Chapter 36 – The Ghost Assault – Bruno's Secret
Elsewhere throughout the city, the red-hot duels of the WRGP Preliminaries proceed as planned. The match is Team Byakko vs Team Lightning, one themed off the white tiger of Shino and Wu-Xing legend and the other on lightning bolts. As the duel progresses, the Diablo army invades.
They puncture through the glass protection, four of them surrounding the duelist from Team Byakko. He shouts, "Who the hell are you guys!?"
"We're entering this duel," one of them speaks, its robotic AI tone notable.
"As if! This is a-"
Battle Royal Mode – Engage
"Battle what? No one told me about this!" Their D-Wheels all change, enabling the Diablo group to enter the duel. As soon as they do, the infinity symbol appears below them, enabling actual damage. And two of them destroy the Byakko rider.
Up above, Placido watches his metal mercenaries go to work with laughter. He spots several smoke clouds coming from the crashes made upon the city. "That's right, my Diablo army. With the Battle Royal Mode I secretly installed in all participants, the WRGP Preliminaries will become duels of life or limb. If any of you value your lives, you will draw out the Circuit with all of your worth!"

Nicholas stares at Jack in shock. He still can't believe he's still alive after that. He even asks, "Why?"
"Simple." Jack points aggressively at him. "You aren't worth dueling. And you aren't worth dying either."
Sherry rushes into the arena with determined eyes, hoisting Nicholas up by the collar. "You! Where did you get that card?!"
Nicholas is too flabbergasted by his near-death experience and now this dangerous blond threatening him to make a proper answer. Angry, her hands pilfer his deck and slide out the trap card Doom's Ray. But as she stares at it, the image and text disappear.
The announcer quickly makes an announcement. "We have just received urgent news. There appears to be a large amount of crashes occurring in the preliminary matches being held on the highway!"
The screenshots duels happening all over the city, are currently being sabotaged by the Diablo army. As everyone is ordered to remain within the stadium, members of Team 5D's actively leave the stadium to meet up with Mikage and Ushio.
Both of them are working hard to look into the cause. "Battle Royal Mode? I didn't hear about that."
"Wait… I've confirmed an identifier signal…" speaks someone on the other end of a radio Ushio holds. "… there's so many!"
"Can we get a visual?" asks Yusei, as he, Jack, and Bruno are there with them.
Ushio turns on the monitor of his Security vehicle. It provides a visual of Neo Domino City, and a familiar figure to them.
"Ghost!"
Yusei and Jack look at one another, coming to the same conclusion. "Yusei!" All five look over to see Sherry and Mizoguchi pull up.
"Sherry, Ghost has-"
"I know. We just saw." Sherry looks back at the stadium. "I was hoping to get some evidence from those Catastrophe guys, but this is something else."
"I thought those guys were after us. But this looks like they're trying to destroy the tournament," Bruno says with realization.
"It doesn't make sense. Why would Yliaster be disrupting their own tournament?" Yusei shakes his head to override these thoughts. "It doesn't matter why. They're doing this, so we have to stop them. Let's tear down these Duels of Darkness they've set up."
"How do you plan on doing that?" asks Mizoguchi.
"Ghosts are robots, so someone must be controlling them. Someone close by," he tells him and everyone else. "We'll lure that person out."
Before they head out, Ushio warns that the highway system has been overridden into Battle Royal Mode. That means anyone can attack anyone. Bruno is worried even more since this means numbers will determine victory. Even worse, Ghost can cause actual damage.
"Even so, we can't sit back and do nothing," is Yusei's answer. "No sloppy dueling."
"Where's the fun in that?" Jack declares with stern eyes. "Running amok without holding back; it reminds me of the good old days."
"Let's go! I won't let the peace we took back get stolen by Yliaster again!"
Yusei boards his machine and drives off with Jack. Sherry and Mizoguchi follow after, along with Kazuma and the Duel Chasers who have already left. Bruno gives pursuit in his kiddy motorcycle.
Elsewhere…
With the three Emperors or one, in this case, he is watching the Circuit repairing itself. Streaks of light appear on the symbol they're crafting. Jose narrows his eyes wondering how this is happening.
"It's coming along greatly, isn't it?" Luciano poofs into existence in his seat. "Too bad we need to rely on those accursed Synchro monsters used by D-Wheelers."
"To complete this Circuit we must harness the power of Momentum. That is why we are taking action now before humans realize Momentum's true potential."
"It's pretty big too. About as big as this whole city. Sucks for them." Luciano laughs. "Placido's earning real brownie points here."
"Placido?" He produces monitors showing him the chaos abending upon Neo Domino City.
"Placido got fed up with waiting and decided to send his troops out."
While Luciano is entertained, Jose is pissed. 'Once again, he's doing things on his own to repair his damaged pride…'
Back to Action…
"Ally of Justice Nullifier, attack directly!" One of the Diablos attacks a female duelist from Team White Wind.
As she screams, a scarecrow flies in blocking the attack. She looks around for her savior, and all of the duelists spot Yusei with Mizoguchi and Sherry at his left and right respectively. He pulls up beside the White Wind duelist, saying, "Let us handle this."
She pulls out of this, allowing the trio to go full throttle.
Yusei uses Junk Synchron to revive the Swift Scarecrow he sent and then special summons Mirror Ladybug. Its effect allows him to give it more level stars for each monster he controls. This gives him eight stars. "I'll tune my three monsters together!"
From the light of Synchro, his ace pops up, Stardust Dragon. The cosmic dragon roars before wiping out Nullifer. The controlling Ghost rider loses and explodes.
Sherry goes next. She summons Ogier to the field and uses his effect to send Ricciardetto to the graveyard. With his effect, she summons the Courageous Crimson Chevalier Bradamante before tuning them together. "Come out, Captain Oliver!"
Her monster appears on the field with twin swords before moving in. "I'll equip Oliver with Roland from my hand!"
His sword turns into fire, allowing him to destroy Light Gazer. Oliver then destroys the Diablo with a direct attack.
Mizoguchi comes forth with his turn. He summons the Legendary Six Warmen – Kizan. After that, he brings forth the Grandmaster, and then the Great Shogun Shien. "Battle!"
All three of his samurai slice and dice the opposing Ally of Justice machines before finishing off the Diablo controlling them.
Elsewhere in the city, Jack and Duel Chaser Kazuma leap onto the battlefield. Kazuma activates Battle Eater, protecting a duelist from being taken down.
"Don't be so careless!"
"Who do you think I got it from?" he jokes, allowing Jack to focus.
"Leave it to me." Jack summons Vice Berserker, before using Trap Eater to devour a DNA Transplant. He then performs a Synchro Summon to bust out Red Daemon's Dragon. Using Vice Berserker's power, it extinguishes Clausolas.
From the main stadium, Crow watches with a sigh as the monitor shows his friends putting up a fight.
"I can't believe I have to just sit here."
"It can't be helped, Crow," says Lua before standing between him and his D-Wheel.
"Like I can let it b-GAH!" He moves his shoulder, and it acts up as expected.
"See? Even if you went out you'd only be a burden," Luca tells him.
"And here I was wondering what was going on."
The three flinch at the sound of a new voice. Stepping into the duel pit with a callous expression, to his surprise, is Barbara. "How is it, Crow?"
"Barbara?!"
"Who?" Lua turns to Luca, who shrugs.
"What are you doing in Neo Domino City?" asks Crow, adjusting his shoulder to feel less pain.
She pouts. "Isn't it obvious? You promised something and I was waiting to see it, but you got replaced by some teen redhead." Her face looks more content when she looks at his arm. "I guess you got pretty banged up. Sorry."
"Uh, yeah…" he mutters, looking down at her ankle. "But, you're still on house arrest. So-"
"Oh, he called in a favor with Ushio and said I could come see this so long as I remained here or with my chaperone."
"Wait. Who?"

Above Neo Domino City at its highest point, Placido watches his black cloud conjuring chaos lessening. On the monitor in front of his eyes, Diablos are disappearing faster than they should. He angrily grinds against his teeth, realizing what the cause is: Yusei Fudo and his friends.
Before his next train of thought, Jose morphs his monitor and takes over. "What is it? I'm busy right now!"
"Placido! Put an end to this nonsense!"
"Your means are too lax. If we force their hand, the Circuit will be complete by now."
Jose stares with disappointment. "Placido, that's not how Momentum works. Forcing duelists in a life or death situation won't bring forth the perfect Circuit we need for Him."
"Besides, Yusei's butting in, and you have a terrible track record against the Signers-"
"Shut up, Luciano," Jose says, his anger breaching.
"I'm doing things my way. We'll have the Circuit done by tomorrow!" Placido cuts the connection. His mind then turns to one singular thought. One action. One pulse.
Throughout the city, the Diablo army retreats. They leave the duelists they were already harassing. And then, to great worry, they all collect to go after a single point.

Yusei checks his monitor after taking out the last member of a Diablo group the trio were chasing. All three notice that a throng of the Diablo army is going after them. More join in from converging roads.
Battle Royal Mode activates forcefully, and the symbol forms below them. The first Diablo moves in, summoning the Ally of Justice Galadholg. After that, two cards are set.
Mizoguchi goes next, drawing his card. "I summon Mononofu of the Sacred Summit." A grey samurai wearing black armor appears.
Mononofu: 1200/0 (4)
"By normal summoning this monster, I can special summon Shien's Squire." He brings forth one of the squires to land next to the mononofu. He then tunes them together. "When the time of war begins, the legendary general shall protect his ward. Synchro Summon!"
Shi En pops into the field. "Shi En, attack Galadholg!"
The samurai raises his jagged-edge katana and rips through the machine.
Ghost1: 3100
Mizoguchi concludes by setting a card. However, as Sherry begins her turn, two members of the Diablos that are bringing up the rear pull back.
"I summon Noble Knight's Spearholder." Her familiar spear wielder returns, before it taps the non-existent floor with the weapon. "Spearholder's effect; I can target one monster on the field and give it the name Fleur Synchron. That monster also becomes a Tuner."
Spearholder→Fleur Synchron: 800/400 (2) Tuner
"Since I control a level 2 monster, I can special summon this monster in defense mode – come forth, White Steed of the Floral Knights!" Appearing through a gust of pink petals is a white horse adorned with golden armor.
White Steed: 2400/1600 (6)
"I'll tune Spearholder and my White Steed!" Spearholder boards the horse, which gallops faster. The spear-bearing knight stabs the air in front of her, causing two rings to form before her. "Body born from the speed of light, the time for revolution has come; bring victory into my grasp!"
Light explodes around the field as her ace appears. "Synchro Summon – Sparkle, Fleur de Chevalier!"
Sherry then takes a card from her hand. "I'll then equip Fleur de Chevalier with Infernoble Knight Roland from my hand!" The floral knight draws her sword, which becomes engulfed in the bright flames of rebellion.
Fleur: 3200
After making an Akira slide, she commands her monster to attack, releasing a stream of flaming petals that engulf the first Ghost. The fire causes it to explode, one piece of the machine hitting another.
Yusei notes this, realizing something. "Wait… Sherry, are you a Psychic?"
"How nice of you to notice," she says with a smirk before she sets a card.
While this new bit of info surprises him, Yusei returns to focus on the duel. He first discards Bolt Hedgehog for Quick Synchron, before reviving the metal critter. He then special summons Lead Butterfly since Fleur and Shi En are on the field. "I'll tune my level 1 Lead Butterfly and my level 2 Bolt Hedgehog with my level 5 Quick Synchron!"
Five rings pass through the two monsters. "Clustering wishes will evoke to a new horizon. Become the path the light shines upon! Synchro Summon – Dash Onward, Road Warrior!"
Road Warrior returns after a long absence. With its effect, he summons Speed Warrior.
"Battle!" Turning with a slide, Yusei has Speed Warrior clock a robot in the jaw before Road Warrior pulverizes another with Lightning Claw.
Yusei sets a card and ends his turn.
As one of the Diablo draws for their turn, Sherry activates her card. "Synchro Prominence. Each player that controls a Synchro Monster can deal damage to another player."
From their combined might, Fleur, Road, and Shi En take out an extra Diablo and physically destroy two more through Sherry's powers.
Watching them from above, Placido angrily makes a new command. 'You two are in the way…'
Implementing his plan, one of the Diablos sets a card and ends its turn. A second begins, and the first one activates DNA Transplant. "Now, all cards on the field will be considered LIGHT Attribute."
The turn Diablo activates Summon Speeder, using its effect to bring forth Ally of Justice Tractor, a teal and blue machine monster. "While there is a LIGHT Attribute monster on my opponent's field, I can release this card to add two Ally of Justice cards to my hand."
It then picks a monster and summons it, a titanic elephant of metal.
Unknown Crusher: 1200/800 (3)
"I can then special summon these monsters." Two monsters pop onto the field, both being mechanical gateways.
Cosmic Closer: 2400/1200 (8)
"Unknown Crusher, attack." The elephant charges at Shi En, who stabs the behemoth in the skull.
Ghost: 2700
"Unknown Crusher's effect. Your monster will be removed from play." Shi En and the Crusher are gone in a yellow explosion.
"Shi En…"
"Cosmic Closer, direct attack." Both of its other monsters fire blue bolts of energy at Mizoguchi, taking him out of the fight. His machine gives out and he slides to the side.
"Mizoguchi!"
The Diablo continue their pursuit. A new one begins its turn. "I summon Ally Bomb."
Ally Bomb: 400/0 (2)
Sherry notes what it plans to do and looks around. "Fleur de Chevalier, do it!"
Fleur de Chevalier draws her sword and throws it, shattering the glass to their left five meters ahead. At that moment Ally Bomb hits Fleur, who destroys it with a punch. "Yusei, use that to escape! They're after you!"
"Ally Bomb's effect!" The bomb detonates, blowing up her Synchro and Speed Warrior.
Yusei looks at the opening, realizing it won't lead to a duel lane. He prepares to jump, but one of the Ghosts brushes against him, pushing Yusei away from it. At that moment, an Ally Bomb flies in and knocks into Sherry, sending her through the hole.
"Sherry!" Yusei shouts, watching the French blond disappear from his sight.
Yusei looks back as the Diablo move in closer. He's the only one left now.

Watching the duel from a lower lane, Bruno tries catching up. "Yusei!" He gripes, falling into despair. He lacks a D-Wheel. He lacks a deck. How can he help him?

Bruno flinches when he hears a familiar voice.

Digital information spreads throughout his body and reshapes his mind. His blank eyes reflect 1s and 0s. "That's right… my task is to protect Yusei… no matter what!"
He leaps off the track, driving as fast as he can to the shores of the darkened city. As he gets to the beach, he hops off his mini bike and lands on the salted grains. He shouts, "Come out, Delta Eagle!"
Water explodes from the sea before him. Something moves to his position under the clear blue liquid. Emerging from below is the same D-Wheel from before. The same one wielded by Dark Glass. Bruno boards the machine and drives at the speed of sound.
He reaches the duel lane road, seeing the Diablo army remains. As he passes by, his body changes. He transforms, becoming the mysterious D-Wheeler Dark Glass. "Wait for me, Yusei!"
Dark Glasses, no, Bruno soon makes it to Yusei. With Blade Gunner already on the field, he pulls out a monster. "I equip Buster Shooter to T.G. Blade Gunner!"
The Accel Synchro gains a new weapon in the form of a two-handed machine gun. "The monster equipped loses 500 attack points, but when it destroys an opponent's monster, all monsters of that same type are destroyed on your field."
"Damn it. Trap card open!" One of the Diablos activates a trap, Just Desserts. "This card will deal 500 damage for every other effect monster on the field!"
Dark Glasses narrows his eyes as the trap is aimed at him. "Take this!"
Unfortunately, a revolver is held to the side of that machine's head. "Infernity Death Gunman's effect."
Yusei looks back at the monster summoned and then searches for whoever summoned that monster. That is when from above, someone leaps onto the battlefield. It is Kiryu Kyousuke. "Now choose."
"Kiryu!" Yusei says with a smile.
"Draw your card!" says the Diablo.
Kiryu smirks as he draws his card. His lips spreading to show his teeth, he turns the card revealing Infernity Mirage. "Bang."
The trigger is pulled, and a hole forms in the Diablo's skull. It spins out and crashes, leaving nothing to stop Dark Glasses.
"Thanks for the help. Buster Shot!"
Blade Gunner fires, destroying the salvo of Ally Bombs. With a path cleared, Dark Glasses drives further to catch up with Yusei. "You again? And Kiryu?"
"Sorry, I'm late. I had trouble reaching you."
"You won't be able to lose them at your speed. We need to move faster!" says Dark Glasses as he pulls ahead of the other two. "Follow my slipstream!"
All three line up and drive further to escape the Diablos.
Watching from above, Placido angrily leaps down. Like Bruno, his body changes. "If you're not going to go down like that, then I will be your opponent!"
Landing in the duel lane, he boards a special D-Wheel. Moving at high speed, he gives bloody chase for Yusei and the others.
In the wondrous slipstream, Yusei easily keeps up with Dark Glasses. Kiryu, while his D-Wheel recycled from his Dark Signer days has been kept up in maintenance, is having a bit of difficulty keeping up with these two. 'I haven't seen you for a while and you've already surpassed me?'
Kiryu looks back when a fourth engine can be heard. Yusei and Dark Glasses check back too, and see Placido on his platinum D-Wheel. "Who's this putz?"
With Dark Glasses, he says, "Yusei! It's time you surpass your limits. It's time for you to master Accel Synchro!"
"Accel Synchro?"
"The secret is Momentum. It isn't just a source of energy that powers the D-Wheel." He merges next to Yusei as he speaks. "The Yusei Project that was used for Momentum connects to living energy that can connect to hearts."
"It does?"
"Your father and Rudger found out about this. As you know, hearts can be vastly different from one another. It's a power that has been used since ancient times; that's why he was possessed by the Wicked Gods. That's why you and your friends were chosen by the Crimson Dragon."
Placido closes in on them. "However, a person can control Momentum. It is an ability called Clear Mind. It's time you acquired that."
"Clear Mind…" Yusei thinks back, remembering that Dark Glasses mentioned those words back then.
"Yusei Fudo! You're too annoying for a mere pawn! It is time I destroyed you with my Machine Emperor!"
Hearing his words, Yusei puts two and two together. This is the man behind Ghost. "What is this all for?!"
"A human like you wouldn't be able to comprehend. You should just submit and obey us like the rest of them!" Placido chuckles before pointing. "However, you have earned the right to be challenged by me personally."
Kiryu looks back at Placido, pulling out of the slipstream as an idea crosses his mind. He slams into the man, allowing his friend to pull ahead. "What?!"
"How about you go down the list first? No one challenges Yusei without getting past me," Kiryu says as he eyes the man.
"Wait… you're that-"
Dark Glasses continues, thankful for Kiryu's distraction. "You already can use it, you and two others. You just need to realize it. Feel the wind!"
Yusei looks forward as he feels the wind. Something inside of his heart connects to it, bringing him to a state of nirvana. Ever since he faced Ghost, he has always been looking for it, a method to enhance his dueling naturally to face Synchro Killers. The more he thinks about it, the more he realizes why he couldn't do it before; he's afraid.
Afraid of the Machine Emperors.
'I can't let this overwhelm me. I have to speed through my fears.' The boy closes his eyes to recover his peace. Thoughts of his friends and how he's been able to help them come to mind, but it's not enough.
'If you fight with me, you'll be able to find your goal as well, Yusei.'
Sherry's words resonate. It picks the pieces of his heart and makes him realize something about himself. As his heart calms to its peak, energy flows through Yusei. That fear vanishes shortly.
He now finds himself in another plane of existence. It feels as if space has warped and purified around him. His eyes widen as energy empowers him. 'This is… this is it!'
Up above back in reality, a stone plummets to the earth. The Yusei Go disappears into light, aiming directly for that stone's trajectory. Still blocked by Kiryu, Placido watches his target vanish into nothingness. "He disappeared?!"
"Looks like Yusei's got more important things to do," Kiryu says to him.
Angered, Placido pushes back against Kiryu. "Very well. I'll present you to him as a corpse!"
"Wait, I'll handle him!" Dark Glasses offers, but then a surprise comes in, taking the form of more Diablo machines merging into the Duel Lane.
"Battle Royal Mode is still engaged," says Placido with a smirk as the machines hound around Dark Glasses. With him trapped, he can't speed up, allowing Placido to drive ahead with Kiryu. "I'll handle him later like I almost did before. But first, you."
"Bring it, weirdo!" Kiryu grins as their duel disks activate. "Are you ready to dance with the devil in the pale moonlight?"
"As if I'd fear a human who wanted to die."
Kiryu flinches at that thought. "What do you mean by that?"
"You'll find out." Placido chuckles as the duel begins.
"Fine. Let's let you satisfy me."
Riding Duel Acceleration
Kiryu Kyousuke: 4000
Placido: 4000
"The first move goes to me." Placido draws his card. "I'll summon Machine Repairer in defense mode."
Appearing to the field is a mechanical soldier building one of the Cores the emperors use to appear.
Machine Repairer: 1400/1400 (4)
"I'll set two cards and end my turn."
'So, a machine user… that explains the robots.' Kiryu draws for his turn, before revealing it. "I'll set three cards facedown and summon Infernity Beast!"
A hellhound dashes into the field with a roar. "Beast will attack Repairer! Hell Howling!" The dog fires a stream of fire.
"Machine Repairer's effect!" The worker holds a hand out, causing Wise Core to appear in its place. "Once per turn, if this monster would be attacked, I can negate this monster's destruction. At the same time, I can return this monster to my hand and destroy one Machine monster in my hand."
"What?" The Wise Core shatters from the fire breathing, while the monster itself returns to Placido's hand.
"What the hell was that about?"
Placido grins ever so vile. "When Wise Core is destroyed by a card effect, I special summon from my deck the following monsters."
From the remains of the core appears five monsters: Machine Emperor Wisel Infinity, Wisel Top, Wisel Attack, Wisel Guard, and Wisel Carrier. "Combine! Machine Emperor Wisel!"
Kiryu looks back as he watches all five monsters merge into a single robot.

"That's not too impressive. I end my turn." Kiryu keeps riding forward. 'Now that I think about it, Crow mentioned something like this; about enemies that forced him to duel differently…'
"My turn." Placido begins his turn and makes his next move. "Wisel will attack Infernity Beast!"
His machine monster moves in and slashes at the beast. "Trap card open; Infernity Inferno! I'll discard two cards from my hand and send the same number of Infernity cards to the graveyard!"
Kiryu sends his cards to the grave, putting his hand at zero. "And now, I activate Infernity Break!"
Kiryu's trap opens up, and from his grave Infernity Guardian rises to strike at Wisel Infinity. "By banishing an Infernity in my graveyard, I can destroy one card you control!"
"Oh no, you won't! Divergence, activate!" Placido flips over a continuous trap, which redirects Guardian to attack the Carrier. It explodes on contact, but it remains in one piece.
"Of course, it can't be destroyed by card effects." Wisel destroys Infernity Beast, which gives Kiryu a hit of 900, putting him at 3100.
"I'll set one card and end my turn, pleb." Placido grins as he watches Kiryu begin his turn, as well as feeling the pain of his monster's destruction.
"Pretty good for a hunk of junk. Draw!" Kiryu looks at the card in his hand, before summoning it. "I summon Infernity Mirage!"
His mirage makes a reappearance after showing up back in Satisfaction Town. "By releasing this monster, I can special summon two Infernity monsters from my graveyard!" Mirage fades away, bringing forth Beetle and Destroyer.
"Now that I know how your monsters work, I'll send Destroyer after Wisel Infinity!" Destroyer flies in to strike the machine.
"Wisel Guard's effect!" The right arm blocks Destroyer's claw, which is demolished. A shockwave strikes Placido.
Placido: 2400
"And now that it's gone, Beetle will attack Wisel Carrier!" The beetle flies in and strikes the legs, destroying them.
Placido: 2000
"And finally, I'll tune my two monsters together!" His beetle turns into two rings that pass through the Destroyer. From the light of Synchro appears his ace, Infernity Death Dragon.
"Infernity Death Dragon's effect; I'll target Infinity and destroy it!" His dragon breathes in as it prepares to use its effect.
"You're pretty impudent for a death reaper. Trap card open; Synchro Ejection!" Kiryu flinches when he sees his dragon disappear into his Extra Deck. "This trap card returns one Synchro monster you control to your deck, and you can draw one card."
Kiryu gripes before drawing. His Handless Combo needs no cards in hand, and sadly, he's already normal summoned this turn. "Turn end."
Placido holds up Machine Repairer. "I'll use Machine Repairer's effect; by discarding this card during the End Phase of a turn Machine Emperor parts have been destroyed, I can restore those parts."
The repairer goes to work rebuilding the Guard and Carrier pieces of Wisel. Soon enough, it's as good as new. Placido then draws for his turn, ready to finish this man off. "Trap card open; Infinite Wisdom."
The mugen symbol on Wisel Infinity glows as beams shoot out. The energy tendrils attach to Kiryu's Duel Disk. "I can declare one card name in your Extra Deck. If you have it, Wisel Infinity can absorb it."
"What?!" Kiryu watches as the machine pulls against him.
"And I declare 'Infernity Death Dragon,'" says Placido as his machine steals the card. Infernity Death Dragon returns before being absorbed into the robot.
Wisel Infinity: 5500
Seeing it, Kiryu gets struck with realization. This is what Crow and the others have been fearing. Wisel is an Anti-Synchro card. "Go, Wisel! Direct attack!"
His monster flies in, wielding a blade empowered by the death dragon's essence. Sadly, Kiryu's trap cannot work now; Infernity Force won't work without another Infernity, and definitely with a card in his hand. So, he has no choice but to speed up and reach a conversion point to escape death.
But, the machine emperor is faster than him and stabs his D-Wheel. He jumps off at the last second, avoiding the explosion in time. He sprawls across the road, defeated. His body suffers through intense pain following the assault.
Kiryu: 0000
Having stopped, Placido stares down ahead at the defeated rider. Even though he won, he is highly unimpressed. Angry even. His real target has escaped him. He's so upset he's ignorant to the bright light coming his way.
"I came out to kill Yusei Fudo. You weren't even good enough to be a lure for him! So be a good death reaper and DIE!" He drives at full speed at Kiryu, turning his duel disk into a sword.
Seeing it, Kiryu's memories revive. He recalls Barbara mentioning someone with a sword telling her about his connection to Yusei. In context, this has to be that man. Sadly, he will not have much longer to think about it when Placido is about to decapitate him.
Luckily, to his grace, another D-Wheel comes their way. He ducks out of the way when Placido's sword clashes with another sword. He looks up in time to see his savior, Sherry Leblanc.
"You!" Placido growls as he passes by the blond D-Wheeler, who holds her sword with both hands backward. Her legs and hips balance the D-Wheel, allowing her full strength to block the emperor's sword. She grabs hold of her right handle and slides to a stop.
And Kiryu is smitten. 'Whoa!'
"You're the one behind this, aren't you?" Sherry questions with narrow eyes, her rage burning within. "Are you the new director of Yliaster?"
"Why should I answer a pest like yourself?!"
"You better talk before this pest lops that head of yours off!" Her blade points to his face. "I just got finished with your little army, and came down here to get some answers."
Placido pulls his hood over. "Try it, human. There is only one person worthy of my challenge! And he's-"
"Hold it right there!"
All three of them look back to see the Yusei Go making a beeline down the highway.
"Yusei!" Sherry and Kiryu say when they see his return.
"So, you've returned, haven't you?" Placido cackles as he drives directly for him.
Yusei rides up the curved glass keeping them trapped before using the extra room to perform a U-turn. He says, "I'll be your opponent!"
He matches up next to Placido and the two drive off.
"Wait!" Sherry drives after them, leaving Kiryu by himself.
"H-Hey, wait! What about me?!" he shouts, as Delta Eagle passes by seconds later. Seeing this happen, the Infernity Duelist sighs. "I guess I'll let you have this, Yusei."
Up ahead, Placido prepares to face his fated target. But then, on his monitor, Jose appears. "Jose?"
"Leave it be, Placido. Yusei Fudo has obtained a new power!"
He feels skeptical. "What's that supposed to mean?"
Luciano appears, showing how flabbergasted he is. "It's true! You won't believe this shit! He received God's will as well!"
This surprises the red-eyed adult. "Fall back, Placido. If he's received power, then he's not an enemy you can defeat right now!"
He grits his teeth in anger. "Are you saying I'm going to lose?!" He then cuts off the two emperors. "I don't care what God gave him! A human will never surpass me!"
His machine eye glows red. The man then proceeds to stand in his seat. He draws his sword and impales it into a slot on his D-Wheel, causing data and energy to flow from him and his machine. His D-Wheel changes shape and he leaps into the air.
Placido's legs straighten up and extend, revealing his mechanical origins. He inserts himself into his upgraded D-Wheel, turning into a centaur-like machine. Wires stick into his spine, and a duel disk opens up before him with the use of his sword.
"What the?!"
"He's a machine?" Sherry shouts in shock.
"So this is their true form…" Dark Glasses mutters as he catches up.
Placido glares at Yusei, saying, "You won't escape this time. I'll make sure you never get in our way again!"
Placido: 4000
Yusei Fudo: 4000
Lightz: And that concludes chapter 36. Man, we've still got 37 episodes, plus original content, to adapt. But next chapter, we will have the premiere of Accel Synchro. And yes, I and a friend have been wanting to see Sherry sword-parry Placido. It only makes sense!

Effect: If this card is attacked, you can negate that attack, and then, if you do, return this card to your hand and destroy one Machine monster in your hand.
