This gives my monster an additional 1500 defense points until the end phase!"
A powerful fortress forms around Shield Wing, allowing it to block the Tricorn's horns. However, Yusei still receives damage.
Yusei: 3400
Jean ends his Battle Phase, knowing Yusei stopped him so easily. He sets a card before ending his turn. Meanwhile, Yusei looks at his life points and his field. He can do this. He just needs one card.
Taking a deep breath, he draws his card.
And smirks. "I summon Junk Synchron!" His monster appears as the expertly useful Tuner. "Junk Synchron allows me to special summon Tuning Supporter in the graveyard!"
"Tuning Supporter?" Breo asks in surprise.
"He discarded it with Angel Baton," Andre tells him.
Tuning Supporter rises from a hole Junk Synchron made, before landing next to Shield Wing. "Next, I use the effect of Card Breaker in my hand." He reveals his card and Roaring Earth cracks. "By destroying one face-up Magic or Trap on the field, I can special summon this monster."
From the cracks of the card appears a muscular shaman wielding a hammer made of a fist.
Card Breaker: 100/900 (2)
"I'll be tuning my four monsters together!"All three non-tuners fly up as Junk Synchron pulls his string. Three rings pass through the three monsters, turning them into five stars. "Clustering fighting souls shall awaken the wicked god of anger! Become the path the light shines upon – Synchro Summon!"
From the light of Synchro appears a new monster; a super robot ready for war with four arms. This devil god of a machine stands tall as steam explodes out of its joints. "Obliterate, Junk Destroyer!"
Junk Destroyer: 2600/2500 (8)
"Tuning Supporter's effect; I can draw one card if it's used as a Synchro Summon." Yusei pulls his card and adds it to his hand. "And now, Junk Destroyer's effect; for every non-tuner used in its Synchro Summon, I can destroy a card you control."
A wave of aquatic energy forms and explodes outward from behind the destroyer as JAM Project sings in the background. "Tidal Energy!" The waves wash away most of Jean's field, removing Tricorn Rhino, Lightning Tricorn, and Thunder Unicorn.
"I had a feeling Tricorn Rhino would protect your monster so I targeted both it and Thunder Unicorn. Now, Junk Destroyer, direct attack!" The four fists of the machine warrior clench and glow red. "Destroy Knuckle!"
As it punches four times, Jean presses a button. "Reanimation Wave activate!" A barrier forms to block the attack.
Jean: 2700
"Your attack power is cut in half, and I revive Lightning Tricorn!" He brings back his lightning monster.
Seeing its return, Yusei makes a choice. He can get rid of it, or he can prepare for the next turn. The smart decision here… "Speed World 2's effect; I'll remove 7 counters and draw one card."
His counters reduce to 5 as Yusei draws, before immediately setting it and another card. "Turn end."
Watching the duel, Andre narrows his eyes with worry. "Yusei is doing far too well against Jean."
"Don't worry. Jean's got this. Yusei's strongest monster won't make a difference, and Jean still has an ace up his sleeve."
"Draw!" Jean looks at his card. "I activate Accel Draw!" Drawing two cards, he snickers before setting one of them. "Next, I activate Speed World 2's effect!"
From the horn of Jean's machine, lightning fires at Junk Destroyer at the machine warrior with the power of 10 Speed Counters. It shatters the destroyer's body, leaving nothing to protect Yusei. "Lightning Tricorn, direct attack!"
The monster aims its horns at Yusei, stomping on the non-air it stands upon. As it does, Yusei activates his trap. "Trap card open; Harmony Crystal."
A hole forms below as Junk Destroyer and Card Breaker disappear into the void. Stardust Dragon rises from it, appearing to protect Yusei. A shockwave then pulverizes Jean.
Jean: 1450
"At this point, they're just slowly chipping away at each other," says Aki while watching.
"I'll put that back into the grave! Lightning Tricorn, attack!"
"Trap card open; Attack Invulnerability!" Yusei's next trap card blocks Jean's assault, but even then he still receives a blow to his life points.
Yusei: 3100
"You and your tricks…" Jean takes two of his cards and sets them.
With his turn beginning, Yusei looks at his hand thinking of a way to get around him. One card in his hand can help, but he should wait until the time is ready. Plus, he wants to save it as a surprise for them.
Drawing his next card, Yusei immediately sets it and concludes his turn.
Jean draws for his turn, eyeing that facedown. 'Hmm…' "I activate Multi-Corn Comeback."
A familiar facedown flips over, and Lightning Tricorn gains a power boost. "Tricorn will gain 800 attack points! And, you cannot activate card effects until the end of the Damage Step when it attacks!"
Lightning Tricorn: 3600
Yusei doesn't look worried. He looks as if he's waiting for this.
"I'll also activate Superficial Peace." Jean's second trap card opens up and empowers the unicorn. "Until the end of the turn, neither of us can activate Magic or Trap cards anymore. And, neither player's monsters can be destroyed by battle."
His monster roars before it races for Stardust. "Lightning Spear!" Lightning Tricorn strikes Stardust, rocking Yusei's life points.
Yusei: 2000
"After that, I can destroy one card you control facedown and I can draw one card." Lightning shoots from the center horn and shatters Yusei's trap. It is revealed to be Cosmic Blast. "I thought so."
Bruno grips his hands. "He's starting to read all of Yusei's plays now."
"He just needs one good hit…" Aki says while staring at the duel playing out.
Jean takes the card he drew and sets it. "There's nothing you can do now, Yusei. We have access to your strategies. Nothing you do can surprise us. Turn end."
Yusei grits his teeth as he tries to think of a way out of this. Nothing he does will matter if he can't turn the tide. He already used Junk Destroyer, and he currently lacks access to Satellite Synchron. But knowing Jean, he has contingencies against that ace in the hole. What can he do?
"Yusei!" His ears perk up when he hears someone in the 5D's duel pit. Over with the others, Jack is on his feet thanks to the three girls helping him.
"Jack!" Crow shouts, seeing his big bro on his feet.
"Yusei! How long do you plan on showing me this pathetic duel of fear?!" he screams, ignoring the pain from his crash.
As Yusei passes by, he turns his eyes to the others. "And you guys! You better not give up. It may look hopeless, but it isn't! If you can't believe in yourself, then believe in him!"
The last-wheeler looks back at his friends, breathing in as he thinks of a way to fight back. Thinking about it, Yusei has to admit that Unicorn is right. They were taken off guard by Aki, but they've predicted him and Jack from the start. If he is to win, he needs to do that. It is the only thing they won't expect of him.
"It's my turn!" Yusei draws for his turn and sees a Speed Spell. It's perfect right now because he has something to use it with. "Oi, Jean."
"Huh?"
"You guys have done pretty well against us. I never thought I'd be pushed this far. And for that, I thank you."
Taken back again, Jean narrows his eyes as he asks, "And what's that supposed to mean? You're not going to say you can defeat me now, are you?"
"I'm saying that you helped me realize something; I shouldn't be afraid of thinking outside the box. Aki did it and she's the reason we're still in this duel." He faces forward, driving past Jean. "So, by that logic, I will use what I learned from them to the fullest! I summon Synchron Explorer!"
A red, round machine appears on the field, raising its hands.
Synchron Explorer: 0/700 (2)
"Explorer's effect allows me to special summon one Tuner in my graveyard by negating its effects." From the center of the circle, Junk Synchron jumps out. It then pulls the cord, performing a tuning. "I'll tune my level 2 Synchron Explorer with my level 3 Junk Synchron!"
The explorer enters the three rings, turning into two stars. From the light of Synchro, Junk Warrior emerges with a powerful punch. "Appear, Junk Warrior!"
"Junk Warrior?" Jean scuffs seeing the monster. "It's useless. Neither of us has any level 2 or lower monsters for it to gain power from."
"No… you're right. But that is why I have this here." He reveals the Speed Spell he drew.
That immediately raises eyelids. "Speed Fusion!?"
"Speed Fusion?!" Even his team is flabbergasted.
'Ahead of us in this tournament, there are opponents with cards that seal Synchro Monsters. Ever since my first encounter, I have been looking for ways to surpass them.' Yusei thinks back to his duel with Dark Glass. 'I saw one alternative when I dueled him, but I currently lack the means of utilizing that method. I thought I had nothing left… until I met them.'
From here, he remembers his duel with Paradox alongside Yugi and Judai.
"Yuuki. Muto. I've been meaning to ask you two for a favor."
"Nah, it's alright, Yusei. Don't call me by my last name. It makes me feel like a fossil."
"I am a fossil, so go right ahead."
"Now to show off what I've learned! "I activate Speed Fusion!" He inserts the magic card, and his two monsters glow. "By sending the requirements from my field or hand to the graveyard, I can perform a Fusion Summon!"
Stardust Dragon and Junk Warrior come together, merging in a swirling surge of energy. "When the new force merges with the shining star, the atmospheric knight shall descend – Fusion Summon!"
Emerging into reality is a dragonman warrior. This person adorned in azure and yellow armor and a silver helmet showing off orange hair and an orange horn flaps both wings before swiping a javelin lance in the air. "Come forth, Hadouryuukishi ~ Drago-Equiste!"
Drago-Equiste: 3200/2000 (10)
"F-Fusion Summon?!" Aki says in surprise.
"Wait a second… when the hell did he get that?!" Jack asks in shock.
"WHAT A SURPRISE! YUSEI FUDO'S ACE MOVE WASN'T A SYNCHRO SUMMON! BUT A FUSION BUILT OFF IT!"
Jean looks back in utter surprise. 'What the hell is this!? There was no data on Yusei using Fusions!'
"Drago-Equiste, attack Lightning Tricorn! Spiral Javelin!" The dragon knight twirls its weapon, before throwing it directly at the sparkling yellow unicorn. As it shatters to pieces, Jean's life drops down to 1050.
Having witnessed it all, Andre is shaken. "This is different. We weren't expecting this. And what effects does this monster have?!"
Jean is shaking in his seat. He needs something to get over that. Luckily, he has a plan. "Lightning Tricorn's effect; during the turn it is destroyed, I can special summon a Voltic Bicorn from my deck. Come out!"
The dual-horned unicorn returns to the field.
Seeing it, Yusei thinks about what to do against that. Even if he destroys it, he will only lose cards. But, he can't let Jean get a comeback after coming this far. "Speed World 2's effect; by reducing my Speed Counters by 7, I can draw an additional time."
Yusei draws again, giving him two cards in hand now. Nodding, he sets the drawn card face down and ends his turn. 'He's shaken… he thought he had a plan, but now that I have a new monster his strategy won't hold.'
"I won't let it end for me. We've come too far to lose!" Jean draws a card and adds it to his hand before pulling another card from it. "I summon Key Mouse."
Appearing now is a minuscule little vermin landing on top of the bicorn.
Key Mouse: 100/100 (1) Tuner
"A tuner?"
"I'll tune my level 7 Voltic Bicorn with my level 1 Tuner Key Mouse!" The mouse inserts a key into its lock around its neck, causing the rodent to turn into a single ring. It passes by the horse for a level 8 Synchro. "Synchro Summon!"
From the light of Synchro, a powerhouse of a monster appears. This ogre-like beast with dark-purple skin and rippling, muscular arms and heavy legs lands with a heavy thud. It's clad in ornate, golden jewelry and necklaces, each with intricate markings and symbols on it, as well as various precious stones of the earth while sporting a particularly impressive, gold and ivory-white mace with the head of Vajra as its sphere. Its head is that of a bull elephant with long, crescent tusks and ruddy brown eyes, wearing a helmet of stone atop its brow that matches the rock pauldrons on its shoulders. "Turn all on its head, Garnecia Megafantis!"
Garnecia Megafantis: 3000/2600 (8)
Yusei looks back at the monster. "Garnecia Megafantis?"
"You weren't the only one with an ace up their sleeve, Yusei Fudo." Jean points at his elephant monster. "Garnecia Megafantis was a monster I decided to save for a truly impressive opponent. You won that right by lasting this long."
Megafantis raises its mace high in the air. With a pound of the earth, the ground shakes. "Upon summon, Megafantis has a nice little trick." Jean laughs a little. "I advise you to clench your teeth…"
Megafantis pounds the earth once more, causing the ground… no. The entire Earth flips over. Multi-Corn Comeback sets itself, Yusei's facedown opens up revealing itself to be Stardust Flash, and Drago-Equiste turns into a sideways card. Jean's card flips over too, revealed to be a card called Triple Horn Pierce. "Upon Synchro Summon, Megafantis flips all other cards. Facedown cards become face-up, and vice-versa! Any card that misses timing is sent to the graveyard."
"Then, Stardust Flash's effect." Using his trap card, Stardust Dragon rises from the graveyard in attack position.
"Oh? Summoning Stardust in attack mode to lure me away from your dragon knight?" Jean says as he realizes what Yusei is planning. "But, Megafantis has another effect; it delivers double-piercing damage!"
"Double?!"
Aki's eyes widen. "That monster has 3000 attack points. If it attacks Drago-Equiste's 2000 defense, Yusei will take 2000 points of damage!"
"He's going to lose!" Bruno says in shock.
"Yusei…"
"This is the end of this long-routed duel!" Jean shouts as he prepares to enter the Battle Phase.
"Before you leave the Main Phase, I activate the effect of Effect Veiler in my hand." Yusei discards a monster, causing an angel to appear before him. She releases a wind at Megafantis. "I missed timing when it was summoned, but I can still stop it now. Effect Veiler negates the effect of one monster you control."
"What?!" Jean watches as Megafantis loses its power.
The crowd cheers at the constant back and forth.
"Then, I'll go after Stardust Dragon as you wish! Garnecia Megafantis, attack!" His monster raises its mace before kicking its powerful legs into a charge. "Earthquake Smash!"
The mace shatters Stardust to pieces, rocking Yusei who is sad to see his monster disappear.
Yusei: 1500
"I will also banish Triple Horn Pierce in my graveyard!" His trap reveals itself as a horn shoots out and pierces Yusei. "When a Beast Synchro I control destroys a monster by battle, you will receive half the attack of the monster destroyed."
Yusei: 250
"Yusei!" Crow shouts seeing how far Yusei has fallen. They're just below the safety line. One Speed Spell and four counters, and they'll lose.
"I'll set one card and end my turn." His last card appears behind the elephant before it passes to Yusei.
"No cards in hand. No face-downs. No other monster…" Yusei realizes he can destroy Megafantis with Drago-Equiste, but Multi-Corn Comeback can easily flip over and give it the strength to destroy his dragon knight. His hope lies within this final card.
He draws his card, revealing the magic card as just what he needs. "Speed Spell – Overspeed activates." His Speed Counters become zero.
"By reducing my Speed Counters to zero if I had four or more, I can add 1 Monster and 1 Magic or Trap card from my graveyard to my hand." He takes out Scrap Metal Scarecrow and Junk Synchron. "However, I cannot add any Speed Counters to my hand until the end of my turn."
Jean eyes Yusei as he drops his speed up close to him. "What are you up to?"
"The final turn." The first thing Yusei does is Flip Summon Drago-Equiste in attack mode. After that, he summons Junk Synchron, who uses his effect to bring back Tuning Supporter.
Junk Synchron pulls the string one final time, performing a Synchro Summon with Tuning Supporter. From the light of Synchro appears a massive arm. "Come out, Arms Aid!"
Arms Aid: 1800/1200 (4)
"Arms Aid?" Jean then realizes what Yusei is attempting. But, he has a plan for that. 'He wants to empower Drago-Equiste with Arms Aid to overcome the power boost from Multi-Corn Comeback… but, I have a surprise for him.'
"I'll equip Drago-Equiste with Arms Aid." The armored arm attaches to the right arm of the dragon knight.
Drago-Equiste: 4200
"Battle! Drago-Equiste, attack Megafantis! Power Gear Javelin!" His monster throws the javelin at Megafantis, who gets pierced through the stomach. As it does, Yusei notices that Jean has not activated his facedown. Instead, his monster is destroyed.
As Team 5D's cheers knowing that Yusei has won, Jean simply activates his trap card. "Trap open; Return Damage!"
Lightning colored light-blue forms in the skies. "You almost got me, but Arms Aid's effect will have to wait to resolve after the Damage Step. This card will take all the battle damage I would have taken and redirect it to you as effect damage!"
Everyone gasps seeing the card effect about to resolve. If it goes through, Yusei loses. And he has no facedowns that can stop it! So naturally, his team shouts his name.
"You put up a good fight, Yusei, but the team wins!" The lightning bolt fires.
"…"
The electricity is stopped by a barrier formed over the dragon knight, causing the effect to collect in its hands. "Is that what you think?"
"… eh?"
"Drago-Equiste's effect; whenever I would take effect damage while this card is in face-up attack mode, you will receive that damage instead!" The dragon knight roars as it fires the ball of lightning upon Jean. He cries out as his D-Wheel gets bombarded.
Jean: 0000
Winner: Team 5D's
With his defeat, his machine exhausts smoke before he slows down. Despite everything he's done, and everything his team has performed, they've lost.
"WHAT AN UPSET! AFTER A SHAKY FIRST WHEEL LOSS, TEAM 5D'S PULLS THROUGH AND COMES BACK FROM BEHIND WITH A WIN! FROM SO MANY TWISTS AND TURNS, THE WINNERS ARE RACERS JACK ATLAS, AKI IZAYOI, AND YUSEI FUDO OF TEAM 5D'S!"
Upon returning to the pit, Yusei dismounts his vehicle. His helmet is pulled off, and perspiration is flung left and right as the racer shakes his head in victorious content. He opens his eyes and catches his friends approaching him, Lua and Luca hugging him with joy. Aki moves in and hugs him too, unable to contain herself.
Jean regroups with Team Unicorn, removing his helmet. Breo and Andre join up with him, solemn and graceful despite their loss. He gets up and approaches Yusei, the latter of whom notices him and walks to the duelist with a scowl.
The two come face to face, close enough they can smell the others' sweat. "We performed every legal trick we could think of to win this tournament. I was so close to victory, and yet we failed in the end… all the hard work Andre and Breo received, wasted…"
"Oh, quit acting cool." Andre comes up to his team leader. "A loss is a loss."
"It's been a while since you've faced anyone you've wanted to defeat that badly. Isn't that right?" This is from Breo, who pats his shoulder.
A smile slowly creeps up his face. "Yeah… I can't lie about that." Jean promotes a friendly glare at Yusei. "Thank you, Yusei Fudo. You've reawoken a drive in my heart I once thought gone."
Aki walks forth, joining up with Yusei to say, "Andre, Breo, Jean… we've learned something important from you too."
"She's right. We still have yet to know what it means to duel as a team." Yusei nods. "But now we do. If we meet again later in the tournament, know that you won't be seeing the same duelists."
"Not if, when. We only need two wins out of three." Jean takes Yusei's hand and shakes it. "See you guys in the finals."
Andre and Breo step in and throw their hands on top. Aki adds hers below with Yusei. A third hand is added to the pile, this being Jack's. "For sure."
All members of the crowd go wild in the face of such sportsmanship. Having seen enough, Sherry gets up to leave. She passes by Aki's parents, who both are so proud of their daughter's accomplishments. "Congratulations… Izayoi."
Unbeknownst to both, Saeko has already left.

Over with the three emperors, Luciano cackles madly. From their sights, the Circuit is shown gaining some streaks of light. "Good work, bumpkins! Each victory you make brings us closer to our goal!"
"It looks like the Signers are the best energy generators after all…" Jose speaks after his careful observation. That is when he notices something else. "Where is Placido?"
"Dunno. What am I, his keeper?"
Lightz: And that ends this long, outdrawn duel. There are traces taken from the actual match, but I was pretty satisfied implementing them. It made for a good back-and-forth between Yusei and Jean. Next time, we meet Team Catastrophe. And then… the Ghost Horde rampage.
